The latest Bracketology is out! Joe Lunardi projects the Cats will be a #9 seed in the Midwest, facing off against the #8 Fighting Shaka Smarts of VCU in Dayton, Ohio. If they win, they may face the #1 seed Indiana Hoosiers.
Also in the bracket? #3 seed Louisville, who could play the winner of #11 North Carolina and #6 Minnesota.
Lunardi’s other #1 seeds are Duke, Miami (FL) and Michigan.
Is it wrong that hypothetical matchups give me chills?

So, he ranks us between 32nd and 36th in the country? Not a lot of faith in UK if you ask me. Based on current rankings, we should be a 6 or 7 seed.

While I would LOVE the chance to end IU and UL season over the course of a week, the other brackets would be much better for us.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:03 pm
IU fans would revolt against the NCAA if UK was in their first weekend bracket. I say, lets get it on! Cats!
February 12th, 2013 at 3:06 pm
If the cats start kicking A>> then NO way would they face IND. that early…

Lunardi, while fairly accurate with seeding positions, always does these match-ups that gives the fan bases a stir. No way in hell to predict who plays who, why not make it intriguing?
February 12th, 2013 at 3:09 pm
If this is the draw we get, we’re screwed. We won’t be dancing the second weekend of the tourney.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:10 pm
One thing to be happy about – the fact that Lunardi may sometimes get the seeds correct, he rarely ever pegs the matchups.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:12 pm
Does this turd even look at his own Bracketology? Every week it’s a different region, different seed, different teams in the bracket with us. It’s just annoying.
FWIW…You can be sure the NCAA will have us playing Indiana

1. The matchup predictions at this time are a waste of time.
2. Our RPI is currently in the mid 40′s. This is what those knuckleheads use to pick seeds. If we beat UF tonight, we should make a good jump.

8. thats how he gets hits & makes his living. only look at the seed with him.

2nd week in a row that Lunardi has put IU, Louisville, and Kentucky in the same 2-3rd round location. I asked him about Florida and Miami being both sent to Lexington and he said Lex is the closest location in 2-3rd rounds for them. I did a mapquest and Lex is closer by approx 130 miles to Gainesville than Dayton.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:18 pm
Strike my previous statement. All RPI ranking sites now have us at 49. LOL
February 12th, 2013 at 3:21 pm
Wouldn’t IU end up in Lexington the first two rounds? If so, that guarantees we won’t be the 8 or 9 in their region.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:30 pm
8/9 is a terrible seed to have, hopefully UK can get to the 6/7 line and avoid playing a 1 seed in the second round. I wouldn’t mind UK meeting Gonzaga as a 2 seed in the second round. And Seriously Colorado St is a 7 seed? No way look at that schedule, they lost to Illinois-Chicago.

I’m not a Tubby basher,but 1st thing i noticed was how is Minnesota a 6 seed?
February 12th, 2013 at 3:37 pm
Lunardi is about as reliable as Miss Cleo’s meteorology department. Two years ago he didn’t even get the 1 seeds right (leaving out Duke of all teams). It’d be one thing to miss the two line, but the one? Take everything this guy says with a polite smile and nod, kind of like you do when your drunk uncle starts his Christmas rant against immigrants.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:40 pm
Though these brackets are interesting and we all doubt Lunardi can accurately predict the true brackets, this one does bring up an interesting point. Why should UK always be pitted against ul and iu? I don’t mind playing them and I feel confident that UK would beat either of them on a neutral floor, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a true random drawing where we could actually play someone different for a change. iu and ul fans must be getting pretty tired of having uk end their dreams.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:45 pm
No way Minnesota draws a 6 seed. Also, I would rather UK be a 10 seed than a 8/9.
February 12th, 2013 at 3:47 pm
Would be tough, but the chance that UK would beat IU would be probably the greatest game of my lifetime (I live in Indiana)
February 12th, 2013 at 3:48 pm
IU will most likely be playing their 1st weekend games at rupp so don’t expect UK to be their 9 seed

21 – Allllright. Giggity.
February 12th, 2013 at 4:07 pm
Bring it on…this bracket is golden
February 12th, 2013 at 4:13 pm
Just like those disclaimers on medication ads, you could get all the side effects or maybe one…..When Lunardi throws those things out there he might get one of them right, hell even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
February 12th, 2013 at 4:13 pm
People calm down! This is if the season ended now. Of coarse this is going to change weekly. There is no use to start taking this serious untill the end of the year. Give Lunardi credit every year he gets the bracket fairly close and usually picks a upset or two, but it’s way to early to read anything into this yet.
15) I’m a admitted Tubby basher, and think Tubby not BCG was to blame for the shape our program was allowed to stoop to before Cal! I see no way Tubby will be a higher seed then UK. He will stumble down the stretch as he has every year he’s been at UM. Tubby is NOT a tournament coach and his teams peak to early. Tubby is vastly overpayed and he is still making a living off Shepard getting hot at the right time! When UM stumbles to the finish line this year Tubby could be in trouble maybe Morehead or Eastern could use a coach. After the way he left UK in the middle of the night in horrible shape Karma is a MF!
February 12th, 2013 at 4:35 pm
Tom Crean would throw a fit about how unfair that matchup would be because UK fans would be about 80% of the crowd. I’d love it.
February 12th, 2013 at 4:54 pm
9 – If that is the case then IU should be a three seed since their RPI ranking is 11th
February 12th, 2013 at 5:11 pm
I would rather be a 7-seed or a 10-seed. I can’t stand that 8/9 game where winning rewards you with playing the #1 seed in the 2nd round.A 2nd round game v Gonzaga is much more favorable.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:38 pm
So let’s see here, we have Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana, North Carolina, and a Tubby-coached Minnesota all in the same bracket?? Wow.
February 12th, 2013 at 5:53 pm
No but it’s wrong that we wouldn’t be a higher seed, even at this point. A 9 seed has us as the #33-36 best team.
February 12th, 2013 at 6:07 pm
I would love that seed. Take on the number 1 seed in the second game and let the chips fall where they may. Any success in this tournament will be fine with me. We just won the title, and we will begin next year as the overwhelming favorite. Life is good for UK fans.
