Well I am glad about the news with Jason Hatcher at least on this Wednesday…
Did you run before this show? Uncle Matt are you using a treadmill or elliptical? It will be lake season soon! I personally use elliptical. I burn more calories.
Any more news with Mayor Gray and Rupp? Lexington population has gone over 300,000 at 301,900.
January 23rd, 2013 at 9:58 am
Goodwin just got blocked in the lane again.
January 23rd, 2013 at 9:59 am
Hey Matt, Please make mention today that most of the team was at a frat party on Sunday night getting hammered until after 3am. Probably not the best decisions a team in search of W’s could be making. This team is all about bad decisions.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:00 am
I’ll start this show thread off right. Alex Poythress is a woman. He should be playing for UK Hoops.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:01 am
Hell yes for FB recruiting news in January! Opposite for 12-6 in Bball.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:01 am
Anyone else disgusted with Goodwin shooting too much and wished that Poythress would play with that unselfishness? Then maybe he would be the player we thought he was going to be!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:02 am
I wonder what Poythress thinks while he sits on the bench for making an ill-advised pass and watches Archie Goodwin, turn the ball over, get beat off the dribble, and drive to the basket falling to the ground, getting blocked?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:02 am
I hate to say it but I agree with number 4, well, just his direction. As I too can not tolerate Archie’s erratic play every night.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:02 am
Archie is the most selfish and undisciplined player I have seen at Ky in a long while.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:04 am
Here at Kentucky we don’t remember NIT teams. The NIT is unacceptable.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:04 am
@9 I agree. Hope he enjoys riding the pine in the NBA, as much as I hate to say it.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:05 am
It’s nice to know that I am matt’s radio grandmother.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:05 am
Matt, I know this is old news but I never get to call in. Is it true that Ashanti Woullard recruited himself to UK but Joker and his staff never contacted him back??
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:05 am
Matt, I hope you come out and call a spade a spade. Goodwin is selfish and a team killer. And Harrow was Goodwin Jr last night, also. Nevermind that Wiltjer and Mays were hitting perimeter shots. We gots to get ours!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:06 am
Goodwin is shooting 10% from three. 10 FREAKIN PERCENT!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:06 am
@2 – and still trying to get up off the floor after complaining about a foul and rolling around for a minute!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:06 am
3) I will back that up as well. have friends with pics. When does football season start?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:07 am
How come fake kermit doesn’t call in to this show? I love his calls besides last night.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:07 am
If Archie Goodwin were to be drafted that NBA GM should be fired immediately – Larry Glover
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:08 am
Listen, you can’t blame Cal. I know everyone would love too, but as a Coach he’s one of the best there is. (Won a National title last season). Goodwin will not pass at all. He’s your typical AAU player trying to get his cookies. Harrow starts out unselfish and you can attribute the run in the 1st half to his passing into the interior. Then he feeds off Goodwin’s antics. His age and immaturity take over and he starts doing the thing. That’s why we see Polson in the game because he will run the offense.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:08 am
17- Let’s slow down with the football season. I’m not looking forward to 5 top 10 opponents.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:08 am
Alabama goes to the tourney for beating Villanova who beat Louisville.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:08 am
Ray tells it like it is… a nice guy.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:08 am
Archie is the most selfish player I have seen play at UK
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:09 am
The best lineup is:
1 Polson
2 ??
3 wiltjer
4 Noel
5 CS
They would need to pick them up full court & zone some in the 1/2 CRT. To force them deep into the shot clock.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:09 am
You’re right Matt. If the Cats run the table, we’re in the tournament.
Get help. Please.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:10 am
Kentucky is not good. Say it out loud. Let it resonate. Know it to be the truth.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:10 am
Can we just talk about football recruiting today. This basketball team is just to frustrating to talk about or watch. So give us some news on Hatcher and samples please thank you. G unit where you at?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:10 am
How can you expect any of these road games to be a win
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:10 am
I told you yesterday you were jumping the gun with your predictions, Matt. Here you are doing it again. You’re WRONG. AUB win was a FLUKE. I’ve been positive all season, but it’s time to stop being polite, and start getting real…
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:10 am
One positive takaway…Louisville lost as well.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:10 am
SAY IT!!! SAY IT!!! AHHHHHH. AHHHHHHH!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:11 am
When you get a lead like UK had at the half, CUT THEIR FREAKIN THROAT IN THE 2ND HALF. Don’t coast!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:11 am
@20 No one was blaming Cal, just the inefficiency of a few certain players.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:11 am
Arxhie’s refusal to pass is the fault of the coach. Bench him. Also, I heard after the game, the player being interviewed stated “we still have players who want to do their own thing instead of what coach tells us to do”. Dissention on the team? You betcha
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:12 am
Ryan, did you say Archie ‘gets out of control’?? Archie WAKES UP out of control! Stay out of his way when he’s eating his Frosted Flakes, or you’ll get milk on you.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:12 am
Harry Carry is who I think of when I’m having sex with a girl and don’t want to _ _ _ yet.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:12 am
Try herky jerky next time Ryan.
Also, I can’t stand how Archie refuses to pass the ball on 3 on 1 fast breaks. And then misses the free throws if he is fortunate enough to get bailed out with a foul.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:12 am
Can we trade Goodwin for Skylar McBee?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:12 am
Wiltjer had 11 points on 5-8 FGs in the 1st half. Why did it take 15 mins for him to get a shot the 2nd half?!?!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:13 am
25 – Polson is not the best option. He does run the offense, which is what your PG should do. Harrow can run the point but he’s like a kid whose Dad drove him to the game telling him to shoot the ball every chance he gets.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:13 am
Its like Joker forgetting about Randall Cobb against Tennessee
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:13 am
Cal was outcoached hardcore. Grant adjusted and cal didn’t. He told harrow and Goodwin to
Drive and force the issue instead of getting the ball to the players that were hot. THIS LOSS IS ON THE COACH. Cal is great but he was severely out coached tonite.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:13 am
That’s because I had the ball the entire game
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:14 am
Since 2005
Champion Following year Record
2005 UNC 22-6
2006 FL 22-5
2007 FL 21-10
2008 Kansas 25-6
2009 UNC 18-16
2010 Duke 27-4
2011 UCONN 18-12
The closest situation to what UK has this year is 2005 UNC and 2007 Florida. They lost EVERYONE like we did…. This should be expected
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:14 am
Looking Like UK Football 2012: Each basketball loss seems worse than the prior one. It resembles the hopelessness of the 2012 football team. Don’t know where we go from here.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:14 am
It’s basic basketball. Archie has to understand that his attacking has to BALANCE the post ups and the pick and rolls. Very few offensive players are fast enough and skilled enough to just go one on one and ram your head against the wall and break through. Very few. Archie made those freak shots against UofL and he is convinced his time to shine is when we need a bucket.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:14 am
You also have the fathead guy… that’s my point of view.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
Ryan, the reason they go on those bad stretches in the second half is because Cal puts his starting lineup in to start the second half. If Wiltjer is clearly your best player in the first half, why is he starting the second half on the bench? That is stupid coaching.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
NN last night in post game press conf. actually tried to take some blame for game. POOR NERLENS.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
Matt. Because he will pass the ball and run the offense. You could put Sam Malone in and get the same result when Archie AAU Goodwin and Ryan “Chuck it” Harrow try to drive and shoot with 3 people on them every chance they get.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
@40 Did you not watch the game? Harrow and Goodwin combined for 24 shots and made all of 5 I do believe, not to mention Bama’s D was all over him. Game planned for Wiltjier in second half.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
Did you see the 2 Alabama players fighting for the ball and 1 dribbled it off the baseline… Then the ref said the ball stayed for Bama…. There wasn’t even a UK player there.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
Cal got out coached by Grant. AL made the right adjustments at the half. Cal did not make adjustments to the adjustments.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
Will anyone from the media ask Cal why Archie No-Goodwin is not seeing more bench time and getting jerked out each time he flops in the lane? And why he made no apparent effort to run the offense through Kyle and Noel?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:15 am
43 You clearly didnt watch the game…and you have no idea what Cal told his players, Bama made very few adjustments at half…Bama was out played but made the right plays at the critical times and we didnt…there’s your loss
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:16 am
Nerlens continued his “Tea-bag Tour” last night. That poor dude for the Tide got absolutely abused on a vicious dunk by Noel. FTF is a SCTop10 regular and knocked that player on his ass too…haha!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:16 am
And yet, Cal allows him to continue doing the same thing over and over again.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:16 am
Archie is good but he isn’t progressing at the rate it needs to happen.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:16 am
Ryan is right. How hard is it to guard one guy that is driving the length of the court? Move the freaking basketball, Archie. This isn’t Arkansas High School basketball anymore.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:16 am
Cal even said after the game he was trying to get Archie a layup or a foul called. A) everyone on Bama knew that if he drove to the rim he wasn’t passing, and B) he is a terrible free throw shooter so why would Cal want HIM to draw a foul at the end of the game?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:17 am
In the past, Cal has been able to rely on his team to make right decisions on offense without having to overcoach them. But it’s becoming clear that Goodwin is not going to figure it out on his own. Cal needs to start dictating what Goodwin does on offense or we are going to keep seeing more of the same.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:17 am
Very poor officiating as well. Like having three blind mice out there as the great T-Mac would say.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:17 am
Wiltjer Te’oed us the 2nd half—-We only thought he was there, but in our imagination we still love him.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:17 am
Is it time to run the offense through Wiltjer?
YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or we can keep shooting running layups and go 5-24 (and flopping #38).
The O looked pretty good 1st half. Thought I was watching UK play. Just a thought.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:17 am
Yeah, the play call at 39 seconds was horrible…Cal drew up a play for Archie to take it to the hole…how did he think that was the way to go?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:17 am
Trying?!?! That’s what we’re rewarding now? The notion that Wiltjer needs to sit when he’s not hitting should apply to Archie as well. When he’s completely out of control and is hurting way more than helping being on the court he needs to sit. Especially when Polson is playing well.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:18 am
I was being facetious. You DID say “IF they win X game and Y game….”. Did you watch the game last night? This team is NOT going to beat anybody in the Top 150 mationally.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:18 am
I knew we were finished once I saw Anthony Grant’s shirt. We can’t beat that starch.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:19 am
I do believe the best team won the game last night. If not for one and dones we would be saying this is a young team give them a couple years and they will be real good.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:19 am
55- Thank you! Yes, exactly.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:19 am
or Nationally
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:19 am
My one worry about running the offense through Wiltjer is this: he isn’t the strongest with the ball when he has high intensity pressure on him. There were a couple times last night when he got stripped because the Bama guy was all over him and he could get double teamed, and he threw the ball away once or twice because sometimes he doesn’t make great passes out of pressure. Once teams start game planning to defend Wiltjer as our primary point of attack, he will just have to become more of a facilitator for Gooodwin or Harrow who don’t always make the best decisions
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:19 am
Nerlens might miss a triple double some night this season because he doesn’t have enough points. Throw the man a lob when he’s open people.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:20 am
Do you think we are still in the NCAA tournament?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:20 am
Wiltjier was definitely feeling it last night, would have liked to see him get up around 13-15 shots.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:20 am
2010–11 record 29–9 (10–6 SEC) Losses to Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Florida.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
Grant switched from zone to man-to-man after halftime. Great move that took the cats out of any type of rhythm
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
UCONN won the NIT then won the NCAA the next year.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
If KW keeps building on his recent play is there a first round pick spot waiting for him? Weak draft class could be his best chance for the league. We will really need his experience next year as some of our current team aren’t improving thru this season and may not be any better next year.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
Eating Genitalia.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
I hope Fake Nate calls in and gives a report on the Truth’s speech even though **Spoiler alert** the Truth was not there
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
When is it time….
When is it time to SIT Archie and make him watch what happens when a TEAM plays together and doesn’t go out of control and throw the ball up when you’re falling down.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
@75 With wins at Florida, Mizzou and a sweep of Ole Miss, yeah probably. But only because of the money Mark Emmert is gonna make off BBN.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
There was about 6 to 7 lay ups blown last night, and free throws….guys I’m 62 and I don’t have that much hair left, but for crying out loud these guys missing important freebees I’m pulling them out.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:22 am
Matt! I hear you about the losses, but when you continue to rack up bad losses, coupled with no good wins, its not good. So, yes, you can make the tournament with 9 losses, but there are teams with less losses who don’t make the tournament because they don’t beat anyone. These losses matter.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:22 am
Did you see Erin Calipari’s tweet saying F*** you to the fans criticizing players? It’s not cruel to criticize Archie. He is selfish, can’t shoot and is a drain on the chemistry of the team.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:22 am
By the time you’ve read this sentence Archie Goodwin has already flopped and missed another layup
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:22 am
Archie doesn’t accept a coach’s criticism well at all. It showed at Auburn. That’s his problem.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:22 am
I just don’t see Ryan standing up to Archie. I feel like Archie is the alpha male on the team.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 am
#41, that’s why polson is the best option. He’s talented enough to run the team & he plays his butt off. They get more out of him per minute. Harrow is a little, skinny, wimp. They need to mix up the defense some, maybe even trap a little
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 am
I don’t get why this is even a debate. If you can’t control the kid on the court, SIT HIM.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 am
The Richmond callers were two of the oddest calls last night and occurred about 10 minutes apart. It must be something in the water at EKU…
#TenForTen #FTcontest #StreetSweepers
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 am
In a blog, somebody came up with a great idea: remember how we used to yell ‘SHOOT’ when Polson touched the ball? Fans need to yell ‘PASS” when Archie gets the ball
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 am
Matt, What about the two plays where the ball was clearly off an Alabama player?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 am
Alex Poythress sits down when he pees
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:23 am
Helter-Skelter, Harry-Kerry, Cal-growl, Wiltjer-Ziltjer, Harrow-Marrow, Leach-Screach, The Truth-Baby Ruth, Big Cuz-Peach Fuzz… Just compiling a list of words that rhyme for Ryan
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:24 am
Don’t let Erin Calipari hear you say you hate Archie, wow!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:24 am
Cal was yelling at Archie and harrow to drive the ball. The kid is tryin. I know he sucks but blame cal. No one is gonna want to come here if you idiots keep bashing these kids at the first sign of adversity
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:24 am
#14 is right. Sorry but Goodwin has never had a good layup. Then he goes 1 for 2 at the free throw line. Awful basketball, out of control and needs to be taken out of the lineup. PERIOD
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:24 am
I’m frustrated. Why are they not listening to Cal.
Wonder who’s whispering in there ears telling keep doing your thing
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:24 am
‘Archie doesn’t accept a coach’s criticism well’?
How would he accept a seat on the bench??
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:25 am
Is anyone going to the post game show at GCB on Saturday? I may be there!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:25 am
I believe at least a couple of teams have won the NIT one year, and then the NCAA the next. Kentucky actually got close to that double in ’75 & ’76.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:25 am
Alex Poythress reminds me of Richard Madison…..
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:26 am
I so wish we had enough bench players that Cal could bench Archie, for the teams sake and for Archie’s. He needs to know what he is doing is not working and not playing as part of a team. It’s impossible situation for Cal, can’t bench him because then who would you play.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:26 am
Goodwin is too selfish….. Cal needs to jerk a knot in his butt and set him down…..
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:27 am
If we lose anymore games, the only chalk we are going to be talking about at tournament time will be Cauley-Stein’s sidewalk art.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:27 am
Matt, UK beat UT down the stretch last week because Goodwin fouled out. They played as a team and pulled it out.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:27 am
Does anybody else think the caller Paul sounds like the big dog from The Fox and the Hound?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaTPnUrpAgQ
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:27 am
#94 – That is the answer. Please! E-Rupption Zone needs to yell “PASS” every time Archie takes off for a flying shot and flop. “PASS!”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:28 am
Last night, an Alabama player backed Noel down into the lane, then pushed him away with an elbow (no foul), and Nerlens STILL swatted the young man’s shot
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:28 am
Yes, Richard Madison. He also reminds me of Derrick Hord his first three years… so timid it drove me crazy. Jamal Mashburn? NOT.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:28 am
Bring on Chris! Been enjoying his rants for 10 yrs on 590.
I want to make excuses for this team but the unspirited play has made me weary. This team CAN play but for some reason , just doesn’t want to. Nerlens excepted, of course. Time to win out. Go Cats!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
106) You play anybody you can to give Archie more time on the bench. Polson, Julius, etc. But so far Cal seems blind to treating Archie the way he has Wiltjer, Harrow & Poythress.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
If Darius was on this team, he would tell Archie to slow down and make better decisions. Why can’t Julius advise him a little?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
Sometimes the pieces to the puzzle just don’t fit and the chemistry is just not there. Look at the LA Lakers this year. They have four future hall of famers and one of the best ever in Kobe. Most expected them to challenge for a title but they won’t even make the playoffs. Our post game sound bites sound a lot like the lakers. Lots of head shaking and saying “I don’t know what else to do.”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
Cal had Polson in for Harrow in the first half. He couldn’t have him in for both Harrow and Goodwin at the same time in the second half but he should have had Polson in for one of them.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
I woulda run that winter iso till the cows come home
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
BTW…Jimmy “Partner” Dykes said Ben McLemore for KU will be the #1 draft pick in the NBA next season. Did he take a “Five o’clock free crack give-a-way” before the broadcast last night?!?! Noel is clearly the #1 pick and the player scouts are drooling over. He is on another planet defensively right now for Cats.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
102. I wasn’t covering for him. You’re exactly right. Saw him back talk, turn and walk from Cal’s comments during the Auburn game. Makes him look like a punk as well as a selfish basketball player.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
Is anyone tired of Cal saying that the team has not “bought in to it yet”…well I am. If Cal has not got his team to this point by now I fear it is too late. As it stands now this UK team is a Calipari Fail. Now I do not expect a national champ every year but I do expect that even in a down year we do not lose in the manner we have been losing.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:29 am
Who is our scorer? Archie must think or has been told he is but we really don’t have a prove scorer (Knight, Meeks, Wall, Prince. . .)
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:30 am
Archie may have pics of Cal dancing in his undies to “Hey Soul Sister”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:30 am
I feel like a bad fan but when the CATS this year blow a lead and start playing like they did in the second half, I turn off the game. I keep check of the score but it’s too painful to watch. Especially if I’m going to sit up for an 8:00 game on a school night.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:31 am
99- we are way beyond the first sign of adversity!!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:31 am
My breakfast is bland today because Archie wont pass the salt.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:31 am
I love Archie Goodwin, he’s the best player ever. I am especially fond of how unselfish he is with the basketball.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:32 am
120 have you seen mclemore play? Kid is a stud
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:32 am
Archie is just trying to get in Sports Center top 10 plays every game. He is all about Archie and not the team. This is the first player that I could care less about leaving after one year. In fact, I hope he goes- not many Sports Center top plays in the D League Archie. Harrow was awful last night too. This team has no chemisty and I am not seeing what Cal is doing to fix this.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:32 am
The bottom line is with 30 seconds left what Cal was counting on was the ref’s to bail him out with Archie drawing a foul… based on some bad calls during the game you cannot do that. Anthony Grant out coached Cal in the 2nd half… he made the adjustments and stopped pressing. Cal didnt… Bama played the pick and pop with Wiltjer great… after a while you have to start running him or Mays off some double screens… never thought Cal was a great in-game coach… With 30 seconds left I’d take Pitino because he will AT LEAST get a good look from 3.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:33 am
“if’ we dont get anymore recruits (missing that one guy).
What player from this year’s team would we need to stay to fill that spot ?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:33 am
In terms of selfless play, Archie Goodwin makes Kobe Bryant look like John Stockton.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:33 am
99. Hate to break it to ya but the negativity has been here from the beginning of the season. I wasn’t implying it was last night. People have been hating on Archie for a while now
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:34 am
126*
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:34 am
It was a combination of a lot of things – even Wiltjer missed a critical free throw down the stretch.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:35 am
How about Erin Calipari’s tweet regarding the I hate Archie tweets. Have to love her.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:35 am
Ryan – Cal is telling Archie to attack, but God only knows why. He can’t finish and he can’t make free throws. So when will the media ask Cal WHY he continues to expect different results?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:35 am
I was frustrated with Jones in the same way in 2011. There were times when I said that I didn’t care if he left at the end of the year, and he ended up being an enormous part of us winning the title last year. Be very careful about writing kids off. We live in a microwave society and need to be willing to crock pot every once in a while.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:36 am
A lot of blame to go around last night. Cal wasn’t at his best either. I can’t remember a single time in the second half where we came out of a timeout and looked like we knew what we were doing.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:36 am
Archie is the worst “Shooting Guard” I have ever seen. No arch on his shot.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:37 am
I understand what people are saying about Goodwin, but if Cal had sat him and we didnt win, the same people would criticizing him for NOT having Goodwin in…Goodwin is the best playmaker we have this year…that is his role, but he is still learning how to pick his spots
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:37 am
I don’t think Archie is too selfish, he makes poor decisions. He leads the team in Assists ….. and turnovers
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:37 am
WHAT is all this talk about Archie deciding to go to the League? The YMCA intra-mural league?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:37 am
I really wish Cal had given Hood more of a look, he seems pretty steady and would have liked to see how the team performed with Hood in over Archie.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:37 am
The Cats blew the game on their own, but there were two clearly missed out of bounds calls by the refs in the second half that hurt us badly.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:37 am
They’re all playin for the league! The whole season, I keep going back to the All Access and Rock Oliver yelling, “NBA, NBA!”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:38 am
Im more mad at Poythress. That kid is the worst ball handler I’ve ever had the misfortune of seeing play basketball. He isn’t going to play the four at the next level
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:38 am
I agree with Kelly, I think Archie is attacking like Cal says
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:38 am
Who here would rather see extended minutes from Jon Hood than the Archie Goodwin show?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:38 am
#134 He deserves the criticism.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:38 am
I may be the only one with this opinion…but I just do not understand why the NBA drafts on potential. Why would you do that over proven results? Drafting on potential leads to BUSTS some of the time. Proven results shows that the player can do it, the results speak for themselves on the court. I would not draft Archie or Alex just based off their potential right now. Why would you draft someone in the first round based off their body alone? I just don’t get it. The point is to win basketball games, not get the players with the best body or potential. If I was an NBA GM I would not draft either one in the first round right now. Maybe that could change
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:39 am
#142–I would not have criticized. Can’t win with him, might as well try without.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:39 am
Archie just needs to develop a jump stop to go with his aggressive drives. All he does if go off of one foot and get caught in the air. He must learn to come to a two foot jump stop — it will provide him balance and a chance to quickly gather himself to make a good decision real close to the rim. A jump stop can provide for passing, a balanced jumper, the ability to head fake/ball fake, and also the ability to pivot. He has to learn this and this is what is missing in his game.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:39 am
142) What makes you think Archie is a good play maker? He does not pass. He gets few assists. He can’t finish when he drives. He can’t shoot from the outside. He can’t make free throws. But other than that, I guess you are right.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:39 am
I actually think if we had played a zone defense it would have helped us midway through the second half.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:39 am
If Goodwin goes to the he would be a perfect fit for the wizards or the kings teams that could careless who shoots or how the team performs
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:40 am
#129…yea, he is a beast. I just think it will be hard for NBA teams to pass onthe Flat Top Feller.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:40 am
As much as it pains me to say, this looks like a Billy G team…..
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:40 am
Jon hood is NOT the answer. You all need to get a grip. Poison can play but Jon hood is a scrub.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:40 am
Chris from Richmond. He’s been calling Larry Glover’s post-game for years.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:40 am
Something that would be a great benefit to Archie (that unfortunately we do not have this year) would be a better player that he would have to compete with for time on the court. I bet he would think twice about some of these things. But right now he realizes that there are no consequences to his actions unfortunately.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:41 am
Everyone needs to get off Archies back… he is 18 years old… still learning… just leave him be… raggin on him isnt going to “help”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:41 am
I feel Chris’ pain.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:42 am
#163 He’s an adult and wants to go pro next year. You think they will be nice to him there?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:42 am
Chris from Richmond almost pulled a Jay on the call!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:42 am
The good news: I cancelled cable TV and won’t have to watch this nonsense for the remainder of the season.
The bad news: I still pick up the SEC Network broadcast for free so I may have to watch some of this nonsense before the NIT.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:42 am
That’s the way Chris talks. Don’t cut him off, just be quiet, and let him go on. He will provide comedic relief after all the tough losses. Chris from Richmond is seriously the most entertaining caller I’ve ever known on sports talk.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:43 am
Do you think there is something to be said for Tubby/Pitino never putting out a team this bad?
Dont get me wrong, I crush on Cal… I crush on the championship. But even still, if you take out the Gilispie years, we havent had a team this bad since 1989.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:43 am
I wonder if Coach Cal has spoke to Archie like he spoke to Terrence Jones (selfish MF)?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:43 am
163 right on dude. I’m as frustrated as the next guy but come on. I think we were spoiled last year. Goodwin is still gonna be good some day
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:43 am
167 – you won’t be able to watch the NIT if you don’t have cable tv
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:43 am
Serena is on steroids..
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:44 am
The good news: The one-n-done model can win NCAA championships.
The bad news: The one-n-done model sharts ice cream.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:44 am
Matt – FYI Chris is always the first caller calling Larry G (AM590) during his post game show almost every game and comments very professional and we all love him
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:44 am
There’s a big difference between hating someone and criticizing (rightfully) their very poor play.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:44 am
172: Good point! My day just got better….
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
Geez people are angry… people need to go back to bed.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
and THAT is exactly what Mr Delusional was saying about Matt
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
Fancy feast…Hood is a player who knows his own limitations and he plays within himself. Coach Cal has even said that about Hood. Goodwin is HURTING the team being out there.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
I think Archie is like Westbrook is for OKC and how tyshawn Taylor was for KU last year. Sometimes you get good Archie and sometimes you get bad Archie.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
This old dude is painful to listen to
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
The only thing I agree with this caller about is Harrow. Not much was said about Trae Golden taking Ryan to the bucket over and over and over.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
Does Archie fall down and call foul during the layup line?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:45 am
#151 The kid may deserve some criticism but he does not deserve people telling him that they hate him and they hope he leaves and he’s the worst people have ever seen. He’s still an 18 year old kid. These kids come here with more pressure and expectations from fans than anyone can live up to. Criticism is one thing, hate tweets are another.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
153 Dude stop…if he had Polson out there and Polson had made the mistakes that cost us, you would be criticizing Cal for that like most others…we lost and everyone wants to throw around blame…we still will not know how good this team can be until late Februaury and that fact has not changed
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
Matt calm down your dag dern arrogance, it makes your nose whistle unbearable.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
What? Matt, arrogant? Well, that never would have occurred to me. Bwaahahahahaa!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
Matt – to tell you the truth, I agree with this 63 year old gentleman totally!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
This is what I hate about this fan base. As good as BBN can be whenever we have a down year we get people like this old guy, who sounds like he’s been hitting the Ancient Age a little early, who call in to these shows and makes us all a little dumber.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
hahahahahahahahahahaha — this old guy has run the complete gambit of emotions in this call. He thinks you do a horrible job, but also thinks you do a great job.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
That was a fantastic call by Will. Everything he said was the truth. Deal with it.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:46 am
Did Ryan see Will at Roosters?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:47 am
Oh good grief, this Will guy is a tool. Insult the host and then come back at the end and try to suck up. Give me a break.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:47 am
I AGREE WITH CALLER….MATT IS RUDE TO CALLERS IF THEY DON’T AGREE WITH HIM.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:47 am
People are really angry today. I mean, I’m upset that we lost but imagine how we’d be if we made the final four last year but didnt win the title? We’d be going nuts. Can we put this in perspective please?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:47 am
No one ‘hates’ Archie. I love the kid. But Calipari himself always says its accelerated at UK. If they plan on coming here and leaving after a year he says that he has to prepare them to be ‘adults’ so they can succeed on the next level. Everyone will take criticism in the NBA at some point and if they can’t handle it at UK then they won’t be ready for it in the NBA
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:47 am
I give you props Matt. I would absolutely lay into some of these people.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:47 am
Turn down your arrogance Matt and realize that this man, who can’t even get one of the starter’s names correct, has forgotten more than you know about UK Basketball.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:48 am
Archie’s out of control-ness is so bad that the refs aren’t even giving him fouls anymore. He’s starting to just look like a flopper instead of driver. More control and passing is all he needs to make him a great asset to this team.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:48 am
Archie is definitely NBA next year, please, please, somebody, anybody draft him
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:48 am
#170 the best comment ever.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:48 am
Matt can not take the truth.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:48 am
I would not trade Cal for a million bucks because he is worth more than one mil. Lol
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:48 am
Will’s right. We need more from Prometheus.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:49 am
ryan-just as the caller complains about how callers are treated on the show, you make fun of how he pronounced a players name.
I didn’t hear you say anything while he was on the line.
I don’t think callers a treated bad on the whole, but besides matt, you and shannon are looking for ways to scoff at rural callers.
That caller was more entertaining than you have ever been on the show
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:49 am
Outsa way foolz I’m driving to da basketa.
YIIIII EEEEEE
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:49 am
Alex Legion>Goodwin
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:49 am
155 so who on the team is the better playmaker with the ball in his hands? Archie has several faults (after all he is an 18 year old kid that has been playing bball seriously for probably 4 years), and of course he should use the defensive attention he draws to get others involved, but he is still our best option with the ball until someone else steps up.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:49 am
If you all hate on Matt so much A) why are you listening and thus supporting him? B) why don’t you get your own show/blog?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:50 am
205 just cracked me up!!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:50 am
#167 Make sure you don’t watch next year either. You’re a fan through good and bad or you’re not a fan. So cancel the subscription for good and don’t come back on here next year talking about how great they are.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:50 am
Aiiiggghhttt jabronis…. i dont like to get caught up in UK this or UK that all over facebook or try to call ppl out on if they are “Tue UK Fans” or not but i have people that are self proclaimed “die hard” UK fans blowin up my newsfeed doggin my boyz in blue….talkin bout they trash…and this is embarassing etc…bitch i would literally walk 40 minutes in the snow, in the Billy G dayz to watch UK lose…. and i didnt get on here and start crying like i just caught my momma in bed wit da milk man. So as far as I’m concerned, if you’re gonna get on here a diss the whole team you can drink bleach and die. Cuz you the type of fan that gives uk fans a bad name and i have to listen to duke fans and louisville fans bring up ppl like you and generalize that all uk fans are like that or that we are all just bandwagon fans. So if you aint bout UK when we lose then you aint bout shit! Again drink bleach and die you L7 squares and if you dont like what I’m preachin you can find me at Golden Glaze around 7ish every weekday and i will gladly crank a sausage biscuit off your forehead and squeeze a jelly donut on your head like you was gettin slimed on Nickelodeon’s Figure It Out and then your Lori Beth Denberg lookin ass will have something to cry about. Dueces.
#freesosa
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:50 am
Gist of the last call – No disrespect to you, Matt, but, I don’t respect you.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:50 am
Kidnut. I get what you’re saying but I just disagree. Hood can’t guard a three toed sloth. I’d rather have someone who can move on defense and who is capable of doing more than reversing the ball on offense. Goodwin did hurt us last night but he’s still a significantly better player than hood
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:50 am
I am so happy for the BBN that I just had an involuntary Volgasm.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 am
Please forgive Will….he is bi-polar and crazy. He is also suffering from spoiledukfan-itis. We are an average team, but by no means are we “bad”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 am
Coach Cal said himself, “YOU CAN’T HIDE HERE.”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 am
I know a guy who pronounces Poythress as “Podgeneese”
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 am
When Wiltjer is our only offense, why does he not start 2nd half? You gotta dance with the one that brung ya!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 am
This year’s UK team is nothing like the Lakers. Bad analogy. The Lakers are old players that are accomplished. They’re only similar in that they can’t play well together.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 am
Ryan can’t say anything about someone making a mistake and sounding silly. It was in this hour Ryan said “belter skelter, Harry Carey” whatever in gods name that meant.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:52 am
That caller was right. Matt treats most callers that disagree with him with no respect. I like the show, but the arrogance, and constantly being on Cal’s jock strap is hard to take sometimes.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:52 am
212) Thanks for your stupid advice. Are all Texans like you?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:52 am
Helter skelter….autocorrect made me now sound stupid
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
Any more news on Rupp uncle matt?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
Apparently everyone in the Commonwealth except the folks at KSR realize that this team isn’t developing into the “scary” team predicted by hero Vitale and others.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
“Do you think there is something to be said for Tubby/Pitino never putting out a team this bad?”
Are you serious? Team Turmoil was MUCH worse than this. Fifteen-minute droughts were an every night thing. Tubby never worked on offense in practice, and it showed.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
It’s ashame someone with a better personality didnt create ksr. Matt’s arrogance, insecurity and all around awkwardness just isn’t a good fit for radio. It’s awful listening to him every morning but I need my Cats info. Sell the rights to Drew Franklin, let KSR reach its full potential.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
Does Cal even mention Goodwin being selfish?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
209) I’m not getting drawn in to your debate. You claimed Archie was a good play maker, so you need to defend it. Why is he good? I was just pointing out the flaws in that statement.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
Ryan. Poythress didn’t do anything aggressive. He hit a layup and a fast break dunk. Watch the games
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:54 am
Could this team mimic the run UL had last year? They entered the NCAA tournament at 26-9 after winning the BE tourney. I’m a believer!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
Aside from Nerlens play…..which means nothing because he’s leaving….there is simply nothing positive to take away from this loss. We have no Brandon Knight, no Deandre Liggins, no Darius Miller….and therefore no hope to save this season. It sounds great to pretend like we can turn it around, and that is certainly great business for KSR so they have to walk the fine line between being honest and people losing interest in a lost season….hence the need for gloss. But the reality is that this team is a complete bust and Cal’s formula has simply collapsed this year and created a mess in a down year for college basketball and a down year for the SEC…which makes the fact that we’re so mediocre even worse. Cal is trapped, and he knows it….if he’s too tough on players and makes them sit then he risks losing his whole “players first” pitch and “alienating” recruits…..so ultimately the strategy holds him hostage unless the players buy-in and can handle it…..Goodwin obviously can’t and he’s sinking the ship…but what can Calapari do? He’s painted himself into a corner…and we’re all there with him now…..let’s hope next year is different…..I’m not complaining, just assessing the cost of the opportunity Cal’s approach provides.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
#223 – Really? You ever listen to Rome? The second he hears something he doesn’t like he hangs up on the caller. Matt does not and never yells back. How would you like to be yelled at by a perfect stranger? I work in Customer Service and tell you that it is NOT easy. I give Matt a LOT of credit for staying calm!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
Cats crushed the tide in rebounding too….so, so frustrating.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
I’m as disappointed as anyone about the loss, but the chicken little “sky is falling” routine from some of these callers is a bit much IMO. Where is Chester with a pep talk for BBN like he did in football season?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
Did the team really take a step back? Or did Archie just destroy the momentum and dominate the ball so badly that Kyle and Julius couldn’t do what they did in the 2nd half against Auburn?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
All 9 blocks were on Goodwin.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
Does Archie Goodwin hit the floor more than dwayne wade
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:55 am
Hey Matt everybody needs to just chill out. This team is not as good as ones that we’ve had in the recent past. That said let’s take it easy on these guys and be patient with them. They may not do anything this year, but the same guys may be the ones that help bring home number 9 and number 10. Better days are ahead. Be patient … we’ve got no other choice.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:56 am
Hahahahahahahahahaha….I just cannot stop laughing at the BBN…..hahahahahaha. Make sure to listen to me on 104.5 the Zone today….if I can stop giggling….hahahahahahahaha.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:56 am
dont forget this team can LOSE the SEC tourney, but still collect quality WINS in the tourney
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:56 am
That’s right, Cal, please stop getting the best players every year. We’re so sick of it.
People are forgetting that this past high school class is the weakest in like 15 years!
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:56 am
223) I disagree, I think Matt likes a good debate, but disagreement is not disrespect. A lot of the callers take disagreement personal.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:56 am
The second year they weren’t really good at this int in the season. This season isn’t over. Illogical argument
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:57 am
we’re nowhere near the team we should be, UL loses at home followed by a road loss to a bad team, IU loses at home. and this season looked to be so much fun when it started. oh well, there’s still time to meet up in march. (i hope)}
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:57 am
Ryan sounds very informed and polished when he takes over the mike from Tom Leach on his show however he has a different role on KSR.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:57 am
I’ve been complaining about the one and done for years now, it’s not Cal’s fault, it’s the NBA’s fault. They need to fix it. I don’t blame Cal for recruiting the best players.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:58 am
Willie, did you call WLEX and complain about MJP’s smile?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:58 am
#248 I’m starting to think it’s an act he does on KSR.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:58 am
231 you should actually read what I wrote…I didnt say he is a “good playmaker”…I said he was the best playmaker on our team right now…I also said he has several flaws
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:58 am
It is just painful to watch this team. They are a mess.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:58 am
Matt!!!! Stop saying Cal has rebuilt a program 4 years in a row. The previous 3 classes all had returning players that had experience and talent. This team has NONE of that talent and experience returning. It is squarly on Cal’s shoulders that KW is the only player from last year. You can’t say this team/season is the aboration because it isn’t an apples to apples comparison.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:58 am
I do not recall in “20-win Tubby’s” era us worrying about not getting into the tourney. I love Cal, just curious if we ever a real bubble team during his tenure.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:59 am
251 – the leach report is a completely different forum than KSR
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:59 am
Correction: I love Cal, just curious if we were ever a real bubble team during Tubby’s tenure.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:59 am
Ryan- do you even realize how dumb that sounded? This is above average? For the best college basketball program in history, you are saying this is above average?
I understand that this is a down year and they are going to happen 20-25% of the time in Cal’s system, and I’m okay with that.
But do you realize how stupid you just sounded saying that this year is above average just because out of the 320 teams in the NCAA-D1 we are in the top 160?
You are doing better about paying attention, now we just need the quality of your comments to get there.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:00 am
Great Ryan were above avg. Whooooooowhoooo.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:00 am
I don’t like Archie’s body language, haven’t all year. Do you think the ESPN all access set this team up to fail? “The wink” looks to have created some arrogance amongst a very talented group. I would love to know Nerlens’ opinion of Archie, I bet we can all assume what it would be…
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:00 am
235 do you need a cigarette?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:00 am
In all honesty, some of the callers are right. Matt and Ryan don’t know basketball. They know UK athletics very well, which is why we listen because they entertain us. X’s and O’s shouldn’t be why we listen. At 63, Will may have forgotten a lot of things
But he loves his Cats. You have to realize it’s like fighting with your brother. Only you can say bad things about them, not anyone else. However, we won #8 last season people.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:03 am
254 if you cheered for last years team you arent really justified in complaining about the team Cal has now…cant have one without the other…both teams were built using the same approach
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:04 am
257-Good question, it was Gillispie who ended the 17 year tournament run….and if we had a similar streak Cal would be ending it this year….the year after a title! So, what does this mean? I think it means we can’t really complain but need to realize the opportunity cost of Cal’s approach as I outlined above….I think what we’re seeing is that when Cal’s approach fails….it fails pretty badly…and when it succeeds, it really succeeds….it is a boom or bust approach, simple as that…
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:04 am
Screw it, let’s talk football.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:04 am
Remember how Cal bragged last year about how MKG and AD took the third and fourth most shots on the team and were 1-2 in the NBA Draft? I bet he wishes Archie would follow along those same lines. So frustrating to watch. Back to you Matt and Ryan!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:05 am
Mark Stoops and the boys will get them back on the gridiron don’t worry
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:06 am
234 – Ditto!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:07 am
Archie just needs to play within himself. He is a hell of a player.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:07 am
WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS NEED SOMEONE/THING TO BLAME!?!? I mean, early on it was wiltjer now it’s calipari?!? Guys, we have talent but they’re just not meshing well right now. Goodwin needs to improve as well but the talent is there. Guys, lets stop blaming everybody and relax a little bit!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:07 am
Senior citizens get no respect on this show.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:08 am
A lot of groups that become irrelevant will do farewell tours and then release a greatest hits to become interesting again, and then do a reunion/new album. It’s a sad way to get traction. I think Brooks and Dunn are headed that way.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:08 am
I went to the Judds farewell concert then they toured again.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:08 am
He Stopped Loving Her Today. Gotta play it. Could also refer to some fans’ view of this years cats.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:09 am
@KySportsRadio @ryanlemond Any #KSR updates if the Truth inspired L’ville, Drunk Willie used a sick day on Tues or the FT contest?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:09 am
Teague went because he has an NBA brother playing with the Hawks. A direct insight into the league.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:09 am
No Show Jones
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:09 am
Anyone who says Cal’s recruiting is misguided are saying “recruit less talented players.” That’s nuts.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:10 am
Wow..don’t be poking fun at Drew and Tin Roof!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:10 am
This year’s team is better than any team, other than maybe 2003 and excluding 1998, that Tubby ever put together. So deal with it.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:10 am
The lack of going to Kyle in the second half cost us along with all the diving scoop shots and balls just thrown at the basket in hopes of a foul.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:10 am
So UK has a much better chance at Hatcher than i thought…
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:11 am
Can I get a fudging walk ons podcast Matt?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:11 am
C M said go elsewhere, might just do that.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:11 am
Cal has us spoiled, I can’t wait until Quick Rick leaps the highest building in Hardinsburg.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:11 am
A quote from Goodwin’s AAU team site at Peach Jam (Note the assist stats):Wings 6′ 5″ Guard Archie Goodwin led the way with 30 Points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:11 am
George Jones is called the opossum because he looks like a opossum in the face. He has the voted Number 1 love song of all time. ” He stopped loving her today. ” we have no power forward. Bennett was the answer.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:12 am
All summer long Matt gushed over Alex’s game
and didn’t he even have Alex’s dad on the air
he was so infatuated with him coming-
best he ever saw on AAU circuit?
What did Matt see then? Looks to me he can’t
even dribble.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:13 am
288 – he was playing against other high school players with no pressure on him not division 1 college basketball players
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:13 am
283-Shane left Walk-ons. Not sure if they are going to do the show anymore. Maybe Matt will address this.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:14 am
I’m not certain but I think Jerry Tipton keeps writing on the show thread under a variety of usernames. Team Powell is in full effect today.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:14 am
Music suggestion for the next break: George Jones Talkin’ Cell Phone Blues, Drive-By Truckers.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:14 am
These are 18/19 year old Adults!!!!! They are not kids!!!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:14 am
This time last year, these guys were SENIORS IN HIGH SCHOOL…..
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:14 am
Some fairweather UK fans are starting to annoy me as more than UL fans.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:14 am
288. I’m with ya. Alex needs to get a VHS copy of “pistol: birth of a legend” and start working on some of maravich’s dribbling drills. He handles the ball with the grace of a hippopotamus
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:14 am
CAT fans want their cake and they want to eat it too. BBN wants the best talent to come to Lexington, you see it now as Cat fans are energized about the players Stoops is bringing in. Should BBN be frustrated, do they have reason to be frustrated?; absolutely! Cal recruits the best just as Coach K, Donovan, and Izzo do. Those coaches would take all the talent we have anyday.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:15 am
In that tournament Goodwin Shot: 36 of 94. HE TOOK 94 SHOTS!!! He’s taking 20 shots per game.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:16 am
This was clearly not the whole issue but let’s not forget we were down a man to injury plus another down to foul trouble
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:16 am
290. Are you serious. That’s a tragedy
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:16 am
Alabama beat South Dakota State by 3 and beat us by 4, so does that mean South Dakota State would be a one point favor against us?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:16 am
Matt, your arrogance and condesenscion are what made that good book in Lexington the last quarter. A grating personality is radio gold. Why else would Sue Wylie still be on the air. Can you answer that, Bryan Lemond?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:16 am
I hope with every ounce of being that Archie Goodwin is not in a UK uniform next year. One and done PLEASE! Dumbest player I have ever had the privilege to watch, makes at least 5 turnovers a game, and still plays 38 minutes!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:16 am
I don’t think anyone is questioning coach Cal.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:17 am
Just goes to show fundamental skills are not being taught in High School or AAU ball. It’s finding athletes and teaching them basketball. Not teaching basketball and creating players. There are teachers and there are coaches. Cal is a teacher and it’s going to take time with some of these guys.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:17 am
Stay positive, season is not over. There are 14 SEC games left plus the SEC tourney. Have faith and trust that Cal will get this team to play at their peak in March. They have yet to play at their potential.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:17 am
Rick Pitino won 2 national titles as far as I am concerned… Tubby did not win it in 1998
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:19 am
No matter how bad UK is… I love me some KSR!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:19 am
Winning a national championship in men’s basketball is the hardest thing to do in sports. Cal’s way works. It is very, very hard to do as well as he has done.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:20 am
All these ppl raggin on Archie… Lets see you play under all the pressure he is under when you were 18. I bet 90% of you have never played a competitive sport in your life so stfu!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:20 am
Somebody get Matt a “Whah Burger” and some “French Cries.” Call “Whine 11!” How ’bout a “Whine-iken” you big baby.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:20 am
300 here is the link…read the second story down. http://tobaccoroadblues.com/
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:21 am
I doubt we’ll ever have to find out, but could Cal win games with a team full of 4-stars and the occasional 3 and 5 star player? Now we’re pretty much a team full of 5-star players with the occasional 4 star and a walk-on getting minutes.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:21 am
Matt’s humility is equal only to the unselfishness of my favorite player Archie Goodwin. Two angels indeed.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:21 am
George Jones other nickname is “No Show Jones.” Figure it out…lol. He Stopped Loving Her Today, White Lighting
Matt…can you further comment on Coach Cal in regards to his frustrations, lack of answers or ideas on how to fix this team?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:21 am
How much longer ’til football season ??!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:22 am
Jason Giambi admitted lying right away and everyone forgot. Palmeiro lied repeatedly and people kept coming at him. The truth will set you free!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:23 am
Great Manti – Te’O joke: What do the Alabama Running Back’s and Manti’s fake girlfriend have in common? Manti Te’O has never touched any of them
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:23 am
I wonder if Manti Te’o's fake GF was Jasmine in Vegas??
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:23 am
Matt,
Ask Roy Williams and Billy Donovan how tough it was to get back to the tournament after their national titles (2007 & 2009) and the whole team left…. It is nearly impossible to do
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:24 am
Kind of like how you steal pictures off Facebook for your site, Matt?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:24 am
i dont know what these people are whining bout when we get willie back we’ll be fine with the way kyle’s playin, and we will beat florida in them ugly ass uni’s
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:24 am
I think its safe to say nothing about this Kentucky Basketball season is as good as last year. The team is not playing as well as when we won a national championship, Cal is not coaching as well as when he won a national championship, and frankly Matt you and Ryan are as good as you were when the Cats were crushing people last year.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:25 am
From the outside looking in, It looks to me at times like Poythress just don’t like basketball… He don’t look like a kid that wants to do this as a career. Maybe he came to UK for their outstanding academic reputation? On the other hand with Goodwin, he looks at times like he has one foot out the door and is looking out for number 1.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:25 am
I college basketball just a point guard’s game? You obviously can’t win without one.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:25 am
Ole Will needs his own show or have Matt have him as an In Studio Guest. He grew up with these Boys back in the Rupp Days {Got some Great Stories}. Belive me he was an All-American College BB Player in the 60′s. He Loves KY and he in fact knows of what he speaks. Folks take off the Glasses this Team is Bad. Love Cal, but this Group doesn’t get it!
Man Up Man—Get the Man in the Studio—
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:25 am
Who wouldnt’t be arrogant with a flowing mane of chest hair such as myself
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:25 am
Sounds like this caller has ball skills
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:26 am
Will Made Your Show Today—Get him out of NC & on the Show—Great Radio!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:27 am
Don’t be arrogant and awkward, Matt…just apologize to this caller because he forgets more about Coach Cal’s yelling than you will ever know. Haha
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:27 am
“Kyyle…craazy” had me rolling.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:28 am
Next to Scott County… Just north.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:28 am
Agree this
Guy is Great—Funny & Entertaining & Knowledgeable—Get him on!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:28 am
314 Ditto. I scouted for a coach who won over 80% of games. Archie plays for Archie.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:29 am
Owen Co is the next county north of Franklin (Frankfort).
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:29 am
Owen County is on the North side of Franklin County.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:29 am
Owen County is inbetween Louisville and Cincy on 71
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:29 am
I thought I was the Yellow Jackets and not the Wildcats.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:30 am
The people that criticize Matt’s arrogance and opinionation need to keep in mind that Matt was, at one point, a practicing attorney…he can’t help himself! That’s his job, whether he’s in the courtroom or on the air. It’s just in his blood!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:30 am
It seems the older a caller sounds, the more upset they are with Goodwin.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:30 am
Owen County is located 30 minutes north of Frankfort on state route 127. It is halfway between louisville and cincy along I-71. They have a big freshman named Carson Williams. His brother, Sawyer Williams, is currently a freshman at Morehead State University.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:30 am
Man Up Matt—Get OLE Will in the Studio—Show needs Guys like him not these Fake Barney types.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:30 am
Matt, Whenever you use the phrase, “Without Question”, please do it in the “Handsome” Jimmy voice.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:32 am
I heard Wiltjer & Poythress made love to Goodwin’s girlfriend? Can anyone confirm? That could be the reason for this debacle.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:32 am
Cranky old man…Clint Eastwood called and wants his schtick back.
GET OFF MY LAWN!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:32 am
Can’t we just be a little less critical and a lot more supportive of our Cats? We have a very young team and BBN needs to get behind them and encourage them. Go Cats!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:33 am
People should read about the siege of Stalingrad in 1942. Things could be a little worse
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:33 am
Great Show Hate it has to be atra Loss, but be prepared for several more!
\Get Ole Wiil on the Show—Ryan is a drag—Bland and very little to add!
You need to have someone who will clash with you a times!
Man Up—Get Ole Will
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:34 am
The freshman from Owen County is a 6’6 “country strong” kid. I coach a middle school is Shelby County and we played them twice last year and he had about 30 both games. Looks like he brings the backboard down when he dunks. Has an older brother that played an was about 6’7. Their middle school team went undefeated last year.
Zach
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:35 am
MATT…Last night’s game….was to show the players…”THERE WAY” doesn’t work….Last night’s game was this year’s version of last season’s IU GAME…..this team will…start to “click” now….you’ll see…..Prediction….(elite 8)….
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:35 am
George is an overnight radio DJ that puts on a recorded show so he can sneak home for a quuickie with his wife. When he gets home, somebody is already in bed with her and he hears his own voice on the nightstand radio just before he blasts them. It’s a classic.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:36 am
Check out the Owen County Subway remodel… I hear it’s amazing!!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:36 am
There isn’t much in Owenton sadly.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:37 am
Best places to eat in Owen County… Farm House Grill, Elk Creek Winery, or Sweet Owen Store
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:37 am
Nate, if your aunt grows testicles, she could pass for your uncle
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:37 am
Eat in Frankfort or Georgetown before going.

January 23rd, 2013 at 11:39 am
Riddle me this: How did Steve Masielo at Manhattan beat out the likes of Arizona, Kansas, Colorado, Memphis, Tennessee, and Xavier for a 5-star player?
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Chris-Thomas-111893
Tell me that ain’t fishy.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:39 am
Holy $hit—That Hale is Sharp—Like Him!
Like others—Show needs Will!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:41 am
nate is the most honest caller ever. never caught him backtracking on anything he says.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:41 am
At what point do Louisville fans turn on Ricky P? After Georgetown beats them Saturday for their THIRD straight loss?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:41 am
That was a great call by Nate…I missed those type of calls when he was gone
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:41 am
Harlan not only made the finals but won the title twice that I remember off the top of my head. Charles Thomas, Todd cox, Michael Jones. One of the best class A dynasties
Kentucky has ever seen.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:41 am
Slapnuts—You need Will to handle him—Be Good Radio—Matt kisses Slapnuts & Will would smack him!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:42 am
Kevin, if you play in the mighty BigLeast, and do not win the NC, does it matter where you play?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:42 am
Matt..put that nut slapper in his place. Does he not know ‘Nova lost to ‘Bama by 22 earlier this season. Pulease. Those tards aint all that
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:43 am
Vociferous: loud, noisy, vocal, uproarious, boisterous.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:43 am
Why is there no mention of Harrow’s awful play???
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:43 am
Mays made that 3 with his feet wide apart on right wing. Jimmy Fykes mind was blown.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:43 am
Goodwin is poison to this team’s offense.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:44 am
SlapNuts-Kevin needs to worry about his own “Quawds”. Harrow had a bad night AFTER having several better than average nights. Archie was Archie and Cal should have sat him down. Wiltjer getting NO ATTEMPTS until 3 min. +/- left is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:45 am
Will is THE Man—Get him on—’Cats are in Trouble—What Team is the last caller watching!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:45 am
First sensible call of the day….11:45am
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:45 am
Nate’s pause when he thought of the last book he read was longer than Boyd Crowder’s forehead.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:46 am
Great Show—Get a Co-Host though—OLE Man Will would be a Winner!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:47 am
All we need to do is improve by March, get some confidence and win the SEC tourny. Nashville will be painted Blue that weekend and I will definitely be there.
#369: He did have a terrible game last night but with his improvements over the last month he will be fine. Everyone has a bad game, makes bad decisions etc. but he did not show a lack of heart which is what I love seeing.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:47 am
Owen Co. Rebels
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:48 am
Per the school website: Owen County Rebels
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:48 am
Anyone else feel uncomfortable when they here the sexting commercial on iHeartRadio? Sounds like a 12 year old giving the commercial. Keep waiting for Chris Hansen to break into the commercial.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:49 am
Let’s discuss where this team would be if Nerlens wound up at Syracuse??
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:50 am
Show needs Help—Ryan is a Stiff—Terrible!
Get the OLE Guy—Livin this Show Up!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:50 am
Pineville girls in All-A classic this afternoon at 1 pm versus Newport Catholic
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:51 am
Dykes said Noel could play for an NBA team tonight, and contribute. And he’s right.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:51 am
I think Cal has figured it out. Goodwin doesn’t get it. I don’t think he’ll ever buy in. Poythress either has no coordination or just hasn’t shown it all season. This team just doesn’t want it, or doesn’t understand what it takes to be good.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:52 am
Anyone else see Archie Goodwin as Daniel Orton 2.0? When I see him on TV his demeanor and the look on his face just reminds me of Orton, someone who hasn’t bought in to the concept and is only there for their pass to the NBA.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:53 am
Damn, Chester gets me fired up!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:53 am
Chester is going all Chester on this call.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:53 am
Matt, for the good of mankind, please don’t EVER do that awful cheer audibly again. Keep that to yourself! Now it’s stuck in my head and will ultimately cause my brain synapses to rot. Thanks Jones.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:53 am
Chester for the win!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:53 am
Chester is a complete dumbass.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:53 am
Chester.. we need to talk
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:53 am
Chester hears the Battle Hymn of the Republic in his head when he calls in.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:54 am
Please let everyone know ahead of time when Chester calls! #TeamChester
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:54 am
Chester don’t bet your pool on that this year bro!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:54 am
We cannot win/be good if Poythress and Goodwin don’t buy in. The rest of the team can make dramatic improvements and it doesn’t matter. Those two don’t buy in, and it looks like they have decided not to, and we don’t have the potential to be good this year.
I’ll support them and watch every game, but I’m going to stop holding out hope that they’ll buy in.
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:54 am
Matt loves to embarrass the people who support his living
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:55 am
“I think its dumb that a fella could date a girl and not seen her” CLASSIC!!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:55 am
Does anyone else picture Chester in face paint and a unitard when he goes off?
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:55 am
Just In
Ohio State has finally offered Timmons. Congrats to him, will be hard for him to turn that down
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:55 am
Now that was funny
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:55 am
Chester is Crazy—You Wipe out Game Minutes—The Team Did for sure! I;m ashamed my name is Chester! Matt give him another Kiss—This Boy is a Fool!
Will would at least Balance his Crazy Rant—Get Ole Will he’d take him to task!
KY will Lose a minimum of 5/6 more Games! Kinda like Chester’s Love Life—Looser!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:56 am
Amen Chester!
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:56 am
Chester=Bagdad Bob
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:58 am
It’s L O S E R, not looser
January 23rd, 2013 at 11:58 am
Looser is what your jeans need to be
January 23rd, 2013 at 12:00 pm
you know what sucks trying to call it always being busy and then finally getting through and being on hold for literally 30 minutes and have the show end and why you’re still on hold. Smh
January 23rd, 2013 at 3:00 pm
#398…you know that classic Chester line will make #ShitSaidOnKSR! Haha
#FleshOnFlesh
January 23rd, 2013 at 3:01 pm
#388…Jax, it was Chester at his finest. Epic call!
