Thank you, San Diego State
With Selection Sunday only three days away, we be bubble watchin’. Let’s look at last night’s games to see what helped and hurt the Cats:
GOOD FOR KENTUCKY
- Boise State lost to San Diego State in the opening round of the Mountain West tournament late last night. This puts Boise State’s Tournament chances back into question. The Broncos’ best wins are over Colorado State, UNLV, San Diego State, and a road victory at Creighton. They are 8-8 against the top 100, and have two sub-100 losses. Thank you, Aztecs.
- Norfolk State lost to Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC Quarterfinals last night, which means they’re likely NIT bound.
- Stanford lost to Arizona State in overtime in the Pac-12 Tournament last night, ending their Tournament hopes.
BAD FOR KENTUCKY
- Villanova beat St. John’s in their first game in the Big East Tournament, which further solidifies their Tournament resume. Villanova has an impressive list of big wins, including victories over Syracuse, Louisville, Marquette, Georgetown and Connecticut on the road. Why were they on the bubble to begin with? Twelve losses, including a stinker against Columbia.
- Cincinnati’s win over Providence should give the Bearcats fans some relief heading into Sunday. They take on Georgetown in the Big East quarterfinals. A loss won’t hurt them, and a win would only boost their seeding.
Now, let’s look at today’s games and who you should root for to give the Cats some more elbow room on the bubble:
WHO TO ROOT FOR

Iowa State vs. Oklahoma
Cheer for: Oklahoma
12:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Iowa State is favored by 2, and a win would all but ensure they are in the Big Dance. Go Sooners.

Baylor vs. Oklahoma State
Cheer for: Oklahoma State
9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN3
Oklahoma State is favored by 2.5. Go Travis Ford.

Mississippi State vs. Tennessee
3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN3/Local networks
Cheer for: Mississippi State
This is a long-shot, but the Vols have been rolling and continue to linger around the Tournament bubble. We should all be Bulldog fans today at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Most importantly, Go Cats.

Is that Rufio in the front row of the SD State crowd?
March 14th, 2013 at 12:02 pm
Hey – does anyone know of an on line radio station that we can pick up the sec tourny games on? Go blue!
March 14th, 2013 at 12:05 pm
As has been stated before. I don’t care what other teams do. If the Cats can’t take care of their own business they don’t belong in the big tourney. Simple as that.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:15 pm
3 – If you dont care, then don’t read the post and don’t comment…easy as that.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:17 pm
My bad, found the wrong odds. Thanks for keeping me honest.

Boise St. Lost to San Diego St. last night. This does not bode well for Kentucky….
March 14th, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Haha…those were football lines. But thanks for the post TT, I like the updates on what to watch for the day. Was just about to figure that out manually.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:24 pm
MustangCat- Actually, it bodes really well….
March 14th, 2013 at 12:39 pm
Yeah MustageCat, I don’t think you quite understand this whole Bubble thing. Boise St.’s loss dropped them to “First Four Out” in Lunardi’s update and now has Kentucky just behind LaSalle from getting off the Bubble entirely.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:40 pm
Actually the Iowa St./Oklahoma game is a no win for UK either way. Both teams are on the bubble and whoever wins, probably secures a bid. However its not a bad loss for either team that loses.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:44 pm
ANYONE know if they will sell beer at the games?
March 14th, 2013 at 12:47 pm
Response to 10: Actually, according to Lunardi, Oklahoma is a 10 seed while ISU is a 12 seed, which means ISU is probably just off the “last four in list,” meaning that if they lose and hopefully in bad fashion, they probably drop below UK, which moves us up a spot. But if Oklahoma loses, they would still be ahead of UK in all likelihood but that would simultaneously jump ISU further ahead of us. Thus, we definitely want ISU to lose if you believe Lunardi’s rankings.

#10, Isn’t Okl. State in the top 25. I’ pretty sure they are in no matter what.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:49 pm
Oklahoma is not on the bubble…they will have to win a couple in the tournament at least…we need them to win
March 14th, 2013 at 12:49 pm
sorry 10 its okl not okl state.
March 14th, 2013 at 12:52 pm
#1 – funny you mention Rufio. I met a guy on Lake Cumberland about 7 years ago, who claimed to be the guy who played Rufio.
March 14th, 2013 at 1:01 pm
So a loss by f’n Norfolk St. has an effect on the Cats tourny hopes? Man, that’s along way from a National Championship. Good thing is, next year will be a long way from rooting against Norfolk St.
March 14th, 2013 at 1:02 pm
I’d rather go to the NIT than root for UT.
March 14th, 2013 at 1:03 pm
So, I don’t have to root for UT. Good.
March 14th, 2013 at 1:04 pm
11 – No, they will not. It’s an SEC run event and no alcohol sales at SEC events.
March 14th, 2013 at 1:04 pm
12.) first off, lunardi is not even a top 10 bracketologist over the last few years (bracketmatrix.com). Iowa St is an avg. 10.89 seed vs Oklahoma 9.79 seed. the discrepancy isn’t as much as you think it is. Neither team losing is going to take them below UK at this point, so I could care less who wins or loses.
March 14th, 2013 at 1:04 pm
Why is the sec tourny not on wave 3? I have dish network and its not listed anywhere and last nights games weren’t on? Help!
March 14th, 2013 at 1:05 pm
And I’m in central ky.

Ru-fi-o! Ru-fi-o! Ru-fi-o!
March 14th, 2013 at 1:11 pm
21, this is 12. Well, that still means ISU is an entire seed below Oklahoma, which is not far off from what Lunardi has. If ISU is a 11 seed right now according to you, that means they are right there battling with UK, who is a 11-12 seed right now. Oklahoma losing does absolutely nothing to help us. But ISU losing, especially is they look bad, has a very real chance of helping us. It seems pretty clear that we would want ISU to lose.

22 Matt) I couldn’t agree more. They aren’t showing the games in Louisville. Instead WBKI for some reason or another is showing the Big12 tournament?!?! WTF?!?!
March 14th, 2013 at 1:33 pm
22) Matt
I did a little research and WAVE is showing the other games, but on 2 of their sub-digital channels. They have it on Insight. But for you, you might have to try and pull it over antenna, if you can pick it up. Not sure how far away from Louisville you live, but they are digital channels 3.2 and 3.3
March 14th, 2013 at 1:33 pm
Same way here. I’ve got the big 10, acc, big 12, and big east but can’t even watch my own damn team and they’re conference tourny! My buddy has direct tv and he can’t watch it either. I’ve watched it every yr since I was old enough to remember but now your tellin me I can’t? Bs!
