Madison Central Wins Sweet 16 with Epic Comeback

by @ 3:16 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

@WVLK

Despite being down by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, Madison Central staged a fourth quarter comeback to win the Boys Sweet 16 in Rupp Arena this afternoon. Although Dominque Hawkins led the way for the Indians with 21 points and 10 rebounds (while UK’s Coach Orlando Antigua watched for the fourth time this week…) it was Ken-Jah Bosley with the game winning three pointer with less than five seconds to play. Bosley finished with 20 points (14 of which came in the fourth quarter), and Quan Taylor also added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Indians.

On Ballard’s side of the ball, Louisville commit Quentin Snider missed a half court heave at the buzzer for the game winner but led Ballard with 23 points. He joined Lavone Holland, Kelan Martin, Hawkins, Taylor, and Bosley on the All Tournament team.

Hawkins, the Sweet 16 MVP, scored 107 points in four games, the twelfth-highest point total of all time (h/t Kyle Tucker), and more importantly, he showed a willingness to have the ball in his hands with the game on the line. I’m guessing Coach O liked what he saw today.

Refs did everything to give Madison that game. Ballard gift wrapped the win for them.

  2. ksu Says:

    agreed #1

  3. Jock Says:

The bald ref definitely stuck it to Louisville team.the Ballard section was little compared to the whe arena full of the hicks cheering against them.

  4. bmt22033 Says:

Why is my previous comment “awaiting moderation”?

  5. Jate Says:

Ballard was up 16 in the 3rd quarter, refs had nothing to do with it. And most of those “hicks” came from the louisville area anyway. Central was clearly the better team, proud to have played ball there, Indians!

  6. PennsylvaniaWildcat Says:

    Congratulations, Indians! So proud!

  7. Shelbycat Says:

Loserville is the excuse capital of the world blah blah blah.

  8. tankercat Says:

I’m trying to figure this out #3, if you dont live in Louisville that means your a hick ? What do you you call the people from Louisville ?

  9. Breaking Bad Says:

How many meth labs blew up in central ky after that big win

  10. rj Says:

there was a lot of crying in the projects and the crack houses in loserville today.

  11. Hick From Richmond Says:

It’s good to see pitino is involving local schools in his “there’s an excuse for ever loss” life philosophy. Refs can’t give away 16 points. Stay classy l-ville. Ballard’s kids were today, but that’s too much for the pitino disciple adults.

  12. Ansel Adams Says:

Nice photograph. Really captured the moment.

  13. Crump Seed Says:

@12 NICE! Congrats to Madison Central!

  14. haha Says:

    10. There would have been a lot of crying from billy bob in his trailer while collecting his “disability” check because of his bad back. He can thank the tax payers from Louisville for that. He probably blowed up dat meth lab to celebrate.

  15. virgal Says:

What do you louiville people expect? The refs have always done things like that. Especially when they called a terrible blocking call at the end of the third quarter. They did the same thing to Male in 2001. Madison Played good but they definitely had extra help. especially when Renner gift wrapped the win for them by calling a timeout with 15 seconds left.

  16. hahaha Says:

If by Billy Bob you mean Tom Jurich, and by “disability” check you mean the Yum! Center, then you are spot on in terms of who deserves thanks from the Louisville taxpayers.

  17. rj Says:

14.I’m sorry if I left out all you little men-girls from the highlands. all your tax money goes to ballet lessons.

  18. Bright Says:

I see the Louisville people continue to complain (it’s in their nature.) As an ex-pat Richmondian, I couldn’t be happier for Madison Central and Richmond. It was hard enough for us to win the 11th Region with all of the Lexington schools, and now it’s sweet to beat a Louisville school to win the state title. For the Richmond people . . . Family Dog, Big Daddy’s, and Breck Avenue.

  19. denman1964 Says:

@jack#3…..ur a freakin diot!!!! its strange that we (MADISON CENTRAL) were complaining about the calls we were getting from the same bald ref….get a freakin life and stop calling people names ur classless!!!!

  20. Bobby Knight's Shrink Says:

Worse call (or should I say non-call) was when Charles Hurt stuck his hand up THROUGH the net and knocked out a shot by the Beal-led Holmes Bulldogs in the Championship game… a blind man could’ve seen that boo-shit !!!

  21. state ky is better off w/out thugville Says:

Congrats to the ville leading the state in heroin overdoses! By the way, you are welcome for our coal tax money footing the bill for your money pit Yum center. If all the idiots in the ville and mt washington would like a championship shirt, we have plenty for sale here in Richmond.

  22. that guy Says:

Just curious, what does the scholarship situation look like for next year. Obviously, you have to wait and see what happens with this year’s team and who decides to return (the only near sure thing being Noel gone). But, is there an available scholarship to offer the hawkins kid? Or would that be taking one reserved (hopefully) for Randle or Wiggins? Insight anyone?

  23. the Big Dog Says:

The Sweet 16 crowds and the refs hate Louisville teams and it shows in the calls. Ballard was the best team but they gave it away. Congrats to coach Allen Feldhaus on a great year.
