Dakari Johnson is on television right now

by @ 5:00 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Dakari Johnson has seven offensive rebounds after one half against Findlay Prep.  The game between the nation’s top two high school teams is currently on ESPNU, for those of you interested in following Kentucky’s big man from the 2013 class.  It’s been a great TV day for fans of Kentucky basketball and this will one will get you to dinner time, and then The Bachelor, if that’s your kind of thing.

Go future Cats.

  1. AndrewH Says:

I’ve been watching him the whole time he is really big has some nice post moves.

  2. UK fan 4 ever Says:

I think his game resembles DMC so much it isn’t even funny. He may not be as explosive as Boogie but is so strong and tough. But what he seems to have that boogie didn’t is a motor that is running 110% all the time. Everyone says he is slow but i dont see it. He has very good footwork and seems to always be in the right spot at the right time. I’ve also noticed that he has a good form on his jumpshot. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite UK players from thos 2013 class.

  3. Andrew Wiggins Says:

I would fit in great at Syracuse. *humf I wish more programs would try and recruit me ;)

  4. Uncle Wes Says:

Ha ha, DJ is better than DMC ….. Please! DMC was a lottery pick, DJ will not be a lottery pick. He will be at UK for 4 years.

  5. UK fan 4 ever Says:

4.) I never once said he was better than DMC. Are you a Louisville graduate? Or are you just blind. And yes Dakari will be a lottery pick because he has size and skill and a motor. Please jump off the butt hurt bandwagon.

  6. Dakari Johnson Says:

I will have to work on my Free Throws but I’m a MAN in the post.

  7. UK fan 4 ever Says:

Dakari will average 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks per game at UK. He will be player of the year and the #1 pick in the draft.

  8. BBN Says:

Woo, UK fan 4 ever, I like him also put your predictions are a little early.

  9. Uk fan 4 ever Says:

That last uk fan 4 ever post is not me. Its probably world wide weenie posting in my name…..can KSR make active accounts so we don’t get posers please.

  10. The Bank is Open Says:

This just in: Missouri’s Frank Haith has NCAA investigation coming. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8866585/missouri-tigers-frank-haith-faces-ncaa-allegations-report-says

  11. Confused Says:

UK fan 4 ever = Troll?

  12. gog8ors Says:

    9. sorry man, just couldn’t resist.

  13. Beezer Says:

Hes a more develops version of Nzar, not Boogie. Nothing wrong with that, but he also won’t ever grow as tall as Nzar either. A bit stronger though. Good prospect, but not great one.

  14. UK fan 4 ever Says:

13.) Beezer is a poser! Please ban!

  15. Honest View Says:

Agree with Beezer, he is not Big Cuz, but ithat is ok UK fan 4 ever (nor sure if u are a UK fan). He is good not great.

  16. Confused even more Says:

Is UK fan 4 ever a true UK fan or not?

  17. pooter bob Says:

can somebody help me please? did the tards last win nat’l championship in ’86, or was it the loosiers? it’s been so long i can’t remember

  18. UK fan 4 ever Says:

Well i’m a real UK fan but some one keeps posting in my name which makes it confusing. So if my account says anything negative about any UK player or UK fan it isn’t me posting. I do see the comparison to Nazr but i think Dakari has more skill than Nazr had. Nazr was only 6’11 and DJ is 6’10 so i think he has a chance to outgrow Nazr.

  19. Ridge Runner Says:

18, It happens to me all the time (posting my name). I do think that te aggravation it causes (folks getting the wrong impression) may mean I have to walk away from this site son. I’m still thinking it over but Matt not restricting the site to this day makes me think he never will. His choice but I do think many regulars have and will leave. Just a thought.

  20. Ridge Runner Says:

ouch, unfortunately that truly is me ^ with my misspelled words.

  21. UK fan 4 ever Says:

I’m still butt hurt from my last minute loss to Syracuse. Sorry.

  22. Not as much confused Says:

#18, agree DJ has good Bball skills, but will need to work on his conditioning, footwork (not bad) and jumping ability. While he is big, not very strong with the ball at this point. Not sure if he is a one and done, but with Cal anything is possible. Please don’t ban me if u don’t agree, lol, JK.

  23. Jim Bob Says:

    The Bachelor. Ugh.

  24. ukfan Says:

Please please please please don’t do another bachelor post. I’m literally begging here.. it was the worst post ever. This is a sport website for crying out loud.

  25. Boss Says:

Dakari is not great. He needs a ton of work in order to be an effective college center. Nazr is a good comparison.

  26. IThinkISee Says:

Dakari is the #1 center in the draft. I’m sorry, in the class. What center is going to be back next year in college ball to play with him?

  27. Shawn Says:

Doesnt Dakari play for Montverde In Florida?

  28. WrongBigMan Says:

That is not Dakari on ESPNU

  29. Jroge Says:

He played at 4 today. Lost on a last second three to Findley prep.

  30. Dano Says:

@bFeldmanCBS is tweeting that Clint Hurt got his call from the NCAA re the Shapiro case.

  31. mashburnfan1 Says:

Today was also the 4th game in 5 days in 2 cities for Dakari and Montverde. Only day off was Sunday and they spent that traveling from MO to MA so those guys had to be tired.

  32. Billy Grant Says:

==== The Dakari Johnson I watched in that game vs Findlay …. is ANOTHER project ! He played like he may have been fatigued … he consistently had trouble getting the ball up to the rim …… especially inside the lane …..

He does not have very good jumping ability at this point .. he is a true POWER CENTER on the mode of Cousins ……. needs work on his free throw shooting as do most big men ……

Runs the floor well …….. will NOT be a GREAT shot blocker .. but a good one around four a game ….

Devin Williams was a MUCH SMOOTHHER player, with as much strength …….

If Dakari can develop the 15 ft. shot and some baby hooks ….. he will be a FORCE ! ====

  33. go big blue Says:

    #32 4 blocks per game isn’t great? A.D. averaged 4.7 per game.

  34. MC Says:

This guy will get in foul trouble a lot. He’s slow to get off the ground but so big it’s hard to get over or around him. He doesn’t have the foot speed or agility that Cousins has. He’s also not a great finisher. However, if he can get 10 boards a game and limit other bigs from scoring he should be fine. I see him playing 20-22 minutes or so a game next season. He may block 2 shots a game if the guys go at him and into his body since he’s so slow to get off the ground. No way he gets 4 a game. I say he’s a combo of Nazr and Cousins. He’s definitely a project.

  35. MC Says:

From the games I’ve watched of Lee compared to Dakari, I’m not sure how Dakari is rated higher other than his size and teams ranking. Maybe it’s the level of competition idk?
