There’s Still Time to See Andrew Wiggins

by @ 9:00 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

It’s almost March, which means that, for better or worse, it’s almost time for basketball season to be wrapping up.  While college ball will go into April, high school ball is going to be ending much sooner.  Which means one thing: we’re running out of chances to see Andrew Wiggins play ball before his decision in April.

But thankfully, “running out” means there are still some opportunities left.  While he doesn’t have any more games in Kentucky (Huntington Prep’s game in Louisville was canceled), there are still at least two home games that are make-able for folks in, or east of Lexington.

This Thursday, 2/28, Wiggins plays an away game at Teays Valley Christian, which is just west of Charleston, WV, right off I-64.  I’ve not been inside TVC, but I’ve seen it from the outside, and based on the location, I just can’t imagine they have the talent to keep up with Wiggins and company.   I could be wrong, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he could take them on himself.  Should be a fun game to watch.  Teays Valley is a little over two hours from Lexington, and there’s a Sheetz.  So it’s totally worth it.

If you have plans Thursday, then next Tuesday, 3/5, you’ll have another shot, as Huntington Prep plays at home against Spire Institute at 7 pm.  Huntington is both bigger and closer than Teays Valley, and there’s a Fat Patty’s to eat at, which is almost worth the trip all by itself.  If you live close to an interstate exit in Lexington, you can make it to Huntington in an hour and a half, so you could leave after work at 5 and still make it in time for the game.  And also Fat Patty’s.  Did I mention that already?

Wiggins’ team is also scheduled to play at home March 9th, but that happens to be the day that Wiggins is taking an official visit to North Carolina, so it’s doubtful that he’ll be playing in that game.  You can see more about his schedule on his team page.

There’s been a lot of talk about Wiggins being a “shy” kid that doesn’t enjoy a ton of attention, but even if it’s true that doesn’t mean you can’t go and watch him play.  Just leave your Alan Cutler fathead at home, and only ask for autographs for your immediate family.  Or just use your best discretion and keep it in check.

Wiggins will decide in April, and according to SNY.tv, it’s still very much up in the air.

“I haven’t found it yet, so I am just waiting for that moment that will convince me it’s the right place.”

Anyone else notice the stacked math teacher in gray? She’d make me leap Algebra II for Algebra third base

  6. King Nate Says:

Fat Patty’s is awful. the guy that runs it hates UK and will not put up a Patrick Patterson jersey in the restaurant. No UK fan should spend their money there.
There is even a FB page associated to his hatred of UK

I got to see him play ust this last week when they played at Tolisa High School in Fort Gay,WV. I wore my UK blue, but didn’t approach him for an autograph becase of his reported shyness. I wanted him to know that BigBlue Nation was present and very much interested in him, but no pressure!! I left at half time with Huntington Prep leading WVU Parkersburg by a score of 47-18. Looking at the two teams, you would have been confused as to which team was a high school team and which was a college team. Huntington Prep had major size on WVU Pakersburg. Jumping center was 6-10 for Prep agains a dude that looked maybe 6-5, 6-6. Anyway, Wiggins was very impressive and we should be very excited about the possibility of seeing him in UK Blue. I know that is only stating the obvious, but…

If a Sheetz is your idea of fine dining, then I now completely understand the general quality and creativeness of your posts.

    #2,you are right….not worth a speeding ticket!

  14. Steve Says:

I coach a team that played Teays Valley. The gym is small so don’t expect to get a seat. HP will probably win by 50 or 60.
Teays Valley only has one guy with size and he’s 6’6 and skinny. Should be a lot of good dunks though.

  15. Tom Blevins Says:

The last time I wanted a player to come to Kentucky as badly as I want Wiggens too, it was John Wall. I believe Wiggens is better than John Wall. I would also like for us to sign Julius Randel as that would make us much more physical next year than this year. Although with Dakari Johnson comming in, that alone should improve us in that area.

  16. Mark Says:

There is also a Fat Patty’s in Teays Valley.

  17. CATFANLARY Says:

Reports in North Carolina is he is a lock for the Tarheels. That was reported on a local sports program today as a fact guaranteed(?). Matt you need to call them, Joe and Adam on 99.9 The Fan 3-7 daily it is rough to listen to but about the only option for a local show.
