Desperate for some recruiting news? Of course you are, you’re a Kentucky fan. Given the ridiculousness of our 2013 recruiting class as it stands right now, it’s sort of absurd to think that it could get much better. But, with Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle, and Aaron Gordon still undecided, improving the class significantly is a very real possibility. How real? Well, according to those “in the know” apparently somewhere between pretty likely and possible.
The Herald-Leader checked in with recruiting gurus Jerry Meyer (24/7), Adam Zagoria, Jason Hickman (MaxPreps), Jeff Borzello, and Brian Snow (Scout) on the three remaining top 10 players, and the consensus was basically what we already knew: Gordon will most likely stay on the west coast, but the Cats are solidly in play for Wiggins and Randle.
However, it’s worth mentioning that when forced to choose a destination, all five pundits predict that Wiggins will end up pulling the trigger for Florida State, and only Jerry Meyer is confident that Randle will end up a Cat. Here’s what Meyer had to say on the big man:
Randle’s recruitment isn’t an easy one to get a handle on. Texas is down, Kansas runs a tight system, N.C. State probably doesn’t quite have the allure and Billy Donovan isn’t quite enough to get him to Florida. The style of play and successful pipeline to the NBA probably wins out for Kentucky.
For whatever it’s worth though, the H-L’s Ben Roberts disagrees– he thinks that Randle and Wiggins are both Lexington-bound:
It’s impossible to know what Wiggins is thinking, but here’s a guess that he’ll do the unthinkable and join UK’s already-loaded class (and Randle) in Lexington. The narrative that his parents are insisting on FSU is somewhat overblown, as is the one about his supposed aversion to the spotlight. No outcome — UK, FSU, UNC or KU — would be a surprise here, but the Cats were the favorite at the beginning and not much has changed since then.
I’m with Roberts. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned over the last few years, it’s that one should never underestimate the powers of persuasion possessed by John Vincent Calipari. Until I see them put a non-UK hat on their heads, I’m confident in our chances.

We get Randle and Wiggins. WCS and Goodwin go pr. Poy stays. Noel goes. We hang number #9 in 2014. After we hang #9, I’m pretty sure that if UK fan stabs another rival, then it should legal.

That story of wiggins not liking the spotlight is a load of crap. He posts shirtless and dunking pics of himself on twitter and has frequently said he wants the fans to show him love.

Wiggins should take a look at Shabazz Muhammad as a cautionary tale of what can happen if you dare take your talents elsewhere. Muhammad was the must get for every team last year. Cannot miss prospect. He goes to UCLA and now he is projected outside the top 5 picks. Goodwin and Poythress go to UK look terrible and still are projected top 20 picks. WCS was considered a project,not a pro prospect, now he is considered a lottery pick. Not saying Wiggins isn’t good enough to overcome his next home buy we thought no matter where Muhammad went he would still be the top one or two pick.

Sorry, I can’t bring myself to hang on every move that an 18 year old kid makes, we are fine with the class we have coming in. If they dont come, doesn’t bother me at all. #1 I do agree that Goodwin goes pro, Noel is a given, WCS i’m not sure, but I think he should stay. Poy is the guy I wonder about, lots of ability but only shows flashes, he should stay like Jones did and improve his game. I’m sure ego’s will play a big role as to what these kids are gonna do. Id hate to see WCS go to early and fade out in the NBA.

Um, no, if there has been a team out front since the beginning, it has been FSU, not UK.

Even when a player puts on someone else’s hat, there is STILL roughly a 74.3% chance he’ll become a Cat. Cal is THAT good. (Terrence Jones, anyone?)

Totally agree Andrew, “TRUST IN CAL”. Until they put a different cap on during the nationwide live teleconference, Wiggins is Kentucky bound!! He (Cal) always gets his man!!!
