Boys State Tournament Pairings Released

by @ 7:55 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Today's Top Stories

Here are the region pairing for the boys high school Sweet 16 in March.  In parentheses are the teams in each region ranked in the Top 20.  Looks like the 7th region has an incredibly easy run to the state finals, as 5 of the 7 other regions on that side of the bracket have no ranked teams.  Although it seems somewhat appropriate as to even get through the 7th region tournament will be quite a task.

Scott County was given a murderous draw though.  If they can even get out of the 11th region, they then have to most likely play an always good Warren Central team, then Holmes, who has already beaten them, then the survivor of the 10th region/Elliot County.

My guess is an Eastern/Scott County state final, with Scott County pulling it out.  Be warned though, Eastern has a really, really good team.

Wednesday, March 18

-12th Region (None) vs. 14th Region (#19 Perry County Central), noon

-Seventh Region (#4 Eastern, #5 Ballard,#6 Jeffersontown, #16 Seneca) vs. 13th Region (#13 Corbin), 8 p.m.

Holmes is going to win it all.

  3. big_blue_forever Says:

By the way where did you get your rankings? By bluegrasspreps Holmes is #1. Boone County isnt even ranked. Highlands and Scott arent ranked. By the way in the rivals 100 Holmes was rated #29 in the country. The next Kentucky team was Scott County way down the list.

Ryan when do u kids go back to school?

  5. BillyClyde4President Says:

Scott County is hands down the best team in the state and will prove it in March.

  6. NoSoupForYou Says:

Scott Co. is absolutely not HANDS DOWN the best team in the state. Holmes has already beaten them, and have played great since. Elliott Co. and Eastern are both playing great ball as well. Scott Co. Could win it, but is not HANDS DOWN the best team in the state.

  7. NoSoupForYou Says:

BTI, don’t sleep on Shelby Valley. I think they’ll beat the 10th region champ, and can give Elliott Co. a run.

  8. Section 137 Says:

#7 I seriously don’t see Shelby Valley beating Mason Co. The defending champs play top notch competition on a nightly basis. For the exception of a couple of teams, the mountains pale in comaparison to Northern and Central KY high school teams. Of course, the Royals have to beat Clark Co. first, but I don’t see the Wildcats beating them either.

  9. xXget@emXx Says:

Whoever wins the 13th is one and done for sure!!

  10. robby Says:

7, im with you…..i believe shelby valley can make a serious run…..alot of people overlook them because they are from the mountains, but they play top notch competition all the time, whether it be tournaments in Flordia, New YOrk, or from central and and Northern kentucky. Im not saying they will do anything for sure, im just saying they are overlooked and could turn alot of heads. Elisha Justice is D1 talent, but is still overlooked in the state by most.

  11. bfrey Says:

No love for Elliot County. Hands down the most exciting team in the state. If you can’t rally behind them, you have no soul.

  12. sortleader2 Says:

    Richie goin’ for 40….

  13. quietude38 Says:

At this rate, the First Region will be lucky to play another game before the state tournament.

Seriously, there are very few people west of the lakes with power right now, and that’s not going to change for about a month.

  14. dunnthegun30 Says:

Jeffersontown is going to win the 7th region and run the table

  15. big_blue_forever Says:

Holmes has to be the favoirte. Coming off a state runner up last year, and not losing much. They are stock full of talent and I dont see any other school beating them. Except for maybe last years mason county team.

  16. NoSoupForYou Says:

    16. Holmes very well may be the favorite. However, I see several other schools w/ the potential to beat them.
If they make it through the region and survive the second region (probably a very talented Christian Co. team). They would face an 11th region team that can certainly beat them. Bryan Station has already defeated them, and Scott Co. is playing very well lately. If they survive that they may face an Elliott Co. team that can beat any team in the state if they’re hitting their shots.
Then they’d be set to possibly meet the 7th with either Easter, Jtown, or Ballard probably. They only beat Ballard by 3 on a neutral site, and Eastern is playing as well as anyone in the state, while Jtown has as much talent as any team in the state.

I’m not saying that any of these teams ARE going to make it. Upsets always happen.

What I am saying is this has the making of being one of the most exciting tournaments in recent memory. No team is a lock to make even make the semis. It should be a lot of fun!

  17. NoSoupForYou Says:

    11. I’m with you. I love this Elliott Co team. A small school whose whole community has rallied behind them. Plus, this team plays hard every play of every game. If you haven’t watched them play, whach them! They are the definition of what is good about high school basketball.

  18. UKmando Says:

Scott County is the best hands down?? Let me guess, Euton is going to win Mr. Basketball too right?? LOL!! Holmes is stacked with 3 Div I players and I can’t see them going down

  19. RonH Says:

Not so fast on the 7th Region,Corbin surprises 7th Region Champ in 1st game…:)

  20. bigjas Says:

Speaking of Elliott County, they are playing in the Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic down in Richmond. They won their first round game over Whitefield Academy 85-24.
