[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Watching tonight’s game between Ohio State and North Carolina was a little scary wasn’t it? I mean there were two teams, one of whom we actually have to play, that are LOADED with talent, ran up and down the court and seemed to have athletes coming out the wazoo. And the craziest thing is that the best player on the court was not even on the court at all, but rather was sitting on the bench….Greg Oden. At times I found myself wondering, “just how bad are we gonna get beat on Saturday?” But then I realized, there is no need to worry, there is no need to fret, cause Mr. Mark Coury is who UNC is about to get.
Sometimes you fall for someone slowly…..you have to learn the good, the bad and the ugly and then decide if you can handle it in its total package. But then there are the times that you know upon sight just how wonderful a person is. That is the case with Mark Coury. You remember the first time you saw Mark Coury? It probably was on here, and it was this picture:

Yeah, at that point I knew that there was life after Woo. Obrzut came into Kentucky with all the characteristics that can make a special player……obscene height, overflowing goofiness and a Polish accent….well what more can you ask for? But as with the Bulls when Michael Jordan left, I wondered if anyone could replace this perfect storm. But along has come the Coury Flurry.
What does Mark Coury have to offer? Well first, how about a near perfect resemblance to one “Napoleon Dynamite”? I mean as a former wearer of rec specs, seeing someone who sports them with such flair makes me giggle with anticipation. And then there is of course the jersey. He is playing for a team called “The Family”, which would be an awesome name for an And1 player. Plus you have the hair….part curly mop, part pre-bar mitzfah coif, Coury’s hair says “I know I look good and I dont need your fashion tips.” Coury’s newer photos show a man who isnt afraid to grow a little facial hair……not too much mind you, but just enough to let the ladies know that a tough guy is underneath.
And then of course there is the game…..oh what game. Coury has muscles that allow him to beat and bang on the low block. Against College of Charleston we saw that Mark not only can hit down low, but he can also give some touch from the outside, as he scored four points in one minute…..putting his points per game ratio at 160 points if given the minutes he deserves. Yes, what we know about the Coury Flurry is that it wants to be unleashed…..like a pit bull left in a closet with nothing but tofu, Mark is filled with rage and ready to let it come out on a quivering Brandon Wright…..plus sources are telling me that Tyler Hansborough is reportedly shaking in his Attention Deficit Disorder boots. Tubby it is time to unleash the beast. UNC may have more talent, the home court, the momentum and the pace of game edge…..but we have the Coury Flurry……and that may just be enough!!!!

Oh Yeah Baby. Coury and Stevenson are going to rip up the Tar Heels frontcourt. Hansbrough tries that little drive under the basket hook/layup Stevenson’s gonna swat it away everytime. And Stevenson won’t be scared to go up and contest when Hansbrough tries to draw the foul in the deep post. Watch out Hansbrough. By the end of the game Coury will be making a fool of your defense and Stevenson will be feeding you your own lunch.

You got me in tears dude… LOL
November 29th, 2006 at 11:34 pm
Last man I saw looking like that (beardy pic) was drinking whiskey at the Red River Gorge. Maybe the best strategy for Sat.
November 29th, 2006 at 11:43 pm
You know, the very first time i saw that picture of him in “the family” jersey i really didn’t know what to say. I was literally speechless. BTW, i am still scared $%ITless about this saturday’s game.
November 29th, 2006 at 11:45 pm
Coury will be pulling out moves from Space Jam on UNC. UNC should go ahead and forfeit. He’s our secret weapon and you can’t stop him!!!
November 29th, 2006 at 11:54 pm
Tofu is mentioned in the blog. YES!
November 30th, 2006 at 12:03 am
I say we take the Nation by storm and surprise them all with the a secret weapon. When we are down by a shot, have someone do a silly nut trick to distract them. We can have Napolean do the “camel toe,” “fruit basket,” or one of the others. It would get more attention then the high school kid getting on all fours and barking like a dog, and it would be guaranteed to make sportscenter. Coury Floury would be a houshold name.
November 30th, 2006 at 12:18 am
Tonight, I watched the UNC/OSU game, which made me realize just how far the UK basketball program has fallen under the current regime. This made me frown.
But then I thought of Mark Coury, and for a brief instant, I smiled.
However, I immediately remembered that we have to play UNC in 3 days, at which point I curled up in a fetal position and started sobbing uncontrollably.
Basketball doesn’t matter, right?
November 30th, 2006 at 12:20 am
Only took 8 posts for someone to be a complete downer…
November 30th, 2006 at 12:27 am
Matt, maybe we can get Coury and the team to have a night “Rollin’ with Bob Sagat” for a little R&R? Enjoyed the article thanks for the laugh.
November 30th, 2006 at 12:28 am
Not being a downer.
Just emoting. Can’t a guy emote around here?
November 30th, 2006 at 12:29 am
Matt
I was the first to tell you about this undiscovered gem in Mark Coury. I don’t know what kind of game plan Roy Williams can put together in order to stop the “Coury Flurry”. It is definately a force to be reckoned with. I often wonder what if Joey Waldrop had some mysterious eligibility left over. If so, Waldrop and Coury would be the next great tag team like the Bushwackers in the WWF. The Wiggle Waldrop and Coury Flurry would haver been phenominal. Oh well, at least we have the guy that doubles and Napoleon at night and The Coury Flurry during the day. Long Live The Coury Flurry. Keep it rollin Matt! The Coury Flurry is picking up steam very quickly and is ona collision course in Chapel Hill.
GO BIG BLUE!!!!!
Conley
November 30th, 2006 at 12:40 am
Coury actually reminds me a little of Waldrep, only with the touch of Jon Nordin and the raw animal magnetism of Steve Newman.
How’d he ever get away from Dennis Felton?
November 30th, 2006 at 12:52 am
No doubt he’s a good-looking guy. Strong arms and chest….well…ahh..strike that….. How ’bout those Bears!
November 30th, 2006 at 1:42 am
i am proud to say that this man attends Earthquakes and Volcanoes class with me.. i know, everyone can have their turn at touching me…
after reading this i noticed two things… the author, Matt Jones, says something about handling a package.. one can infer that you mean Coury’s package
the other thing i noticed was look at Mark Coury’s picture… he’s a mix of Matt Leinart as a child (a little chubby and handi”capable” look with his retrospecs) and a little mix of new born horse… i had a few friends attending the game and they told me that the crowd cheered after Coury gained full use and control of his legs..
November 30th, 2006 at 2:34 am
#11, you were being a downer in your emoting.
November 30th, 2006 at 3:37 am
I actually think UNC plays at a pace Uk will like. Have to watch those turnovers, but I don’t think it’s going to be as one sided as some of you folks. I think UCLA has a better team than both UNC and Ohio State, and we took them to the wire, pretty much without Stevenson having a decent game.
I’m not sure what some of you saw last night, but I saw two teams playing rather lax on the defensive end. I’m mean, 98-89 that’s a track meet. Hansbrough didn’t kill us last year, and we didn’t have Morris for that game. Reyshawn Terry will not shoot 80% from behind the arc this saturday, he was playing way over his head last year. Lawson does concern me, because Ramel hasn’t really stopped anyone this year, but Jasper did well on Collison, so he may limit Lawson’s penetration as well.
I do look for Morris to foul out this game, and possibly Woo and Carter too. The game is in Chapel Hill, and Tyler has an assortment of fakes, and drop steps. That’s trouble for our big guys. We may see Coury after all.
If this team can’t get up for this game, then they’re hopeless. I look for them to be ready for war. I really do. Will Uk win? I’m not sure, but I can garantee they will be there in the end.
November 30th, 2006 at 7:18 am
Someone HAS to call into the BBL and ask Tubby about this.
KSR caller: Hi Coach, congrats on the win over Thomas More.
Tubby: Thanks, it was a tough one.
KSR caller: What do you think about the Coury Flurry?
Tubby: I um…what?
November 30th, 2006 at 8:17 am
I hope Tubby brings plenty of defibulators and oxygen tents for Sat. I think we will be run off the court. We can blame it Jetlag flying to NC when our 2nd half is worse than the Memphis one. I hope we are up to the task of running. The UNC style and pace seems strangely familiar to me. Like a person you know that you have met in the past, but just can’t place.
But, the Flurry gives me a glimmer of hope. His high school picture has me wondering if he played for Charles Manson High. You know apparently Manson is from Ashland like most of the famous Kentuckians. Halftime of the game will be a Texas Cage Match- The Flurry Coury vs the Ronald Curry. Pitting one man playing above his high school basketball reputation and one playing way below his hype. I bet James On-Curry jumps into the mix.
I hope I’m completely wrong about the outcome. We do I have our 4 year in the system players- Bobby, Sheray, and Woo. They have given us a lot more than any of those top 50 players we could have had for 2 years. I wish we still had Shagari. The starting line-up could be:
1) Coury- PG
2) Morris – SG
3) Woo- Wing
4) Carter- PF
5) Shagari-C
At least we would be going in the history books for something.
P.S. The Coury is scoring more ass than the rest of us. Go get’em Flurry.
November 30th, 2006 at 8:29 am
After watching the game last night (DVR). I did noticed that Coury, after each shot would look and find someone to block out. I have not seen that from the Sr. or Jr. class, hell I have not seen that in a UK team for a while.
Keep Banging Coury Flurry…….
November 30th, 2006 at 9:20 am
we are screwed! “Attention Deficit Disorder boots”… that was very funny. He does seem like an ADD kid.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:25 am
20. Not true at all - Morris has been excellent at blocking out this year. The rest of our upperclassmen, though, couldn’t block out Gary Coleman.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:28 am
#15 Earthquakes and Volcanoes class, I forgot all about that, “Devastations and Disasters” as it was formally called. I missed the first 2 or 3 days and dropped it like a pass to Woo.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:33 am
uk fans we are in trouble. i hate unc and i was even entertained by the style of play relentlessly attacking the basket, shooting whenever with no fear of coming out, uptempo at its best. i think uk invented this style some time ago but must have forgotten it in the latest coaching change. unfortunately we will get run out of the gym on saturday. the only hope to stay close is for them to come out flat because of an emotional game against #1 osu. if not get ready for another beatdown on national tv. do you think that hansbrough and wright are wondering why they would have ever considered uk over unc. i dont think so now. final score 92-68 (at best)
November 30th, 2006 at 9:37 am
Coury is Da Man. I honestly think the kid could be a major contributor.
He downright loves to bang inside and did anyone see him tip that rebound back the other night. Impressive.
Tubby you may have found a diamond in the rough. Keep growing out that hair Coury!
I heard over on the Gonzaga message board the fans are pissed that Few let this one get away.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:37 am
CONTEST! See how many phone numbers Woo and the Flurry can get on campus in a 24 hour period. Woo has an advantage in that he can take advantage of drunk girls at the Keys, but the Flurry has the advantage of being able to speak proper English.
I’m gonna take Woo by three on name recognition only.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:40 am
#24- Enough with the negativity. We all know that we’re not the best team in the world right now, but this blog is a whole lot more fun since the negativity has been toned down.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:42 am
#16 - Unfortunately, emoting sometimes requires one to get in touch with the sad, tragic, and depressing aspects of life.
Just ask Morrissey.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:43 am
The hardest thing to watch in the UNC game last night was the 3 players that could have easily been wearing UK blue right now.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:48 am
#28- Simply don’t emote then, it’s as easy as that.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:49 am
What does pre Bar-Mitzvah hair mean? Does it simply mean he looks jewish? I’m confused.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:53 am
“emote” - word for the day.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:54 am
If we get Coury going up against Hansbourgh, that would be something. The facial expressions would be worth the wait. I know Tyler is a good player but from the way he looks when he plays, I’m always thinking this kid is one bad game from shooting up the post office.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:55 am
On another amusing note, did anyone else see the reports that Joakim Noah and Billy Donovan had to get tested for mono? (This after Corey Brewer is declared to be out indefinitely with mono.) I think they both came up negative, but the tests themselves have to make you wonder what’s going on in the Florida student athlete housing.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:57 am
#15 Possible correction, is it “Dinosaurs and Disasters”? My bad.
November 30th, 2006 at 9:58 am
Sorry, #30.
You can’t just tell somebody not to emote.
You might as well just tell the sun not to be hot, or tell the ocean not to be wet.
Some things just….are.

NOW THATS FUNNY!!!!!
November 30th, 2006 at 9:59 am
dockat,
i am stating the truth and unfortunately it is negative and the state of our basketball program. i think it is much more fun talking about how we are going to beat people and by how much. also more fun to talk about the great recruits we have, not the ones we lost. when it is fun to watch the best program of all time, that is when the negativity stops. until then, you must face reality.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:05 am
wildcathater3 (#38):
I think the point Matt consistently makes on this site is that this blog is for people that still love and enjoy Kentucky basketball even when it has a down year. Go gripe somewhere else.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:18 am
Just for the record, I believe Pitino was 0-3 against Carolina.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:20 am
#39 - you mean years right? I still love KY basketball and have been to every home game this year. That doesn’t mean that I can’t voice my concerns and worries. Maybe you should go somewhere where you are not allowed to.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:24 am
Last nights game was incredibly entertaining. In fact I remember when we used to be that entertaining. And if you seperate loyalty to the program, noone would ever argue that our team has been that entertaining in years. Sad but true.
I for one think we’ll play fairly well at UNC. Tubby is the master of making teams play ugly and I don’t think UNC will get to run like they did with OSU. That will lessen the impact of their atheletes. The system is built for the underdog and it will keep the game closer then it otherwise would be.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:28 am
the program was still in the spotlight and a consistent national power with pinto, even if they were 0-3 against unc. that is not the point. compare the 2 and see where they are headed. one is going up and getting great talent every year. one does not and is starting to lose it edge. interestingly enough, vitale said at the beginning of the game, he would rather have talent then chemistry anyday. did you guys catch that. we finally have chemistry on this team but where is the deep talent. nowhere to be found.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:43 am
PLEASE SHUT UP ABOUT TUBBY!!!!
Go somewhere else and do it…..if you cant take a lighthearted thread about a lighthearted guy and not use it to gripe, then you just need to go to sites that turn EVERY THREAD into a gripe….and they are out there….enjoy
November 30th, 2006 at 10:51 am
matt, are you refering to my post? In your blog you were talking about our prospects Saturday and the deal about Tubby was that we’d play closer because he won’t let them run up and down the court. I thought that was definately in context of the blog?
November 30th, 2006 at 11:03 am
You can make fun of him if you want but he appears to be coachable. He should be an inspiration to the players on free rides who take playing for UK for granted. I would play the kid more especially against UNC. Let him break a few noses.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:03 am
with the naivity of the media, boosters, blind fans, and administration things will never change matt. i am not a supporter of mediocrity and a defender of it like you must be. the truth is the truth, even if it hurts. i have loyally read your blog every day since i found it a month ago but to try to call me out is a farce. go ahead and defend the state of the program all you want too. if you think that we are as good, intimidating, or competitive as years past, you must not be watching the same games as i am. enjoy.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:11 am
WOW Matt - I can’t find one post in this blog bashing Tubby!!
Lighten up brother!

few years.”
Negativitons: “That’s all well and good, but feline AIDS is the

November 30th, 2006 at 11:14 am
#43-”the program was still in the spotlight and a consistent national power with pinto”
Who is ‘pinto’? Was he that Venezuelan PF we had in 99? Man, what I would give to have a front line of “Coury Flurry” and “Pinto Bean”!
November 30th, 2006 at 11:17 am
I just realized this last night as was actually at the UNC-O State game, (which was a great game) Kentucky is going to have a great team next year, top 5 maybe, we should have Ramel, Joe and hopefully morris back, along with our Stevenson, Meeks, Jasper, Porter, the flurry, A.J. Stewart, Razor Ramon Harris, That Bishop guy, Jared Carter, and probably Marshall Moses. That is a very talented team, with the exception of jared Carter, also we have a shot at P-Pat and Jai Lucas. All of that talent should lend itself to a top 5 preseason rating if Morris stays, and no one decides to transfer. So, ignoring dooms day (saturday), we do have something to look forward to.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:20 am
TomS, I was not referring to you….for once
I was referring to the posts by wildcatlover and others about the “program being in decline and the like…”
I am glad you are a fan of the site and I love having you on here….but we run off many of our biggest fans when we turn every conversation into one about the “state of the program”
And TrueBlue25….I deleted most of the threads that I was talking about….so just because you didnt see them didnt mean they werent here

What are the flavors the Coury Flurry comes in? Just pure vanilla?
November 30th, 2006 at 11:31 am
If anyone has and views on my outlook for the team next year, I am curious to hear them. Also, ae you all ytalking about? “Dinosaurs and Disasters”?
November 30th, 2006 at 11:37 am
pinto is a slang term for pitino, since i dont like to say or type his or petrinos name. thought some people might be able to read between the lines. and to all of those big fans that i have ran off, i apologize, that way matt wont block me from posting my opinions. bishop guy is mike williams, recruiting class looks to be better than in the past, future may be bright. i love uk basketball and matt jones for allowing fans to ineract that they wouldnt otherwise get while being unproductive at work following a stupid game.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:40 am
yeah, for some reason i was thinking mike Bishop, but I think that the high school he goes to is named Bishop, anyway….
November 30th, 2006 at 11:43 am
I’m almost 100% POSITIVE that our own JOE CRAWFORD was a legend on “The Family”, correct? It’s Detroit’s big AAU squad, I believe. Sorry I’m not going to take the time to look it up for 100% confirmation, but I am pretty sure JC played on The Fam back in his heyday.
UPDATE: Actually, I felt guilty so I went ahead and looked it up. Yes, he was on “The Family”. I believe Joe’s younger brother, Jordan Crawford (I wonder who he was named after?) is coming up the ranks and may be on the current roster.
Here’s an interesting snippet from an article on JC and The Fam from ‘03. The guy says he’s the most dynamic player (then Michigan) would have since Chris Webber. Wow.
“Malik’s jumper is more renowned at this point, but Joe is no slouch. I’ve seen him hit 6 threes in at least 3 games now. He can rock the dribble and pull up for a three, drive and shoot a leaner in the lane, or take it all the way to the basket and finish despite contact. I agree with Coach Walker in that I too think that the one part of Joe’s game that probably needs the most improvement is his aggression. I don’t mean taking the ball up hard or the like, because he does that. I mean aggression in the form of demanding the ball…. taking his opponent’s will…dunking on a guy that talks too much smack and then giving him a glare after he’s served him a facial. That’s something I’ve been seeing him do more of lately.
Joe-Joe will probably be the most dynamic player (in terms of physical tools) Michigan has had since Webber. In my opinion, he is the most gifted offensive player I’ve seen from this state since that time. I like the JR Rider (minus the attitude) and Baron Davis comparisons given by Vince and Mark White (Joe’s high school head coach) in my Joe Crawford Scouting Report a few months back. He has that kind of explosive attack. The kid can do amazing things at times, and at others you’ll wonder how he’s gone minutes without getting a shot. Once his aggression rises to the level of his ability, he’ll be even MORE big time than he already is!”
November 30th, 2006 at 11:52 am
Mark Coury is to “The Family” what Marilyn was to “The Munsters.”
November 30th, 2006 at 11:55 am
Feel free to delete this if I’m wrong Matt (not that you need my permission), but what I think Mr. Jones is trying to say is there’s a time and a place for everything. If you want to post about the state of a program, fine. Just do it on a post about the state of the program. When the post is a lighthearted joking around story, take a Prozac and let the thread be about kitties and rainbows and other fun stuff. Getting emotional is fine on this post as long as the emotion can be classified as “little school girl giddy.”
November 30th, 2006 at 12:11 pm
Let’s have not one but five Mark Couries on the floor at one time. Imagine five Couries with thick Kurt Rambis-style glasses moving in a precise and uncannily effective dance of brutal dominance all the while whipping the Rupp crowd into a bloodthirstiness not seen since the days of the Hanson Brothers and the Charlestown Chiefs.
November 30th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
do-wap-dididid-do-wap- Hanson
November 30th, 2006 at 12:18 pm
And yes, the experiment could backfire with the Coury 5 playing like those Hanson brothers.
November 30th, 2006 at 12:22 pm
How about like the Brady Bunch when they sang. Cindy has a mean turnaround. And she can grad more bounds than Bobby.

November 30th, 2006 at 12:36 pm
LOL to someone referring to last nights game as a track meet.
no, that was enjoyable basketball.
November 30th, 2006 at 12:42 pm
Isn’t the state of the program on every fan’s mind/ I know most of you aren’t old enough to remeber Gene Banks and Mike Gminski and Jim Spanarkel but I watched the NCAA champs in ‘78 and there were plenty of people bitching about the program the following year. IT IS PART OF BEING A FAN! It doesn’t mean we dislike the coach personally or the kids but the type of players we have. I told someone this morning, it isn’t anything except the fact that we do not get the caliber of player that teams such as OSU and UNC get annually anymore. We all have a right to complain and be silly. I enjoy reading all the different threads about all subjects. How does reading something someone writes complaining our team bring people down?
Geez, I hate the fact that some of my thoughts get deleted because they are not pro-Tubby. I like reading all the threads, good and bad. Sorry if I offended anyone by not being PC.

November 30th, 2006 at 12:58 pm
Didn’t have time too read all the posts about Coury, but he does remind me of my favorite Cleveland Cavs player of all time. Ben Poquette baby, he even plays a little like him from what I’ve seen.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:00 pm
I think that at least Coury is worth a look. We need a more physical presence on the court. None of us are happy with Woo or Sheray…why not?? Nothing to lose, and might find the proverbial “something for nothing”………
November 30th, 2006 at 1:12 pm
What have we to lose giving Coury some minutes? If woo and Alleyne can get minutes, why not a Coury. Look folks, they have to absolutely shoot 60% Saturday to have a prayer. That was some serious talent on the floor last night. Bottom line, they all had the ability to put the ball in the basket under duress or not. I believe the other facets of the game takes a backseat to the scoring prowess of each team. Very scary though, last night was.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:22 pm
Sheray’s played some pretty solid defense. That’s all he needs to worry about right now. Last nights game was a track meet, and it was fairly enjoyable since I didn’t really care who won, but defensively it was ugly. UNC is giving up almost 75 points a game, and thats with games against Gardner Web (50 points) and Wintrop (66 points). If our shooters come ready we should be good to go, because last night UNC didn’t even bother to guard much past the free throw line. I guess you can do that when you score like they do, though. Shoot, if Coury can hit the 3, put him in Sat. I do wish he would go back to the goggles. If anything, it might catch a defender, or the guy he’s guarding, by surprise. Could you shoot straight with those goggles staring you down. I don’t think so.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:24 pm
Yeah but that game didn’t have interior defense…the fact that score went as high as it did affirms that. Coury though does have a sweet little jumper…if anything I want to see the floury in the first half…his size helps.
Oh and I need the light hearted ones to get me through the day…Great Job Matt.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:24 pm
UNC doesn’t necessarily score pretty, unless you count on Ellington. Wright - Hansbrough, etal get 5ft or closer little hooks etc.
I think we actually match up pretty nice, as long as Perry and Randolph can stay out of foul trouble.
I’m not worried at all about us matching them at pos’s 1-3.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:38 pm
I love reading the post on this site. Everytime I read them I get the feeling UK is number one in the polls and has not lost a game. Then I look at the top 25 and can’t find them?

We are #1! Damn media biasis.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
When does Sport Dept start Sheray’s marketing push for All-American like they did for Chuck?
November 30th, 2006 at 1:46 pm
Tag line for Sheray- All he does is foul out!
November 30th, 2006 at 1:49 pm
Not making this post negative, just continuing the prevailing theme. She-Ray - All he does is play 22 minutes without attempting a shot. A true “Team Player.”
I dont know about yall but I need more “Cowbell!” Bring on Perry Stevenson.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:53 pm
Worry about where we are ranked in February so we get a good seed in the Tourney - not so
much concerned about NOVEMBER or December for the love of God.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:54 pm
Maybe we should really hurt feelings and rank posters. OOOOOOOOOH, then you could see yourself out of the top 25.
November 30th, 2006 at 1:56 pm
don’t worry we can run the SEC Tourn and still make the dance.
November 30th, 2006 at 2:08 pm
Look people, anybody can get beaten in college basketball today. UNC lost to Gonzaga who lost to Butler. Kansas lost at home to Oral Roberts. Kentucky should be a pretty big underdog on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean the game is already decided. No fans are enjoying this down period, but we’ve just played 6 games this year.
I agree that to have a shot, we really need to come out looking really aggressive. Too many times we look like we’re not ready to play at the start of a game. There is no excuse for that no matter what the talent level is. This game is a great chance at getting back into the Top 25 and getting more exposure for the rest of the year.
November 30th, 2006 at 2:16 pm
#76, getting shots within 10 feet should be goal of every team. When you are getting those looks, I believe that means you are getting some good offensive movement. Boy, there are some tough matchups there. Remeber, Lawson spells Ellington and is fantastic with the ball. I think P.S. will get in foul trouble but I don’t think Morrris will. He isn’t a big fan of defense you know. The problem is no one can check ADD Hansbrough. I realize most teams don’t but he could go for 30 if we aren’t careful. I firmly believe Bradley AND Meeks need big game to physical up their guards. Forget about B. Perry and Thomas, they will pushed and shoved around by their big guys.
I say run it and don’t play half court against these guys. The guards are too good at penetration.
Sorry guys, talent rules in the end.
I firmly believe people see something from Thomas that I don’t. In the end, you can’t help but look at his stat line and wonder what he achieves in games, come on!
November 30th, 2006 at 2:43 pm
if we combined coury and dwight into one player, we’d have a 1 star player whos almost 13 feet tall. see tubby, knows what he’s doing.
November 30th, 2006 at 2:44 pm
#68, You must not enjoy defense very much.
November 30th, 2006 at 2:49 pm
Don’t confuse slowing the tempo with playing great defense. They’re not the same.
November 30th, 2006 at 2:50 pm
One thing I really like about Coury, he hustles. In fact, I would have no problem seeing him get some of Sheray’s minutes.
November 30th, 2006 at 3:00 pm
#89, thank you captain obvious. Don’t confuse 187 points with defense period. They don’t belong in the same sentence.
November 30th, 2006 at 3:10 pm
“One thing I really like about Coury, he hustles. In fact, I would have no problem seeing him get some of Sheray’s minutes.”
Nor would I.
Hell, I wouldn’t mind former MTV veejay *Adam* Curry getting some of Sheray’s minutes.
November 30th, 2006 at 3:19 pm
Coury will go 1-on-5 against UNC and shut down the vaunted Tar Heel offense. Reyshawn “Why waste five seconds on the shot clock looking for an ill-advised 3 when I can put one up just as easily three seconds into the shot clock” Terry will not know what hit him when The Family comes to The Hill.
Instead of Mason from the Pistons, can we get the AND 1 guy to go with us to Chapel Hill to just scream out “OH, BABY!” every time Coury devastates the Heels?
November 30th, 2006 at 3:30 pm
I know all the ESPN guys like Dickie V like to talk about Oden as the best player in college basketball…but shouldn’t we wait to see him play college basketball first?
Oh, he’ll probably be dominant, but it’s not like every High School star has become a huge success in college.
November 30th, 2006 at 3:33 pm
Before everyone throws away this season…how many SEC games have we lost? Just wondering…
I say we take the ball hard at Hansbrough with everyone. We take the ball in the paint every time down the court, and we downright force Tyler to foul. In fact, we start Dwight and Napolean and straight up mug him. LOL.
November 30th, 2006 at 3:43 pm
Where do we stand on days - so we can countdown to seeing Harris suit up!
November 30th, 2006 at 4:05 pm
He’s eligible in 16 days….
November 30th, 2006 at 4:16 pm
I have a sneaky suspicion that Mark Coury is the 2nd coming of Larry Bird and Tubby was waiting for the UNC game to unless him upon College basketball.

plus 1 in SEC tourny ( win 1 lose 1)
plus 1 in NCAA tourny( not sure if win 1 or not)
13 losses once again
November 30th, 2006 at 4:24 pm
We Vols play both the Tar Heels and the Buckeyes this year.
Yikes.
November 30th, 2006 at 4:25 pm
THE COURY THANKS YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF HIS SIX BLACK HEARTS! MY FOUR POINTS AND ONE REBOUND WERE JUST THE BEGINNING OF MY ASCENDENCY TO PEAKS OF GREATNESS! THE TARHEELS WILL COME TO TREMBLE AT THE MERE MENTION OF MY NAME AND THEIR CHILDREN WILL SING SONGS OF DREAD AND GLORY TO THE DEVASTATION THAT WAS VISITED UPON THEM BY…………………………..THE COURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 30th, 2006 at 4:34 pm
Oh Lord - he’s back.
November 30th, 2006 at 4:38 pm
YOU MAY REPLACE “Oh Lord” WITH……THE COURY! FOR I WILL BE A NEW WAY AND A NEW LIGHT FOR ALL OF YOUR LIVES.
November 30th, 2006 at 4:42 pm
Stan is really Hiro from Heroes. Good to know what are record is going to be four months in advance, now I can just sleep through the season.

Those shoes he is wearing in the pic look like the ones that are in the wire basket in the meat isle at Winn Dixie.
I wonder if he has a vote for pedro shirt on under his jersey….
November 30th, 2006 at 5:13 pm
Well, when I see Coury scored a couple baskets against College of Charleston, it takes some of the sting out of Hansbrough, Wright, and Thompson walking out there in UNC uniforms Saturday…. not.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:19 pm
Could someone post something about us missing out on Hansbrough, Wright, and Thompson again because it didn’t work in making me feel bad the last time.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:29 pm
Well if that makes you feel bad…. wait till Saturday.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:31 pm
I can always use a good kick in the cods.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:47 pm
#54 and #57 lets get back to “Dinosaurs and Disasters” and “Earthquakes and Volcanoes” or as the dude in Wang Hall calls it “Shake and Bake”. Both great classes for your future and if shake and bake was an option in ‘98 I definitely wouldv’e enrolled.
As for this thread it’s pointless to type 1000 words b/c nobody’s reading that much. We know this team is decent but it will be a bumpy road and that’s college ball these days, everyone has a squad and anyone can lose on a given night so easy on the redundancy.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:49 pm
I thought the pic of Coury was Photoshopped! Tubby needs to let him wear the goggles, ala Ed Davender in the late 80’s. WE NEED THE GOGGLES!!!
November 30th, 2006 at 5:50 pm
How can so many people excuse our deficiencies as “that’s just how college basketball is these days”?
That’s not true. In college you need a great coach that can recruit and coach. UNC was down, hired Roy and they won a title and they’re a FF favorite this year. OSU was mediocre, hired Matta and they’re a beast. Same in football, OU-Stoops, WVU-Rodriguez. In college the coach determines the fate, not some random chance events.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:52 pm
I love the “everybody else sucks too” defense. It’s most effective when typed laying on the coach with the TV remote in your hand and Cheeto crumbs wafting across your wife-beater t-shirt and you mouth-breathe raspily.
November 30th, 2006 at 5:53 pm
^”couch” not “coach”…
November 30th, 2006 at 6:02 pm
Good use of a Freudian slip
November 30th, 2006 at 6:02 pm
Maybe he meant “coach”
November 30th, 2006 at 6:05 pm
#113…How “down” was UNC really? Let us check into who it was that recruited the kids Roy won with. He coached them, for sure..And has proven he can recruit his own. But, we should also give the departed Matt D his due on that one…..
November 30th, 2006 at 6:25 pm
How down were they? DIdn’t they miss the tourney and end up below 500? Yes, Matt D could recruit but that’s where it ended. They were out of the tourney. For a UNC or UK you have to work to be excluded from the tournament.
And yes, Roy won with Doh’s players. But he has a better roster today then the one he won with. He’s got the recruiting part down as well.
November 30th, 2006 at 6:34 pm
#111.. to tell you the honest truth, i look to see if anyone said anything to #54 and #15… i dont read through any other garbage.. but i agree, Earthquakes and Volcanoes is vital to my future.. which is why im about to start a paper in that class that was due yesterday.. oh boy, cant wait for that late grade..
November 30th, 2006 at 9:40 pm
Wasn’t Roy Williams paying recruits at Kansas? Maybe that’s why he gets so many good ones…
December 1st, 2006 at 12:32 am
He wasn’t even accused of paying kids while they were there. He gave them some improper benefits after their eligibility expired. Agaist the rules, yes. Major violation no.
December 1st, 2006 at 1:34 pm
99) Stan, you misunderstood me, so let me finish the sentence as I meant it:
With all the people already talking doom and gloom, how many SEC games have we lost THIS YEAR?
We nearly beat UCLA, and they’re definitely one of the top 5 teams in the country (With UNC, Ohio St, Florida). Yes, Memphis beat us (I wouldn’t call it a blowout), but that doesn’t mean this team sucks.
We have 2 losses, one against a Top 5 team. Most of the teams people consider better than us also have at least 1 loss. If we can beat UNC, they’ll also have 2 losses, and one of them to us, an unranked team.
Remember, people, KY has a very tough non-con schedule: UCLA, Memphis, UNC, Indiana, Louisville.
Indiana is looking very tough, despite their losses.
Louisville is a major rivalry game, and those games are always tough, even if Louisville has another down year.
And our Conference schedule will include 2 games against the very good defending National Championship.
If we win against UNC, Indiana, Lousiville, and at least split with Florida, all of this early depression is going to look very silly.
