[Moderated by Matt Jones, Drew Franklin and Tyler Thompson]

It appears the Houston Rockets are already giving up on Terrence Jones, just halfway through his rookie season. With a roster full of power forwards, Houston needs to get rid of Jones or Donatas Motiejunas, and management believes Montiejunas has more potential in the Rockets’ system. Jones hasn’t been able to climb his way up from fourth on the depth chart as he’s been shipped back and forth from the D-League.
Houston is shopping the former Wildcat around for a pick in this year’s NBA draft. Let’s hope he ends up with a team that will provide him a better opportunity to contribute.
The trade deadline is tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.

Hopefully TJ is taking everything in a professional manner and learning and growing, because if he lands with the right team and coach he can be a very good player in the league for a long time. Good luck, Terrence.

I’m over 50 and have sung along to InSync and BB. I love this show but you guys can be a little ageist and sexist. Sometimes hear how you sound.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:53 am
Shocking. The Rockets are thinking about trading a power forward. Didn’t see that curve ball coming…
2- Do you like to party?
February 20th, 2013 at 10:54 am
There are plenty of players who would have had long careers given the right opportunity. Instead, they languished at 4th in depth charts and D-league assignments. This is a good thing for Terrance.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:54 am
Really hope Terrence,Teague and Lamb do well but they should have never left for the NBA last yr. GO CATS!!!
February 20th, 2013 at 10:56 am
3… Only if it’s a party in your pants!
February 20th, 2013 at 10:56 am
Let’s hope he goes to the Spurs.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:57 am
SNH, you are one sick puppy. LMAF.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:57 am
6- hahahah
February 20th, 2013 at 10:58 am
Send him to the Wizards and let him grow along with Beal and Wall. If Jones develops to his full potential that would be a dangerous young group to build around.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:58 am
5, Exactly. I hope some of the guys at UK see what’s going on with those three, and decide to stay in college at least another year.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:58 am
5) In retrospect, given how weak this year’s draft is looking, yes, it may have been better for some or all of them to come back. We certainly could have used Teague at PG, Jones at PF, and Lamb at SG, but Lamb and Jones had already stayed longer than they might have originally planned, and Teague wanted to move on like Wall, Bledsoe, and Knight before him.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:01 am
Only if Tim Couch would have been drafted by some other team besides the Browns. He would still be playing today with a super bowl ring or two.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:10 am
Send him to the wizards with wall beal jones nene okafor and possibly a lottery pick this year they be pretty solid and they could then sell there tickets for more than 3$$
February 20th, 2013 at 11:11 am
Houston is bending over backwards for Royce White. Maybe Terrence should request a private bus and all that…
February 20th, 2013 at 11:12 am
Unless you’re an elite talent, where a player plays and the opportunity he’s given is more important than overall ability.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:13 am
Kings with Boogie, he’d be going home, or Charlotte with Gilchrist.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:19 am
15 – the fact they’ll bend over for Royce White but not TJ should give you an idea that maybe TJ’s AWFUL attitude is still present.
Alex Poythress – I hope you’re watching this….you’re only a year away from the D-League and/or being shopped for draft picks. With that said…..please leave early, Alex…..please.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:20 am
Jones would be #1 overall in this weak ass draft. I hope he somehow finds his way to Boston.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:23 am
12) I’m just glad Ryan Harrow has broken the cycle so now future point guards might actually stay another year.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:34 am
Jones needs to find a better fit… He is a great example of guys that could go either way upon entering the league. People don’t realize how much the team that drafts you can determine your future. Unless you are truly special, if you don’t find the right team, you could be out of the league after your first contract.
Golden State, Charlotte, Philly, Phoenix, and Atlanta (after they deal Josh Smith) seem to be the best fits for Jones to grow as a player.
It is going to be a lot better for him to get dealt now while he is guaranteed several more years of teams investing time to develop him. If you haven’t established yourself after that first contract, it is really tough.
Alex Poythress screams to me as being the type of player that would have a tough time establishing himself within that first NBA contract. Go look at NBA small forwards and find someone that Alex would be better than anytime soon. Statistically speaking (looking at PER), Darius Miller is about as bad as it gets at the NBA Small Forward position among players that are getting some minutes. Alex is better than Darius was as a freshman, but he has a long way to go to get to Darius level as an all around player. Will a team wait 3 years on him? I doubt it. I wish him well if he decides to go, but I am not optimistic about his long term prospects if that is the decision he makes for himself. I think Archie and Willie have a little better chance than him, but they could have the same problem if they don’t find the right situation.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:35 am
He would be a great Fit for Dallas ,they would of drafted him if Huston failed to drafted him, anyway. They could get a young, and great energy defender , at a really cheep price , although The bet fit for Jones, would be the Orlando Magic.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:36 am
I only wish that you could deliver your sentiments about Poythress to him in person #18. I’m sure you would, right?
February 20th, 2013 at 11:40 am
If everyone would listen to me the world would be a better place.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:43 am
how nice would it be right now to still have him, lamb, and teague, three guys who really haven’t got much of a chance to contribute to their teams this season, we’d be top 5 i can tell ya that, man they shoulda stayed
February 20th, 2013 at 11:45 am
It’s more than getting players drafted ASAP so they can start drawing a paycheck. It’s about preparing them so they can benefit from a long and lucrative pro career. If you’re 1 and done but flame out after your initial contract, what has really been accomplished? Tashaun Prince stayed 4 years, I beleive, and was ready when he got drafted. He has been in the league over 10 years, has an NBA title, an Olympic Gold medal, and has made tens of millions of dollars. Something to think about.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:51 am
The other side of the coin is that if you are not the real deal, go get some money now before GM’s figure it out. See Orton, Daniel.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:56 am
don’t care who TJ plays for, he’s got limited skills. Not a greater shooter, looked very goofy when dribbling up the court. Got by on stength and athletic ability.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:58 am
You all saying Terrence still has an awful attitude and basically sucks you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what you are talking about! Terrence is a victim of horrible management, Houston tried to land forwards and trade them to get Howard and it backfired. They got stuck with all these Forwards…the reason they are shopping TJ is cuz no team is going to take the chance with Royce White and his anxiety and they gave up too much to get Montejunas to just give him away. They Think they can get more for TJ. If Terrence was playing for any other NBA team he would be getting solid playing time.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:59 am
28 – Jodie Meeks thinks otherwise… have you seen him when he has gotten extended minutes in the NBA? obviously not…
February 20th, 2013 at 12:00 pm
maybe he should have stayed along with teague and lamb none of these guys are doing anything in the NBA
February 20th, 2013 at 12:09 pm
Probably because they can’t get ayhing for Royce White?!!
February 20th, 2013 at 12:10 pm
32- no one wants to deal with his anxiety problems…
February 20th, 2013 at 12:12 pm
This has nothing to do with Royce White. Royce White has no value or else he would already be traded. This mean the Rockets are trying to acquire a 1st round pick, inorder to then trade that pick in a deal for Dwight Howard, or some other big time player.
February 20th, 2013 at 12:14 pm
Tons of houston fans have been pushing for tj to be starting over patterson or 1st off the bench…
February 20th, 2013 at 12:20 pm
at 23….I’d be happy to tell Alex in person that I think he has done his “time” in college (he treats every game like he’s in jail and being forced to play) and should go to the NBA. I’m sure that Alex would respond to me the same way he responds to Cal….roll his eyes, slink away, and then pout for 15 minutes. Or maybe it would motivate him? And he would make one huge play, get proud of himself, and then wait until the second half to do anything else. Or maybe, he’d just foul out because he can’t handle all of the attention. So: pouting, inconsistency, shying away from the spotlight. That’s a 3-tool D-league player if I’ve ever heard of one.
February 20th, 2013 at 12:29 pm
Would love to see TJ with the Wizards and all that young talent.
February 20th, 2013 at 12:32 pm
Great to see so many people that don’t follow the NBA weighing in on this. No way are the Wizards taking TJ….they just got done clearing out head cases (JaVale McGee), they’re not about to ruin a good thing by bringing another malcontent.
February 20th, 2013 at 12:37 pm
Can’t say I’m surprised. He wasn’t ready to go pro.
February 20th, 2013 at 12:52 pm
Love how everyone is on here doggin TJ when he was the guy that got shit straight and played like a monster in the NCAA tournament…
February 20th, 2013 at 12:58 pm
I think evaluation is an interesting process. From HS to college, the five star guys from this year….performance would indicate that they are overrated but most (all) high school stars aren’t asked to carrying the load their freshman year of college. Are Alex and Goodwin overrated? Are they in a situation where they aren’t good enough to carry the load this early?
How many freshman really are? Davis? Cousins? Wall? These guys are future NBA All-Stars. Alex and Goodwin aren’t. Maybe they were overhyped/overrated.
As a fan base, we should be more patient and more forgiving….but you can’t hide at Kentucky.
February 20th, 2013 at 2:59 pm
They should ship the GM that wasted two picks on power forwards when they alreay had about 8 on their team.
February 20th, 2013 at 3:05 pm
#13 – That’s hilarious.
I agree with #28. The dude isn’t that talented. He was a man when he wanted to be in college, but that sh!t don’t work in the league where everyone is.
February 20th, 2013 at 5:47 pm
Isn’t he a selfish motherfuc*er?
February 20th, 2013 at 7:18 pm
Last I heard, TJ signed a 2-year deal worth 2.5 million. I don’t think it matters if he’s playing in the D-League — dude still making bank. #4′s got it right. Good luck, 2012 National Champion Terrence Jones.
February 20th, 2013 at 8:08 pm
Terrance Jones never has and never will have the mental toughness to play at the next level. Have fun in the D-League. But at least he’s paid….props to his agent….Go CATS
