Joe Lunardi slept on it, and we have a Sunday afternoon update to his bracketology. And it’s not good. Lunardi says Kentucky has fallen below the “first four out” and into the real danger zone of “next three out.”
Stay tuned for a blind résumé comparison later this afternoon. Decide for yourself who deserves to be in, and who doesn’t.

Screw off 1. Cal should just announce today we will not play in the NIT and make sure players leave in good academic standing
March 16th, 2013 at 12:13 pm
What’s with the “Stick around today, folks. I’ll try to find some good news, I promise.” line in one of your previous posts? Is this the good news you were talking about?
March 16th, 2013 at 12:15 pm
This is even worse than it looks. If Lunardi is accurate (and over the last few years he is the most accurate of the bracketologists), three of the “Last Four In” (Boise, MTSU and LaSalle) are done and can’t fall any farther due to a loss. UVA and TN are also done. Ole Miss and Maryland can move up with wins today, as can UMass.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:22 pm
The good news is this nightmare of a season is almost in the books and Wednesday we will get our next star to sign with the Big Blue. Watch some real players next season, 2013-2014 can’t get here fast enough!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Ole miss is a joke, im glad losing to miss state and south carolina make them a tourney team. Makes sense.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:26 pm
What time does Kentucky play today?
March 16th, 2013 at 12:27 pm
Irrespective of his thoughts on our Cats right now, Joe Lunardi is far from the “most accurate” bracketologist: http://bracketproject.50webs.com/rankings.html
March 16th, 2013 at 12:28 pm
So Missouri is supposedly a lock with 10 losses and losses to some of the same teams we lost to? Don’t even get me started on Ole Miss. I hope Vandy beats them today. They don’t deserve a spot in the tournament with losses as bad as theirs. And I’m so tired of these mid major schools getting at large bids to only fall to a mediocre team 1st round by double digits. After our lack of performance last night we don’t really deserve a spot either, but some of these other teams I do not agree with.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:29 pm
Enjoy the NIT losers!!!!!!! LMFAO!!!!!! It will be your second NIT in just 5 years!!!!!! GO HOOSIERS!!!!!! Your state and every basketball team in it is a JOKE!!!!!!!!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:29 pm
I don’t understand it. MTSU and LaSalle are in but UK has better wins than they do and better to comparable RPI’s etc. Don’t UK’s wins over Maryland and Ole Miss look better now too? Not to mention UK got two of their biggest wins without Noel.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:29 pm
We honestly don’t deserve to be in after yesterday’s performance but no one can deny that when we are playing with heart and executing, we can play with anyone. Lets just hope the experts will keep that in mind and the fact that #bbn will travel anywhere to see our cats play. As of now, that seems to be our only hope. If we don’t make it we need to support the players and wish them the best in their decisions going forward. As fans the NIT sounds terrible, especially after last years championship but it is what’s best for our players.

March 16th, 2013 at 12:30 pm
Julius Mays said they may have been over-confident. Are you kidding me! Why in the hell would this team be over-confident even playing a high school team? Can you imagine what the fans that paid good money to go down there and watch that crap feel like today? If ANY of those guys that “played” last night think they’re ready to move on to the next level want to do the right thing, they should use the money from their first check from the D-League to start reimbursing the fans that were there. After all, at least they showed up.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:31 pm
Does anyone actually believe we deserve to be in the NCAA? Don’t get me wrong. I’m as big of a UK fan as there is, but when you lose to awful Georgia and Vandy teams in the last week of the season while knowing we needed these wins to secure an NCAA birth, I don’t think that’s the mark of a team that deserves to “dance.”
March 16th, 2013 at 12:33 pm
Lunardi has no idea what he’s Talking about. His job is to sit around his computer and guess. Don’t listen to a damn word he says.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:35 pm
#11, how many Final four appearances do you have in the past 5 years? Certainly not 2. And remeber the sweet 16 last year? Our national champs beat you right? Make fun all you want, after your starting lineup is gone next year you all won’t even be in the talk of being a bubble team. You’ll be lucky to even be at .500.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:35 pm
We don’t deserve to be in tournament! Lost last four games away from rupp by an average of 17 points. This team was awful on both sides of the court. the guard play was terrible. Minus WCS, and sometimes wiltjer these players aren’t even good role players. Cal did a terrible job this year and there aren’t any excuses for it.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:36 pm
Thanks #11. You made up my mind for me. If it comes down to IU and Louisville I hope the ville kicks their ass. And do you really want to start talking about recent tournament appearances? How many NCAA Tournaments has IU been in the last ten years? When was the last time they one one? Who knocked your ass out of the tournament last year? And by the way, your coach is a complete tool.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:51 pm
These UL and IU trolls are only making themselves look like fools. Last NCAA Title? 1986 for UL and 1987 for IU. Just imagine, there is not one single UL or IU fan alive under the age of 30 on the face of the Earth right now that can remember what winning a National Championship feels like! And no, I do not buy that any 3 or 4 year old (at the time) has any memory of it. Just to remind you all, UK has won Three MORE Titles (on top of the 5 we already had) just in the years since either UL or IU won their LAST title. And how hilarious is it that at the Yum Center UL boasts banners for all of their Final Four appearances! I guess because just showing 2 banners would be pretty pathetic, so I do get it. Then the icing on the cake, UK wins it all just last year…beating both IU and UL along the way…for their 8th NCAA Title. So we have one down year. Big whoop. And ya’ll just KNOW we comin’ atcha next year! So enjoy the moment you think you’ve found, but…any bragging from any UL or IU fan regarding UK is literally laughable and pathetic and only exposes the pathetic irrelevance of both the UL & IU programs in terms of national prominence over nearly 3 decades now and still counting…Ba Ha Ha Ha Ha!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:52 pm
48 points…6 assists…very few fast breaks…If we get in and draw teams that score 39 points or less I say we have a chance…
March 16th, 2013 at 12:53 pm
I still hate tom crean……but I loved him on the office.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:53 pm
I’m hoping the selection committee sees yesterdays loss as one in the opponents home town and as a tough game given that it was the third time we played them. Hopefully they consider that and not margin of defeat and the fact that the game was practically a home game. Ah screw it, we’re out.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:53 pm
I think the best and only response to imbeciles like #11 is to ignore as they’re just trying to get a rise. IU has had a good year and they’re certainly one of the favorites-good for them. If they win it all it will be their first title in 26 years….a span during which we’ve raised 3 banners and gone to 6 final fours. We can afford to be classy and congratulate them on their success as we’ve certainly seen much more than a program that has taken 26 years to figure out how to define itself post-Bobby Knight.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:55 pm
I do not think UK deserves to be in the NCAA Tourney field. However, to be fair, how the fu*k are Missouri & Cincinnati locks to make the field? They have not had better seasons than UK or beat more teams of better quality. Ole Miss beat Missouri last night for Christ’s sake! I think Lunardi has it wrong. However, a lot of people (ex. NCAA leadership & Execs, national media, rival fans & coaches) will be very happy not to see UK make the tourney field. This is the year for the tourney to stick it to UK and the team’s nose is wide open. Therefore, I think UK gets left out of the field unfortunately.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:55 pm
For gods sake, let’s just all admit that this edition of UK basketball does not deserve a bid to the NCAA Tourney. It’s just that damned simple. We started out the season with “Kentucky All Access” on ESPN, and the Calipari “Kentucky Effect” and “Non-traditional Program” bullcrap and they were so full of ourselves that they forgot that they had to earn it. These guys just thought when they signed they automatically turned into MKG or John Wall….and that is not the way it works. Of all the many disappointments this team served up, the one that sticks in my crawl the most is their collective unwillingness to fight, their collective apathy. This team was maddening. Poythress joins Richard Madison as the most disappointing player to ever sign with UK. He was a waste of space. A timid, pouty, tenative lout with a perpetual “deer in the headlights” fog on his sweatless face……Harrow was, well, Harrow. Most NC State fans told us we were getting a mild little mommas boy, and they were giving him way too much credit.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:58 pm
Who cares? We suck. I wish there was no NIT. Then this hell would end.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:58 pm
Face it. Season’s over and it was a total loss. Nothing good from this season. We need to face up to the fact that this may happen again if all the kids go pro year after year. I think only MKG and Davis are actually making contributions to their pro teams. Where is Jones, Lamb and Teague? Are they still on rosters or are they in the “D” league. We need to find some balance here, a few go and a few stay and develop. Can’t keep this pace up. Lastly, this is on Cal. He recruited these kids, and none of them (except Noel) should dare test the waters this year. If Cal was CEO of an organization the board of directors would not like their return on investment during this season. No one better talk of raising ticket prices…..
March 16th, 2013 at 1:08 pm
It is what it is. Cal makes this whole thing work by recruiting the best out there every year. If the talent pool is down in a given year, we suffer for it. I’m fine with that. Didn’t work out this year. Move on.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:12 pm
I hope we don’t turn down an NIT. Not so much for the extra practice (not that it would help much), but UK doesn’t need the bad PR for doing so.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:14 pm
I love to lurk and sleep with my MOM. I love you mommie.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:18 pm
Just got ready to leave the house, and it just hit me that I can’t wear my UK hate….don’t need the public ridicule.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:23 pm
First off….i really hope the comments on this site are from non-uk fans. I have been a ky fan all my life and cannot believe some of the comments i read. I support uk no matter what. These players are young and don’t deserve fans slamming them in these comments. Cal is a good coach and the best thing for uk, commenters give him hell for losses but no credit for a win (florida??). We have had an excellent run the last three years and won a nc last year…wth??? If you are a true uk fan you would never make such comments
Second….how is it that teams like la salle, middle tn st, boise st, etc and even missouri for that matter are considered tourny teams and not ky? looking at their wins and losses i really don’t get it. It looks to me that we have a better resume than missouri which has always been considered a tourny team??
Third…as much as i hate ul (and always will) i really hate iu here lately…just sayin
March 16th, 2013 at 1:51 pm
Who cares. Were not getting in, don’t deserve to get in, and I would be mad as a UK FAN if we did get in. John is a great coach and I wouldn’t trade him for anyting but he and this team laid an egg this year. I wonder if this team can even make it to New York. I don’t know what the odds will be but I wouldn’t bet on it. Somehow their fire and will to win wasn’t there from day one. Maybe it had something to do with the personal chef’s, fancy locker rooms, ESPN ALL ACCESS,I don’t know, but this staff needs to take a hard introspective look at how they will treat the incomming recruits next year. Whatever they do they better keep that fire to win in their bellies from day one, for if they lose it recent history shows they may not find it again.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:53 pm
We need to root for Vandy over Ole Miss. Can Ole Miss be considered over us, if they lose to the same team, and have in season worse losses than we do?
March 16th, 2013 at 2:00 pm
11) my second favorite team after UK is the team playing the Loosiers that day.
March 16th, 2013 at 2:39 pm
IU has been so poor over theyears, that this is the first time in 20 years they’ve won the B1G conf.
March 16th, 2013 at 3:20 pm
#33 That’s exactly why you can’t call yourself a fan, Mike. Are you a KY resident?
March 16th, 2013 at 3:24 pm
38)whats the 1 in between the b and g?
March 16th, 2013 at 3:31 pm
Ready to get this disaster of a season over with and get these guys out of the program.
March 16th, 2013 at 3:45 pm
Hey #11. KARMA BITCH! That’s how the next tournament will end for you as well. With a loss.
March 16th, 2013 at 4:23 pm
funny how some of the other bubble team get beat and have no movement….. another team wins one game and move 6 spots….. Uk loses and we move 8 spots down! We beat Tn /Fl/ Mizzu/ Ms/ and Maryland and Vandy have won 8 out of their last 10 game and playing good right now. Last nights game was very hard to watch and take.
March 16th, 2013 at 5:07 pm
I’ve watched several games over the last couple of weeks, and every time one team goes to a zone, the other team attacks it by flashing someone to the free throw line.
Cal keeps running this dribble-drive -stumble-dive offense, that results in a turnover, or last second rushed shot with somebody in their face.
Wiltjer is a great passer, why did we not flash him to the free throw line? Harrow 2-15 from the pg position, are you kidding! These guys look for the contact, but can’t finish.
We couldn’t change the pace of the game, because we don’t have enough guys to press.
We don’t set screens and make passes to get shooters open, we just try to do the pick and hand off play, it worked for Harrellson, and Knight, but teams have figured out how to defend that play. Please come up with something different!
We don’t have any set plays on in-bounds at our end of the court, except to put a tall guy in the corner, and throw it high! WOW!
I love being #1 in the recruiting battles, but it sometimes, seems like what others have said” CoachCal just gets the best players, and rolls the ball out there”.
Three great days of practice, sorry, I just didn’t see it! Nothing different!
March 16th, 2013 at 5:13 pm
I wonder where 11 is now…..Looks like them Hosiers got spanked at their tourney that they were so heavy to win….SPANK DAT AZZ Badgers
March 16th, 2013 at 5:16 pm
Play only those returning next year in the NIT if we have to accept it. I hope we have a leader in that bunch coming in.
March 16th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
I’ll take a year like this if it promises years like the last three. It’s going to hurt for a while, but we are so blessed to BE UK fans. Our future is brightest in both Football and Basketball…..While ILuge and Uvel have nothing….Let me repeat NOTHING to look foreward to….
34 bet the house my friend they are freaking TROLLS, but if we have one thing to look forward to is that neither Uvel or the Hosiers are going to win it all…..GO CATS!
Just think Cat fans, when most of these Hosiers, and Tards fans were born, they went through school, graduated, (Yeah right)and is working at a Wendy’s near you without ever knowing what it’s like to win a championship….Not this century, and it’ll be another because….they won’t win one this year either…..ha ha ha ha ha….GO CATS!
March 16th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
Lasalle beats butler and VCU has terrible losses and no high caliber out of conference games, beat a Villanova team that Alabama destroyed and they’re in? What a joke. Mid Tennessee state? Really? Let them play duke, Louisville, notre dama and some other teams and see how they do. Granted we lost, but were close with potentially two 1 seeds. Rpi and all these computer calculations are a joke. Just look at each teams schedule and results and see how they did in big games.
March 16th, 2013 at 5:38 pm
We had two NC St. rejects that started for us this year. How good did we really think we would be?
CoachCal better get some guys, that know how to play defense, or we will be right back in the same boat, next year.
Please hire a great X’s, and O’s assistant coach, and not just good recruiters!
If a freshmen comes in, and has a flaw in his free throw shooting form, please make him change it early on (like James Blackmon, and W Turner years ago). It’s not just about the mental part, sometimes you have to make them change on the practice court!
March 16th, 2013 at 6:05 pm
I would like to know hoe UK and Tenn. flip flopped positions when neither played. right after the loss to Vandy, UK was last four out and UT was next four out. Now UT is last four out and UK is next three out. How?
March 16th, 2013 at 7:12 pm
50, last time I checked, UT beat the snot out of UK by a tune of 30 (correct me if I’m wrong)
Tenn also beat florida and mizzou like UK… except UK couldn’t beat Tenn and UK has 2 TERRIBLE losses (vandy , georgia) at the WORST possible time of the season…
UT deserves it over UK. It’s not even debatable.
March 17th, 2013 at 4:28 pm
51. TN lost to Georgia twice and Ole Miss twice (who UK beat)….by the way UK also beat TN.
