More UK Fans of the Day Want Updates on In-State Basketball Prospects

This isn’t the first time we’ve posted the above picture, but spring break is coming up and so is the spring football game, so it seems like a natural fit to post once again. The spring game is 34 days away. If you’re not one of the over 30,000 fans who have already reserved tickets, you can do so right here.

Moving on to a few notes from the KHSAA Sweet 16.

We’ve had plenty of coverage today on Dominique Hawkins’ 21-point, 10-rebound performance to lead Madison Central to a thrilling comeback win over Ballard in today’s State Championship. Orlando Antigua was on hand to watch the young star again, and stuck around to watch the Sweet 16 MVP presentation to Hawkins as well. Hawkins scored 107 total points in four games, the 12th-highest point total of all time (h/t Kyle Tucker), and he and his team showed a will to win once again that I am sure greatly impresses the UK staff.

But Dominique Hawkins wasn’t the only one who caught the eye of the UK staff during the Sweet 16. A source tells KSR that Orlando Antigua called the home of Holmes Sophomore guard James Bolden, talked to a family member of his, and expressed Kentucky’s interest after Bolden recorded 29 points and 13 rebounds in an overtime loss to Hawkins and Madison Central. Calipari and Antigua both were outside of the Holmes locker room following the loss in Friday’s quarterfinals and talked with Holmes head coach Jason Booher about their interest in Bolden, who has already been offered a scholarship at Xavier and drawn interest from Cincinnati and Purdue.

Dominique Hawkins stole the show at this year’s Sweet 16, but James Bolden and Holmes are likely to be in the spotlight in these next few years. Bolden (like Hawkins) has also referred to Kentucky as his “dream school”.

  1. Real Update Says:

Middle Tenn State just lost to FIU (Richard Pitino JR’s squad) in the Sunbelt tourney. Middle is still projected to make the dance. So, that is one less spot available.

  2. State champs Says:

    MADISON CENTRAL BABY!! State champs!!!

  3. Joe Says:

I would say that Middle Tennessee is now on the bubble. Their SOS before this game was 128, with an RPI of 25. But FIU had a SOS of 149 and a RPI of 125. So obviously this loss hurt.

Meanwhile, KY has a SOS of 60 and a RPI of 50. They need one win in the SEC tourney. Arkansas has a SOS of 81 and a RPI of 80, and Missouri has a SOS of 49 and a RPI of 34. Kentucky needs to play and beat Missouri. Then they will be a lock.

Just curious, what does the scholarship situation look like for next year. Obviously, you have to wait and see what happens with this year’s team and who decides to return (the only near sure thing being Noel gone). But, is there an available scholarship to offer the hawkins kid? Or would that be taking one reserved (hopefully) for Randle or Wiggins? Insight anyone?

  5. Mc Says:

    4) google kentucky recruiting blog. There’s a good link posted recently that talks about this.

  6. Bobby Knight's Shrink Says:

    Cats …get BOLDEN now…unbelievable quickness and cross-over dribble !!!

  7. BigBlueFan Says:

I do know that Bolden is a UK fan and would more or likely commit right when offered.

  8. Alan Cutler Says:

Is that commonwealth stadium sand model include the stadium renovations. I am guessing it is a model prepared the by architect firm?
