Video: Kentucky’s current recruiting class

by @ 2:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

City League Hoops TV has a new YouTube video out featuring all six members of Kentucky’s current basketball recruiting class. It’s a good glimpse of what you’ll be watching in Kentucky blue next season.

I’m looking forward to an updated version of the video once Julius Randle and Andrew Wiggins announce their college decisions.

Go future Cats.

We don’t have room for both.

  2. liberal Media Says:

    Wow…just wow!!!

  3. Objectively Firm Says:

James Young may end up being the best player in UK’s class. He can do a little bit of everything and will be the player most likely to flourish in Cal’s system.

  4. Mr. Right Says:

We have all kinds of room. We have room for like 3 or 4 guys

  5. mycats Says:

    Harrisons = broken ankles!

  6. FrigFullofBeer Says:

Great, work! Those kids have a chance to do something special next year… Football question, those four Alabama players that were dismissed… I wonder if Stoops would give any of those guys a second chance?!?

  7. Jpo Says:

    1. Wrong 4. Correct

  8. Oh My Says:

I’m trying to come up with next year’s line up. You may add one or both of Wiggins and Randle. You will have Harrow and Wiltjer back for sure. also think we will get 2 from the group of Poythress, Cauley, Noel, and Goodwin. I don’t see how Cal can have a 7 – 8 man rotation. Wonder how deep he will go if this scenario plays out?

  9. I swear to god Says:

    That’s 2 PAC!!! 11 second mark

  10. josh hopkins Says:

    that was fun

  11. Chicago Says:

    Boing.

  12. Mc Says:

I don’t think any of the 4 come back, but we’ll find out. WCS getting the minutes now will likely continue a climb near the top 10 if he continues his solid play. AP and Goodwin may not start next year and the draft class for 2014 is better.
    My guesses
Harrison or Harrison or Harrison or Harrison or my guess Harrison
    Harrison Harrison Harrison Harrison Harrison
    Young Young Young Wiggins Young
    Lee Wiltjer Wiltjer Randle
    Johnson Johnson Lee Lee
Guess my point is this is a cool problem to have.

  13. Mc Says:

    Wow, that formatted nicely lol

  14. _Blackhawk_ Says:

Mc lay off the dope man it makes you dopey. :)

  15. Mc Says:

I hear you. Had it in columns. Epic fail.

  16. Hoot Says:

James Young is going to be my favorite player next year.

  17. Han Says:

So if Randle decides Coach Cal and UK are what’s best for him, and if Wiggins decides to challenge himself by practicing against, what, 6-8 other NBA players, Cal takes both, right?

You can’t stop recruiting Wiggins if Randle commits, because you’d love to have both. Assuming Harrow and Wiltjer return, we would have an amazing 9 player rotation with Polson, Hood, Willis behind. Still one free schollie (unless Cal holds it or gives it to Polson) for one of our 4 frosh to come back. So if Noel wants to rehab in Lexington with friends and familiar facilities, he could come back. Or Willie could come back to compete against Lee and Johnson and make himself better. Ditto with Archie and Alex coming back to compete, but all 3 risk needing to stay 3 years.

Watching video, I really hope Wiggins and Randle join this one-of-a-kind recruiting class. If they do, we could have the greatest team ever (single year).

    1) You take both Randle and Wiggins if you can get them. You’d have a packed bench, but practices and substitutions would be insane. You really could have 8 guys getting 20+ minutes, going all out the whole time. We have room if 3 of our 4 frosh leave and Polson goes to walkon. That’s assuming Harrow, Wiltjer, and Hood all return (no one leaves early or transfers).

    8) Harrow comes back right now, I think. But if he becomes a monster in the SEC and NCAA tourney, he could work his way into the draft and avoid having to sit the bench next year.

  18. OleSeven Says:

    It’s curtains

  19. I Say Says:

Harrow’s best friend is always playing ball in the Johnson center, everyone calls him batman (I know), he said that regardless of where harrow is projected to go in the draft that he is for sure going. I couldn’t make this up.

  20. Han Says:

Correction: If Polson went back to walkon (he’s preferred, so he can), we can fit Randle, Wiggins, Hood, Harrow, Wiltjer, the 6 commits, and 2 of Goodwin/Poythress/WCS/Noel. It won’t happen, but that would be 13 schollies.

  21. Han Says:

    19) He had to ride the pine last year as a transfer, and next year he’d be competing with a 6’5″ PG who already has natural chemistry with at least one other player. (Twins have magic abilities to find each other if UAB years ago was any sign.) He’d be best off going, but if he doesn’t continue to play well, he may not be drafted at all. But if he didn’t get a lot better from practicing against Teague and Lamb last year, and starting this year, next year probably wouldn’t help much.

  22. fanaticat Says:

If he stays, Goodwin will start next year and be damn good.

  23. Sir Brandon Says:

This warmeth my heart. Thanks, Drew.

  24. Maxbps8 Says:

They shoulda included a clip of Marcus Lee crushing a volleyball and capping someone. Marcus is already my favorite player on next year’s team. He has some huge shoes to fill in a long line of unsung Kat-hereos: Wayne Burner-Turner, Ravi Moss, Darius Miller, and now Julius.

  25. JeffCat Says:

People are forgetting that Hood is a 4th year guy set to graduate. Why is it 100% that he comes back as a player? No one mentions this. He may elect to graduate and just leave. Or that he could forgo that final year of eligibility and be a graduate assistant. I’m hoping as a KY boy he can stay for another run at the title, but I am aware that he may choose something else.

  26. bluesman Says:

Jon Hood could graduate this Spring He’s not getting mins this year surely none next year. Cal will find the way for Randle and Wiggins both if they want to come.

  27. 2live Crew Says:

Andrew Harrison and James Young are as “Nasty as They Wanna Be”

  28. UK Fan #5 Says:

Archie Goodwin probably wouldnt start next year, Aaron is bigger, stays under control and is a better shooter. All in all is Randle and Wiggins come next year UK will be an offensive juggernaut. Harrisons, Wiggins, Randle, Young, WIltjer, and even Johnson are all capable of dropping 25+ any given night.

  29. rj Says:

the only draft harrow going in is if someone opens the door on a really windy night.

  30. spelling teachet Says:

Hope we are not mis spelling derek Willis name as Jon hood,???

  31. KD Says:

There is “room at the inn”. Last night’s halftime ceremony honoring the ’95-’96 CATS was quite possibly a look into the future as much as it was a tribute to the past. Those of you who think Cal would not play an 8,9 or even 10 man rotation may be in for a (pleasant) surprise. One of the reasons Cal has rarely played more than 7 guys regularly is that he has not had the level of talent across the roster that he will have next year, whether any of the current freshmen and Ryan Harrow return or not.
The notion that current players would not play or see limited action next year is ludicrous. Starting is not all it’s cracked up to be—see ’95-’96 CATS National Champions. If they go to the NBA, it will be quite awhile before they start in the NBA (except possibly Nerlens) ” I better declare for the draft and play against 22-35 year old men, because I’m sure as hell not going to be able to play here against a bunch of 18 year olds. ” Playing time on next year’s team will hopefully be earned rather than “anointed”. We could be witnessing a change of perspective where kids become comfortable with the idea of spending(investing) 2 or 3 or even 4 years in college and just enjoy being kids.
