[Moderated by Matt Jones, Drew Franklin and Tyler Thompson]
Yesterday, some rather unflattering pictures circulated on Twitter of John Wall from a recent practice. Wall has spent the past several months recovering from a knee injury and Wizards head coach Randy Wittman said that Wall “is not where he should be” when it comes to conditioning. The Wizards hope Wall will be able to play on Saturday night.
It’s okay, John. The camera always adds a few pounds. You got this.

I wish I looked like that.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:36 am
Ouch
January 9th, 2013 at 10:37 am
Pretty sure that J. W. has been training with Cameron Mills.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:40 am
Looks like his training regiment to recover from injury would put Adrian Petersen’s to shame.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:42 am
thats not him….look at the color tone at the neck area…and he is under contract with reebok…he aint wearing addidas crap…child please!
January 9th, 2013 at 10:43 am
pretty sure it’s hard to keep extra weight off when you can’t run on your bum knee, and to compare anyone to AP is ridiculous because AP is a freak.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:46 am
Poor photoshop.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:47 am
I’m confused, how was he supposed to stay in shape again? Usually bum knees keep you from running very effectively in case you guys don’t play a lot of ball
January 9th, 2013 at 10:48 am
at #5, he’s wearing Adidas because they have a contract with the NBA to be their gameday/practice jersey sponsor.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:52 am
If his knee is healthy I bet you could add 15 lbs to him and he would still be a better athlete than a lot of pro PG’s.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:56 am
The camera angle makes him look a little chubbier than he really is. Regardless, it’s not a bad thing that he added a little weight to his frame as he won’t get knocked around so easily. When you have a bum knee, you can’t keep the pounds from creeping on. He’ll lose most of that weight within a few months.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:01 am
6. with anything close to a proper diet, it is very easy to keep weight off – working out or not. If this is actually him, there is NO excuse for him to let himself get to this level. He is being paid millions of dollars to stay in shape and get back to his team. I don’t care if he couldn’t walk the whole damn time. Get in a pool.
But I doubt this is him.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:02 am
Posting this fake picture shows somebody’s ignorance.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:10 am
this is BS…Wall wouldn’t allow himself to look like a mini Charles Barkley….J-Dub lives in the gym.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:11 am
It is him. Shame.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:13 am
Not buying it. Photoshop and not even a very good job of it. This guy looks like he’s wearing a chubby-skin tank top. BS
January 9th, 2013 at 11:20 am
It IS him. It is all over the Internet and even his coach said he is overweight. This is the worst picture though look :
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BADaw6lCIAARx01.jpg:large
He got a little chubby. It is not that bad and I am sure he will lose it soon but it is disappointing nonetheless. Derrick Rose currently looks like he ran a marathon a week while lifting for a year and his injury was worse…
January 9th, 2013 at 11:22 am
17. in total shock…but yea…he should lose that weight without any problems…wonder if all that losing with the Wizards had something to do with it.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:24 am
Proof that it’s fun to photoshop John Wall:

January 9th, 2013 at 11:28 am
Its hard to do cardio when you cant use your legs…
January 9th, 2013 at 11:29 am
We now know who bought up all the Twinkies before they disappeared.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:32 am
Round mound of dishing out assists and third servings of mashed potatoes apparently.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:36 am
Can’t condition or run so that hurts rehab, but a healthy diet would keep him from looking like that. Love to see a Raleigh NC native succeed. The kid will bounce back, he was probably just enjoying some time off. Still young.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:39 am
Give him a break!!! I would be fat to if i had his bank account. He won’t be anywhere close to where he needs to be until next season!!! But if he shows up looking like that and his game hasn’t improved then u can put him in the “BUST” category….
January 9th, 2013 at 11:41 am
All you critics need to shut the hell up with your nonsense. I bet he loses it quicker than you fat bastards could.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:42 am
Christ, you can’t post a picture on the internet anymore without people screaming “photoshop!” when it clear is NOT an altered image. Common sense: Wall has had an injured knee. He could not exercise the way he normally would. He put on a little weight. There is still obvious muscle definition under the flab. He is young and will burn it off quickly with an NBA trainer when he is healthy. Not a big deal and nothing surprising.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:43 am
Maybe this is just me but if I looked like that I would b loving life. U ppl r acting like he has a spare tire or something. Who gives a damn if he added 15 lbs. if he can turn that into muscle he will b a better player for it. Y’all act like he won’t b able to dunk nemore now. Now if he looked like the Wayans brother from The great White Hype, then there might b a problem
January 9th, 2013 at 11:43 am
Wonder how many people would have something to say if they had to post a pic of themselves without a shirt on……Go 4 months without being able to exercise to move around and see how that goes…..people are so naive…
January 9th, 2013 at 11:49 am
Why is this even news? This guy was in town for less than a year. THis is not UK news. Please only post news about current UK players. We don’t care about the NBA. Never have. Never will. If you are going to give me former UK player news only tell me about players who cared enough to stick around for 4 years and are now UK legends.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:53 am
MOOBS
January 9th, 2013 at 11:59 am
Jerry Tipton has been in the bathroom moaning for 1/2 an hour.
January 9th, 2013 at 12:01 pm
Kentucky fans for you folks. They will sell you out in a heartbeat if you can’t do anything for them. I’m shocked Tyler Thompson didn’t use the other photo’s that showed it was just a bad angle.
January 9th, 2013 at 12:06 pm
32 — What did you say?
January 9th, 2013 at 12:07 pm
“John you are doing a wonderful job following my diet plan. Now those sweaters will fit just perfectly.”
January 9th, 2013 at 12:08 pm
This really isn’t a big deal and of course he enjoyed life. He’s a young, rich kid. But those that say you need tons of cardio to keep the weight off are a bit misinformed. Changing my diet this past year was the biggest benefit I have ever made in my life. If he was disciplined with a healthy diet, I guarantee he wouldn’t have put on much weight, if any, at all. Not with his age and metabolism.
January 9th, 2013 at 12:10 pm
All of you who are making fun of Wall being “overweight” please follow these steps to remedy your feelings…
1) post a picture of yourself without a shirt on
2) post a picture of you shaking David Stern’s hand after being selected #1 in the NBA draft
3) post a picture of you dunking on Jerry Stackhouse when you were still in high school
4) now shut up
January 9th, 2013 at 12:19 pm
33 Considering your likely low level education, I doubt you would be able to comprehend any better if I explained something to you that I shouldn’t have to explain in the first place.
January 9th, 2013 at 12:26 pm
Even if this picture is fake, John Wall is another bad season from a being a total bust.
January 9th, 2013 at 12:42 pm
Nothing says multi-million dollar athlete like capri pants.

Just glad to hear he is playing and I hope he gets into better shape….got tix to see the Wiz vs the Rockets in February….was getting worried that he wouldn’t play at all this season.
January 9th, 2013 at 1:15 pm
#29- I wish you would have prefaced your (moronic) comment with, “Hey everyone, I’m about to say something absolutely absurd, inacurate, and down right stupid.” Its just that way I can save myself 4 seconds and don’t have to waste another minute pointing out the fact that you’re an idiot. You’re the kind of stupid that can’t be fixed. You probably attribute America’s lack of geographical knowledge to the lack of maps… because you’re stupid. You might even think stupid is spelled, s-t-o-o-p-i-d, and not even in the fun, I’m-making-a-Mark-Stoops-comment kind of way. Just. shut. up.
January 9th, 2013 at 1:15 pm
I’m not sure how he could gain weight…the closest Cheddar’s to Washington DC is 77 miles away.
January 9th, 2013 at 1:18 pm
That’s a bad angle and a horrible quality pic. Here’s more pics from the same practice.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BADaw6lCIAARx01.jpg:large
January 9th, 2013 at 1:18 pm
Jesus, there is a whole lot of stupid going on here. A Couple things:
1. The picture is not fake, nor is it a photoshop.
2. This has already been cleared up. John Wall is not fat, it was all in the angle. Here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/wp/2013/01/08/evaluating-john-walls-torso/
Good Lord.
January 9th, 2013 at 1:23 pm
Being able to not use your legs does not explain man-boobs. Nevertheless, he is in much better shape than I and has a lot more going for him–just disappointed to think that he may have let himself go.
January 9th, 2013 at 1:25 pm
well, the other angles do not look like the one in the KSR post . . . I may stand corrected
January 9th, 2013 at 1:51 pm
I remember being that age, although it’s not easy to remember that far back. He’ll lose that weight in no time.
January 9th, 2013 at 1:54 pm
I wish the fans that bash about the players staying only 1 year and talking about becoming legends need to go stand on I75 blindfolded. That is not the world we live in……Anthony Davis is more of a legend at UK than any of the players in my lifetime and I started really following in the early to mid 90′s when i was in middle school.
I dont give a shit about any of the players from the 60′s 70′s etc…..
Its about winning….if they come stay 1 year and win thats good enough for me. Not every one and done will be a legend but some have the ability to do it in 1 year…..like wall, MKG, davis, Andrew wiggins, Harrison Twins….lol
January 9th, 2013 at 2:10 pm
From 2011 article:
Wall opened his pantry door to display bags of Doritos and Funyuns and boxes of oatmeal cream pies, Honey Buns and Cinnamon Toast Crunch bars, which he sometimes packs with him on road trips. “I got all the snacks. All I do is eat snacks,” Wall said, before revealing more junk food options in his freezer and refrigerator. “I don’t eat vegetables. My mom got to make those.”
January 9th, 2013 at 2:44 pm
I can relate.
January 9th, 2013 at 3:15 pm
#27-you can’t turn fat into muscle-it’s a physical impossibility! Maybe you meant to say “replace” it with muscle? Just sayin.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:37 pm
As a diehard UK fan who knows basketball…..Jon Wall will be a bust. Along with Jorts, Liggins, Teague, Miller, and Lamb.
The Kentucky Effect got them all paid, but it wont keep them in the league.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:38 pm
And of course Orton too. He busted from day one so not even worthy of mention.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:40 pm
I still think Jones will be a solid NBA role player.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:52 pm
Good grief people, if he really had that gut do you think he would be running around shirtless where the paps could get pics? Get Real !!!
January 9th, 2013 at 6:53 pm
53 — You are a complete idiot. First off, it’s John and not Jon. Secondly, it’s pretty obvious John Wall will have a long NBA career. Jorts and Liggins have overachieved in just making the NBA. Miller and Lamb will remain in the league for years to come. I’m not sure about Teague, but your hate on our players is shameful. You act like being an NBA superstar is easy. What a jackass you are.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:54 pm
56 — They are real pics dude. Look up the Washington Post’s site and see for yourself. There are other pics that show that is a bad angle, but has put on some weight. I don’t see what the big deal is. He will lose it quickly once he is totally healthy.
January 9th, 2013 at 7:30 pm
What’s he going to do? Help the Wizards win games? Real right, he’s John Wall not Jesus Christ. The kid will be fine, some people talk about it being shameful and disappointing. What were you doing at 21 or however old he is? Worry about yourselves, I’m sure you have faults you could work on.
January 10th, 2013 at 5:51 am
I’d like to see anyone get in top condition sitting on their rear all day. Conditioning requires cardio and you can’t get that on your rear. Not to the level they expect. Anyone saying he is lazy about conditioning just doesn’t know squat about it.
January 10th, 2013 at 9:22 am
Can’t believe all the negatives on JW. He has been down for months with a knee injury. That pretty much shuts down conditioning. He’ll be fine in a couple of months!
