From now until the conference tournaments, we’ll give you a daily rundown of who to root for in the night’s games to give Kentucky some extra help in making the Tournament. Here’s tonight’s slate:
#5 Georgetown at Villanova
7 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Cheer for: Georgetown
Villanova is one of Joe Lunardi’s “last four in,” and if they can pull of an upset over Georgetown, they’ll be likely be in the Tournament for good. If they lose (a much more likely scenario), it’ll free up some room on the bubble.
Go Hoyas.
#13 Oklahoma State at Iowa State
7 p.m. ET, ESPNU
Cheer for: Oklahoma State
Iowa State is also one of Lunardi’s “last four in” and welcomes a red-hot Oklahoma State team into town. Like Villanova, if they pull off the upset, it will give their resume a major boost and offset losses to Kansas, Kansas State and an earlier loss to the Cowboys.
Go Travis Ford.
North Carolina at Maryland
7 p.m. ET, ESPN
Cheer for: North Carolina
This one could almost be considered a toss-up, but Kentucky will benefit most from a UNC win. Maryland is right there with Kentucky, Ole Miss and Alabama in Lunardi’s first four out, and a win over UNC would give them what they need to climb the ladder.
Go Heels. (shudder)
Fordham at Temple
7 p.m. ET
Cheer for: Fordham
Temple, another “last four in,” is an eleven-point favorite over lowly Fordham, which means a loss would really burst their bubble (pun intended).
Go Rams.
Tennessee at Auburn
9 p.m. ET, CSS
Cheer for: Auburn
I’m still a little perplexed as to why Tennessee remains in Lunardi’s “last four in,” but I guess a six-game winning streak including victories over UK and Florida overshadow Saturday’s loss at Georgia. Let’s hope their road woes continue.
Go Tigers.

We gotta pull hard for those teams and then take care of business ourself. I don’t believe any of these projections are taking into account teams that aren’t tournament teams winning their conference tourney and stealing a few bids. This seems like the kind of year it may happen a few times so being the last four in may sound good now but hurt down the road.

#2 is right. If there are some upsets for conference championships then we could still end up butt hurt down the road.

Vandy beats Florida tonight, we beat Georgia tomorrow and Florida on Saturday, SEC co-champs and we leave our nets up. Can’t leave the SEC co-champs out of the tourney. We got this.

So much at stake makes these game fun to watch but I would rather be worried about getting the overall number one.

Looking at the finals coming in… Not a good night at all.
March 6th, 2013 at 9:33 pm
Iowa State and Villanova didn’t help things.

Been a good night so far. Go Vols. Cal looks to be headed back to his old stomping grounds, the NIT. He was a 4 time loser while at Memphis (pre World Wide Wes).
