Dominique Hawkins scored 25 points off 11-17 shooting in Madison Central’s win over Wayne County earlier this afternoon. Who was sitting courtside taking in all the action? John Calipari, his son Brad, Kenny Payne and Orlando Antigua. After the game, Hawkins answered questions from local reporters.
Hawkins said he didn’t realize that Cal and the staff were in the stands (his cousin, Marquis Estill said it was a possibility), but said it was an honor: “For them even to be here to watch us, it’s an honor. I hope they come again.” Hawkins told reporters he feels confident he could play at UK as a quality backup. When asked about playing with the Harrison Twins, Hawkins said it would definitely improve his game: “Even if I’m a backup I know I’d still be pushed hard in practice and get even better.”
Western Kentucky’s Ray Harper was also in stands, and has already offered Hawkins a spot. What if Kentucky, which Hawkins called a “dream school,” offered him a spot? “It would be really hard to turn down.”
Hawkins and Madison Central play the winner of Homes-PRP Friday at noon.
