There were a lot of great plays in last night’s rout of Ole Miss, but none quite like Kyle Wiltjer’s pick-and-roll for the slam dunk. The dunk was only Wiltjer’s fourth in 60 career games at Kentucky and it was his 26th point of the night, a new career-high. The play also sparked a Kentucky run that stretched the UK lead to 17 points in the second half.
Let’s relive the play and all its greatness…
THE SCREEN

Wiltjer caught an unsuspecting Marshall Henderson with a nasty pick to free up Julius Mays. Henderson stumbled, barely maintaining his balance, like he just finished off a 12-pack of Milwaukee’s Best at a house party and was trying to hit his Dougie in the kitchen.
THE DUNK

By show of hands, who expected Kyle Wiltjer to dunk this? If your hand is raised, you’re a liar.
This is where we typically see Kyle Wiltjer sky towards the rim and gently float the ball into the basket. Not today. No sir. This is the new Kyle Wiltjer and the new Kyle Wiltjer is wrapping two hands around the rim after he throws it down.
THE LOOK

As Wiltjer made his way back up the court, he turned to the bench to let them know he’s in the zone. ESPN cameras didn’t capture his expression, because producers were afraid it would frighten younger viewers.
THE BENCH

A few observations:
– The first guy to leave his feet, by far, was John Calipari.
– Archie Goodwin got the most elevation but his reaction time was a little behind Hood, Malone, Lanter, and Long. They had fresh legs, I guess.
– Marquis Estill’s roar is terrifying.
– Co-Passion Award Winners: Jon Hood and Tod Lanter
– Stay down, Willie. Protect that knee.

Thats a great play. Love it.
So did we lose the hatcher kid or not? I thought that would be the first news of the day, some confirmation of him commit’n or not. Instead is already the afternoon and we are still talking about basketball.
January 30th, 2013 at 12:37 pm
He looks downright quick on that play. Also, Marshall Henderson acts like opposing players’ hands are covered in poisonous thorns. Watching him pout was my favorite sporting moment since #8.

I have never seen analysis of a lesser play than this. I am I get it you guys are excited to finally win a game against a “good” team but UK is still not gonna be ranked and is still gonna get swept by florida and lose a few more it shouldnt along the way. For as pretentious as UK fans are you guys sure are getting excited over being a crappy overranked SEC team.

no wonder his favorite team is Duke. What a Flop!! Henderson did that all game, trying to get fouls (pretty much the only way he scored all night) and sometimes it worked.
January 30th, 2013 at 12:43 pm
Damn, that’s a cold ass honkey

In the words of the immortal Forrest Gump: “I liked that, I liked that a lot”

January 30th, 2013 at 12:57 pm
Well done on this post!

Good bench observations. No more comments about Kyle needing to be tougher. Also nice sharp pass from Mays leading him to the rim.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:11 pm
Awesome breakdown. Wiltjer played beast last night.
Can we also get a .gif breakdown of the Burr travel/out of bounds no-call? That was equally as epic, lol.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:14 pm
anyone else not seeing any Gifs, just the first picture?
January 30th, 2013 at 1:15 pm
Wiltjer’s performance took focus off the real story last night. Noel’s ballsack-to-block ratio was a disappointing 0.0 for the game. After ballsacking a defender in each of the last two games, one could only describe his performance last night as “not NBA-worthy”.
January 30th, 2013 at 1:16 pm
Wiltjer was beast last night and Henderson drunk some beast last night. Nice right?
January 30th, 2013 at 1:16 pm
I have been saying it all year and here I go again. If we are to make a run, Kyle Wiltjer has to lead us in scoring. He is an amazing scorer. If you put the ball in his hands every time down the floor he will make something good happen more times than not. Also, earlier in the year I said that UK needed to play zone to help cover up some of his defensive weaknesses. Cal wanted to bench him because he couldn’t guard anyone. You cannot keep your best offensive player on the bench, it is Cals job to figure out how to keep him on the floor and I think Cal has finally figured that out.

Posts like this are what make KSR great!!
January 30th, 2013 at 2:39 pm
While Kyle did have a great game, this dunk now proves he can jump. So why doesn’t he jump that high on defense? I see it all too often he doesn’t jump when a player he’s defending shoots the ball. That’s really where i’d like to see Kyle improve now along with doing what he’s been doing the past few games.
January 30th, 2013 at 2:56 pm
One of my favorite posts ever on KSR! Pretty sure I jumped higher than Archie in my living room!
January 30th, 2013 at 3:08 pm
You didn’t mention that it looked like Brian Long appreciated that dunk
January 30th, 2013 at 3:37 pm
I THINK I JUMPED HIGHER THAN ANYONE …. AND I WAS IN MY LIVING ROOM!!! THANKS FOR RELIVING IT!!!
January 30th, 2013 at 3:46 pm
I love it when Cal jumps like that
January 30th, 2013 at 4:08 pm
how much did ole miss flop last night by the way. it was sickening.
January 30th, 2013 at 4:29 pm
First, douchbag reaches and fouls Julius, then flops like a Dukee when picked. What a wanker!
January 30th, 2013 at 5:22 pm
It’s plays like these that’ll bring the team together. It’s so good to see! KSR has been getting a little .gif happy lately, I love it!
January 30th, 2013 at 5:45 pm
Geoff Dunn was up quicker and jumped higher than Cal.
January 30th, 2013 at 6:35 pm
Poythress’ on the court reaction is worth a mention, for sure. He was PUMPED, and that was as rare as books in a Syracuse basketball dorm, just a few games ago.
January 30th, 2013 at 6:52 pm
that ass clown Henderson is the biggest FLOPPER i’ve ever seen!
January 30th, 2013 at 7:11 pm
This & Nerlen’s 12 blocks are your best posts of the season, Drew. You are on fire. That gif of the bench is a beautiful thing.
January 30th, 2013 at 8:31 pm
Thanks for breaking that Kyle dunk down. I’m literally crying tears of joy.
I’ll forgive you for not ever letting me post on your live blog.

KSR this is why i love ya!
i wanna see kyles face, marquis makes me want to run for the bush!
February 1st, 2013 at 4:14 pm
It was a great play, but if you look at it real close, Kyle pushed off that kid with his left arm, why do think the kid went flying off the court..
Now, I am very happy that Kyle made the play on that smart ass punk kid. but I was very surprised kyle wasn’t called for the foul.’
February 1st, 2013 at 11:49 pm
Nope Kyle didn’t push off. One of the players said that you touch Henderson and he flops like he was shot. That’s just what happened.
