Former Kentucky head coach and godfather of the Air Raid offense, Hal Mumme has landed a new gig. According to Pete Roussel of @CoachingSearch, Mumme will join James Madison’s staff as offensive coordinator.
Mumme was previously the head coach at Division-III McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. He posted an 0-10 record in his first season as coach of the Warhawks in 2008. Last season the team moved to Division-II, participating in the Heartland Conference and Mumme led the team to an 8-3 record, winning the CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl. It was McMurry’s first bowl game in 63 years.
James Madison participates in Division-IAA (FCS) of the NCAA and is coming off a 7-2 season under long-time head coach Mickey Matthews. In 2010 James Madison became only the second FCS team to beat a nationally-ranked team when they knocked off No. 13 Virginia Tech at Lane Stadium in front of 66,000 fans.
There is currently no offensive coordinator listed on James Madison’s coaching staff website.

Agree with Oscar The Great Combs: despite the way it ended with Mumme at UK, if the current staff takes us to the greener pastures we’re all hoping for, a tip of the hat to Hal for ultimately giving us Neal Brown.

McMurray University. CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl. The guy is a winner. He gets it. Another miss by Barnhart. Should have hired him back. This Stoops guy is another Billy Gillispie type of hire. But who knew Mumme was looking? The freaking Godfather of the Air Raid Offense. He more than likely would have chosen head coach of UK over offensive coordinator at James Madison. Just another example of UK Athletic Department ineptness. And so what if Shabazz’s parents bought him a thousand dollar Gucci backpack. This is America.

#4 Stoops is another Gillispie? This judgement is made on the basis of what? You understand that he put together the #2 defense in the country last year at FSU, don’t you? You understand that he has elevated our recruiting to a new, previously unthinkable level, don’t you? Mumme is a winner. He is also a guy who put us on probation, too.

Can we stop posting crap about Hal Mumme. Who cares about him. The guy was an idiot as a football coach. Mike Majors, Fraud Basset yeah those guys were great coaches he had. I especially loved when he used to go for it on 4 and 10 on our own 30 yard line.

7. Idiot? More like innovator.

I just wonder what ever happened to Bassett and Majors? I bet they are coaching in the Super Bowl this weekend as the eating contest DC’S. This guy is a joke and where ever he lands there will be drama! Read Tony Franklin’s book as it tells the truth about these bunch of Hillbillies!

Hal Mumme would still be the coach if he hired A DCoord with ANY sense….and would have had Sandy Bell fire Basset….he took an offense from Lavell Edwards and changed football into what it is today….just look @ how many coaches are tethered to him and lineage it developed……INNOVATOR!
