Former Wildcat NBA Round-Up

The NBA is certainly a unique subject around the Commonwealth. For one, there’s an NBA caliber arena in Kentucky’s largest city and it seems as though the primary tenant wants nothing more than to keep it for themselves (but that’s an infuriating story that can be re-told another day). Secondly, a high percentage of former Kentucky players leave to fulfill their NBA dreams after a few seasons of amateur ball. While the results at the next level can be mixed, a vast majority of former Wildcats are having excellent years in the world’s premier basketball league. Since it’s difficult to keep up with nineteen active players in four different time-zones, we at KSR thought you’d enjoy seeing all of their statistics in one easy to read place.  The below table contains every player’s basic statistics alongside an efficiency metric (calculated by NBA.com) which is similar in nature to ESPN’s Player Efficiency Rating.

Notes:

-DeAndre Liggins has been recalled from the NBA D-League according to TulsaWorld.com’s Matt Clayton. Liggins, alongside Jeremy Lamb and Perry Jones III, will rejoin Oklahoma City tonight as they prepare to host the L.A. Lakers.  Liggins has played eight games in the D-League this season and 33 for the Thunder (one start).

-It’s common knowledge to most Kentucky fans by now, but Enes Kanter is on an absolute tear.  Not only did he set career highs for points and rebounds against Charlotte last Friday (23 & 22), but he followed that up with 18 & 10 against Milwaukee on Monday.

-According to USA Today, there’s some bad blood between John Wall and longtime NBA Agent, David Falk.  There had been past tension, but things boiled over Sunday when Wall drained the go-ahead shot against Philadelphia.  After the shot, Wall stared into the crowd where Falk was sitting, and naturally, that didn’t sit well with Falk.  The entire story and video can be found here.

-Tayshaun Prince has been a model of consistency this season, even after being traded to Memphis.  While his numbers have fallen slightly due to his drastically improved teammates, Prince has flourished in his new role.  The Memphis Commercial Appeal wrote a lengthy article about how Prince is shining and earning the respect of his peers without commanding the ball.

-Don’t look now, but Michael Kidd-Gilchrist finally shook his post-concussion scoring slump.  In his three most recent games, MKG is averaging 11.6 points while shooting 53% from the field.  Additionally, he has pulled down an average of 6.7 rebounds during that span.

  5. Rixter Says:

That’s Toney Douglas, but he does bear a striking resemblance to MKG

  9. not fair Says:

yeah, what I don’t understand is why the white guy is in the picture once, but then they put the black guy in there twice???

  10. Blue Jesus Says:

Is Illinois on the bubble or are they in? I’m assuming in, in which case they need to go ahead and beat Iowa dammit

  11. Smiley Pete Says:

    PG: Rondo,
    SG: Knight,
    F: MKG
    PF: Davis
    C: Cousins

That starting five could be an elite team. Add a couple years of experience and they could be title contenders.

  17. CatsCats Says:

15-I could say the same to jones, lamb, and on SOME nights MKG…

  18. crazyorwhat Says:

    THANKS FOR THE INFO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Wildboi Says:

Ill say it again…i blame this crappy year on SOME of those guys leaving early…they’re selfish…(jones, lamb, Teague, and some nights MKG). I think they were so competitive with one another that one couldn’t stay in college if the others were going pro…I mean lamb and Teague were late picks!! Even if just they had stayed they would have been lottery picks, gained a lot more experience to prepare them for the league, and likely would have taken us to another championship! Idiots!

  20. Ok Says:

They both make about a million dollars 19. 3 years would be 60 years of making 50k a year although I suspect they’ll get a second contract. Good for them both. And the crazy thing is they can still finish college if they even want or need to. Also, not so sure lamb becomes a lottery pick. Also not sure if teagues stock would get higher. I’m just glad we had them as long as we did.

  21. Blue Jesus Says:

But if they stay longer then they get the individual attention for their games they wont get in the NBA, and that attention is what will ultimately result in better second contracts. I think it’s clear some of those guys could have benefitted from a bit more time here in college. Maybe some of the guys this year will take notice.

  22. Wildboi Says:

I mean I know money talks but if they stay in college (barring they don’t get injured) there’s nothing to lose…they were full scholarship students to they payed no expense…the money would still be there when they finished this season and given the lackluster college bball season they definitely could have gotten more…especially if they were responsible for winning consecutive championships.

  23. Wildboi Says:

I honestly think they stayed cause they couldn’t live with themselves being in college while their boys were in the NBA<—-just my opinion!

  24. Are you serious? Says:

19- Did you really just say MKG some nights is selfish???

  25. Rae Says:

MKG was #2 in the draft. He wasn’t going much higher, and he has a family he cares about. Teague, on the other hand, would have been a lottery pick this year and has a brother in the NBA. He could have afforded another year.

  26. 25 is right Says:

Teague would have been a lottery pick this year and best PG in the country. Should have stayed one more.

  27. Kevin C. Says:

Who’s the white guy that looks like a gay Tom Brady ( I know, that’s redundant) ?

  28. UKNeal7 Says:

    Aldrich with the naughty face
