Vandy couldn’t miss and the Cats couldn’t hit anything. Led by Dai-Jon Parker and Kevin Bright, Vandy embarrassed Kentucky 64-48 tonight in front of what was essentially a home crowd for the Cats. The loss puts Kentucky’s chances of making the tournament into serious jeopardy, making for what will be a white-knuckled Selection Sunday.

I’m disappointed this team never bought into the fact that the front of their jerseys said “Kentucky” and it was an honor and a privilege to play for us. They played like guys in an AAU tourney where the winner didn’t matter.

WHAT HAPPENED? we had 7 days to prepare and came out and scored 48 points against a team I STILL refuse to take seriously, even with Vanderbilt beating us 16 tonight and eliminating last year’s team. Anyone else hoping we don’t make the tournament and Cal rejects the NIT?

Let me begin by saying that I’m very glad that I have a wife, kids and a very beautiful and full life to come home to tonight after this national embarrassment at the hands of a 15-16 Vanderbilt team. All the jokes made at the expense of Kevin Stallings will be on us tonight in one of the most miserable performances in the history of UK basketball. Actually it is quite difficult to think of a more insipid performance in our history. So, now it comes time to write the epitaph on this excruciatingly painful and uninspiring season. What to say? NIT bid? Please, no, decline it so that this team can be no more and so that Cal can go to Gethsemani and take a week or two to meditate and reflect upon how the all-access circus mentality has destroyed our ability to build a fundamentally sound, hungry and determined basketball team less than one-year after we dominated the sport….how the “players first I’d never want to offend an aspiring 5-star basketball recruit” has decimated a coaches ability to mold “ballers” into real basketball players and men who have balls and know what it takes to win….and what an honor and privilege it is to wear the blue and white….etc.etc.etc…I sincerely hope that this is the last basketball game we’ll ever see this group play…not because I hate these kids or want to see them fail…but because they’re not ready for this stage, they never were ready for it, and the circus into which they we’re thrown never gave them a chance….it is time to scrap that script, close out this year, and begin again next year with the business-THE SOLE BUSINESS-of learning how to become a team and win basketball games.

Ryan Harrow can be solely blamed for this lost. PG are supposed to pass first and always look for the open player. Harrow failed to do this TOO many times, repeatedly leaving someone wide open on the wing and resulting in a weak “drive” to the lane. Absolutely disgusted with this game. Love my CATS but this kind of loss CANNOT happen. Period. On on U of K

This team never got it. Wiltjer couldn’t guard a fence post and honestly watching this team has been worse than the Gillispie years. Come on football season and next years team. This team only lacked a couple things to be special. Heart for one, caring about the “team” more than personal stats, a genuine liking of each other. Cal should not have ever said he wouldnt use the bench cause he like winning to much. Really Cal? Where were we winning all those games? Use the bench and if the bench isnt good enough to use thats on you. I would rather lose with less talent but more heart than win with a couple players that are hard to watch because they are so selfish. Its just a game folks. Life goes on.

Am I the one that just doesnt care? Like yeah them not being just totally mediocre sucks but man. We just won the title and we should be a favorite for the title next year. These guys were just too young and it was bound to happen. They tried the best that most usual freshman can. But overall, man, Im just not upset. Anyone else?

Kentucky has precious few quality wins, several bad losses and a WEAK non-conference scheudled and got bounced in their first came in a very weak SEC conference Tournament. They do NOT have a NCAA-quality resume.

I think UK will make the tournament for one reason…. money. UK fans will fill any venue regardless of distance. The god news is UK won’t lose any players to the draft due to Noel’s knee. Hopefully Wiltjer can take a little more leadership next year and get UK back on track!

Sadly the 2 players who could truly help us next year will leave. WCS and Nerlens will get drafted in the top 10 and the rest I guess may come back but will begin the season in positions 13, 12, 11,10, 9, 8.

Who cares that the team lost. This is a player’s first program. Goodwin might have upped his stock and the real celebration takes place on draft night UK fans.

The fact is that this team never learned how to play defense. If they had, they may have had a prayer of having a decent season, in spite of how bad their offense looked most of the season. Come on Tyler…you are an intelligent person…but the very idea of UK being given any chance to make the tournament after that game is an affront to the very idea of the tournament. This team has no chance of making the field, nor should they. Cal needs to admit that he bombed with this team from day one with his UK is larger than life all-access garbage…he lost his focus on being a basketball coach and building teams over time and went Hollywood….and many will say he never had it in the first place. However, I don’t believe that and am willing to give him credit….he needs to return to the fundamentals and shut everything else out if he wants to get back to winning….I don’t care if it loses us 5-star recruits as long as the guys that are coming are tough, getting coached properly and wear the uniform with pride.

Not much to say except this season felt like an episode from “when keeping it real goes wrong”.
We not deserve a NCAA bid, and know we hopefully won’t get one.
We don’t want to be embarrassed in a playoff game in Dayton…wrap it up we are done. We don’t want that. Don’t accept an Nit bid either.

You need three things besides great defense to win big time.

With, Cal and the way he recruits every now and then this will happen…not very often as you have seen…3 great years, 1 bad…it’s worth the one bad every now and then when we can win national championships…make final fours and watch some unbelievable talent…relax we weren’t going very far this season even if we made it…but the next two years will be fun…so relax, sit the doggies off the bus and enjoy the future

This team got exactly what they deserved. The best thing that can happen to the University of Kentucky is that this is the last basketball they play this year. This group outside of Nerlens did nothing but embarrass the school time after time . Bosshog said it well , they just refuse to be a team. They did not live up to their hype and they gave up time and time again. To the UK fan that name on the jersey means something and we got hosed with players who did not care what it means to us. Good bye and good riddance as next year looks promising. Just hope enough of them are gone to get that kid from Madison Central as he understands what it means to wear that jersey.

How this bunch won 21 games is beyond me. Early in the year they were rolling up 70, 80, even 90 points. Not sure what happened but they forgot how to score. Whatever it was, they weren’t fun to watch – none of them looked like they were having fun either. Wanted to make the NCAA but after Arkansas, Georgia, and now this, it’s time to end the season.

I wish I could say I’m surprised. This team doesn’t deserve a bid. Unless it’s the NIT. Which they couldn’t even win that. Very disappointing season on so many levels but thankfully it’s over. Time to move on and hope most of the players on this team do the same.

I don’t plan to rip the guys but that was a pretty poor performance in a needs to win game. There were a few OK performance and a few ‘That Sucks’ performances. I also don’t think we have anyone else beside Noel that is remotely close to NBA ready and the rest need to come back with the except of Harrow. I will be glad to see him go, with Andrew Harrison coming in next year and pick up another PG like maybe the kid that had the good KY HS tournament.

Harrow has been the problem all year-he is a head case, wiltjer is problem number 2. Alex is just a frosh who could become a great player in a yr or two. I really think ryan has been a cancer on this team all year, he needs to go or he’ll just whine about playing time all next year. Wiltjers offense will never be good enough to ocercome his defensive and rebounding liabilities.

I never thought I would make a positive comment about the Billy Clyde Era but even his teams gave more effort than this team has ever given. No heart or drive at all. For those hoping all of these guys come back are nuts. Outside of Willie and Nerlens they all need to go on their merry way. They obvious don’t care about the name on their jersey or even care about winning.

Let me just say first and foremost, I’m a huge Big Blue fan. Peroid without question. I have watched 45+ yrs of UK basketball. I actually turned off the game at the 16.50mmark in the second half of the horrible effort tonight. I see no NBA tallent on this team at all. Not this team, noway. For so much that was on the line and to play such heartless basketball, the team, Coach Cal, asst. coaches should be ashamed, total clueless, no heart, most careless team in UK history. I hope someone who talks to these guys will tell them, you just wasted your shot to the NBA. Coach love ya man but you have done a horrible job this year, so yoou need to look in the mirror as well. With the exception of a couple of players who gave 100% effort, this team has been soft and selfish all season. They got a pass the first half of the year because they are young and hadn’t played together, but since then, there has been no growth, no determination, no passion or desire to get better as a team and as individuals. They are a good bunch a guys, but not very serious about team building.

The people on this site saying how much they hate this player or that player are sad, sad, human beings. This team was never given a chance to succeed. I am not saying that Calipari is on the hot seat, far from it. But the team on the floor tonight was a direct result of Calipari not coaching this team or putting the players first as he is want to say. You don’t put the players first by teaching them that you are a star so I will threaten you but not follow through with my threats. He just said the other day that he couldn’t use the bench because he cared more about winning than teaching players a lesson (paraphrased). Archie and Ryan driving on fourteen guys have been their m.o. all season and he wasn’t able to break them of that habit. Tell me how not breaking them of that habit was a player first move? One of the most frustrating things for me this season was our best free throw shooter refused to get to the line even though he had ample opportunity all season. No one on the team has a better pump fake than Julius, but only once this year did he actually draw the foul from the defender who was off their feet. He should have lived on the free throw line. Where was the coaching to have him do this? Harrow tonight, drove one time when their was no defense beyond his man, and passed up one opportunity to do the same later. Frustrating. Cal, you are better than this!

Taking things too seriously? Because suggesting kids kill themselves on a public website after they lost a basketball game is just such a funny thing to say.
Team didn’t have it in them this year. A lot of talent, not a lot of heart. Flashes of fight, got frustrated too easily under pressure. It’s a lesson. No matter how talented you are, you can’t let it get to you. Buy in, play like every possession is your last.
Next years team will do UK proud on the court. As it is, this year wasn’t our year. Still great kids off the court and we should wish them nothing but the best.

What an embaressment this season has been. These kids were never ready for the stage they were thrust upon. Not together enough, not tough enough and no experienced upperclassmen to guide them through the hard times. Time to ditch the Hollywood routine and get back to fundemental ballin’. Cal needs to re-think his 5 stars or nothing program and find some tough-minded kids who want to be coached and be winners. No NCAA bid and no NIT. Can’t wait for next season. Go Big Blue!

I agree with 27. A lot of this is on Calipari….his ego is atrocious….I’m for the NIT though….it might humble him. Harrow is terrible, but several of them were awful tonight. And the dribble-drive is garbage….free-lancing, one-on-one crap. Get an offense Cal…you are a great marketer, recruiter, and ambassador….but your offense sucks. Everyone gripes about Goodwin and his propensity for turning the ball over, but he is the most tailor-made for his garbage offense…it’s out-of-control rabbit ball. I like Cal, but a lot this is on him.

215. I love UK, but don’t wear blue tinted glasses. Call a bust, a bust, even if they play for UK. Goodwin reminds me of Roderick Rhodes, a great play squeezed between 11 terrible plays. UK, as a team, cannot afford that ratio. I don’t know inside info like MATT JONES might, but watch Coach on the sideline trying to communicate with some of these guys and you can tell they might hear him, but just didn’t listen. Watch Cauly-Stein on the sideline pleading with his teammates, but that too fell on deaf ears. As a teammate, there is nothing worse than playing with a hard headed, selfish, I’m going to get mine teammate.

Wow…our fans can be some of the best in the country, but they can be some of the worst as well.
I’ve been just as disappointed by the results of this season as anyone in BBN…but some of these comments are horrible.
I don’t care if they were playing in “Farmer Bob’s Barnyard Basketball Tournament” – these are still my Kentucky Wildcats and I’ll watch and cheer for them.

This is why i hardly come here any more. All this trash talking about KY – past KY coaches, current KY players. And none of it is witty or insightful. “They suck”, ‘couldn’t guard my grandma’, etc. We won the NCAA last year, after an elite 8 and final four, and you would think KY was at the end of the Tubby era.
Hopefully, the players will learn how to play basketball & team basketball better, and Cal can figure out that if it works don’t scrap it.

As much heat as Archie takes,you can’t fault him, or WCS for effort. Give me those two guys back with one of the greatest recruiting classes in history coming in, and I’d take my chances. Cal does not click with Poythress and Harrow, they need to transfer or pray to God they get drafted. Noel should go get paid while he can. This team as a whole never got the whole KENTUCKY concept. The whole greatest tradition thing went over their heads and never stuck. At the end of they day, Kentucky teams must remember what KENTUCKY stands for, this group did not.

Glad we had 3 great practices leading up to this. There is no way with Cals recruiting talent and us being UK that we should not be in the tourney. Sad to say NCAA bball is at its worst in 30 years yet this combo will not, and does not deserve to be, in the tourney. I am glad we have Cal but never thought much of his actual coaching ability. I was impressed when he and the staff beat OSU and UNC back to back a couple years ago but Motta is horrible as well.

this season was a nightmare, they never became a team -no fight in this bunch=going to be along summer waiting for midnight maddness

Cal is a good recruiter but a terrible x o coach, we played awesome in zone and he switches us back to man! He never sets up plays for wiltjer to shoot, our offense set up sucks does any one notice how many of our players just stand around on offense while there setting screens at the top! What a disappointment did this team bring me ! Better luck next year

Not much we can do but look to next year. Archie and Alex were just too young to make a significant impact. Kyle, well he is what he is, no defence, and if he is hot on the permiter, things look good.
Petty dispointed that that a team with 3 McDonalds All American’s can’t baat a team without a SINGLE member.

Nashville and Kentucky will feel this….Hoping Vandy fans feel the void, guessing this won’t happen
