Dominique Hawkins is slowly but surely moving himself into the category of players who emerge as household names over the course of the week spent in Rupp Arena for the Sweet 16. Hawkins has put together strong performances in every single game, leading his Madison Central team to the state championship game tomorrow night in Rupp Arena. Hawkins is having the kind of week that young kids who grow up in the bluegrass dream about. Even better for Hawkins, he has been doing all of this in front of the Kentucky basketball staff (John Calipari and Orlando Antigua specifically). Calipari and company have been camped out in Rupp Arena for each of his games, clearly taking a strong interest in the Madison Central stud. For a kid who calls Kentucky his “dream school,” can you imagine a better way to cap off your high school career?
In tonight’s semi-final game, Hawkins went for 30 points and 9 rebounds to propel his team to a 60-56 win over Hopkinsville.

Some kids are just winners.
Hawkins appears to be one of those guys.
March 9th, 2013 at 9:42 pm
He really wants that scholly.
I’m glad Andrew Wiggins is at UNC to witness this Tarheel slaughtering. Although it is annoying that he visited them during a big game and us during a boring one.

Espn just showed Andrew wiggins at the north Carolina game and dick vitale was commenting on how good he was. Isn’t this a violation?
March 9th, 2013 at 9:52 pm

March 9th, 2013 at 10:01 pm
I don’t know why Central waited until midway through the third quarter to get Hawkins involved.

Hawkins is better than anyone on the UK bench. Cal needs to clean that bench from one end to the other and get someone that can help during a game we don’t need towel and gatoraide carriers!
March 9th, 2013 at 10:17 pm
INDIANS Madison Central Indians NOT and Indiana shirt
March 9th, 2013 at 10:21 pm
21) hello, that was already acknowledged. like a long time ago. Hawkins is the man and I’m glad Cal has been there.
March 9th, 2013 at 11:52 pm
Hawkins put on a show against a really athletic and good Hoptown. He is better than anyone on the bench KY has.
March 10th, 2013 at 12:14 am
No. 3, Andrew Wiggins visited 2011 Big Blue Madness (the one with Davis, Gilchrist, etc.) and he visited the 2011 Kentucky/North Carolina game where Davis saved Kentucky’s 1 point lead with his block. He’s seen the full effect of Rupp and Kentucky’s fans rockin’!!
Regarding Hawkins, I’ve heard Polson and Hood are graduating, opening up 2 more scholarships in addition to Uncle Julius and Twany Beckham leaving. There’s definitely room for Hawkins to get a scholarship. I REALLY hope he gets one. I think he would accept it in a heartbeat. I love Polson and Hood to death, but I think Willis and Hood could possibly be end up better by their upperclassman seasons. Maybe around Julius Mays/Darius Miller players.

Who’s the turd in the tired and hideous skankiana shirt?
March 10th, 2013 at 8:09 am
Or does that say Indians?
March 10th, 2013 at 9:49 am
regardless of polson and hood’s status next season (both will still be here and on scholarship) we currently have 3 open scholarships this season (10 sch. players). Beckham and Mays finish their eligibility, so there is 5. Nerlens, Poythress, Goodwin, and likely WCS all go pro which makes 8 available. There is a chance that Harrow leaves due to potential playing time next season, and I don’t see anyone else leaving. With 6 signed players it is likely we will have 2-3 open still for next season. We definitely won’t get all of the “big 3″ and it seems a bit unlikely to get 2 of them. It seems pretty likely that Cal could make it work to get this kid a scholly. I wouldn’t worry about implications for future classes either, Cal always seems to have extra room and they may as well re-name next years 1st round of the NBA draft “welcome to the NBA UK players”

I really hope Cal offers this kid. He will be better than anyone on our bench now. We could also use a good Kentucky boy that shows some pride for the state. He looks like a great asset. I hope we get him on he team.
March 10th, 2013 at 11:07 pm
Polson is coming back and will be a good relief man off the bench. Hood had his chance. No show. Harrow will have to transfer or ride pine as a 6-7 man off bench.
