Somebody’s angry
On January 14th, the Louisville Dirty Birds picked up their schools first #1 ranking in school history (during the regular season). U of Smell was on a roll, with the ranking conveniently timed just weeks after they beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl. Fans of the Dirty Bird (a lot of them my close friends) were yapping at an all-time high, finally feeling what it is is like to put on Big Brother’s shoes. Fast Forward a month and those shoes are just too big to fill.
Since U of L peaked, they have gone 4-4 with only one definitive win in the books (Marquette). Not only are they losing, but they’re choking in EXTRAORDINARY fashion. The ghost of Kenneth Faried still haunts Peyton Siva. “Russdiculousness” is now just ridiculous in the worst way. Watching Louisville’s failed attempts to score in the closing seconds of regulation and all 5 OTs puts a smile on the face of blue bloods all over Kentucky. It’s even funnier that they choked in the same fashion against Syracuse to begin their downward spiral.
If you didn’t find that funny enough, Mark Stoops had a better recruiting class than Charlie Strong. UK was 2-10 last season.

will be interesting to see what the next rankings look like … the current top 5 (indiana, florida, michigan, duke and kansas) are a combined 6-7 so far in february, wow! there was an indiana/michigan game in there, so they best they could’ve performed would’ve been 12-1, but 6-7 is BAD … there are a couple games this afternoon that will change this before the next poll, also

Off point rant. I constantly hear the Big Blue Nation trashed as ignorant rednecks. But Duke, with the dead grandma chant, and Notre Dame, with the alienage chant, lack imagination and driven by animus, or worse, misguided elitist humor. Then again, then are the same p****s that only know Kentucky as the place with horses on the drive to Hilton Head from Chicago. At least, we have not degraded to the point of italian soccer fans.

Louisville managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on 6 occasions–regulation and 5 overtimes–all of which they held lead in and were unable to maintain those leads. That has to be a new record for futility!

25)It had to be the first time in history that a team has had the ball on the last possession with a chance to win the game five straight times, end of regualtion, first overtime,second overtime, third overtime, forth overtime and then had the ball at the end of the fifth overtime with a chance to tie.Russ Smith took all 5 shots that could have won it and missed every single one.Then he took a shot with a two point lead and the shot clock off that gave ND the chance to send it to the fifth overtime. How big of an idiot is this guy? One chance to win the game with about 16 seconds left he stands 40 feet from the basket and dribbles the clock all the way down and then shoots it from there, a 40 foot shot. I cannot believe that Pitino put up with that crap without benching him. Pitino has gotten really soft in his old days.(That is also what she says.)

26. Little brother? Really? We own you in the series. The last time we played, we beat you by double digits en route to a title (another category we decidedly have you beat in.) Win something worth putting on a banner. Even a Final Four will look better than calling the all time winningest program your little brother just because you have one good season. That is like Miami calling themselves the greatest program in the ACC. One good season doesn’t make a program, especially if you flame out of the tourney.
Butler has had more recent tourney success than you. I think that makes them your big brother, considering they have been to more Final Fours in the last five years than you and beat you this year.
Either you as our odd ginger cousin or our lil bro UL will have a disappointing season. Maybe both. Let’s let Gonzaga have a turn being number 1 this week. They haven’t had a turn yet and maybe they could hold onto it better than the last few teams.

30. I would be ok if UK football experienced an upward climb like Strong gave Louisville. I don’t think UK football will be elite any time soon, but a fluke BCS bowl in three years would be crazy fun.
The difference in UK’s and UL’s ND games is that UK got blown out in their first ever road game. It wasn’t terribly surprising. The lack of effort was disheartening, but UK at that point was no longer a major favorite to win it all. UL considered this team the best Pitino has had there and their best chance at a championship. Having so many chances to win and blowing them shows that UL isn’t as good as they thought they were going to be and Pitino is terrible in late game situations.
I for one am sick of UL coasting through nonconference play, hitting a slump in conference play and calling whatever they do in March a miracle. They underachieve every year and yet put themselves in a position to call their team overachievers. It is annoying how in Marxh they will always look at their team as an underdog, even when they started out as a favorite to win the whole thing and had a #1 ranking.

I have said it for 4 years. as folks were pumping up siva as one of the best point gaurds in the nation, i asked “which top 50 program would trade their point guard for siva”, the answer is none!! and now the answer is none of the top 100 programs would trade their point gaurd for siva. louisville has no chance of a championship this year and the decades long drought will continue for many more decades. ricky tabletop should go ahead and retire.

Funny you call Cal a cheater when you all had players declared ineligible for games this year. Undeserved, yes, but one could say the same about Cal’s reputation. Why wouldn’t a talented player want to play for a coach credited with putting so many players in the NBA? Why would they want to spend four years in Bloomington when they could spend one year in Lexington which at least has Keeneland.

Indiana has 5 titles and that’s 3 shy, but to call IU a little brother is the height of delusion. If we were having a historical debate, you win, sure. But when you talk about this year, you guys are taking a lot of delight in IU and U of L losses. Which is sad as hell. You guys happy being second in the SEC? A joke. Oh we beat Old Miss. They’d be lucky to finish above 10th in the Big Ten. UK wouldn’t finish in the top 8. It’s just sad that you guys are so down that you have to delight in the misery of others. Louisville stomped your asses and IU would beat you by 20+. That’s the truth and there’s not a person here who’d dispute it. Enjoy it when IU loses but based on today’s evidence it’s not gonna happen much more. I’d give anything to see you guys in the tourney again. That’s an easy path to advancement. I hardly call losing by 3 a stomping. For UL, maybe, but it says a lot that Cal’s worst team only lost on the road to Pitino’s “best” UL team by 3.
This team plays to their competition. If the team has a number next to their name, they give it their all. They played well against Duke and the UL game came down to free throws. I actually like our chances better against a highly ranked team like Florida, or even Indiana in the tournament, because they seem to come together better against better competition. Tennessee and Arkansas, on the other hand, worry me. They also now seem better on the road than at home. In other words, they are only tough when they realize they need to be. They go soft against worse teams.
Next year we could have a crazy good bench.
