Scout.com updated its 2013 class rankings this morning and Coach Cal’s bunch is sitting comfortably at the top spot with the greatest class ever assembled.
Yeah, Fab Five, I said it.
Evan Daniels writes:
The Wildcats have another No. 1 recruiting class. The Harrison twins will give them arguably the best backcourt in the country next year, plus they have a top 10 wing — Young — and two top 25 big men in Johnson and Lee.
Duke, Kansas, Memphis, and Indiana round out the top five, just ahead of Florida and Louisville, respectively.
In other recruiting news, Dakari Johnson is a 7-footer:
Measured in at 7 foot officially yes lol

Kentucky is going to be good next year.

Anyone not going to Gameday this weekend or skipping the SEC tourney, don’t bother coming back next year when we’re a one seed. I’m with Calipari 100% through good times and the bad

Especially if Nerlens comes back too, just cancel the season and mail us the trophy.

I hope they prove out to be the best class ever – but until proven otherwise that title has to reside with Michigan’s Fab Five.

This year we are going to watch the re-run of the games to No. 8, and next year these guys are going to bring us No. 9. Go Cats

And Leon’s getting laaaarger.

#3, this is still the best RECRUITING class.
February 19th, 2013 at 11:46 am
Listening to the radio at work and Matt just compared UofL fans to a crazy guy screaming at a tree! Hilarious!

3. They never won a title. Get off their jock. Most famous for baggy shorts, not rings.
February 19th, 2013 at 11:52 am
Agree with #1 – stand by our coach and team through the good times and bad. Coach Cal deserves our loyalty and support in a down year. With that said, can’t wait until next year!

6 – Chris Webber was the #1-ranked recruit, Juwan Howard was #3, Jalen Rose was #6, Jimmy King was #9 and Ray Jackson was #84. ESPN has our guys at 5,6,7,11 and 18. I guess if you look at Jackson at 84 vs. our #5 guy at 18 you can say that our class is better, but those Michigan rankings are pretty strong.
February 19th, 2013 at 12:06 pm
8 – Those five got to two straight championship games. Our class hasn’t won any titles either….yet.

11. So did Butler in 2010 and 2011, but you don’t see anyone praising their recruiting classes. Recruiting means nothing unless you win the ring.

Our current #1 recruiting class (may?) be the exception to the rule but if this year has taught us anything in the new area of one and done recruiting is their ranking is no indication of what is it that motivates them or what’s in there “make up”. Are they willing to work harder than they ever have, are they willing to listen to direction given to them by coaching staff, do they want it bad enough to play through difficulties and setbacks and can they play together? Remember Wiggins answer to being asked what he would like people to know about him that they may not. His answer; “I’m only 17.” Without mature players playing significant rolls playing significant minutes we will likely always be a team made up of 17/18 year old young men. The NBA drafts on potential displayed at the college level. Universities recruit based on potential demonstrated at the high school level. Potential inherently suggests something yet to be fully realized. Both are environments never before experienced by these young men thus requiring a tremendous adjustment. Some catch on quickly, others take more time, and some never adjust. Don’t get me wrong I am very happy Cal is such a prolific recruiter. It’s just that with a revolving door we will always be dealing with potential and guys that are “only 17”. With this approach, having the right balance of veteran payers along with No. 1 recruits will take place only every three or four years. Being serious contenders for the national championship every three to four years may mean enduring a year like this every other year.

#1 – Oh great, another internet tough guy. So, you and who’s army is gonna keep us away next year. Just because some of us see going to the SEC tournament as a bad investment (because of the TEAMS play) doesn’t mean we aren’t fans any more and aren’t going to cheer like crazy for them on tv. I guess you have football season tickets and have attended every game since The Bear left, right? Pipe down and go break down more tape of the ut game.

Thank you 14

3-Last years UK class is the greatest ever. Not the Fab 5.
February 19th, 2013 at 1:02 pm
Don’t see the fascination with the Fab Five. They definitely weren’t better than last year’s squad. From what I have seen of these kids coming in…They Have It. It being work ethic, attitude, swag, and a overwhelming desire to not be outdone. Can’t wait to see them in Rupp. That being said “I still like my team”

Why was my comment removed?
February 19th, 2013 at 1:25 pm
1)So if we don’t go to gameday or the SEC tourny then we aren’t really fans? Lets see, there is probably a million fans in the state of Ky alone, it may get a little crowded.
February 19th, 2013 at 1:30 pm
20. I thought I was overlooking something. LOL. Type it again, must have been a mistake. KSR has given me errors in the comments section for the last couple of days.

Will Willis be asked to walk on if several current players comeback or are there enough schollys for everyone?
February 19th, 2013 at 1:34 pm
18- Last years class was only 3 freshman? Team as a whole was better but not all of em were freshman.
February 19th, 2013 at 1:50 pm
Dakari Johnson is not even close to being a 7 footer. He may have offically measured at 7 feet with 3 inch shoes on, otherwise…nah.
February 19th, 2013 at 1:52 pm
#25…So your calling the kid a liar? It was his tweet
February 19th, 2013 at 1:55 pm
24. Four freshmen on last years team. Those guys won a title. Recruiting isn’t about quantity, it’s about quality. I don’t remember the Fab Five because they went to two consecutive championship games. I remember them because they choked in those games.
February 19th, 2013 at 4:12 pm
24. Four freshman there, buddy. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marquis Teague, Kyle Wiltjer, & Anthony Davis. All 5 stars per Rivals

Thank you 14! Some think it’s their reason in life to tell who is a fan and who isn’t! Probably some kid still living on mom and Dad’s dime!
In the real world things don’t work that way. I would love to go to EVERY game but seeing how I have a job and live 3 hours from Lexington can’t exactly make every game.
