[Moderated by Matt Jones, Drew Franklin and Tyler Thompson]
The beginning of the above video is Boeheim addressing Andy Katz of ESPN. Pretty amazing comments, especially towards Katz, who seems to be generally well liked by most everyone. I have no idea the context, but I am sure we will find out.

Ooooouch.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:28 pm
Wow. I knew he could be snarky – but that was just plan mean.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:28 pm
damn son.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:30 pm
back story on why he said this, anyone?
February 13th, 2013 at 10:31 pm
Must be pretty bad to make Boeheim say that… Katz should’ve stolen a robe instead.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:31 pm
Coach should be careful who he casts stones at, some people can throw them stones back harder. if I was Katz I would go ahead and re-bring up the issue Syracuse had with an assistant coach and misconduct with young men, that kinda got forgotten in the Sandusky issues, just saying
February 13th, 2013 at 10:35 pm
Dang JB you never called us idiots
February 13th, 2013 at 10:36 pm
Wasn’t Boeheim that was calling out schools left and right for leaving the Big East?

February 13th, 2013 at 10:37 pm
That even made me uncomfortable…
February 13th, 2013 at 10:41 pm
Must be a Big East thing… be prick after you get your ass beat.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:41 pm
HAHA, I saw the Husky and I thought Boeheim was doing his best Calhoun impression. What an ass…
February 13th, 2013 at 10:41 pm
4–it was probably over a story Katz did on the eligibility issue of one of Syracuse’s players. the player told Katz something supposedly off the record and Katz reported it anyway.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:42 pm
#9 well, JB might have a reason after all…
February 13th, 2013 at 10:46 pm
Sure he wasn’t talking to Pat Forde?
February 13th, 2013 at 10:47 pm
Boeheim doesn’t always get the credit he is due for being one of the biggest divas in college basketball.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:48 pm
It is nice to see ESPN get blasted for once instead of everyone bending over backwards to try to please them.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:50 pm
9. Thanks. That explains it.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Sorry, but Boeheim’s assumption that “loyalty” is a trait that is important to being a good sportswriter, represents a huge part of what’s wrong with sports journalism. “Loyalty” is the trait of a PR person. Integrity and honesty are supposed to be the traits of a journalist.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:59 pm
Katz is an idiot. And Boeheim is a woman.
February 13th, 2013 at 11:03 pm
John H. bringing it
February 13th, 2013 at 11:14 pm
At least he didn’t go Chaney vs Calapari style on Katz!
February 13th, 2013 at 11:18 pm
Kate’s response was great, “last time I checked, I wasn’t being paid by Syracuse U”
February 13th, 2013 at 11:21 pm
I don’t suppose Katz called Boeheim out on a program with sex abuse, drug and academic problems going back over a decade? No, the media would never do that.
February 13th, 2013 at 11:29 pm
19)johnH- “Loyal” absolutely fits if Boeheim told him something off the record, for Katz’ own knowledge, and 3 hours later Katz is on national TV reporting it. Not that Jim’s connections could ever render Katz useless as a reporter, but Boeheim’s connections run deep (very involved with other coach’s charities, outings). If he puts out that Katz doesn’t respect “on the record” versus “off the record”, that definitely wouldn’t help a guy like Katz (or anyone in that role).
February 13th, 2013 at 11:32 pm
how much does dunkin donuts love this!?? this will be replayed over and over…and its right there hitting you in the face. They got their money’s worth for that backdrop tonight.
February 13th, 2013 at 11:40 pm
Boeheim’s mountain woman is going to have to relieve some of that tension.
February 14th, 2013 at 12:09 am
Anyone else getting the late-night munchies for some donut holes?
February 14th, 2013 at 12:23 am
Unbelievable. I agree with Boeheim.
February 14th, 2013 at 4:27 am
I wonder how people like Katz have a job in sports…he is an idiot!! And he basically dismissed the importance of the UL game saying basically it doesn’t compare to UConn(which is not a suprise) but to her the cards tell it, everyone in the Big east considers them a rival…I loved the whole interview and if he could have called out Pat Forde during it that would have been fine by me also.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:50 am
Who gives a SH#T what Boeheim thinks or says? He protected a pedophile on his staff for decades. I’ve got no use for the guy.
February 14th, 2013 at 6:46 am
Why is it that the old guard coaches in the Big East turn into Grumpy Ole Men? Jim Calhoun, Rick Pitino, John Thompson, and now Jim Boeheim. Maybe go to Florida for the winter would help their disposition.

Give it up Jimmy your losing it!
February 14th, 2013 at 8:35 am
Maybe Katz boned ms boneheim
February 14th, 2013 at 8:49 am
Jim “dirtiest program to never get called out” Boeheim is an asshole. Period. Always has been. Always will be. I live in New York and I am simply amazed at the arrogance and indignation he shows towards people. Him and Calhoun are cut from the same disgraceful and corrupt cloth.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:49 am
Boeheim and Syracuse usually get protected by the media because of how many of them went to Syracuse. He is one of the most arrogant a’holes in the profession and runs one of the dirtiest programs. They’re a known money school in recruiting circles and grades and conduct of b’ball players are overlooked or covered up constantly around campus.
The thing that amazes me is that the guy is considered “elite” yet he and his teams are mediocre at best. He’s coached Syracuse for 36 years and won 1 championship, been to 3 Final Fours & only 5 Elite Eights. He’s a clown and Syracuse fans are delusional. Good thing they have the media in their corner.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:17 am
37.) you’re talking out of your ass. Boeheim is one of the most respected men in the game by people who know him. He stands up for his players, something that more coaches should do despite the scrutiny they receive from people like you. Remember this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn3kPBww2w0
February 14th, 2013 at 10:21 am
I left that “idiot” after one year because he wouldnt give me the pay raise I demanded for wearing that ugly orange uniform. I even won him a championship!!!!
February 14th, 2013 at 10:41 am
Can you imagine the media firestorm and backlash if John Calipari talked this way to a reporter?
February 14th, 2013 at 11:30 am
The context is Andy Katz used an unnamed source to print stuff about Bernie Stine that ended up not even being true.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:30 am
berine fine*
February 14th, 2013 at 11:34 am
38 – I never said anything about him not standing up for his players. Sure, he does that in his media tough guy act plenty as you point out. To my point, he stands up for his players way more in getting them out of arrests, ignoring failed drug tests and covering up their grade issues. Class act indeed.
I’m not talking out of my ass. I attended Syracuse grad school. He actually threatened grad students at Newhouse (the Communications school, but you knew that since you know all things Cuse) about never saying anything bad about his team because “that’s the hand that feeds you”.
I note you took no issues with the facts that he’s not an elite coach, probably because the record speaks for itself.
February 14th, 2013 at 12:09 pm
#19 hit the nail on the head and almost drove it all the way in one strike. Where in the world Boeheim ever got the notion that journalists are supposed to be loyal to a COACH and/or team? Journalists, if they are good at all at their jobs, are only loyal to the readers which is to say loyal to integrity and truth. That’s the WHOLE POINT of journalism is to tell the truth when our leaders are lying to us: to EXPOSE injustice and shed light in dark places.
February 14th, 2013 at 1:07 pm
44. Why should Boeheim think he would get different coverage than say our fearless leader Barry Obama? Journalism has died in this country and now it’s “spin” and how to get your “spin” be it from the leaders or the supposed journalists out to the public.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
Good man, #9! I think you got it!
February 14th, 2013 at 5:14 pm
Here’s the explanation about the remark (and yes a John Calipari reference) http://www.syracuse.com/poliquin/index.ssf/2013/02/jim_boeheim_explains_what_led.html#incart_m-rpt-2
