Adam Zagoria caught up with Doron Lamb before the Magic/Knicks game this evening and asked him his thoughts on UK winning next year’s National Championship in the wake of Julius Randle’s commitment and several freshmen hinting at returning:
“Yeah, it will be easier for everybody if they all stay because you ain’t gotta do that much to win a championship.” (Can we all stop there and appreciate that classic Doron Lamb quote?) “You’re all great players and they all should be pros, so you gotta wait and see what happens.”
On the importance of having veterans on your team: “It’s a big factor having guys on your team that been through it and know what to do, know how it is to win games. Just teaching the freshmen how to win and let them know what’s going to happen before it happens. I was big on Mike, Anthony and Teague.”
On Cal managing egos and players having to fight for PT: “It’s going to be tough. Guys [have to] compete in practice [and] see who gets the job.”
On if they’ll win it in 2014: “Yeah, if they all stay, they are winning guaranteed.”
Now, if only we can teach Doron to check the score of the UK game before asking on Twitter, we’ll be golden.

What were his socks of the day?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:10 pm
After the last week and a half, I planned to avoid watching the tournament. But … I’ve recovered. Thank you Julius. Congrats!
March 20th, 2013 at 9:10 pm
Amen on that last point, as soon as every game ends he asks.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:12 pm
Thats the plan! GO CATS!
March 20th, 2013 at 9:17 pm
Who up?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:22 pm
With this group of “veterans” , it will likely be the freshmen teaching THEM how to win.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:22 pm
Hearing Wiggins to UK gonna happen at Mcdonald’s game. Parents are on board.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:29 pm
Wiggins is a done deal, he told Cal when he was in town. GO CATS!!
March 20th, 2013 at 9:29 pm
9- I would bet that you have zero evidence of that.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:30 pm
10- Same for you.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:31 pm

March 20th, 2013 at 9:32 pm

March 20th, 2013 at 9:33 pm
Who up???
March 20th, 2013 at 9:35 pm
No it’s actually a recruiting analyst (Adam zagoria) on twitter talking about it
March 20th, 2013 at 9:36 pm
If You know where I can get the hat that Julius Randle is wearing when he chose to play for Kentucky please post here the location…
I noticed another recruit this year had it on when he selected UK. I’m wondering if Cal is handing a limited production run of rare hats out to these guys.
To me it’s clearly the best looking Kentucky hat I’ve seen in years.
Thanks for any help
March 20th, 2013 at 9:36 pm
Zagoria didn’t necessarily say wiggins will commit to UK but his commitment will be via twitter and he has heard that UK is in a very good position with wiggins and most importantly his family.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:36 pm
So is this just a wishful thought you decided to share or do you an actual source you would like to tell us about?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:38 pm
9, 10, 13, 17. same loserville troll
March 20th, 2013 at 9:40 pm
Where is the guy who was on here last night saying he was from Mt. Sterling but living in Texas. Said his wife was a friend of Randal’s mother and she told her that he was going to Kansas. I called him on it. Like I said last night, these kids have kept this secret for this long with all the coaches and media and all recruiting gurus trying to find out where they are going, then all of a sudden his mom tells some random person? Rumors, until you here it from the kids mouth.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:40 pm
No I’m not a troll, I’m very serious. Kerrybbn on twitter is tweeting it right now
March 20th, 2013 at 9:42 pm
#21 no troll here, been saying over a week we were getting Randle, Just know we are in real good shape for Wigggins! GO CATS!!
March 20th, 2013 at 9:44 pm
9) Would be awesome if he sat down with the other 6 guys.
But yeah, calling BS on that. No one knows except for him and a very trusted few, if he’s even made his final decision yet.
I don’t count out Cal, but Matt’s been right on a lot lately (Shows calling one of our games about 2 days in advance, going on the road for the NIT, Randle), and he said he thinks we’ve slipped far on Wiggins.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:54 pm
I just don’t like all the talk of a for sure thing next year. That is a lot of pressure. It takes a lot more than just having some great recruits and throwing them together. It also takes a huge amount of luck to win it all no matter how good you are. Cousins and Wall and Bledsoe can back me up on this one. They should have won it all. They should have beat WV by 20.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:55 pm
Talk about a bitter/sweet 24 hrs. Great news on the Randle pickup, but I am having difficulty still accepting the lack of team playing UK BB this past year. What would the odds be of Arkansas, Georgia, Vandy, and Robert Morris all beating us in same year with all this talent? Last night would definitely be a contender for worse UK game of all time. I can’t believe after all the public flogging about our team not being tough or physical enough after ea. of these losses that we would give one of our worse exhibitions of the year and in our last game as well. I thought I was going to puke when Poythress was talking about focus, physical play etc. after the game when he went speechless for the whole year. I hope that Cal will follow thru on his “coachless” comments but letting some of these perpetrators go.

CLEAN HOUSE CAL! Never again let loose of the reins.
If the program, “Almost Got Hijacked” then recognize that YOU let it happen and those that USED YOU TO GET LEVERAGE need to be removed from the grounds.
The Lodge, the Craft Center, the Game Room, The Locker Room, the Hot Tub, don’t need those ‘tools’ to be present.
Remember, if they could bend you once, then keeping them around will only be an ego game to see if you can be stronger next time. Do yourself a favor and start with a clean slate in 2014.
You gave them such a change (an overabundance) in 2014 that it “almost hijacked the program.”
Well, your words make it sound as if you had control all along. I’ll put it more honestly so you can see your blindspot Cal…
“The program was hijacked in 2013 under your watch”
Chose your ingredients wisely.
Your great, we love ya, but clean the slate and work with what you want to work with.

“It’s a big factor having guys on your team that been through it and know what to do, know how it is to win games.”
The only problem with this Lamb is none of these guys will know any of that. They found ways to lose.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:38 pm
I was listening to “The John Calipari” show on WHAS on the way home, and Leach asked him if he was excited at the prospect of most of his players returning for another year. There was a long, awkward silence, and then Cal said “If they are willing to change. If they are not willing, then they just aren’t going to play.”

Mike – A cardinal fan with another negative comment.

How much would have this team benefited from having Doron on it! Doron’s role was under stated last year. Davis got most of the pub but Lamb and MKG were the 2 that made everything work.
March 21st, 2013 at 8:30 am
UK won’t win another title under Calipari. It’s pathetic that he throws the kids under the bus and says they are the ones who need to change. At no other program in the country do you see the fan base and coaches deeming freshmen failures if they don’t win a national championship, no matter what their talent level. It’s pathetic and unrealistic.
