Kentucky’s 2013 football recruiting class has a new wide receiver and his name is Alex Montgomery. Montgomery committed to Mark Stoops and the Wildcats via Twitter this afternoon. Montgomery chose the Cats over Louisville.
He’s a three-star prospect and the No. 51 receiver in the country according to Rivals.com.
Welcome aboard.
I made my decision and I’m going to Kentucky #BBN WELCOME

Nice! Anybody know the spread for tomorrow vs Ole Miss?
January 28th, 2013 at 2:10 pm
no “psyche” tweet?
January 28th, 2013 at 2:12 pm
UL fans – We didn’t want him anyway.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:12 pm
I must admit, 5 years and 15 wins living in beautiful Lexington is better than 5 years and 19 wins living in that dump they call Louisville.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:13 pm
STOOPS! Love it. Welcome to UK Alex.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:15 pm
Where is he from?
January 28th, 2013 at 2:17 pm
keep in mind their are ranks amongst 3*s. not all are created equal, and this kid was a borderline 4*. i can’t paste the link to his highlight tape, but google “hudl alex montgomery highlights” and you’ll see the kid catches everything, and is thought highly of by local media.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:19 pm
Nice pick up for Stoops. Go UK.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:21 pm
Kid is a quality recruit, blew up in post season, I think had 9 catches and 199 yards in one game, still reports of more good news for later.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:22 pm
21 you are insane. Lexington is nowhere near as dirty as Louisville. Hell just this year Louisville was named the 16th dirtiest city in the country by Forbes.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:26 pm
Riiiiiiiight…
January 28th, 2013 at 2:29 pm
WELCOME young man!!
January 28th, 2013 at 2:30 pm
Eat it Strong! That’s three recruits Stoops has outrecruited Strong for.
January 28th, 2013 at 2:34 pm
I know why Matt Jones pisses off the UL fans so much now.
Because they come on this site to post comments. Do they not understand that Matt gets paid for every visit to this site? All of the UL trolls are padding his pockets!
Sucks to be little bro. And Louisville is extremely dirty, it’s a train wreck. That’s probably why the Yum Center is going to make that city go bankrupt
January 28th, 2013 at 2:39 pm
This kid is more of a H back. He appears to be stronger and more physical than a typical WR. Brown probably sees him as a much more offense threat than a typical blocking tight end.

I just went down New Circle on the east side. You know what it looks like?? SOUTHWEST JEFFERSON COUNTY lol. At least half of Lexington is a dump. I’m sorry but I have to be honest. I do think Lexington is a better city simply because of a lower crime rate and slightly better school. But beside UK Lexington has nothing going for it.

Wow!! Another unknown recruit? Even Joker got lots of these guys. And the beat goes on!!!!!!!!!!
Stoops – 3 and out!

18 every city has bad parts. The difference between Louisville and Lexington is that Louisville has three times as much filth as Lexington. Southwest Jefferson County is actually pretty compared to the east side at night (better watch out for the East Side gang). You must stay on the east side of New Circle if you don’t think Lexington is pretty. You must’ve never visited Keeneland, or any of the other major thoroughbred farms here. Churchill Downs is a dump compared to Keelenland. Our water and air are both cleaner too, so I’ll stay here an enjoy good health. You go there if you think it’s better. Also its one of the most obese cities in the country, so enjoy all the lard walking around.

Is it true that he originally put on a u of l hat before saying “as if, talk to the hand Louisville” before switching to a uk hat?
January 28th, 2013 at 2:58 pm
solid pickup. espn sees him more as a TE. so, overall a top 25 TE FR recruit. slighty ranked higher than borden & badet & dowdell on espn.
8 spots left.
mcwilson, timmons, hatcher, hearns, badet, kemp, who else?
January 28th, 2013 at 3:09 pm
11- you are correct. He also had 3 TDs that game. Everyone in his area of Florida is saying its a home run and a steal. This kid is under rated, much like Cobb was. Hope he fits in well in the air raid offense, he has excellent hands. Stoops, there it is!

GREAT PICKUP— IMO THE BIGGEST STEAL FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA!
Breakdown:
I honestly can’t put into words how big of a commitment this is for Kentucky in regards to landing Cypress Bay athlete Alex Montgomery. This kid can simply do it all from an athletic standpoint. I can honestly say the biggest steal in Florida I’ve seen so far. Just to let you guys know Alex plays in the highest classification in Florida and flat dominated the 8A State Finals against a good Apopka team. I believe he had over 200 yards receiving, two touchdowns in that game, including two one handed grabs in the end zone. He also had an interception in that game.
As a receiver he’s a very strong route runner in not rounding off his routes but sticking them and hitting his acceleration much quicker than most receivers in state I would have to say. It’s not hard to tell by watching his film for the next five minutes that you will see his best attribute is probably his hands. I call him “Spiderman” because when it touches his hands it’s like a Web hit the ball. He doesn’t drop anything. He’s a physical receiver that gets his separation off route running and yards after the catch with his ability to fight through tackles. Very tough to bring down but has good quickness but his speed is up there too. But the quickness is what is the most attractive quality from him after the catch. I was on hand personally to see this kid in the State Finals and even attended several of his games as a junior. He’s one of the best in the State but not many people knew about him early on because it was uncertain if he would qualify. His grades got better during the year and he’s good to go now.
On defense he’s the best at free safety in my opinion because he’s physical in laying a huge hit but at the same time athletic enough to cover the middle of the field like an outfielder in baseball. Can cover a ton of ground and has some of the longest arms, which cuts down on the passing window. No question guys one of the best athletes in the State of Florida. Very impressed with this pick up. Kentucky has some good pick-ups like Khalid Thomas, who is from my Alma in Godby High school in Tallahassee and clearly Zadarius Smith at DE. But this one I think is bigger from a skilled position stand point.

the kid can play!

Why can’t we just let the player announce? Had more false announcements this year?! No wonder they all call pressers, that’s the only way to not get trumphed on your own announcement. Good pick-up.
January 28th, 2013 at 3:27 pm
Wooohoo! Keep em coming Stoops!
January 28th, 2013 at 3:40 pm
This Louisville v Lexington argument is silly. THEY’RE DIFFERENT PLACES. I grew up in Louisville, went to UK and lived there 4 years after graduating and have now moved back. I am a lifelong, diehard UK fan.
THEY’RE BOTH GREAT PLACES TO LIVE. They offer different things.
Does it really do Kentucky better to truly have either city actually be the garbage you all are trying to make them out to be? Louisville is a major tourist draw for KY and generates a lot of money for the state. But Lexington and the surrounding Bluegrass are too.
We are better as a Commonwealth if both cities are growing, progressing and improving.
Go BIG BLUE!

This kid is a beast!! He excelled against very good competition, and I grew up in Looserville, still have family in looserville, and it does suck… Lexington ROCKS!!!!
