Cal “bounced back” from a dental procedure earlier this week to meet with the media to preview tomorrow’s game against Georgia. Here are the highlights:
– He started by stating the obvious: his team wasn’t the best version of themselves against Arkansas. Hopefully their road woes stop tomorrow night: “I’d like to tell you we’re a pretty good road team, but the last two we’ve been abysmal. It’s because it’s been physical.”
– The key to this team remains strong guard play, which the Cats lacked against Arkansas. Kentucky also needs to be physical to knock off Georgia, which Cal says has been a struggle when on the road when the game gets close: “I don’t think we have one player who isn’t capable of being physical. But when the game gets crazy, we have guys who let go.”
– Regardless, he still believes in this team, who he says can still go out and write a “heck of a story.” While Cal can spout off all the sayings he wants, it’s ultimately up to them. He issued this ultimatum: “Where do we want the season to go? Fight like heck. Fight. Battle. Nothing else is going to work. You’ve got to want this.”
– Will that happen before the clock strikes twelve? “At some point the light’s gotta go on. And when it does, you’re going to see a team. But now we don’t have a whole lot of time.”
– Willie Cauley-Stein said that after reviewing the game tape, the team saw that Arkansas was “punking us” and they don’t want that to happen again. Jon Hood, who met with the media as well, said that two years ago, Kentucky finally put things together to make a tournament run because “Darius (Miller) started playing like a man.” Hear that, Alex?
On “The Ryan Lemond Show,” it was story time with Mike Pratt, who shared some memories of his time at UK and discussed what he thinks the Cats need to do to make the Tournament. (Hint: they have to beat Georgia.) Listen online at TalkRadio1080.com.
