Kentucky Still First Out in Lunardi’s Bracketology

by @ 10:47 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

After the Wednesday that was (losses for Georgetown and Miami as well as a handful of bubble games, which we’ll go over here soon), Joe Lunardi has released his updated bracketology, and Kentucky is unfortunately on the wrong end of the cusp as the first team out. Here’s a look at the tail end of Lunardi’s predictions:

For comparison, Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has Kentucky as a play-in game 12 seed against LaSalle.

It’s looking like the SEC Tournament’s first couple games are gaining more and more importance for tournament implications. Check back soon for a full breakdown of last night’s bubble games and how they affect the Cats’ chances. Until then, keep listening to NUMBER 9 on repeat. I know that’s what you’re doing.

CardSoHard it is obvious to me, Bill Brasky, that two things are true about you:
    1. You are obsessed with UK, more so than you Cards
    2. Like me, your uncle Hal molested you

  2. SCCat Says:

Simple equation – win tonight. win Saturday.

From there we can look around to see if there is any dust settling. let’s get this done!

  3. Brilliant Says:

    How old are you #1?

  4. Pathetic Much? Says:

Hey CardSoHard, does it make you feel like a Man to use all caps? Sorry to tell you but it just makes you more pitiful.

  5. Why?? Says:

What is our conference and conference record for if it’s not the best determinant of the comparison amongst the teams in the conference? If Lundardi has 4 SEC schools listed in a row, how can he not have them in the order they’re actually in?

  6. ajh Says:

#5 – Because that’s not what it’s about. Tennessee has better wins than UK as of right now.

  7. Fake blueballer Says:

But Tennessee has worse losses, lower in BPI, RPI, and Ken Pom than UK

  8. ajh Says:

Tennessee has wins against Witchita State, Florida, and UK by 30! Uk has beaten Missouri. Right now Tennessee > UK in my opinion. and they have a much better Strenth of Schedule.

  9. twcornuk Says:

#8. UK split with Tennesse this year.

  10. CardSoHard Says:

    NIT NIT NIT LOLLLLLLLLLL

  11. ajh Says:

I’ll leave it alone. They deserve to be in over us right now, though.

First, why does KSR insist on using Lunardi? They had an article on here no too long ago stating how Lunardi is ranked 30+ out of all of the bracketologists over the last few years. Lunardi’s projections are nothing more than “guesses.” I know he has the biggest name, but, obviously, this guy isn’t as good as several others at his chosen craft. I put zero stock into his guesses.

Second, UK has a (slightly) higher RPI than UT – UK 53 UT 56. UK also has a better record 20-9 compared to 18-11. UT does have a better SOS, but SOS is merely one part of the RPI. UK’s 30 point loss to UT certainly won’t help, but the Selection Comittee has made it known they will consider UK’s portion of the season following the loss of Nerlens Noel separate from the rest of the season and with that 30 point beat down being the first game after losing Noel UK could get a pass on such a big loss. Especially since it was on the road. If that is the case then the committee will simply see a split on the season between the two teams. I would say that if UK and UT meet in the SEC tourney for a rubber match game then that could decide who gets in before the other one. Who knows, maybe both teams make it anyway.
