Marshall Henderson is known for two things: trash talking and three pointers. Okay, scratch that. Marshall Henderson is known for three things: trash talking, three pointers, and really unfortunate party pics. By now, you’ve surely seen the .gif file of Henderson popping his jersey to the Auburn crowd after sinking two free throws to win the game (if not, click on that link before you read another word). He’s a loud, brash, passionate player who not only doesn’t hide his emotions on the court, but embraces them. Remind you at all of this Kentucky team? No, not really. Maybe Nerlens Noel a little bit.
In today’s pre-Ole Miss press conference, Cal said that he admires Henderson’s passion on the court, comparing it to Ray Lewis’, and wishes he could see some of it in his own players:
“I love his energy and excitement about playing, he loves the game. It was a great thing Ray Lewis did and I showed the guys, he said, ‘The reason I could last this long is I love it, I love everything about it. I love the game.’ I stopped the tape, ‘Do you love playing or are you more happy when practice is over than when it starts?’ Everything I’m trying to do is get these guys to grow up fast, and the biggest thing is, get them to recognize what they’re doing, what it looks like, you have to recognize it before you can change it.”
In fact, Cal challenged his players to talk back if Henderson gets going and give the guard a taste of his own medicine:
“Oh, I’d like us to lose our composure. That’s what I’m looking for. Like, lose your composure. Get mad. Get angry. Be mad to be great. (Pretends to be moping, then getting bumped by someone) ‘Oh, sorry.’ What? Be mad. And if he talks to you, talk back to him. I mean, just be mad. Compete, fight, battle, toughness, swagger. It’s hard to have a swagger when you’re ducking and you’re running. You gotta dig your heels in. That’s why I’m saying all this stuff is good for our team. If we’re going to get it, it’s competing in games like this and learning and growing.”
We’ve seen emotion from this group in bits and pieces throughout the season, most notably against Auburn and LSU. Will this be the game that forces them out of their shells?

Good for Coach Cal, I agree. He will be running his mouth all night so you might as well throw it right back at him. I wouldn’t mind seeing this team get nasty tomorrow. Henderson deserves everything that’s coming to him.

he got on Jones for flexin on a dunk and gettin beat by his man for 2 pts in the
process. He’s askin his players to stand their ground …. I wanna see some
fire from them too, thats all this team lacks to be really good.

Gameplan is simple. He cannot guard Goodwin, who draws fouls like crazy. Attack him with Goodwin relentlessly until he gets in foul trouble.

Henderson is a punkass douchebag thug. It’s only a matter of time till he starts a brawl with brutha that don’t wanna hear his mouth any more. I hope it happens tomorrow night and he gets ejected. With all the hype surrounding this thug, i gotta believe the refs are as ready as anybody, to put a stop to it before it gets outta hand.

Goodwin and Noel both look pretty intimidating on the court in my opinion. I’m hoping Noel will let out a big yell when he blocks henderson’s shot when he comes in the lane. Archie just needs to get in his face and not let him even think about getting a decent look at the hoop.

UK’s players better come ready to compete as a team at Ole Miss, or they are going to see Henderson light them up, and he will tell them about it, and the Ole Miss fans will storm the court after.

Harrow will start out on Henderson. As a UK fan for the past 50 let me give you my number one “enforcer” to ever put on a the Blue and White–James Lee. Lee would not only regularly kick the ass of the player he was guarding, but any opposing player that stepped out of line. Mike Flynn could also shut players down.

#19 E, yeah great idea!! The Cats should just let Archie take it to the rack over and over so his selfishness can give UK ANOTHER “L” because of his lack of decision making skills. UK should try that since they have done so well in the past just letting Archie go… ha ha ha. You must not have watched him play this year. Until he changes his attitude, Archie will lead UK no where but the NIT. I think you have part of it right. Archie is the key, but it will be his defense that will make or break the Cats in this game, not his offense. Having said that, when the light finally does come on for Goodwin, he will be a game changer on both ends of the floor. One of these days he will understand that if his team isn’t any good, it doesn’t matter if he scores 20 a game. Just ask Julius Mays. He could have been the man at Wright St. but he chose to come to UK where he had a chance to be part of a real team. Unfortunately, until Goodwin figures this out, Mays will be a mediocre player on a mediocre team along with Goodwin.
