It’s official. Dakari Johnson, the number one center in the Class of 2013, has committed to the University of Kentucky. Johnson cited a great fit, the honesty of coaches, and wanting to win a national championship as key factors in his decision.
With that, Kentucky has the No. 1 center, No. 1 point guard, and No. 1 shooting guard in the class of 2013, with the No. 1 small forward and No. 1 power forward still viable options. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. Coach Calipari is the king of recruiting.

Im glad Johnson is coming and wants to be a part of the program, but I was really wanting Willie to come back for another year. While I’m glad Cal gets these kids to the L and doesn’t hold them back at the same time pushing a kid like Willie to the league before he is ready isn’t right.

Calipari should go down as the best recruiter college sports has ever known but the recruiting violations might tarnish his record. Still don’t believe he’s especially good at coaching but when you stockpile talent like this, you really don’t have to coach much. If he makes one more final four, he’s a hall of famer, may not even need that. Here’s hoping Rozier, Gill, and Jones turn out as good as advertised. Go Cards.

–and the character of these kids we are beginning to reel in is tops as well. The ability is what rankings are all about but Cal can select the best who have character. Next year, that all seems to be one in the same but still…a nice trait to bring along.

This is an awesome commitment, as we need Johnson as much as he needs to be a Wildcat. Even if Cauley-Stein returns, Johnson will get plenty of playing time at the five. Everybody better stand in line next year to get some tickets. This will be the epic team that should make some history for us. Cal and UK are the ultimate dangerous combination!

yeah 28 Cal just rolls the ball out there. How is UCLA doing with the top recruiting class in the nation this year? They come to Cal because he and his staff know how to coach and teach the game. The kids know they are going to get better plus have the best shot at the national championship. If he wasn’t a good floor coach they wouldn’t come with such consistency.

i get silly excited everytime we get another 1 and done. There is not 1 school that would turn em down. Everybody wants to be us & its so fun being a good example to thousands of little brothers across america! I’m stoked n thankful to be alive!!!!! The class is overloaded. Looks pretty crowded already and Derek Willis is likely out the door. Any of the current class thinking of staying have to be leery as this is already arguably the best class ever. If they do by some chance pull off Randle or Wiggins the pressure will be on from day 1 for an undefeated season. This does not bode well for the Wildcats.

This is a kentucky wildcat athletic website ! Cardinal fans go to your website and talk about it. The reason everyone comes to kentucky is because they want to compete for a national championship and get to the league. What’s the problem with that? Every school in the country would love to trade places with kentucky and don’t tell me they wouldn’t. Every school would love to have our recruits, fan base, coaching staff, etc. None of them would turn them down. So seriously quit being jealous and just congratulate the young man for making a life decision. Coach Cal is a exciting coach to play for and he develops young talent better than any coach ever! You win two in a row but seem to forget that before then, you lost 4 in a row including when you were a top 10 team. You made a coaching chance and now you are better. Well, we finally have a good coach and good staff, so let the next season play out before you decide you are head and shoulders better. Also, I find it funny you guys think you are just so awesome in basketball since you finally won, it’s like you forget you had lost 4 in a row including 2 last season. #24,I have it from a VERY reputable source close friends with Cal that says the only player Cal is pushing for the league is Noel, that doesn’t mean they won’t jump but at this point I know he is not pushing them

I must have overlooked it somewhere…I am sure there is a ruloe against UK getting 4 or 5 top 10 recruits each year.
I will read the rule book again, I am sure it must be in there somewhere.
Cannot find it but will see if we can get it inserted before next year.

After we get the first few 5 stars, it just doesn’t matter that much anymore. What’s important is who of these guys are the Terrance Jones or Doron Lambs who stick it out. That will determine when we win #9.

Wow, what a class and to believe we aren’t even finished yet! I honestly believe we will get Wiggins. I think he is just trying to get some hype before he decides. I also believe Willie will be back. This year is a weak draft, but he is projected all over the boards unlike Noel, Poythress, and Goodwin who are consistently top 20. This draft is also loaded with potential big men. Next draft, not so much. He could be THE big man of next years draft unlike this draft where he is probably the 5th or 6th best. Noel, Poythress, and Goodwin are all gone. Some think AP will come back, but the NBA drafts on potential unfortunately. They’ve seen what he can do, plus it’s still not even the middle of the season. He has plenty of time to grow. Also, if Lee and Wiltjer are our PF options I believe Cal will have Lee be the starter. Kid is great at defense and is a rebounding machine. We don’t need him to score if we have the others pieces we have now. I’m sure Willie might also play some PF next season if him and Johnson are in the game together, just like him and Noel now. This is really just all of my 2 cents, but as our starting lineup next season I see :
PG – Harrison
SG – Harrison
SF – Wiggins
PF – Lee
C – Cauley-Stein
Bench: Johnson, Young, Wiltjer… who knows about Harrow, but I think he could play himself into the 2nd round if he continues to play well.

There are adequate schollies. The walkons will give them up if necessary and Beckham graduates. The more players we get the better depth we will have. Cal has shown that you don’t have to be “the man” at UK to improve and get drafted. He won’t push anybody out the door if they are not ready. Players know that. Smart and confident players know that competing against best every day in practice makes them better. Those that are afraid of competition go elsewhere.

It is getting to the point where it seems Cal visits a recruit and gets that recruit to convince Cal why he should play at Kentucky. They see how special it is and want to be a part of it. In every presser the commit states how the coaches tell them how hard it will be and how pressure will be put on them every day. Think about that for a minute. Would you buy a car from a dealership that told you “after you sign on the dotted line… you will find it difficult to do business with us”? No you wouldn’t unless that was the greatest car on the planet.

2 ways to look at things:
If we get Wiggins we all know how special that would be. If he however went to FSU 1) It makes FSU better but not a threat. 2) If we get Randle then we have a starting 5 of:
PG- Harrison/ Harrow (1 or 2)
2G- Harrison
SF- Young/ Wilcher
PF Randle/ Lee/ Willis
C- Cauley-Stein/ Johnson
Plus if we get Randle then Florida can’t. I can’t see it being anything but great if we get Wiggins or Randle. I think I would die if we got both.
