This is a photo of Alex Montgomery immediately after he committed to play football for the University of Kentucky.
What a day it has been for Kentucky football recruiting and it’s only going to get better as the week rolls on.

January 28th, 2013 at 4:17 pm
Why dey waring showts? don dey no it cold ou side?
January 28th, 2013 at 4:18 pm
WOOO what a day! Just remember folks, it might be 2-3 years before these highschool guys bulk up enough to have huge impacts in the games. Most frosh are redshirted and dont play until their R-So or R-Jr years. Let’s LET THEM GROW and be patient! No rioting if we start 1-3 or something next season! Football is a much more dynamic and long-term process for rebuilding.

Was this today or this weekend when he actually committed??
January 28th, 2013 at 4:22 pm
#5…I played as a freshman and did pretty good…The best freshman of today play right away…Signed , Randall Cobb
January 28th, 2013 at 4:27 pm
I am not trying to be snarky, but I am curious how we are thinking we are going that great when we are only ranked #52 in the team recruiting rankings? Is it because there’s so much more to come?
January 28th, 2013 at 4:27 pm
Sorry 7, but you show why our (basketball) fanbase is still ignorant on football. Cobb was the exception, not the rule. And, in case you still don’t understand, how many SEC championships did Cobb play for? Just sayin, this ain’t basketball, and a football team needs developed men, not freshmen boys. #5 was spot on.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:32 pm
8, our rankings are skewed right now because we only have 17 commits (one of which – Borden – hasn’t been evaluated yet so is a 0), and Rivals ranks teams according to their top 20 commits.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:36 pm
#7 – Maybe at Kentucky they do, but not at other schools in the SEC. How many true freshman played for Alabama in the championship game? Point being our freshman may play but it doesn’t mean that will lead to on field results right away even with a big talent upgrade. It will take time no matter how good our class ends up being.
Think Randall would have played as a true freshman at Alabama, LSU, or Florida? Maybe a little but not nearly as much as he did at UK.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:36 pm
If that is the inside of UK Football offices, then they need to ask for even more money to remodel the offices, get rid of the particular board cheap desks, so they don’t look like a 2nd grade class room. Those office chairs look like they found them in an alley. Seriously, buy some real blinds.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:41 pm
He is hugging his HS coach and that is his HS’s football office.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:42 pm
whose the fat little firehead on the left?
January 28th, 2013 at 4:42 pm
#9 true they are rare but how about you be excited for what is beginning at UK instead of pissing all over it. You a closet UL fan? I understand as any football fan would that it takes time to get guys up to speed however be excited for what has started in the Bluegrass. Either way it will be better than Joker years. And #7 is correct…great Freshman do play right away i.e. Cooper at Alabama, ever heard of him?
January 28th, 2013 at 4:45 pm
#5…very true. However, in Montgomery’s case he may be needed right away due to depth issues. Also, he has the body to head out there now.
#8…If you look at the avg star rating, we are around 35…just lower in #’s than some.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:48 pm
#8 – wait until Hearns, Timmons and say Badet commit to give us 20. We’ll jump up into the 30s most likely. And Rivals does give weight to the number of verbals. An overlooked indicator is our average star ranking…which is currently 3.06. Vandy’s is just a notch above at 3.11, but they have what, the 16th ranked class?
January 28th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
UofL top 30 by average star rating. keep trying to catch us big sister
January 28th, 2013 at 4:51 pm
The program is trending UP, all I was saying is that it takes collegiate football players at least 2 or 3 years before they make an impact in the SEC. This is the SEC we’re talking about, folks. Players sit on the bench at ‘Bama for 3 years then get drafted in the 1st rd after starting 1 season. That’s how it goes with football in the SEC.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:52 pm
But yes, our frosh will play b/c of depth issues. But they’ll be playing against grown men who have gone thru the rigors of SEC football for a couple years. We will shine in 2015!!!!
January 28th, 2013 at 4:54 pm
18 – UK is much higher if you are changing the rules to average star rating. (I would change the rules too if I were ranked #65). UL at 3.08. UK at 3.06. Once Hearns commits (4-star) we should leap frog UL in that category as well.

Did Coach Stoops stop by to see him on the way to a funeral? Get that man some blue!
January 28th, 2013 at 7:53 pm
Props on the Godfather poster. Never take sides against the family.
January 28th, 2013 at 8:32 pm
Kentucky jump 12 places with 2 commitments. That’s pretty good considering we have 8 more spots and multiple 4 star talents that we are in good position with. At the end of the day it has the potential to be a top 30 possibly top 25 recruiting class
January 28th, 2013 at 8:42 pm
For those that say true freshman can’t make an immediate impact here are two names for you! TJ Yeldon and Hershell Walker! Also, Georgia had a kid this year but I can’t recall his name!
January 28th, 2013 at 8:43 pm
And those are just ones that came to mind!
January 28th, 2013 at 9:38 pm
Welcome Alex!!
January 29th, 2013 at 8:10 am
A kid that wears shoes like that has got to be tough!! Can’t wait to see this guy light a receiver up!!! Or a running back doesn’t matter… I know the UK defense will be much improved because of Stoops and the talent he has brought. I also know the offense will be much improved with Neal Brown and the playmakers he has coming in… I don’t know how many SEC wins the Cats will get but they should be able to beat the “lesser” schools like UofL and western. GO CATS!!! Man I am diggin’ those shoes!!
Loserville fans like to brag about their sugar bowl victory over Florida… well have you ever went to a dance and saw the girl you were supposed to go with dancing with someone else? It would make you a lot less enthusiastic about the date you did take… i.e. Florida playing a “lesser” school like uofl.
