Nerlens Noel named 1st Team All-Freshman by The Sporting News

Congrats to Nerlens Noel, who has been named First Team All-Freshman by The Sporting News despite suffering a season-ending injury in mid-February:

Nerlens Noel, Kentucky

Noel is a deserving member of this team despite the gruesome knee injury that ended his outstanding freshman season on Feb. 12. In his 24 games, the 6-10 Noel averaged 4.4 blocks, 10.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game; his total of 106 blocks on the year is fifth in the country. Here’s more perspective on how much his shot-blocking ability impacted Kentucky—Noel had 60 blocks in 11 SEC contests before the injury; Ole Miss’ Marshall Henderson, the SEC’s leading scorer, made 64 field goals in his first 11 SEC contests.

Nerlens shares the honor with Marcus Smart, Oklahoma State; Shabazz Muhammad, UCLA; Ben McLemore, Kansas; and Anthony Bennett, UNLV. Smart was named TSN’s Freshman of the Year.

  6. NEWMAN Says:

Soooo, with Oklahoma State really making waves lately… when Cal retires many many years down the line, could Travis Ford be a legitimate replacement? Yes, it would depend on how well he does in the coming years, but do you think Mitch has his eye on Travis?

Or would we go with, say, Coach O? Who, btw, does not have head coaching experience.

  7. dubbness Says:

you mean when cal goes to the nba. Both Ford and and coach O would be great at UK.

  8. TrinityPills Says:

McLemore shouldn’t be eligible for these Freshman lists.
