Nice win for the Cats tonight as they pull out a victory 77-61 over the College of Charleston. The beginning of the game was ugly and the rest was so-so, but the Cats won by a relatively comfortable margin. Perry Stevenson and Randolph Morris showed muscle inside and were the offensive leaders of the team. Plus Martin Newton said the word p*ss. So all in all a good night. More to come, including the beginnings of the COURY FLURRY!!!!

Coury scored!!!!!! Other than that it’s a W, I guess.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:26 pm
Wait…you can’t forget the great video of Dave Baker and Rockin Rob Bromley from about 1976. Martin New has managed to say “P*ss” and “Hell I don’t” know in only a handful of Big Blue Network(foxsports) broadcasts.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
My goodness, I didn’t get to watch this game because I was reffing a Graves County vs. Murray middle school game, but I almost predicted the score, I said 77-60 and it was 77-61!
Sounds like Morris and Stevenson dominated the inside and the defense was much improved.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:30 pm
I am just happy they came out with a “W.” After reading posts on here, you guys had me scared shirtless…I really thought that the Cats might be in trouble with CC.
Why was it again that Stevenson was yanked from the starting line up? I know bball is not huge in Canada, but come on, Suger Sharey has got to be better than he showed tonight….right??
Impressed once again with Morris and the Freshmen class. Defense was improved in spurts as was rebounding, but it will be interesting to see how many pts in the paint UNC scores and the rebounding margin.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:31 pm
Coury scored more in 20 seconds than Sherays 20 minutes.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:34 pm
Stevenson should be the starter. Period!
November 28th, 2006 at 9:35 pm
Coury has better hair. Helps on the jump shot.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:37 pm
i think stevenson didn’t start because of some questions about the stability of his injured ankle…it apparently didn’t bother him!
November 28th, 2006 at 9:37 pm
Porter has been a pleasant suprise. I like Jasper,Stevenson in instead of Bperry and Sheray
November 28th, 2006 at 9:39 pm
his ankle isn’t an issue
November 28th, 2006 at 9:40 pm
I would like to see Coury get more minutes to see what he’s got.
Coury - 2min = 4pts
Sheray - 26min = 2pts
Woo - 7min = 0pts
Carter - 8min = 1pt
November 28th, 2006 at 9:40 pm
If we could replace this senior class, with a solid incoming class it would make a world of difference for next year.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:55 pm
#11, maybe Coury’s ole man, is for real, when talking about his boy’s game. Big Body and he seems fairly cordinated for his size. I hope if he deserves more time, that he recieves it.
November 28th, 2006 at 9:57 pm
Give me Jasper and Stevenson on the floor until they are grabbing their shorts for air. They need all the minutes they can get Frosh or not. You earn your time and Perry, Thomas and Woo simply aren’t earning it. Simple as that. This seniority stuff has got to go when it’s getting in the way of what’s best for the team. I mean really what has Thomas every really did for this team on the floor in game situations? I just don’t get it. Is their some sort of voodoo logic out their that’s escaping me?
November 28th, 2006 at 9:57 pm
I wish Rekalin Sims had stayed, and Sheray Thomas had left!
November 28th, 2006 at 9:59 pm
I also hope he doesnt see this thread, because Im sure he’s a nice guy…. eh.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:01 pm
The Thomas, Perry, and Woo experiment should as of right now officialy be over. Go with the young guys, including Carter. He is NOT ready but isn’t any worse then WOO, and might actually benefit from playing extended minutes.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:04 pm
Guys, is it possible to do one thread without bashing people?
November 28th, 2006 at 10:05 pm
Perry is definately in a slump but don’t count him out. His leadership and positive attitude means alot to this team. He is like what Bettis was to the Steelers last year!
Woo has shown some ability to contribute, but like he said about himself, He isn’t going to improve any more than he already has. You are what you are and Woo is an average backup big man.
Carter and Thomas have yet to show anything there entire careers. They really need to step it up and start contributing more in the games. I don’t know what needs to happen with these two guys but it better change soon or they will not see much of the floor the rest of the season.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:06 pm
I am of the opinion that it IS time for the Freshman to play. IF they do this early they may be ready
at tournament time. If they do not get a lot of playing time it will be an elite 8 at best!
November 28th, 2006 at 10:12 pm
There have been alot of good looking high lights from the ACC-Big 10 Challenge. I would think Illinois is a tough gym to play in. EVERYONE in the gym has on an orange shirt (just an idea for UK, maybe Blue?) but Maryland stepped up and won that game. I can’t wait for the SEC - Big East challenge! It would be awesome to see an early season matchup between UK and a team like Pitt, Georgetown, or Syracuse.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:12 pm
I agree with giving Jasper and Stevenson as many minutes as possible, but dont be so hard on Perry. Thomas got entirely too many minutes tonight. (The stats prove it) I dont mind the minutes Woo got as much. (It was only 7min and if we do a small kick out to him I think he would actually get more points out of him) But you guys have to give Perry a break. Unlike the other two, he has shown up at times(big) in his career. Especially when we needed him most. (March Madness anyone?) I dont know whats going on with his game this year, but he still has it in him. He just needs a bit more of a confidence boost or something. But if others are outperforming him at the moment, we need to play those guys.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:14 pm
I think the thumb injury with Perry may be bigger than we all think. It has to affect his shooting and ball handling.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:16 pm
Good Lord, Florida beat the crap out of a team 83-27 I believe, Is Southern a D-1 team?
Alabama beat LA-Monroe as well without Steel.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:17 pm
Matt, we have 3 seniors that have played in this system for 3 seasons that still look completely lost on the court the majority of the time they are out there. And if they have not figured out what to do by now it isn’t going to happen. That’s why the young guys should get their minutes because there is still hope for them. If that is bashing I am sorry, I thought it was just reality!
November 28th, 2006 at 10:24 pm
#22 I don’t disagree with throwing Woo a bone for 6 to 10 minutes a game and judge it from there on how hard he’s playing that night.
Perry gave us some of solid games where when we needed them most down the stretch last year and I’ve not forgotten that, but you can’t use that as your basis for continuing to playing them ahead of someone outperforming them this year. It’s not like he dominated for 3 years and now it’s his team. With that said, I think he’s the most likely of the three to break out and start playing well and I hope he does as I’ve actually been a fan of his despite my argument for cutting back on his playing time. I just want to see the best team possible on the floor at all times whatever that combination that is at the time.
As for Thomas… I’m sure he’s a nice guy… How’s that Matt…
November 28th, 2006 at 10:41 pm
IU vs. PUKE 45-45 w/ 11:45 to go in the game.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:42 pm
Oops. 40-40 IU/PUKE.
November 28th, 2006 at 10:47 pm
Matt, I have been a Wildcat fan since I even understood that there was the Kentucky Wildcats( since 1969) and I am afraid that the natives are getting restless to the point that the AD is going to have to do something after this year or the fans will be outside his office door.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:15 pm
#29 You’ve got some years on me, but I’m turning 32 on day of the IU game and I have followed the Cats since my dad introduced me to this boy wonder named Macy who ran the show like nobody’s business and could actually shoot a free throw. My point is this native has been around for a while too and I have never posted on any of the UK boards before tonight. I’ve lurked on Rivals and Cats Pause for years while I just discovered this site a few weeks ago. Great site by the way, Matt. Back to my point, even the most ardent, patient supporters have had about all they can take of the same old song and dance. I have always been the optimistic, half-full fan that is getting beat down with defending this coach and team the last few years. I have NO FRIENDS left who defend this staff anymore in Pike County. If this years team doesn’t turn things around I think some MAJOR change is in order. As a fan I don’t feel that’s unfair. Matt, I’ve read your guidelines on postings and I apologize if crossed the line for bashing. It was not meant that way.
Now let’s hope somewhere between now and Saturday there is some sort of ephiphany and we see everything come together and we can thump UNC like the year Tayshaun went off on them.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:18 pm
If John Hollinger of ESPN.com did his PER (player efficiency ratings) for college players, Mark Coury would probably be the greatest player in the history of college basketball. If you project his 4 points in one minute average out over the course of an entire game, that’s a 160 ppg average.
Of course, that’s like me bragging that I was the best middle school shooter in the state during when I was in 7th grade during the ‘94-’95 season because I was 1-1 from 3. But we’ve all got to find something to hang our hats on.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:20 pm
I think the fans expectations for Bobby Perry are unfair. The guy is an effort guy, he’ll bust out a couple of times during the season, but most nights he’ll give you effort. You need guys like that. But don’t forget, his big games were by far the exception not the rule.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:26 pm
UNC KICKS OUR TAILS BIG TIME ON NATIONAL T.V.another nail in tubs coffin.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:26 pm
Martin was right. Stevenson definitely got away with a piss down on the block.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:31 pm
Doug,
I also hold that “record” for my own 7th grade team in ‘95-’96, on a banked-in three no less.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:36 pm
Was it just me or was anyone else impressed with Carter’s post move?
They called a walk but it was impressive either way.
We have not had a big man move like that down on the blocks in a while.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:38 pm
Just a positive note from the big league…Chuck Hayes led the Rockets with 11 boards tonight in a win over Minnesota.
November 28th, 2006 at 11:47 pm
I agree with #23. I think Perry’s thumb is a bigger deal than we know.
November 29th, 2006 at 12:16 am
If you think Chucky leading in rebounds was good, check out his lenovo stats.
November 29th, 2006 at 9:01 am
Jasper, Bradley, Crawford, Stevenson and Morris starters. These are your best players to begin a game with, especially when in need of a good start against a great UNC team. All of these guys bring something to the table. I am sorry fellas, 42 minutes from Perry and Thomas getting 9 points and 8 rebounds combined is unacceptable. Thomas’ minutes should be cut in half and give those minutes to Meeks and Carter. I know Meeks makes you small but he is a threat with the ball. Carter is limited in skills but I firmly believe his bulk will be needed against a large frontline at UNC. hELL, THROW A BONE TO cOURY INSTEAD OF WATCHING tHOMAS STAND AROUND AND WATCH REBOUNDS GO TO THE FLOOR.
November 29th, 2006 at 9:31 am
#32, I think Bobby Perry’s expectations of Bobby Perry are unfair. You can tell that he’s believing his own hype and shooting with reckless abandon, while totally disregarding the little things he’s actually good at. What’s worse, he’s a senior and considered the “leader”, which will allow him tons of room to keep gunning all year long. Let’s hope he finds his broke shot sometime before March.
Anybody remember Chuck Hayes’ obligatory broke 3-point attempt per game his senior year? Same thing going on with Bobby. Shot fake at 3-point line, two to three dribbles right, pull up, shooting while not squared to the basket, ball either arching flat or barely grazing the front of the rim.
November 29th, 2006 at 10:15 am
41, what I was saying is that the guy simply isn’t as good as some wanted to believe after the tourney last year. HE still needs to be agressive witht he ball. I’d rather have him too aggressive then not even a threat(much like Sheray who doesn’t even looking to be thinking of taking a shot). I predict he’ll have a nice stretch somewhere along the season where he scores and plays good ball. I just don’t think he’s the stud that some wanted us to believe.
