It’s been a long senior season for Julius Randle since fracturing his right foot in late November. The nation’s No. 1 power forward has been sidelined with the injury and forced to watch his Prestonwood Christian teammates from the bench. But he’s nearing a comeback to the hardwood and hopes to play in the McDonald’s All-American game in early April. Randle wrote about dealing with the injury in his latest blog post for USA Today High School Sports. He also discusses his excitement about his upcoming visit to N.C. State and future visits to Kansas and Texas.
There is very little mention of Kentucky in the blog post, but he did say he talks to Coach Cal from time to time. ”He checks on me and checks on my mom, but I think the main reason we click is because we have similar mindsets. We’re both go-getters. We battle. We compete. I love that about him.”

That’s Randle’s wife in the picture. Or was. Too bad she passed away in a tragic slushee factory explosion accident. As she lay on the ground on the private island where she lived in Idaho, covered in exploded grape slushee, she told Julius with her last breath “Go to Kentucky or I will haunt you.” Julius is such a courageous and faith-centered young man to continue his recruitment despite this tragedy.
