Florida Loses a Player for Four to Six Weeks

by @ 4:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Florida Forward Will Yuguete will be out for 4-6 weeks after undergoing knee surgery to remove bone chips. Yuguete is the team’s second leading rebounder and while not a prolific scorer, his ability to hit the glass and defend has been a huge help to the Gators this season. He hopes to return by the SEC Tournament, which is why he having the surgery at this time. One hates to see any player get hurt, so we wish the best for Yuguete. As for the Gators, it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from their horrific loss to Arkansas on Saturday, knowing that the Cats come calling in Gainesville on Tuesday.

    Conehead!

Yeguette was hurt fairly early in that Arkansas game as I recall and his absence was felt. He is one tough defender. And one very annoying guy….

  3. BobKYCats Says:

I’ve never seen someone’s head come to such a clean, perfect point.

  4. Justin Fortner Says:

Florida has dealt with alot of injuries this season. Murphy has broken Ribs, Yeguete has been battling a bad knee for about a month, Wilbekin broke his finger early in the year, Prather had a concussion and is slowly coming back from a bad ankle.

Meanwhile UK fans should feel blessed. Coach Cal has had a thin bench for two years now and his players have been healthy with no nagging injuries. Yes Cauley was hurt but he recovered fairly quickly and now looks 100%.

Florida is the best team this year! UK has a chance to win the SEC with this injury. Gators have absolutely no depth behind Young and Murphy. look for them to play alot of zone against us come tuesday in the swamp.

For someone who constantly searches for his own name on Twitter and responds to negative comments by correcting usage of “your” vs. “you’re,” you make mistakes like spelling “Yeguete” as “Yuguete” quite often.

  6. kybigblue Says:

He missied games last year and they did fine without him.

  7. tdogg40330 Says:

i’t dont matter, UK is gonna whoop that ass Tuesday with or w/o him ….

  8. Buddy Halsell Says:

Will Yeguete better by SEC tourney time, Will Yuguete?

#4 – We do not play them in the Swamp Tues. We play them in the Stephen C O’Connell Arena. While it has not accumulated the terror that the Swamp often has, it is a miserable place to at least watch a Kentucky game. While living in florida while attending college at Embry Riddle, my wife and I went to Every Away UF/UK game. We had to wear orange, and utilize our Fl drivers license just to get people to give/sell us tickets and were NOT welcomed inside once the orange was removed. They seat less than 12K and try their best not to let many UK fans in the house, making it a loud ADVANTAGE UF. One year I actually saw/shook/talked with Tubby’s wife and immediate family, in the Upper level end section!!! Image an AWAY crowd with Ammunition like SAUL SMITH!!!

Going to the game on Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing the team since I missed them at the final four in Indy.

  11. SeoulCat Says:

#4, UK had a chance to win the SEC before this injury. Don’t be silly.

  12. BlueFins Says:

Oh good, it’s just his knee. I thought something was terribly wrong with his head.

  13. Justin Fortner Says:

#11, yes Uk did have a chance to win the SEC (albeit probably not a good one). Florida was hands down the favorite to win the SEC title. now Uk has a better than (much better) to win the SEC.

  14. Al's IndiCats Says:

Not to be disrespectful or anything like that to that young man, BUT the last time I saw a point like that on a head, it was on a jack hammer’s bit!

  15. Blue Jesus Says:

Florida isn’t so intimidating now that they were exposed down in Little Rock.

  16. Big O Says:

Wish the young man the best in his recovery. You know he wants to be on the court.

  17. Marcus L Owens Says:

    I agree with #7.

  18. CliffFrankLous Says:

Something does not quite make sense here…if the procedure is simply to remove “bone chips” then the duration would not be 4-6 weeks. That would be simple arthroscopy a 1-2 week absence. An interval of 4-6 weeks is more consistent with some type of reparative procedure. So, either we are not getting the whole story on the problem with his knee or the time frame has been inflated. Something is missing in the explanation.

  19. Jeff Garlin Says:

Hope he gets well soon. I hate to see that happen to anyone!

  20. Diana Says:

Vote Kyle Wiltjer best 6th man on ESPN #best6thman! Don’t let Indiana win!

  21. gog8ors Says:

I hope most of you realize that his hairstyle is the reason his head looks that way and not the natural shape of his cranium. Anyway, this kid missed the end of last season when he broke his foot playing Auburn and now may miss the rest of this season. Really tough defender and rebounder that will be sorely missed by Florida. His absence more than likely cost Florida a trip to the Final Four last season as we had no answer to Louisville’s Chane Behanan inside and this allowed them to make a huge comeback and win the game. It also didn’t help that Erving Walker was jacking up threes from downtown that didn’t come close while we were in the lead either but I digress. Florida had a chance for a deep run in the tourney this season but this probably ends any realistic chance we may have had. That’s the way the ball bounces sometimes but hopefully all isn’t lost and maybe he can make a recovery in time to play in the post season. Bad break for a really good kid that went on a mission trip to Africa this past summer and is a highly respectful young man.
