Cal, you have been both a great coach and recruiter in the past but you SUCK at both this year. You recruited 3 duds in Poythress, Goodwin, and Harrow. You have not coached them up one iota since beginning of year. We are the worst passing team in America. We now have no offense, no defense and no chance. We are turnover city. This is the worst performance of a UK team I have ever seen. This team is a total EMBARASSMENT for the BBN.

Unreal…understand the loss of Noel but damn, to walk in here and get your ass handed to you by a very, very bad team is just not what I expected at all. Sure thought the guys would step up and find something within them to play and win.
The weaknesses of this team will be on display every game…Noel hid more than I thought they had.

First time in a very long time Cal has not had a stud point guard, that makes his system work. That will be taken care of next year and we will be back on top of the mountain. Just going to have to suffer through this year.

All I can say is WOW……. Did any one come to play? No Hart nor guts! The jump ball was a error for sure and they get a 3 out of it. Not sure why Cal didn’t question that harder before the play.Maybe they have a LSU come back in them

I am a DIE hard UK fan. Always have been, always will be, BUT, as I said the night we lost Nerlens, I didn’t think I could watch this team the rest of the season just for my own mental health. It’s a test in frustration tolerance, and I failed.
Any NBA scout who thinks this team without Nerlens has ANY player worthy of going in the NBA draft out to taken out back and beaten. There is NO NBA talent on this roster beyond Nerlens. I am going to turn on the golf tournament. I can’t stand to see this team get its butt kicked AND to watch it beat itself.

I am a UK fan, have been for 65 years, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t face the truth, there is not a single good div. 1 player on the floor for KY. Anybody that thinks there are three first round picks on the floor, is seeing something I haven’t seen all year. Cauley-Stein has great potential, but he is so far away. He has not been in rebound position whole game, he is swatting at ball like its a fly, and he is getting pushed all over the floor. Goodwin won’t take a good shot. Wiltjer wilted the first time someone smacked him, Poythress, is lost.

Oh, and by the way, if this performance doesn’t solidify Nerlens as the #1 player in the draft, then the NBA scouts are even dumber than I imagined. Nerlens CARRIED this team on BOTH ends, and COMPLETELY covered up the total deficiencies of Harrow, Goodwin, Poythress and Wiltjer. I would bench all four of those guys for the entire game.

I wouldn’t endure another team like this for a championship. God I hope next season is as good as advertised. Can we please show the majority of these players the exit? I don’t want their bad habits to rub off on the next group coming in. I can honestly see no benefit for some to return. Sorry, I bleed blue but this is embarrassing. Our offense resembles a grade school team. Ball movement and team defense are the worst I’ve seen. This team vs BCG’s would be a barn burner!!!

We have been spoiled over the past three years by the players. They had enuf talent, heart and desire to win that Cal’s approach of “rolling the bal out” worked well in the past. But this is a different group and there appears to be no coaching or development. Bench the players that don’t play and send a message. Lose by 20 w the same under performers or 30 sending a message. A loss is a loss.

True UK fans also are not blind. If you’re okay with this kind of performance then you probably believe this is due to players not buying in. Cal is just trying to be politically correct against saying they suck. Players first program. Would should just all agree to take it for what it is…a horribly down year. im very frustrated at the effort and way we play. but im still not going to sink to the level of “worst team to ever where the jersey” or “they dont deserve to wear the blue”. I dont think the worst team in UK history would have kept pace with duke or UofL. Its just disgusting when grown men then start to publicly call out the 19 year old kids on this team.

Win or lose I support my cats/kittens. You have to take the bad with the good. This Is a young team, give them a break. Before Calipari, freshmen were not expected to do much but know we expect them to play like junior/seniors? We are not going to dominate every year. We won the championship last year so relax and support this young team. Caulie, Archie, Alex will be much better next year and they will all be playing in the NBA one day. Go Cats.

This could be one of the most embarassing losses ever. No way a program like Kentucky should have such a shallow bench that the loss of one player completely disorients a team like it has.
This all falls on Calipari and his lack of ability to recruit/develop a bench. Cal lives by a feast or famine philosophy.
And for those of you suggesting that we’re going to be 40-0 next year and hanging a banner – I remind you than your placing your hopes of 18-year-old kids who will be coming to Lexington with the same hype and hoopla as Goodwin and Poythress.
Another question – Does Cal actually spend time scouting and getting to know these recruits? Or does he simply subscribe to the scouting services and start to drool when he sees five-stars next to a name? If he had spent time actually scouting kids like Goodwin- taking time to getting to know them – maybe the hoggish, selfish personality on display would have been detected.
Cal must understand that you’re not just recruiting accolades – but actual people and it’s required that the coach know the personality he’s recruiting.
The end of this season could get ugly.

Is anyone seriously surprised by this? The only positive all year was Noel. He opened things up for anything positive that happened on the offensive side of the ball just by his mere presence and we all know he was our only defense AT ALL. This was a barely average team with him. I do not see another game we will win. They are not good basketball players,yet. Of course when you jump up and down declaring you are a players first program, as though every program in the history of the world loathed their student athletes, did nothing but use and abuse them and sustained them on nothing but bread and water, this is what can happen every couple of years. You have set up a scenario where you are literally drafting the replacements of 3 or 4 of your starting five even before the newest classes arrives. There is no pretense that they might stay. He needs to get a couple of 4 star guys who will be role guys who will play 3 or 4 yrs. This was a difficult team to watch even with Noel, but it was understandable. These guys were not the freshmen we have had since he got here. Again that is fine because it is what it is, but watching at least four guys who are in the NBA who should still be here is ridiculous and painful. Cousins was not emotionally ready to play in the NBA. Not only that he loved being on campus and being a kid. Minimum 3 years at UK were necessary for him to develop, but Cal pushed him out the door. Cousins said this himself. Teague, I honestly do not know what the hell he was thinking. Lamb and TJ should have comeback as well.

I commented last year and before that I didn’t like Cal’s approach to recruiting. No team wins w just freshman. There has to be a mix of solid 3 year players recruited as well. Next year will not be last year as there won’t be a lamb or jones or miller to compliment the team. So all of next years recruits come, they play, they leave for the nba. Then Another repeat year like this.

Goodwin has to be one of the worst finishers ever. I would love to see the stats on how many layups he has missed this year. He’s great at getting to the rim, but he cannot put it in the whole. Only guy I’ve ever seen who shoots less than 50% on layups.

I’m all about getting some 2-4 year players but let’s also not start confusing this years class with next years class.
If you just add Andrew Harrison to this team it would be much better because we simply lack any kind of PG play .
Our centers are big but have zero offense. Dakari has a skilled offensive game.
Poythress is talented but no motor. Marcus Lee has an incredible motor.
Goodwin hates passing and can’t shoot. Young and Harrison can both shoot and rebound and Harrison is much less selfish

I love the Wildcats but this team was doomed from the start. We never really got into a rhythm for the season with Harrows absence and forcing Archie to change its identity, now we were getting it together and Noel goes down… People can say what you want but Marquis Teague was a real good point guard and that’s something we don’t have. I believe Cal really made a mistake by not recruiting another point guard, Ryan Harrow was never good enough to lead this team, there was a reason he didn’t start at NC State, there is also a reason Cal didnt recruit him initially and we got Brandon Knight. Everything is a struggle for our team, a point guard puts people where they need to be in order for them to be successful. I hope he transfers. Next year will be better with Andrew Harrison (polson coming off the bench). none of the freshman should leave because they all need another year of college. I haven’t given up on this season, but I have never seen the network switch games because we were getting beat so bad.

I agree with #258 and #267 I think Cal is a great coach but great coaches can have bad years and Cal has failed miserably this year..We were ranked # 3 preseason…Also ive never seen so many players get better then totally takes huge strides backwards, im no expert but i got to think coaching or motivating are big reasons for those 3 or 4 players falloffs…Im behind Cal just hoping that the One and Done didnt work the 1st 3 years cause we had senior leadership each year left over from Billy G.. P.Patterson(junior)but he had Ramon Harris and Perry Stevenson also Then we had Jorts and Liggens and last year Daruis.. I love how ppl on here wont blame Cal for anything even though this team is aweful but tons of ppl on here and live blog blame the refs entirely for a 40 point blow out..

Our “NBA level talent” was COMBINED 5 of 17 with 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 13 fouls. TO stats aren’t available yet

That was possibly the worst game I have ever seen UK play, and I have been watching since the early 1970s. Cal is not motivating these kids. They look beaten and they never have fun. Cal needs a new approach to reach Poythress and Goodwin. These are two major talents that just look lost.

Alex, Archie, Kyle, and Willie will benefit from having a top notch point guard… We haven’t seen how good they can be and that’s why I’m disappointed. If you look at the first episode of All Access Kentucky you will see Cal ask the asst coaches, “do we need to prepare Archie to run the point?” That question was never asked last year because even though Teague made mistakes, he was a bulldog that didn’t quit….. Note to Cal, stick to getting the #1 PG every year, no more transfers….

319 – What makes you think they are major talents? Goodwin flat out can’t shoot, and Poythress doesn’t want to work. No NBA team can fix either of those problems.

313 Cal hasn’t done his best coaching job this year I agree. But this crowd of he cant coach or recruit people are morons. Also if you cant see that the officiating this season has been horrid across the board then there is no help for you.

The same people crying about Cal not recruiting 2-3 yr guys are at the same time bitching about how bad this team is. Hilarious. If you can’t see the true idiocy of that I don’t know what to tell you. This team will have everyone back including perhaps Nerlens. National titles have bad effects too. Teague, MKG, and maybe even Lamb would be back if they went to the NIT last year, but they won the title- boo-friggin-hoo.

Terrance Jones is playing in the NBDL all star game right now on NBA TV, good luck Alex and Archie on being an NBDL all star next year but I don’t think they would even start in the D-League.

The last few years Cal’s had a few older guys to help the young ones…..this year he hasn’t…..My money will be that a year like this one will never happen again under Cal. For a game like this to happen again is an once a lifetime experience….UT cherrish it!

To the trolls asking for Cal’s job–not going to happen morons. It shouldn’t happen and it won’t. But this team has no physical presence to it. It has aggression but it lacks the experience to know how and when to use it. It is a typical freshman team that just lost its heart and soul playing on the road vs a physical opponent that smelled blood. They will get better–probably not enough to make the NCAA’s–but the team played hard today (minus one kid I won’t call out). We will be back.

Is the so-called live blog monitored? I posted probably a dozen comments, NONE inflammatory, with my real name, logged in via Twitter, and NONE get posted. Why bother participating?
As for our team, yeah, without our stud to clog the middle, the unexplained absence (or, at least, unknown to me) of Harrow and the starting of Polson (What the What?)… then, yep, we can just mail in the rest of this season.
But the live-blogging sucks, why not just have Drew, Mrs. Tyler, and Matt(?) talk to each other while literally 10s, if not dozens, of people watch their wit. Sigh.
Game, yeah, a total drag.
Live blog prevents it from even being a stress-reliever. Double-drag.

# 313 i love how u leave out lamb and terrance jones and how good jorts and liggins were before cal got him coached up but that would make u look stupid if u could not bitch . if u would honestly look instead of crying about your personal tantrums cal has worked a lot harder than he ever has. the facts are except from nerlens the whole class of freshmen and soph in the ncaa are depleted because they have declared for the draft . just look at the mock drafts in 2013 players who or below grade in college are going very high in draft . we need cal more than he needs all of this crybaby shit

Bad loss? yes. Reason to turn on Cal and the team? no. This team is deficient in areas. Mainly at the PG spot. Archie is not a PG…….and neither is Harrow. Lack of a good PG makes the whole team look bad. Just pass the ball around the perimeter and jack up a shot. We have struggled all year with penetration and TO’s. We were just able to keep the game within distance with Nerlens guarding the basket. He wasn’t great on the offensive end, but he kept defenses honest. Just him being in the game effected the other teams offense and what it was able to do. We are a totally new team right now. It is a new game plan for the rest of the season without Nerlens, they all have to learn a new way to try and score. It is going to be tough, we aren’t that good this year and the heart and passion just isn’t the same with this team. We have been spoiled the last couple seasons, but that is no reason to jump ship and start bad mouthing our players and questioning our coaches. Sometimes it works…………sometimes it doesn’t. We deal with it and get ready for the next game. And if you can’t………….go be a fan of some other team, I will still root for my Cats.

341–exactly. No this isn’t our best day–but anyone who has seen more than a couple games this season saw our weaknesses before this game–and unlike having a season to fix them–or 20+ games like when Rodney Dent went down…Cal had basically 3 days. This team is going to struggle–but I for one will rise and fall with them. They wear the blue and I support them when they win or lose. Period. These guys will learn in the next few weeks not only who their friends are–they will learn to deal with adversity–and next year’s team will be that much tougher because of it.

Cal cant coach???? Are you serious??? If wall’s team didn’t have a bad shooting night then he would have 2 championships right now. U have to be kidding. Next year they are instant contenders. I bet you love watching drunk @ss Gillespie coach too. Cal is the gold standard of recruiting and a great coach. Not many set plays, so if no one is hitting shots we are doomed. Just so happens we have one shooter on this team (Wiltjer) and everyone knows it. You’ll all be back on his nuts next year. In Cal I trust and so should the rest of KY.

Or rename it to the dead blog because it is dead. Its sucked since Beisner left. Limit it to one KSR staff person commenting, rotate them by the half or game to keep it fresh, get rid of all the tweeta by local news people, maybe have another staffer look for good fan comments to post.
At this point the live blog is the equivalent of the other team standing under the basket and Archie charging straight at them with the ball preparing to turn it over and land on his head!
