It has been a very busy and exciting day for fans of Kentucky athletics. Let’s get right to it…
— We kicked off our Monday by bidding adieu to Keith Kelsey Jr., who chose to take his talents to Louisville over the University of Kentucky. The loss wasn’t a devastating one, though, as we await what will hopefully be good news from James Hearns, a better linebacker from Florida. Hearns visited over the weekend and he’s expected to commit soon.
Some UK fans have been hard on Kelsey for donning the UK hat before switching to the red one, but, to me, that’s just a kid having fun with his announcement. It’s good for the rivalry and I don’t think any of us would have a problem with Jason Hatcher doing the same thing — in favor of Kentucky, of course.
— Louisville didn’t have the lead for long in Monday’s recruiting showdown; it was only five hours after Kelsey’s commitment that Alex Montgomery, a wide receiver from South Florida, evened the score by picking Kentucky over Louisville. Montgomery isn’t a top priority at receiver in this class – Ryan Timmons and Jeff Badet are 1 and 2 — but he’s still a great talent on the outside and one who will get some looks next season. SoFlaFootball called him one of the 25 best talents in the south Florida, and then there is this:
— Oh, we’re not done. Kentucky also just landed a commitment from one of the top 200 recruits in America, Marcus McWilson. McWilson told Justin Rowland the SEC was a huge selling point. He said, “I want to beat the best. You have to play the best to beat the best.”
This is the biggest commitment of the class so far and it just further proves that Stoops can reel in talent we’re not used to seeing in Lexington. This is only the beginning, folks.
— What do you think about all this, Bud Dupree?

Get excited!
— Switching over to basketball, Kentucky and North Carolina agreed to a two-year home-and-home series beginning in Chapel Hill next season. Calipari said the series would be renewed in 2013, so the news isn’t all that surprising. Deal with it, Hoosiers.
— Kentucky is still unranked in both college basketball polls. Michigan is now the top team in the AP poll, while Kansas is atop the USA Today Coaches poll. Louisville fell to No. 12/13 after suffering a third straight loss over the weekend and Ole Miss jumped up to No. 16.
— Calipari met with the media this afternoon to discuss tomorrow night’s game against the Rebels in Oxford. He reiterated what he said on the SEC teleconference by saying Willie Cauley-Stein will travel but he’s doubtful for the game. They’ll see how he holds up in practice today.
— Cal also said he wants to see his team lose its composure against Marshall Henderson and Ole Miss. He said he wants to see his players get mad and get angry. ”If he talks to you, talk back,” he said of Henderson. No ducking and running; dig those heels in and fight back, he says. Ryan Harrow said Archie Goodwin will have the assignment of containing Henderson.

Considering all henderson does is shoot 3s, and only make 35% of 11 attempts, he is not as good as he is made out to be.

That young lady is just about the perfect height for Willie! No wonder he’s smiling.

Hope Nerlens steeps the tea across Hendersons face. Also great recruiting news…. Come on down Hatcher and Hearns!!
January 28th, 2013 at 3:52 pm
“I don’t think any of us would have a problem with Jason Hatcher doing the same thing.”
… just as long as he has the hats reversed!

After we beat Ole Miss and tex AM, a great weak? With the #1 recruiting class, why would we not expect to beat these 2 pansies…sickening, how far we have fallen from #3 at preseason. and lets all get happy, we got 2 3* recruits, while everyone else probably got 5 5*’s today…
Great week

All Goodwin really needs to do to flummox Henderson is pressure him and make him shoot off-balance. Sure some of his crazy shots will go in, but if he’s feeling pressure and his shots are altered because of it, and Noel can hold his own against Buckner, we should be able to win.

Sports website. We all were thinking the same thing. Dont even lie.
January 28th, 2013 at 3:58 pm
@ 8:
Marcus McWilson is a 4* recruit and a hell of a commitment.
January 28th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
This is Archie’s chance to win people back. Take the fight to Henderson. Don’t force your offense, but get in his face and frustrate Henderson on defense.
January 28th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
Gottdweeb called the radio show? I thought he bitch buttoned Drew?
January 28th, 2013 at 4:03 pm

January 28th, 2013 at 4:08 pm
WCS must have had a small meniscus
tear that they trimmed away…
Why won’t they tell us so we
don’t worry. Darn HIPAA
January 28th, 2013 at 4:09 pm
Two things. 1) The recruits we got are great, but let’s not forget it takes most frosh 2-3 years to produce in college football, not anything like bball. 2) Ryan HARROW on Henderson?? We need a combo of Archie/Polson. This is your chance, Archie..
January 28th, 2013 at 4:11 pm
@ 17: It says Archie will be on Henderson, not Harrow.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:18 pm
tip toes Willie, tip toes.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:19 pm
@ 18: it says Ryan Harrow and Archie Goodwin will draw the assignment on Henderson.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:24 pm
I am not sure if I am comfortable with Harrow on Henderson!
January 28th, 2013 at 4:30 pm
it says Goodwin!!!
January 28th, 2013 at 4:31 pm
WCS looks like a Duke guy in this picture.
January 28th, 2013 at 4:33 pm
@ 20: No, it clearly states that Goodwin will have the assignment:
Ryan Harrow said Archie Goodwin will have the assignment of containing Henderson.

#25 – name caller
#26 – hypocrite
January 28th, 2013 at 5:50 pm
#8 Maybe you should learn a little about Football recruiting before you judge. Accordong to ESPN, there are only 11 % star football players available this year. I think that probably rules out anyone signing 5 in one day. Nor for the whole recruiting season.
January 28th, 2013 at 5:51 pm
Aren’t there any beautiful black women in Lexington. Only white girls want to pose with players?
January 28th, 2013 at 8:09 pm
Turn around WCS! I need to see what brand that backpack is!
January 28th, 2013 at 8:54 pm
You would think Drew would know how to link the podcast by now! smh!
January 28th, 2013 at 10:38 pm
I’m not sure how many people are like me, but I’ve found myself skimming headlines to find the football recruiting updates and skipping right by the bball articles.
Go Stoops!
