I’m surprised teachers allow to college coaches to come to their school during school hours. I feel like that would disrupt class and the student.

I thought I read that Stoops couldn’t go to high schools of kids he was recruiting in a post about Stoops touring the state recently. Is this different?

As a teacher in Kentucky, I’m kinda surprised that head coaches are allowed into schools during the day. But then again, I should be working right now instead of checking KSR…

Looks like UK is in the drivers seat on Ryan Timmons. Ohio State got another 4-star WR yesterday. That gives them one 5-star WR and two 4-star WRs for this class. Ohio State only has room for one or maybe two more recruits for this class. We are after a 5-star DB, so I doubt Urban Meyer hasyou use for a 3-star WR like Timmons any longer. He will only has talent to ride the bench for OSU, but he could be a star at Kentucky.

I might change the words “visiting Jason Hatcher” to “visiting Trinity.” As a HC, the only contact that Stoops can have with Hatcher right now is “incidental.” He wouldn’t be able to go there with the express purpose of discussing UK with him. “Incidental” is essentially defined by the NCAA as saying “hi” and “bye” as you pass each other in the hallway. To me, it would be easy enough just to change the headline……

1 & 6. Trinity has made it pretty clear that their business model has shifted from academics to athletics. Frankly, I’d be shocked if they *didn’t* let a coach in during school hours. That said, it happens everywhere. I remember Lloyd Carr and Philip Fulmer coming to St. X during the school day to recruit Bernard Jackson in 1997.

23- and got POUNDED by a Georgia Tech team that had to get a petition signed just to play in a bowl game… I dont care if it was their backup QB playing, With Lee, Woods and Redd there is no way they only score 7 points against a defense that was giving up 34 a game… Defense got shredded too!

#26 Having two sons at Trinity and spending a lot of time there myself, I can guarantee you that is not the case. Take a tour. You will see that the schools number one focus is academics and teaching morals to make fine young men.

26. As a former student and player at trinity, coaches don’t interrupt classes during the day. The recruit might be asked to go to the Student Affairs Office and meet the coach there. But generally coaches meet with recruits during lunch times, study hall periods, after classes (Like in the picture), and at workouts. As for the business model, Trinity is one of the best educations a high school male can get in the state. A small percentage of students participate in the football program, so it is an ignorant statement to say Trinity focuses on athletics rather than academics. Much like UK, the livelihood of the school, and other sports depends upon the success and revenue of the football and basketball programs to keep tuition increases minimal.

#26 It sounds like you are still as hurt from the ass kicking that Trinity has been putting on us for the last 15 or so years. Beaty has more state championships in the past 12 years than I did in my +30 years at St. X. It hurts man. Hiring a someone with only grade school coaching experience to be our new coach is going to help a lot though. Not.

I’ll point to the grammar from the posts of Trinity grads to support my point. And, 34., I’m pretty sure lunch times and study halls are during school hours, which is all I said. Lloyd Carr and Fulmer were at St. X during lunch. I’m not sure what all the butthurt stuff is about. I’m not butthurt. Trinity has told the parents of students and prospective students they are transitioning away from athletics to become a prep school for football and basketball. It’s not my opinion. Certain elite athletes at Trinity now were turned away from St. X (where they took the placement exam) because of low scores on the exam, and Trinity not only admitted them, they paid for their tuition in full, which is not a violation or anything; it’s just not the way the Catholic schools in Louisville have traditionally handled financial aid (typically they pay half, and the family has to come up with the other half). Again, this is not my opinion. The Heavy Hitter himself pays big money into a fund that is used specifically to cover the cost of tuition–for athletes. And this isn’t some conspiracy theory; it’s general knowledge. Why do you think the public schools won’t play Trinity in anything?

Hey 35, grade school is coaching experience is critical and totally qualifies me to be the St. X coach. I will be devoting all my efforts into getting St. X competitive with Trinity again. Nevermind that I am keeping my day job as a stock broker or my Sunday job as a Colt’s football announcer. I am all in baby.

Wolford is a figurehead. He was hired to basically be the face of the program. Browning Nagle and whomever handles the defense will be doing all the Xs and Os.

You are factually wrong about how the financial aid program works at Trinity. You should go to their website and do some research before spouting off. Trinity has in its charter with the Archdiocese that it will provide acedemic scholarships for poorer students. If it breaks this charter, all of its real estate revert back to the Archdiose. The idea is that Trinity will serve the community and not become an elitist school. By the way, the same schools that don’t want to play Trinity won’t play St. X either. Why is that.

And I never said they don’t provide scholarships for poorer students–provided they can play football and/or basketball. Now, they do still provide financial assistance for poorer students who don’t play sports, but by paying for athletes’ scholarships in full, they can do this for fewer non-athletes. And the public schools didn’t boycott St. X the way they did Trinity. St. X just chooses to fill their schedule with bigger name schools whereas Trinity has no choice (of course, they would do it anyway).
The tipping point re: JCPS v. Trinity came when Trinity built a football complex in the West End and hand out Trinity literature at peewee games. And I’m not just spouting off; I work at another Catholic high school in the area. Like I said, this stuff is common to knowledge to everyone, it seems, except Trinity alumni.

UKGrad04 is full of it. I have no idea why St.X fans have to come here and talk trash. “Why do you think the public schools won’t play Trinity in anything?” Ballard tried to schedule Trinity in football but Trinity had already filled their schedule. Also, study hall is at the end of the day after classes. And stop acting like St.X is the most prudent proper high school in the nation.

And what Catholic school in the area would that be UKGrad04? Also you talk about trinity accepting athletes that std turns down, which is true, but they also accept many more students besides athletes who have less than stellar placement test scores (Hence the slogan “Exceptional, Accessible”. Also, if you are so in tune with Trinity’s athletics, recruiting practices, financial aid, etc then you would know that x does the exact same stuff. Quit acting like X is perfectly clean and innocent…Try not to be so bias.

why do UK haters get on a pro UK blog site? 45 that’s funny but lets also remember Kiffin ran out of the SEC to go play mediocre talent on the west coast. And again, I think Kentucky has made it clear that we’re building a program which won’t happen overnight. Stoops is just trying to get the best talent this state has to offer, which is slim to begin with. USC is not as dominant without Pete, still a good program.
