Kentucky needed a win Friday night against Vanderbilt to feel safe going into Selection Sunday. Vandy, the 10 seed in the tournament, was the ideal opponent for Kentucky on paper, and a win over the Commodores seemed imminent, we assumed.
We were wrong.
The Cats lost to Vandy, 64-48, in front of an electric Bridgestone Arena crowd consisting mostly of Kentucky fans. It was another one of those games where Kentucky never got it going and lacked the toughness and effort Coach Cal demands. Willie Cauley-Stein said after the game that those performances are reoccurring and seem to be happening every two or three games.
In his postgame press conference, John Calipari said, “We were stabbing ourselves in the eye.”
That sounds about right. I guess we should talk about it…
Ryan Harrow.
On the KSR pregame show, we spoke in depth about how Harrow was the key to cruising past Vanderbilt and making a run in both the SEC and NCAA tournaments. The point guard fuels the team and Kentucky has played well whenever Harrow is at his best.
Friday night, however, Ryan Harrow was far from his best. The sophomore point guard played his worst game as a Wildcat on a night when Kentucky needed him most. The aggression was there, which has been his problem at times in the past, but he just couldn’t put the ball in the basket. He finished the game with an atrocious 2-for-15 clip from the field for four points along with four turnovers. The majority of those missed looks came right around the rim, as Harrow struggled to finish on, by my count, ten layup attempts.
After the game, a teary-eyed Harrow took full responsibility for his team’s loss. “It’s on me,” he told reporters in the locker room. “I’m the reason we lost. There’s nothing else to say. If I would’ve played well, we would’ve won.”
Harrow has faced criticism all season and it will only be worse after Friday night’s loss. Regardless of how frustrated you are with his poor performance and spotty play this year, you almost have to feel for the kid right now as this could very well be the way he’s remembered at Kentucky. It was an awful night for him and no one is more disappointed in Ryan Harrow than Ryan Harrow.
Missed opportunities.
Vanderbilt held a lead over Kentucky for 38 of the game’s 40 minutes, but there was a stretch halfway through the second half when it looked like the Cats could claw back and make it a ballgame. After trailing by as many as 21 points, a quick 10-0 run capped off by a nasty Archie Goodwin dunk blew the roof off Bridgestone Arena and forced Vanderbilt to call a timeout. Vandy responded out of the break with a quick layup and a three-pointer off an offensive rebound to silence Big Blue Nation and cut off UK’s momentum, but the Cats would still get a couple more looks on the other end to try to slice away at the deficit.
However, Kentucky failed to capitalize on the opportunities Vandy was handing out as that promising 10-0 run suddenly became an afterthought. There was a stretch where Julius Mays missed a three-pointer at the top of the key; Alex Poythress missed the front end on a one-and-one; Mays missed another three-pointer; Harrow missed a jumper; Willie missed the first of a one-and-one; Harrow missed a layup; and Archie Goodwin missed a wide open three-pointer. That’s seven consecutive possessions where Kentucky could’ve made a move while Vandy was struggling on the other end.
Field goal percentage.
Vanderbilt: 50% from the field, 47.1% on three-pointers
Kentucky: 34% from the field, 28% on three-pointers
Simply put, Vanderbilt hit shots and Kentucky didn’t.
Pat yourself on the back, Kentucky fans.
Although the results don’t show it, the fans who made it inside Bridgestone Arena provided a great atmosphere for the Cats. The crowd was 99.999999% blue and the energy was high throughout most of the game, until the unfortunate outcome became apparent.
Bridgestone Arena, the SEC, and the city of Nashville are about to taking a beating in numbers once Big Blue Nation heads home. That arena will be empty for the championship game.
Tournament chances?
After seeing nearly every bubble team go down this weekend, confidence was high going into Friday night’s game. But after losing by 16 points to a team like Vanderbilt, Kentucky may find itself on the outside looking in. It’s not looking great for the Wildcats and the NIT is a very real possibility.
Calipari said he hopes his team is the best of the bad,
Other notes…
Alex Poythress: Six shots in his second attempt at a strong homecoming performance in Nashville.
Kyle Wiltjer: Zero three-pointers. One could argue that Wiltjer’s shooting was the second key to the game, behind Harrow.
Archie Goodwin played well but his free throw shooting could make a grown man cry. He’s now shooting 62% from the line on the season after missing three of his five attempts against Vanderbilt.
Kentucky shot 50% from the line (8-for-16) as a team.
Only two players reach double-figures, everyone else had seven or fewer.
There are at least three Kentucky players who can’t guard anyone. That makes Calipari’s decision to go from zone, which was working, back to man-to-man even more puzzling. That’s a move he must certainly regret.
Let’s sleep it off and dig deeper into Kentucky’s postseason possibilities tomorrow morning.

Drew:
Harrow will be back next year, no team, NO TEAM in their right mind would waste a draft pick on him.
He’ll either shape up next year, get tougher or never get off the bench.
It’s that simple.

Did Vandy just beat UK in back to back SEC tourney games? What? Oh well, #8!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:26 pm
I’m done with this team, and I’m done with this season. BBN showed up, the UK team did not. I don’t want anyone back from this team except maybe WCS or Noel, which won’t happen. No heart, no hussle, and no bball IQ. Let them sit there on draft night and hope their names are called. I’m UK since birth, but this season has had NOTHING even similar to UK bball. Let them play in the NIT. They don’t even deserve that. And RH should cry. He should be charged with fraud for using up a scholly this year, and NOT just him.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:28 pm
These cats r like a broke dick dog in a pound full of bitches in heat
March 15th, 2013 at 11:31 pm
NO…I dont “feel for” harrow. when the kid walks past coach and ignores instruction, and not just this game, I have no sympathy for him. Pack your crap and hit the road. You’re a bum!!!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:31 pm
This team is a eye sore! You guys don’t even deserve to play in the NIT!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:32 pm
Oh yeah…go ahead and have that softie poythress pack his shit too.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:33 pm
1. Harrow could transfer to D2.
http://kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=124097 I hope we at least get Wiggins and Randle out of this. Maybe this is our punishment for trying to do something in football.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:33 pm
I hope all of these guys come back so they can Sit their stupid selfish butts on the bench all season and watch real basketball players. They have everything going for them an everything they could want at their fingertips and they don’t give a damn. Harrow can go to hell, he’s had a year’s full of garbage performances to act like he cared but he waits til he blows the season against one of the worst sec teams. We don’t make the NCAAs and we shouldn’t. Turn down the NIT bid and let’s cut out the cancer in the offseason and keep those that actually want to play ball.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:33 pm
And I hope that shitter Stallings enjoys his little win this year (which WON’T get him into the tourney) bcuz next year, UK will be in full assrape mode, and he is first on the list. I HATE that bald asshole.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:34 pm
We got schooled by Vandy, a team full of doctors, lawyers, and professors. So sad. But let’s not dare blame coach Cal. Laughing My Ass Off!!!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:34 pm
The Cats laying an egg like this one is a real bummer….but then your 36DD girlfriend is so bummed that she goes to bed early on a Friday night-now that is defeat!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:35 pm
Blaming it on Ryan Harrow is a crap move. If other guys on the team stepped up and contributed like they should be able to we wouldnt be having this discussion. Poythress and Wiltjer are regular no shows making it easy to concentrate on keeping Ryan out of the game. Lack of effort from every spot on the floor was apparent from the tip off. This was a complete team loss and to blame one guy is ridiculous. Even Mays who usually is the toughest guy on the team wasnt quite there tonite. The fact that Vandy was shooting the lights out made it even worse. It was like a whole team of Elston Turners walked into the gum tonite. What else can you say. My hats off to Vandy. They were by far the better team tonite and being my second favorite sec team i will root for them to win it again this year. As for the NIT, Cal should say no thank you and concentrate his time to pulling in a couple more solid recruits for next year. I love our cats as much or more than anyone but its obviously time to call it quits this year. They have.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:36 pm
Course you are wrong about Wiltjer! He was 4 for 5 with limited minutes. Then you were bad wrong about Harrow when you were giving him high praise a couple games back. That kind of thinking would just encourage Cal to play him,…not that Cal would listen to any of us. Point being,…WRONG!!!! No,… Harrow should have never been on the floor all year long. I’d rather have any walk on playing than Ryan. Not just this game,..but all year. He’s worse than Saul Smith,..and I never thought I’d ever say that about any Kentucky player. I do feel really sorry for him, as I know he did his best. I feel very sorry for him. Has nothing to do with him not trying. He is flat out no good,…and it’s Cal’s job to realize that!!!! That’s what Cal gdets paid for doing,..knowing who should be on the court, and who should be on the bench. But you ARE RIGHT about one thing,….the zone. 10 to 0 while we used the zone,..over about 3 or 4 minute period. The zone hides Wiltjer’s deficiencies on defense, and allows for his offense,..which we desperately needed all year. But earlier in the year when asked why Cal will not use a zone he said,…and I paraphrase,..”Id rather go into a bathroom stall and sit on the toilet the whole game than to use a zone!!!” In other words,..he’d rather be stubborn and use a man to man and LOSE,..than to try a zone and win. Okay,…next question.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:37 pm
So the big question for next year is, do we have a great defensive player coming in. I know we have the offense but do we have an MKG or Liggins-type guy? Two would be even better.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:37 pm
In KY there are more barrels of bourbon than people.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:37 pm
Fire Calipari, we are an elite program, this shoud never happen!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:38 pm
Cal takes SOME of the blame NOT ALL. sometimes you dont know what you are getting with these kids. had he known how selfish and uncoachable these kids are, im sure he wouldnt have recruited them. I think he has been as frustrated as the fan base. i mean, you cant beat these kids asses like they used to. When harrow ignores you and pouts up or archie plays dumb and selfish or poythrss doesnt play at all…what is he supposed to do? he had no one to turn to. and dont give me this polson iq, heart shit either. he sucks worse that michael porter did.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:40 pm
This years team thought that they could ride the coattails of last years team all the way to the NBA. Well, guess what? Not so much. That is NOT what UK bball is about, and they never played UK bball. They were selfish, undisciplined, and overrated. Take that weak shit to the NBA and never come back! You will not be missed. And I love Coach Cal, but if his satisfaction comes from sending players to the NBA instead of winning titles here at UK, then he can take that shit with him and coach an NBA team.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:41 pm
The Vandy players in the picture seem to think it is really funny. Please, no NIT, just let the pain stop. This is Coach’s only team of his 1st 4 that failed to improve during the season heck that got worse from the 1st game until the season ending game. Looking forward to next season!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:42 pm
Many times this season it’s been on the players for several different reasons….but tonight has to be on Coach Cal:
Why switch back from zone?
Why keep Harrow in rather than play Polson (something I’ve wondered A LOT lately)?
Why let WCS stay in the game midway through the first half after picking up his second foul? At least take him out for a few minutes, everyone in the gym knew a third foul would come before halftime.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:42 pm
17 I agree, Cal has NBA talent galore on this team, there is no way we should be in the NIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:42 pm
48 points 48 what a suckfest
March 15th, 2013 at 11:42 pm
We’re a players first program, and we just set the gold standard for getting our asses handed to us by a 15-16 team. It’s the Kentucky Effect, baby. If this recruiting class was supposed to be #1, then I would hate to see the last place recruited team.
We are the Commonwealth’s program, we just can’t play worth shit in Tennessee. It doesn’t matter if you use man or zone, if you stop the other team using a zone, then it makes sense to do what is working. But I guess that is just the Cal Effect. Why doesn’t UK invite ESPN in to film how bad they played this year.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:44 pm
I thought WCS got second foul at 4:32 mark or so?
March 15th, 2013 at 11:45 pm
Nothing I hate more then negative ass fake bandwagon fans that give 19 year old kids a hard way to go! If you don’t like the team don’t watch them and shut your mouths! We JUST won a national title jack asses! These guys are freshman! What other team full of freshman are doing better that lost their star (Noel)! Go be a UofL fan we, Bbn doesn’t need you! Put these guys with next years talent and cats are best team ever in uk history! Faithful cat fan till I die, good or bad season!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:47 pm
I agree with #24 completely. The “Kentucky Effect” can EAD and DIAF. We are a laughing stock this year and while it is on the players first, who never really cared about playing for UK anyway, it’s on Cal just as much for creating this and not realizing that while he won it all last year, he did it with guys like Miller, Lamb, and Jones that chose to come back. We need a mix of 5 star freshman and experienced guys to get us there. Lots of other teams have great players that come back. Why can’t we?
March 15th, 2013 at 11:48 pm
#26 THANK YOU!! GO CATS!!
March 15th, 2013 at 11:49 pm
21…You must be Polson’s mom! otherwise, you would know how dumb that statement is. Polson CANT PLAY!!! he can’t guard, he cant pass, he cant shoot. cal took his chances with the BETTER player. Thats not saying much..i mean harrow is horrible, but much better than Polson.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:49 pm
Here’s hoping the team plane gets lost and ends up in the Bermuda triangle so we don’t have to see these faqqots ever again
March 15th, 2013 at 11:49 pm
28. Because coaches guilt players into staying. That’s the one promise that Cal makes that gets him recruits. He won’t stop you if you are ready. The problem is, he sometimes gets guys that aren’t ready and think they are. I am sure he expected Teague to come back, which is why he didn’t recruit a PG.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:49 pm
Team played with 0 heart as usual when needing to win. And coach needs to look at the mirror in the morning and say, WHY DID I COACH SO BADLY THIS YEAR WHEN MY TEAM NEEDED ME…..Cat fans need to know as well
March 15th, 2013 at 11:51 pm
OK #26. We all will just sit here and cheer for guys that obviously could give a shit about this program or it’s fans. Bet u supported Joker too. U sunshine pumpers kill me. Get a clue and call a spade a spade. Ugh.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:51 pm
This is on Cal. He’s not an “in-game” coach. He relies on the talent rather than any kind of game plan or adjustments. All he ever says in the timeout huddle is “You’re the best player. Go play like it!” Hell, I can do that. Great recruiter and motivator, but “coach” he ain’t. I said that when he came in and I say it now. If last year’s squad wasn’t super talented and driven then there’s no way we get coached to a championship. Another banner won’t happen again until we get someone else to make better game planning and in game decisions. I’m not saying fire him, I’m just saying someone else needs to do the dirty work while Cal gets the players.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:52 pm
It doesn’t matter if WCS got his second foul with :32. The guys just did not have it. I think Cal did not have these guys ready to play at all tonight or this season. You just can’t roll the ball out on the floor and let players figure it out. It’s called coaching. So, the one and done fiasco caught up with Cal. This season and recruiting class is on him. I think Cal should close the book on the season; go to Sarasota, FL and give Vitale head all summer at his gala. It seems that is what Cal did last off season.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:56 pm
#26 fans like you is why I sometimes question my loyalty to UK. Maybe I will go be a WKU Fan they made the NCAA tournament. UK did not.
March 15th, 2013 at 11:56 pm
Ya’ll are depressing!!! Seriously??? Sounds like half of ya wanna fire Calipari !!! Seriously??? Ya’ll remember how boring Tubby ball was? Ya’ll how horrible Billy Clyde ball was? We just won a championship last year!!! First one since 1998. Talent is what wins…this year was a difficult year. Our freshmen this year..they played like freshmen…they were up and down and inconsistent. Most freshmen are…and don’t forget that we also lost our best freshmen to a major knee injury down the stretch.
There were a lot of weaknesses on this team…there also was a lot of potential…it was that potential that had us so frustrated. I am bummed out about losing too. I certainly don’t want to get rid of Cal. I certainly don’t want to stop bringing the top HS players in the nation to UK. I also won’t give up on Archie, Alex or even Ryan Harrow. I really don’t think they wanted this season to go this way either.
Future is real bright for UK in basketball. Archie, Alex and Ryan…if they stay will be great additions with next year’s incoming freshmen class. Hating an 18 yr. old freshmen who struggle to adjust to the spotlight of big time college basketball at the biggest spotlight of all, UK is kind of pathetic…
March 15th, 2013 at 11:56 pm
Cal is certainly to blame to a degree for this season, but it isn’t all his fault. Name ONE coach that any of you think could’ve coached THIS team, minus Noel, to do any better? They were just a terrible team from the jump.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:00 am
I am as depressed about this loss as anyone, but good lord, do you have to be such ass hats? Do you really think they wanted to lose? The LAST thing they need is all of the hate being thrown at them. Some of our fans need to lighten up and get over themselves. If you can do better, then do it, otherwise STFU!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:01 am
And I am soooo sick of the “we won a championship last year omg!!!” people. Of course we did. We had talented, refuse to lose freshmen, and really good upperclassmen. That alone, does NOT make up for the lack of heart or effort from this years team. It was a great season, and a great accomplishment that was well deserved. But it has NOTHING to do with this team, or anything else.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:04 am
And 37 (kelkat), well said. I completly agree.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:04 am
Ole Miss just won. Season over for you, hillbillies.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:05 am
#21…Cal was quoted in the postgame when asked about why he switched back from the zone as saying it was starting to break down on three possessions.
He kept Harrow in because Poulson defensively is as big a liability as Kyle.
Cal is guilty of one thing and one thing only…he had scholarships to give and didn’t use them. I understand why, he wanted some to be sure he had enough for next year, he didn’t want guys bitching about playing time, he didn’t want guys transfering and scrwing up the APR numbers. All valid, again I understand the point of view. I just don’t agree with it. He had nothing to hold over these guys this season…he knew it, they knew it. If they didn’t perform there was no one else to turn to.

I love how being able to sit at home and arm-chair quarterback every decision makes you all the next John Wooden. The truth is that this is team is who it is. This team simply isn’t very talented and didn’t play with enough heart, enthusiasm, or energy to compensate for that. Sure, we can blame Cal for not bringing them along, but at some point players have to make plays. Cal cannot shoot layups for them, cannot make FTs for them, cannot hustle up and down the court, cannot dive on loose balls, cannot give them the testicular fortitude needed to fight for rebounds, cannot make open 3s…you get my point. Sure, you can blame Cal for switching back to man2man. I thought it would only be for a possession, but it persisted. You cannot sit back in the 2-3 forever and you saw them hit a couple 3s when he did go back to it late. The game was not won or lost on that. You cannot miss that many layups and allow your opponent to shoot that high of a percentage (particularly from 3) and expect to win. For all of you biatching, I didn’t hear he couldn’t coach last year. It is the old saying – win and you are a great coach, lose and you are an idiot. Frankly, none of you are qualified to tell the difference. Play Polson more….wow. Did you watch him tonight? In any event, the team didn’t achieve like we’d all want. But to turn into Louisville fans and turn on the program is ABSURD. If you want to be a bandwagon fan, go root for IU.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:06 am
I think back to how bad vandy was the first time we played them and how much better they r now. Our guys never improved all season, in fact I’d say most of them got worst. How can that not be on Cal?
March 16th, 2013 at 12:06 am
36 (Shit Happens), in the words of the great Clint Eastwood, don’t go away mad, just go away.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:07 am
F*ck you Gator. Louisville says hello from the football field u douchebags.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:09 am
45-
Vandy is the exact team we played both times. They just made more shots this go around. And, have you ever coached anything in your life? For a player to get better, they have to WANT to get better and then ACTUALLY DO the things that are needed to make them better. PERIOD.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:09 am
How NCAA championships does UK have? I believe it is 8. FU(I know it’s UF)only has 2. 2008 FU(I know it’s UF) stayed home. Go to hell bitch.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:09 am
Hind-Sight says ~ Starting Five (with Nerlens) All Year for a Better DEVELOPED Team at the End of the Year: Polson, Goodwin, Mays, Nerlens, Hood (yes, Hood)
Bench to Bring in the Beasts: Cauley-Stein, Poythress, Wiltjer, Harrow
After Nerlens gets hurt, then just move Stein up to a starter. Thoughts?
March 16th, 2013 at 12:10 am
hey 42, Teddy Bridgewater thinks your defense played worse than Uk’s did tonight. Hope you get raped in the tourney, you entitled asshat.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:10 am
50 -
We’d be down 10 before the first TV timeout.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:11 am
NIT…NIT…NIT…NIT!!! LOL!!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:11 am
Personally, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that they didn’t care. It just looked like bad chemistry and lack of leadership. And anonymously trashing kids behind ridiculous names is cowardly.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:11 am
I hope harrow never plays another minute for UK. A wuss at PG is not what any UK team should ever have. We’ve had that all year long with him. Good riddance and I hope to never hear the name again
March 16th, 2013 at 12:12 am
Hearing Wiltjer and Harrow will announce they are going to transfer as soon as school gets out.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:13 am
# 46, you prove my point. As Eastwood says, “Don’t piss down a man’s back and tell him it’s raining.” Maybe I will just go away and never root for UK again. GO TOPS!! I think the TOPS cost the Joke his job too. Go to hell blue.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:13 am
#53- You guys actually lost a bowl game to the UL Cardinals, and u wanna talk shit to us, when FB is your sport? um, ok. Get a life. See you next year u POS Gaf. I mean, really.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:15 am
Gators,
That is what you said in 2008 was it not? I think you all got beat out in the NIT. You won’t win the NCAA this year either. FU(I know it’s UF) will choke. The gator chomp looks like a trailer trash whore taking up the ass in the back of her cousin’s truck.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:16 am
I’m having a hard time understanding Lunardi’s projections. I realize Ole Miss just beat Mizzou but he said he’d keep them in even with a loss. They lost to Miss St and South Carolina. Those are horrible losses!!!! Also, Missouri now has 10 losses and they aren’t a bubble team? We beat both of these teams and there’s so many teams with 7-9 losses with a lock. We have 3 losses to top 10 teams and another loss to a top 25 team. Take those “good” losses away and we’re right there with the other teams that have a lock. I understand our strength of schedule was down because of SEC play, but you can’t tell me the A-10 and MWC are better than the SEC. They have more teams projected in right now than the SEC.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:16 am
I’d like to see the SEC represented well somehow, but expect the typical early round flameout from the Gators. It’s kind of what everyone has come to expect.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:17 am
Stoops!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:17 am
53 Remember when we beat you just 6 days ago? If you can’t beat an NIT team how are you going to compete for a national title? Just saying
March 16th, 2013 at 12:18 am
Cal is a garbage coach without NBA ringers. Looks like he will be headed back to his 5th NIT.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:18 am
#44 ~ Poythress or Harrow should have NEVER been starters this year! Ever. They stand around three out of every four games like they’re lost in their momma’s closet and they continue to start. DUMB & STUBBORN
March 16th, 2013 at 12:18 am
Oh, and Gator, since we r such a shitty, NIT bound team, what does it say that we beat ur team last Saturday? Bad lose for u guys I guess. Dumbass. Get a life.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:19 am
Harrow just wasn’t the answer for y’all…kid is avg. What is the most head scratching thing is Poythress…if that dude had half of MKG’s motor, he’d be alright…but he has like no desire??? Goodwin will get you 10-15 pts, and Harrow, Mays, and Polson are serviceable role players. Just don’t understand Alex.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:19 am
Hey there is one bright spot from this season. Cal won’t have to have as many wins vacated!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:19 am
Gator, do you dream about UL every night like your football players do?
March 16th, 2013 at 12:20 am
we will beat uofl in the ncaat.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:21 am
Your mom said she’d beat my dad last night too. Guess what? She did! Asshole.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:22 am
17 and 22… You are fuggin morons. Elite 8, final 4 and a national championship. Open your hillbilly eyes you piece of sh*+ rednecks. I’m anxious to see what you have to say next year after we go 40-0 and win our second national championship in 3 seasons.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:23 am
This is why we HAVE to offer Domonique Hawkins. Yeah we dont NEED him this year… We didnt NEED Anthony Hickey last year. But if we had him now we would be a much better team. You need your back up PG to atleast be a viable option.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:25 am
Vandy lost their top 6 players from last year, same as us. Difference being, they improved as year went on, we did not.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:25 am
I think that it would be much more fun tonight if we all gang up on the Gator POS that has come by to add his @ cents. I mean, it’s not like we are lacking in material for this asshat. Seriously.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:25 am
64, Really, you want to go there? You have back to back championships because of NBA players. After they left you were in the NIT and haven’t been back to the Final Four since. Last year was so close but you lost to that Loserville team WE beat twice. Cal has won 2 SEC championships the last 4 seasons? How many have you won? Zero that’s right. And one of those we beat you. 8 NCAA titles and 26 SEC Tourney titles, I know you’re trolling on our site because you can’t compete with that!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:27 am
MODS – remove 56. do your job.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:28 am
I actually wouldn’t mind Florida winning the title, mainly because that would mean UofL and IU wouldn’t. Besides an SEC school winning, Florida’s just not really a rival in terms of powerhouse programs (ex. UNC, Kansas, Duke). They’re occasionally good, but never for long. I could handle that.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:28 am
70, uofl is playing better than you all right now. And are actually having to beat ranked teams that can compete and will be in the NCAA tournament. As much as I hate uofl, I just don’t see you all beating them, accept it. I mean you all couldn’t handle an NIT team just 6 days ago.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:28 am
Drew are you serious. You really want this team in the NCAA? We just got totally embarrassed by a very bad Vandy team and you want UK to get another beatdown in the 1st round of the NCAA? Dude you need to forget this group and start football talk from now on this basketball season is over for UK. No NIT talk either as it would be even worse to lose in the losers tournament. This is the worst scoring UK team I have seen in over 50 years so time to forget this bunch and hope the cancer leaves before next year.

1999-2010 — nothing
2011, final four
2012, #8
2013 — we sucked
i’ll take it and be very happy
March 16th, 2013 at 12:29 am
It would be like Arkansas winning it again. A nice reminder that they exist.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:30 am
56 as much as I hate paying attention to rumors, it does make me wonder if that’s why Wiltjer hasn’t seemed lately like his heart has been with this program.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:30 am
Gator boy knows what’s up. He knows his trollin is just that. I mean, a “great” football team in the SEC that can’t even beat UL who basically had a MAC schedule? Yeah, he knows what’s up. And, correct me if I’m wrong, but UL also knocked his team outta the final 4 last year in bball… Geez. Looks like whether it’s UK or another Kentucky team, we STILL rule them.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:31 am
You win some, you lose some, got to take the bad with the good. But the sour grapes fans are the real losers, embarrassing to hear the whiners and blamers, like they could do better.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:34 am
# 86 had words on here but they didn’t say anything.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:34 am
82,all wrong
March 16th, 2013 at 12:35 am
2-10 in football, NIT in basketball
March 16th, 2013 at 12:35 am
#86, I’m not a whiner nor am I a sour grapes fan, but I’m not claimin that I, myself, could do better. But Cal gets paid really well to evaluate talent, and from what we’ve seen, no one that he recruited could do too much either. Just because we have honest opinions about the product on the court, it doesn’t make us bad fans. Maybe we just aren’t as stupid as you are.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:36 am
Yea 82 must be drunk because I am pretty sure UK was National Champions in 2012
March 16th, 2013 at 12:38 am
89 So what? We fired our FB coach, and we have a stellar class comin in for bball, so your post means what? Your an idiot.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:39 am
Coeperit exitus ab Nashville….Hoping Vandy, Ole Miss, BAMA , Florida fans will make the tournament some thing to talk about My guess is we will hear crickets….Hope I am wrong
March 16th, 2013 at 12:41 am
Harrow is the worst point guard in THE HISTORY OF WILDCAT BASKETBALL. End of story, should have stayed home with mystery illness
March 16th, 2013 at 12:42 am
# 93 I don’t the whole nation needs to see the SEC is a joke without UK. Let them see an arena with 100 fans in the stands.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:42 am
Look, to all of you rival fans that wanna come here and involve yourselves in a discussion that is amongst UK fans, get a life. We usually beat ALL of you at bball and we have a new coach in FB that is doin great things. We DO NOT care about you. We are always focused on UK and the big picture. You can say what you want, and crack on us while we are down, but you will NEVER, EVER be the most STORIED program in all of basketball, so we will just write you off as the haters that you are. And if your clutch move is makin fun of us at football, well then, that is on you. Seriously. Find a life and EAD.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:44 am
Yes, i have been very disappointed this year but only because our/my expectations are so high. After every loss I still have to think these are freshman, ( few uppers n walk ons but no Pattersons or MKG ) what if this was my child / relative would I be so mad because he is not doing what I WANT or expect him to be (Lebron or AD at KY.) !!!! I am still very happy about the 2012 NCAA championship that Calipari brought and coached to Kentucky!!!! At this point I know these are freshman and they will be back for another year to improve their chances at a career in the NBA and help get us 2014–#9 !!!! I am at peace with that and am so thankful for these 5* players that choose to play for our wonderful program under the best coach in college basketball – Coach Calipari !!! If we make the bubble this year or Coach excepts to play in the NIT then we should all be behind our program and use it to be better next year. LOYALTY is something our fanbase should learn. Great fans are easy to have when times are great…… it is when times are tough that you see who are your true fans!!!!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:46 am
UK SUCKS!!!!!!!!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:47 am
Do you miss me yet?
BTW if anyone needs a babysiter hit me up!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:48 am
Someone being a “true fan” does NOT mean accepting mediocracy either. Fan means “fanatic” and that is what our fans are, and I thank God for that. True fans are as likely to call out a bullshit effort as they are to praise a good play, a great coaching job, or a good player. Why is that so hard for some of you “no bad words against UK” people to understand?
March 16th, 2013 at 12:48 am
and for all you fans that post here because tumbleweeds are blowing across your sites or no sites, go away or phone a friend, if u have any !!!!
March 16th, 2013 at 12:48 am
98 I said the same thing to your ma last night.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:54 am
102 thanks for telling my mom how much UK SUCKS but she already knows how horrible they are
March 16th, 2013 at 12:55 am
97. What if they don’t come back? What if they toddle off to the draft and accept their paycheck? It pretty much would set the standard that you could come to UK, suck and still get drafted on “potential.” I’m all for guys leaving if they earned it. Last year’s team, even thou some would have been better served staying, at least earned their spots. These guys haven’t earned a lottery pick. That’s what annoys me. If they come back and work hard, I’ll be very proud and stand by them. But coming to UK and not giving it your all and leaving it all on the floor, and then waltzing to the draft like you earned it makes me feel a bit used.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:57 am
104. Have to say..I agree.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:00 am
102 I didn’t tell your ma how much UK sucked. I just told her to suck, and she knew what was up. I’m sure you already knew that though. I’m sure that countless men knew that with her. Good job, good effort though. EAD.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:02 am
106 Sorry, I don’t think anyone’s mom would hook up with someone named queen
March 16th, 2013 at 1:02 am
I agree with your BS effort but I will not blast Calipari for not being a mind reader with these kids. Dodgeball really? I think he would have dressed up as a mermaid if that would have helped. I totally agree that this team gave BS effort but I truly believe with a few of the “right players” to hold them accountable, next years team will again win the NCAA tournament. There is something missing from this team and Calipari cannot dress regardless of how much he wants to! We need a Cousins, Bledsoe, AD, MKG, on every team, they were leaders due to “not being scared to throw down if need be attitude” and that powerful message and fearless leadership has been lacking from this team all year.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:03 am
I agree with you Rae 104. I think that that is why so many Uk fans are frustrated. Why should these guys get to go into the NBA draft after they have never proven themselves on the court in a UK jersey. It’s an insult to us, the draft, and to other great college players that don’t have the benefit of playing for UK, but are better than these guys.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:05 am
107, I am a woman, and I could give 2 shits about his mom. But I take offense to trolls and idiots, and he is both.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:09 am
most of you guys are spoiled brats its time for your moms to give a bottle and put you in bed and pray that you grow up to have a life!!!!!! it’s just a game and the player are still kids.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:10 am
104, I agree, but I thought Lamb and Jones were gone also. They decided to come back and win themselves and us a title. If it was because of the lockout then it worked out for all of us. Archie and Alex have dropped a lot in the mock drafts and according to the famous MJ they are returning
If they leave hopefully they will have the chance to develop to their full potential, BUT with the way both have played like true freshman this year that is a big “if” and I hope they save enough to come back and get their degree to get a real job in the Kentucky land that loves them because they played here, after/if it doesn’t work out.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:13 am
The good news is cal and wes have alredy purchased better players for next year. Wes won’t get caught with only buying cal 4 stud players for next season. Wes learned his lesson the hard way. Cal needs future nba all stars to overcome his roll it out there style. Help is only a few duffle bags full of money away.

See what you said there #114? National Champs UK. Um yea, WE won it ALL last year and we beat shitters like IU and UL to do it. So blow me. And make sure to come back when YOUR team wins it all. Which you won’t because they won’t. Does your mommy know that your up this late on the computer? Doubt it.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:27 am
Wonder how many McDonald’s All Americans are on Vandy’s team?
March 16th, 2013 at 1:28 am
He plays 38 minutes a game and provides nothing to the team, yet never gets benched. Who needs seniors? Good riddance (sorry kid, not trying to hurt your feelings, but sometimes the truth hurts).
March 16th, 2013 at 1:29 am
Always VERY gratifying to see ALL the racists & whyte supremacists that comprise BBN “crying-in-their-beer” (especially sooo close to St. Patrick’s Day)…..
what a glorious way to commence the weak-end, knowing UK on outside-looking-in re: “Big Dance”
(LMAO)
March 16th, 2013 at 1:29 am
I just watched the highlights of the 2012 season while listening to Adele’s “Someone Like You”. I am now completely depressed. I’m talking getting dumped on your birthday depressed. Someone, ANYONE, cheer me up. A joke possibly? Maybe a highlight video of next year’s recruits set to the Bigmouth Billy Bass tune “Don’t worry, Be Happy”? Drew, this is your area of expertise.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:29 am
115. All your rough talk is kinda hawt. Jus sayin.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:34 am
120- I only speak the truth.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:34 am
my bad 122. lol
March 16th, 2013 at 1:37 am
120- we aren’t racists. We just hate dumb people that rely on racist shyt to further their agenda. So, in conclusion, blacks are fine, and u suck. Get it?
March 16th, 2013 at 1:38 am
To WTF?Loyalty??? — any commenter who communicates with a phrase like “I am at peace with that” probably shouldn’t come to this site after a loss. You have unreasonable expectations, and you’re only setting yourself up for disappointment in your fellow man. You might want to do some inner searching to find out why you seem to be attempting to surround yourself with others who don’t meet your standards. (Also, you include WTF in your name, which seems to indicate some hostility. Maybe you are more like the others here than you think? So much to ponder.)
March 16th, 2013 at 1:46 am
that maybe your team will actually be good enough some day……please don’t lose faith, and listen to momma cause she said “she is the devil….waterboy if u don’t understand” that MAYBE u will not have to go to other teams websites to post annoying, irritating, and lonely posts. I do feel sorry for you if that means anything and hope it will help to raise your self esteem
March 16th, 2013 at 1:47 am
I wonder why I’m unable to get a Joe Lunardi update. It’s like ESPN is hiding him someway. God, I miss Joe Lunardi’s opinion, and bracketology.
March 16th, 2013 at 2:11 am
#124 – BLUEBISCUIT……
you are completely right, because normally I only observe this sight and never post. I often wonder why the true UK fans that are disappointed and post here argue with the other UK fans instead of the other haters and trolls on this site, again goes back to loyalty which is why this is the only night i will post here this year. Thank you for calling me out and reminding me why I do not post and waste my time with those like you that tell me i should not come to this site after a disappointing loss… If we would have been sitting in seats beside each other I would have bought you a beer and said “I am at peace with that, it is what it is, we will win next year” with a smile and a uk fan loyalty like family! I do not need to do any inner searching…… because i know who i am, i expect nothing out of my fellow man or woman so i am never disappointed. WTF is a phrase/lighthearted joke we use at the job that i love, but thank you for reminding me not to waste my time by posting anything. Take care my fellow blue biscuit pondering man, go big blue !!!
March 16th, 2013 at 2:12 am
I miss college basketball. When we’re good or even just decent, I watch other games because they effect our rankings, etc. This year sputtered and died in mid December and never recovered.
March 16th, 2013 at 2:15 am
This is a fiting end to the Cats season (except for an NIT game or two). These guys just never came together and kept going back to playing AAU ball. We’ll kick butt next year but we’re just going to have to settle for a lackluster season from a bunch of guys who will be sitting on the bench as reserves next year if they don’t enter the draft. You can’t blame Cal…these guys just didn’t “get it”.
March 16th, 2013 at 2:33 am
AAU ball is the devil as far as competitive college basketball goes. It’s amazing to me how our guys from last year “got it” fairly early on, but this years version never did. The parity in Division 1 basketball is due to the fact that there are a lot of physically “inferior” players fundamentally outplaying the AAU “All Stars.” Have fun sitting on the bench or playing D-League ball to the underperforming crapsacks we have had to witness this year. I bet even Terrence jones wishes he’d have come back; he’d be a top 5 pick this year and be in a better spot for his second contract….
March 16th, 2013 at 2:56 am
Some of you on here have to just realize we were young and had no leadership this year.. Honestly I hope that some of these boys come back to play because we will need some sense of leadership on next years team. don’t get me wrong 2012′s team was amazing but if you think that we can win with teams like that year in an year out than you are ignorant. We need to support these players to come back next year and win a championship. We shouldnt just tell them to pack up and leave because y’all will be crying next year too when we’re in the same boat as this year.
March 16th, 2013 at 3:22 am
This was very, very far from just Harrows fault. Poythress was a spectator as usual and Mays was as worthless as usual in a game that matters. Wiltjer spent a lot of time on the bench so I’m not gonna blame him. Cal screwed this up as much as any player on the team did.
March 16th, 2013 at 3:41 am
Alex Boythress…the Barnum circus is in town today (Cinti)….come on up and take your DISAPPEARING ACT on the road !!!
March 16th, 2013 at 3:47 am
you bandwagon fans go root for Louisville and stop bashing our players. Yeah we had a down year but we lost our best player and had one of the youngest team in the nations. You all are retarded.
March 16th, 2013 at 3:48 am
nation*
March 16th, 2013 at 3:48 am
I really hope Ryan stays. The fact of the matter is that he wasn’t ready to lead this year, maybe when has another year to learn as backup pg and the pressure is taken off of him, he will be ready. And as far as it being his fault, he’s no less to blame than any other player. This is a team sport and no one else stepped up for this game. Out coached and out played. We’ll regroup next year, and if we do somehow get in the tournament, I hope our players don’t squander the opportunity for a little redemption.
March 16th, 2013 at 3:50 am
No more* to blame
March 16th, 2013 at 3:52 am
Well this is my last post til next season.
Cant think of a more disappointing team than this one……
….just WOW…..
March 16th, 2013 at 6:10 am
If the kids are not ready to play. I’m blaming the guy who gets 4 million a year to make sure they are ready. Coach cal I love you but if you go to the nit again someone else will have too love you.
March 16th, 2013 at 6:13 am
What do these names all have in common: Shabazz Mohammed, Anthony Bennett, Dez Wells, Montrez Harrell, Mark Lyons, Arsalan Kazemi, Alex Oriakhi, Gary Harris give up?
Every one of these players visited and was offered a scholarship at UK. Think any of them would have helped this basketball team.
March 16th, 2013 at 6:19 am
On this site one can threaten the coaches and players but not say my name. Rhymes with legendary NASCAR driver #3.
March 16th, 2013 at 6:30 am
I plead for BBN, to get your tickets for the NCAA and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drown out those UofSMELL fans. This is a horrible horrible night. They locked up a 1 seed and we are probably out, all we have to look forward to is to watch them demise in the tourney and it will happen. The thought though of them on our floor as a 1 seed is too much for me to stomach. Folks if you can, let’s make Rupp Arena Blue and do everything we can to drown out that trash. PLEASE!! If we can’t be a part of the dance, let’s make their experience as miserable as we possibly can.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:25 am
One of the worst UK teams—ever.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:40 am
Everyone saying this team is loaded with NBA talent…no it’s not…the truth is only Noel from this team will ever really play in NBA…Poythress, Archie and WCS will get drafted…but never really get meaningful minutes…truth is we are just not that good…we were close to good (if Noel hadn’t got hurt and we got Oriaki), then you have a good team…but this is all ok…Cal will have a year like this every so often, but what he gives us in the other years (like the last 3) is worth it…we play for one thing…CHAMPIONSHIPS…give me number 9 in the next 4 years and I’m happy…PLUS…a season like this takes all pressure off next years team…this team was low on talent (despite all this NBA talk garbage), inundated with pressure from an overranking and a previous championship team and low on luck (not getting Oriaki and losing Noel)….WE will be back….so it’s ok
March 16th, 2013 at 7:40 am
You blue necks are putting on a great display of support for your team. I wish the new recruits could read these comments and how supportive blue neck nation is to their team. Why would Wiggins want to come to a school that has fans like this! The poor kids coming in next year will get the same treatment if they under achieve. I know that to be true because you were talking how great this squad was at the beginning of the season and now look at you. Stop blaming the kids and looking at the non-coaching recruiter u have on the sideline. There’s 300 high school coaches out there that could have coached that team to a championship last year. When will u learn he’s not an X’s and O’s coach. He’s a great salesman that can’t develop players. The kids aren’t standing around out there like they’re lost because they’re bad players they do it because they haven’t been coached what to do. At least u will get a #1 seed in the NIT. Go Cards!
March 16th, 2013 at 7:43 am
You bunch of worthless, fake ass, spoiled rotten “fans” need to jump off a building. Fire Calipari? Really dumbass rednecks? Fire the guy that won a title last year and almost did it back to back in 2011? Why? Because we rely on freshman and once every 5 years and we only win 21 games instead of 30? You don’t deserve the class coming in next year. You won’t appreciate it. You deserve Gillespie. And you’re morons if you don’t think Poythress, Noel, WCS and Archie are gone. And besides Archie, all are garaunteed to make big money. So keep hating.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:44 am
To all the appologists tha say uk had an inconsistent year, witn ups and downs, what ups did they have, beting missouri and fla at home? Its been pretty much down and very consistent….consistently bad.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:50 am
Gators- actually idiot….Florida has more “hillbillies” than Kentucky….do your research before you speak.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:53 am
All you IDIOTS who are WHINING LIKE LIL Biches just STFU….i bet you are the same GROUP who kept asking “Is Jon Hood gonna get some minutes this year?”
BBN is with these guys win or lose….to all the rest eat a dik.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:01 am
Wow, I hope you people don’t turn on your kids like this if they have a bad game in little league!
March 16th, 2013 at 8:02 am
If u r a man & true uk fan Matt u will read this. I know what I am sick of your negative BS it makes me sick. U all get on the radio pick every thing apart and u act like u all know every thing & have the right to say negative BS. U chatter on like a soap opera at times. U beat the kids up verbally. U can’t just leave well enough alone. U gave to go on
& on about negative things. I am tired of u. Those players r just kids yes kids. No team will b like last year or 5 years ago or 25 years ago. Each team in unique in its own way. Everyone has good & hard times. Leave them alone they r all a piece if the UK wildcat puzzle & they r what matters not your bull shit. U take calls from ppl & u let them ramble on and belittle the players why I don’t know but I am a true ky wildcat win or lose. I bleed blue til the day I die. Life has taught me that u have to appreciate each day and all that u have. We win, we lose, we struggle and we have great times. Support the players and team positively or not at all
March 16th, 2013 at 8:11 am
150 is right…..151 i see where you’re coming from but you don’t have to read or listen to KSR if you dislike what you see. I appreciate what they do. Lets be honest Cal has been saying all year the same exact thing….to true basketball fans we knew this team didn’t have it. We have been spoiled from our rich history and recent success. Think about next year….gonna be alot of fun!
March 16th, 2013 at 8:19 am
Start with Cal as to whom to blame for this season. He recruited them and failed to coach them up. You need at least some returning experience every year. Better start including that thinking in his recruiting strategy. Being out of the top 25 and not making the NCAA tournamant is never acceptable, damn the excuses. It’s embarassing and disheartening. I don’t blame the fans at all.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:27 am
I think the national media is part to blame for the loss. Of course it boils down to making shots and getting some defensive stops at the end of the day. However I feel this team played with a lot of pressure because of the media making statements that they “need” to win. In comparison to Vandy who had nothing to lose and team that shoots a lot of threes. It can be a dangerous mix. So you have a team cutting loose and just playing and a team playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Two different mind sets. I still think this team has done enough to get in the tournament. If the same criteria is fairly applied to all teams in looking at their full seasons. Does the win versus Maryland look a little better now that they beat Duke in ACC tournament? Will Duke drop to a number two seed? This is has to be a bad loss, right? Did they not lose to Miami by 30? Bad loss right? At the end of the day it is what it is!
March 16th, 2013 at 8:31 am
I am more humiliated about being included in the group called BBN, after reading the comments posted here by a bunch of hate filled twitter brains, than the performance of my team. They are my team, and will be. You people should be ashamed of the way you post about these children.
UK will be fine with you or without you. Leave your hate written on the walls of your house, not here. Shame on you people. This is just awful. I just hope the rest of the world realizes it is just a few people that write these things as the cowards they are. I doubt these things would have been written if their real name and address had to be listed.
Go UK. Now and forever.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:35 am
This happens, it happens a program that goes back to around 70 years has seen this before. Sometimes these high school stars take off, take 2 or 3 years to take off or never take off. You had a team with a killer that got hurt, some potentially great player and some who probably would have been given 2 mop up minutes a game, trying to play key roles. If they had gotten Lebron James that stood around, he would still be just standing around. Taking about 3 players to mold for upperclassman would be a good idea, and maybe getting back a coach that can teach free throws. Since anybody can be anybody, all the hate for Cal and the team is coming from opposing fans for the most part. Another thing is very apparent looking back over a program that has had success for 70 years, many fans of teams that have one more National Championship than Villanova, could have a very good chance seeing the next one with their great grandchildren.

We need to chill out and remember last year and think about next year. Ranting and raving about how bad this team is will not change anything. We simply did not have a PG with fire in his belly and that is a requirement to succeed in this game. We are still KENTUCKY and the media will have to get used to us cause next year they will be hating us for winning it all and having another sensational class coming in in 2014. This year was a fluke and nothig more so kick back, have another bud and enjoy the tournament. Support this group!

Kentucky fans are getting to be worse than UT fans. Let it go people.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:45 am
our defense aint the prob…Van only scored 64 points….we got no plan offense…48 points…good grief…
March 16th, 2013 at 8:48 am
6 assists and mays had 3

All the haters of fans with a critical opinion think about these facts a minute. Single game tickets to Rupp Arena costs $55.00 Lower and $47.00 Upper per game. Seats to the SEC Tournament costs $345 per book for uppers, and not to count room, board, transport. Tickets to away games in the SEC are priced at least $10 per seat higher than any other game on the schedule because UK fans will pay it.
My point is that major college athletics have become almost as expensive as professional athletics and if it was JUST A KIDS GAME, college AD’s would not be pricing their product like a professional game!

I am a life long Kentucky fan and I have never said this about another team. I HATE this team. They are an embarrassment to everything the blue and white stand for. F$$k them. Let them go get easy money and I’ll see them in four years dominating bball in europe. And for those that day”don’t give the kids a hard time,” eff you to. These kids came here to make money and are enjoying a free ride. Fans have the right to say whatever they want about them, and the way they played all year makes th deserve all the criticism they get. Again I HATE this team. Cal better pull his head out of his own a$$ and offer the Madison Central kid a scholly. Quit worrying about him not being a top rated player and actually learn to develop a player. If he had not spent all yer grooming Noel, maybe Stein would have known what he was doing. If Cal doesn’t win it all next year he should be FIRED, and I’ll be happy to start putting the for sale signs up for him.

We welcome the Kentucky Effect as the 4th seed.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:10 am
Wiggins’ coach was recently quoted speaking with his parents and he said that they will choose whatever school gives him the best chance at winning the National Championship…….UK > FSU….come on down! Wiggins + Randle = 40-0

Kentucky effect…hah! Cal should’ve spent more time practicing, than being an ESPN bitch. The NIT train is pulling into Lexington…get on losers!
March 16th, 2013 at 9:19 am
If Cal “regrets” going back to man defense, then he should regret ignoring the obvious mistake he’d just made when Vandy ripped off 6 pts in about a minute! That’s when he should’ve went right back to zone. There was still plenty of time at that point. and those points came by the 3 ball! Which is what the zone is supposed to help take away. We went to zone and surprised everyone, staying in it long enough to make a 9-0 run and completely swing momentum our way. Vandy was reeling at the time. That’s how you hide slow feet, if you have to. NOT GOING BACK TO THE ZONE was the bigger more glaring mistake! How do you STAY in man the rest of the game???? Cal has given us very few reason to question anything he’s done so far in four years. WOuldn’t trade him for anyone. But that whole scenario is a head scratcher. Feel for Harrow, he seems like a good kid. It definately wasn’t ALL on him last night. He had plenty of help. Even from the bench.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:25 am
Who is this “We” that assumed Vandy to be an easy win?
March 16th, 2013 at 9:25 am
when you score 48 points u don’t win regardless of what defense you play…a point guard takes 15 shots and 1 assist…holding a team to 64 points is pretty good…but we have no offense…this team needed some plays to rely on so they didn’t have to think one up….p.s. – it is legal to pass on the fast break …
March 16th, 2013 at 9:27 am
Cal took the best talent that was available this year. He missed on a few that could have helped make a difference. No way he could know the best talent available would end up being this soft and uncoachable.
If you take players with less talent based on the speculation that they might be here another year you still end up with a worse team on the court this year.
After an Elite 8, Final 4, and a National Championship, we finally had a down year in a year when the overall talent level in CBB was way down. Its going to happen and any idiot that thinks there’s a better coach out there and our results over the past 4 years aren’t acceptable is truly a moron.
Would you rather recruit 4 year players and have 1 good year every 5 years, or continue to recruit the best talent and have 1 bad year every 5?

This is worse than any season under Tubby or Billy.G……….Cal should make a HUGE donation to the University to pay back his pathetic performance this season.
Just Saying
March 16th, 2013 at 9:45 am
And honestly, I really do hope Poythress, Harrow, Goodwin, and WCS come back. Goodwin doesn’t have the BB IQ to succeed immediately in the NBA, Poythress just doesn’t get how to play against top talent and would mentally be broken within 3 months, Harrow needs a few years where he isn’t forced to play such a large role and everyone is always complaining how thin our bench is (he wouldn’t be drafted, im just hoping he doesn’t transfer), and WCS could potentially be a lottery pick with another year to develop his offensive skills.
I know they all underachieved this year, but I would rather see the kids develop another year and have successful NBA careers than go to early, struggle, and flame out of the league in a couple of yrs.
Bottom line is many idiots complain that we dont have any upperclassmen, yet they dont want to see kids that dont fall in the lottery after their freshman season return for another year to develop? I get it that they underachieved, but I would love to see them all come back and further develop all aspects of their game over the next few years.
Only 2 I feel confident will leave is Goodwin and Noel. Goodwin is not even close to being ready to do anything other than play D League or in Europe right now, but I think the kid is going to take his chances. Noel is the only legit NBA talent as of right now.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:46 am
kind of reminded me of the WVA game…no set plays…that year we had a good and deep front line but instead we put up 32 threes and lost…
March 16th, 2013 at 9:48 am
48 points…
March 16th, 2013 at 9:48 am
171) everyone knows you should never go full retard
March 16th, 2013 at 9:49 am
I’m all for keepin Cal and letting him continue recruiting and coaching just as he has for these past four years. I’m satisfied knowing that we are still the #1 program in college basketball with the #1 coach. Those who doubt this are either stupid or are on here merely to stir crap just cause they like the smell.
Let’s give most of the credit for last night’s loss to the deserving team from Vandy. They played a great game. I congratulate them for their overall improvement this season. Kevin Stallings, like it or not, did a very nice job coaching the Commodores.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:07 am
Wow! The comments are disgusting as usual after a loss. I have pulled for ryan harrow all year. I will continue to pull for him. I hope he comes back next year. He is a SOPHMORE. I love the “fans” that say he isn’t a D1 p.g. if any of you truly believe that. Then you’re a moron. How bout mays? Why does he get a pass. He has been in college 6 years. He has layed more eggs then anybody. He talks the talk, but he can’t walk the walk.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:08 am
Lets face it guys, this team is what it is. Out two best scorers couldnt defend anyone. This team never came together as a team. Tonight when our guards kept driving in drawing 4 of Vandy’s players and insisted on shooting instead of dishing it out for wide open threes tells me alot. I would love to know what our assist total for the year was. I believe they wanted to win and tried their best, but I just dont think the guard play was able to create offense for us this year. Also, down low we didnt have a consistent physical post player ( Nerlens was shaky in the post and WCS as well. ) Too many obstacles to overcome for a young team. I think we have good players, just that they need more than one year to develop. WE DID WIN IT ALL LAST YEAR!!!!. Some of you guys need to chill out. Cal is a good couch, even though I do question him going away from the zone when we went on the run. All of this will be forgotten soon and we will be cheering in the Bluegrass again. This just wasnt our year
March 16th, 2013 at 10:10 am
I liked our teams that were well conditioned, where everyone runs on the break, knows what to do on the break, and we score between 80 and 90 lots of games…then, if we had to go into the half court offense we had plays and picks to free guy for a good shot…even the dribble drive works best when the guy makes an assist…
March 16th, 2013 at 10:14 am
Im hoping WCS comes back, but would not care if any others do or not…The ones with talent have no heart, and the ones with heart have no talent…This teams has gotten no better and thats on Cal..
March 16th, 2013 at 10:35 am
I was upset after the game last night. But after reading this shit, I’m heading for the roof. I’ll try to talk you down.
March 16th, 2013 at 11:17 am
180. How is a lack of heart on Cal? That’s something he can’t control.
March 16th, 2013 at 11:18 am
When this Kentucky team is on defence, they can’t guard a glass of water!!!!!!!!!!
March 16th, 2013 at 11:21 am
I’m going to offer a different perspective and it does include UK and any other elite program. As a collective, college basketball has a NBA problem. In the last 30 yrs, how many players coming out of the high school and jumped directly to the NBA had a “successful career”. Yeah,3 come to mind, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. The NBA is in the busiess to make money. But,at what price are they willing to sell to a kid with “potential?” They are selling a false narrative that says we will draft you, give you an opportunity to “make” a team, but your long term prospects of longevity is a big question mark. So go to college for one year and develop your skills and we will draft you even though 95% are not ready for the rigors of a professional career at 18 to 19 years of age. Yes we will pay you if you are a first round pick and for those in the second round we will give you a minimal salary. If you are fortunate to have played for the second contract, which is what sets you up for life, then you have technically passed the test. For the others, its a life of trades,D league demotion or playing overseas and worse not playing at all. Billy Hunter, the NBA players union executive president, soon-to-be outgoing NBA commissioner David Stern and NCAA head Marc Emmert need to come up with a policy that benefits both parties. This years NBA draft is one of the weakest in history. The NBA product is not what it one was years ago. The mindset was having players, that were physically and mentally ready to jump to the NBA. Now, it is all about drafting on potential(What we think you “may” develop to play for our team). So the one-and-done rule is not a college issue, it is a NBA issue. Just consider what one to three more years of college basketball may mean for a majority of players. Even though their abilities may already be apparent when they come in to college, their physcial and mental developments would only enhance their well-being. Even though earning power is the ultimate payoff for leaving early, becoming prepared for life’s up-and-downs cannot be undervalued. So as I look at Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin,Nerlens Noel and Willie Cauley-Stein, are they ready for the NBA?
March 16th, 2013 at 11:30 am
The Kentucky freshman seem to live under an aura of entitlement. Thinking they are good just because the past Kentucky freshman were.
Reminds me of a kid named Sam Libatore who played ball for Bardstown High School about 25 years ago or so. He thought he was the best. He gave very little effort. No one ever told him no. He couldn’t handle adversity. The lossess piled up, yet it wasn’t Sam’s fault. The referees at East Hardin thought differently and put an end to Sam’s crying and bitching.
Moral of the story is: Even if you are the best or have annointed yourself to be. Always, ALWAYS play like you will never get to play again.

Lance:
I suggest an English class at any of our fine institutions of higher education. Preferably,, one that focuses on grammar.
While I think Cal SHOULD offer a scholly to the kid from.Madison Central…….news flas!!!!! Those types of players aren’t bringing home #s nine, ten or eleven without a BUNCH of top 10 recruits…who actually deserve said ranking.
Yep, we should fire a coach who got to the etlite eight, final four, WON a national title and then had a crap season. I give Cal a C for a grade this season. Show me three seasons like this i. A row, then MAYBE your ridiculous idea will be worthy of some merit. Until then…….seriously.
March 16th, 2013 at 12:50 pm
This love/hate relationship with this team isn’t very healthy. I am as dissapointed in this season as the next guy. But if I put so much love and or hate into a sport as some of you guys do I would be crazy. I think some of our fans are crazy. Some of the extreem comments above prove that. This team was Cals first team at UK that didn’t gel or achieve. Personally I’m giving him a pass and I’m hoping these players come back. Worst case they are great practice players, best case they make up an awesome bench on another historical team. Either way some of you die hard fans are crazy and the things you say are just wrong.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:28 pm
I can criticize any player on this team and the team as a whole and I am still a loyal fan. If this team was winning everyone would be heaping praise on their already over inflated egos. Some of the players on this team are a product of the “every body gets a trophy” generation and in that regard are no different than most of the “kids” of their generation. So keep patting them on the back when what they need is a boot in their ass and this is the end result.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:32 pm
We haven’t earned an NCAA bid. We’ll be lucky to make it to New York. NIT BOUND with hammer down
March 16th, 2013 at 1:37 pm
Matt said last night we had three guys who can’t guard anyone. Harrow, Mays, and Wiltjer is almost true but a short list. Poythress and Goodwin are terrible on defense. Wiltjer gets the most heat for his D yet ALL of the guards get beat repeatedly.
March 16th, 2013 at 1:39 pm
A lot of whiners here. Spoiled little girls. Some of you want to fire Cal because of this season. Who do we hire-how bout bringing Billie G back. Seriously, who would you want to hire to replace Cal.Some of you are such dorks. These kids played like freshmen usually do. last yr was a bit unusual. We had no experience players this yr except at guard and he was a transfer. This team still won 20 games with inexperienced players. The biggest problem with this team is passivity. If they come back next yr, they will be playing with a more agressive freshmen group, especially the twins. Archie and Nerlens were the only 2 players who exhibited real spirit. But for the Dufus who wants to fire Cal, please drop off this site-you are a jerk and do not know anything about basketball
March 16th, 2013 at 3:50 pm
Jesus christ, harrow plays over polson because coach cal’s butthole puckers up every time polson handles the ball. Great kid, but just not good, that’s it
March 16th, 2013 at 5:58 pm
Let’s just say.. This isn’t our year. I don’t think it is helpful to personally attack any player, fan, coach, or radio show host. Just not our year! That’s all it is. Keep it simple. Keep it classy.
