March Madness will have to share the spotlight with football over the next few weeks as spring practice officially got underway this morning at the Nutter practice facility. We’ll have a recap of Mark Stoops’ press conference following Day 1 of spring ball in just a bit, but here are a few interesting notes from the first look at the spring roster to hold you over.

The biggest roster change, and maybe the least surprising, is Bud Dupree’s move from linebacker to defensive end. The position change was expected this offseason and it was confirmed on paper this morning. Dupree moves up in the 4-3 defense, leaving Avery Williamson as the only linebacker who can feel comfortable this spring chasing a starting spot. Khalid Henderson and Miles Simpson will likely join him on the first string, although nothing is promised to anyone at this point.

On the offensive line, Zach West is listed at guard and center while Kevin Mitchell, a tackle last season, is also listed at offensive guard. Expect West to be Kentucky’s starting center when it’s all said and done.

Stoops did not provide a depth chart for the media, only a roster with players listed alphabetically. He said no one has earned anything yet and the team has room to improve at every position. He was, however, “encouraged” by his first day of practice with the Wildcats.
