2014 PG Tyus Jones was in Rupp when the Cats lost to Texas A&M a few weeks ago, but despite the loss, he had nothing but great things to say about his time on campus in a blog post on USA Today’s high school website. Jones said he spent time with the team and Cal, which is “always cool,” and that the atmosphere inside Rupp was “pretty intense and I like that.”
Best of all was Tyus’ interaction with an elderly UK fan, who did her best to convince him to become a Cat:
When I got back to the hotel that night I ran into this older lady and she was telling me about how she took her grandkids to the game earlier that day. Then she asked me what I was down there for and I told her that I was a recruit visiting the campus. When I said that she started to ask more questions and then she said that her son was telling her that a recruit was gonna be on campus that weekend. Then it hit her that I was the guy that her son was talking about. So she got a little more excited and started telling me about why I should come there and how much she loved Coach Cal and things like that. It was so cool to see how passionate this older woman was about Kentucky basketball. I don’t think I’ve ever been recruited by a grandmother before. It just showed me how big the program is to its fans. I love that.

#1, HA! I would be more worried about Emmert sniffing up granny’s skirt if they weren’t already “investigating the investigators”.

Reminds me of one time I was waiting to get my haircut. This was before Nerlens Noel committed to Kentucky. I was listening to two middle-aged women and a female senior citizen talk about Noel, the high school he played for, his playing style, and what a huge recruit he would be for the program. That sums up BBN better than anything else I have experienced.

I am a son of the Most Valuable Granny. I am proud of her encouraging Tyus to act in his best interest and the best interest of the Commonwealth. My daughters, Kate Bradley (12), Madeline (13) and Abby (8)were with Tyus in the hottub at the Hyatt. They said Tyus was very nice and they hope he comes to Kentucky. Tyus asked Madeline who her favorite UK player was and she said Archie Goodwin.
