“Fluffy fingaaas.” -Coach Cal
Despite the loss, Kentucky fans have a lot to look forward to. Seriously. The major problems we saw, namely free-throw shooting, are also some of the easiest things to fix. Keeping in mind that it’s just December, and not even SEC play yet, some (non-UK) folks on Twitter seem to have the right idea as to what this performance really meant:
“I’d love to play Kentucky in March.”No one.

Finalanalysis of Cards W over BBN – Cats will win SEC – Gators & Mizzou only threats ! BBN will have a gr8 deal yet to get excited about
— Dick Vitale (@DickieV) December 29, 2012
Anyone doubts @ukcoachcalipari can flat out COACH isa hater-as Pitino said the man is helluva coach – Team is getting better -Will win SEC
— Dick Vitale (@DickieV) December 29, 2012
Both Seth and Dickie recognize that this game displayed a lot of growth for the Wildcats, especially when you compare it to previous efforts, like the ones against Baylor and Notre Dame. Minus some free throw issues, the hustle and overall gamesmanship on display from the Cats was great to see for UK fans. Anybody that says they expected that team to make a comeback like the one they did is either lying or Nostradamus’ long-lost descendant. The fight and tenacity it took to come back from that deficit was awesome, and once things get smoothed out and under control, there’s little doubt that this will be scary team in March.
Dickie V. now has the Cats pegged as the Southeastern Conference favorites, after lots of hype was given to the backcourt-centric Mizzou and Florida teams earlier in the season. Now, though, UK has a lot of confidence going into SEC play, which will start after Wednesday’s matchup with Eastern Michigan.
So let’s look at the bright side, Cats fans. Today sucked, and there were a few plays down the stretch that could have turned this into a W, but it is what it is. And it isn’t all that bad.

Uk, great game… You stink! Go Cards!
December 29th, 2012 at 8:39 pm
This team has shown tremendous growth over just a few weeks. When we hit free throws and get a few more game changing plays per game we are scary good! The ceiling for this team is still a long way away. Today was a L, only if this team didn’t grow any. So I echo coach Wooden,”results aren’t the criteria for success, it’s the effort made for acheivment that is most important. Cats will win the Sec if they play as hard as this last game.
December 29th, 2012 at 8:43 pm
We are Alex Poythress away from being all but unbeatable if they can play like they did tonight the rest of the year.
December 29th, 2012 at 8:51 pm
I am confused. Didn’t mean to post here. Off my meds. Sorry.
December 29th, 2012 at 8:53 pm
Earlier in the year we understood the health issue was holding back Harrow. Has anyone heard what the issue is with AP?
December 29th, 2012 at 8:54 pm
I hate the Cards as much as the next UK fan, but seeing the pictures of Dieng and his family are just heartwarming. I hate that we lost, but part of me is glad that his parents did not come half-way around the world to see their son lose. Feel free to troll me for that, but whatever.

#5 – his balls have yet to descend
December 29th, 2012 at 8:58 pm
I am suffering from Vaginitis…. AKA playing like a pu$$y
December 29th, 2012 at 9:01 pm
I hope your right 2) but this season seems to be shaping into a season full of moral victories…
December 29th, 2012 at 9:03 pm
This is a down year in college basketball, which is why teams like Indiana, Louisville, and a mediocre Duke team are doing so well. UNC and Kentucky are both down and “rebuilding” (if you can consider waiting for the next crop of recruits as rebuilding).
December 29th, 2012 at 9:05 pm
Poythress flat out stinks, and needs to keep sitting right over there with Twany, both are useless to the team. both are on uk welfare.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:08 pm
Dickie V also said uofl will be cutting down the nets this year. Still think he knows what is up?

“Remember, results aren’t the criteria for success — it’s the money dished out by Sam Gilbert that is most important.” — John Wooden
December 29th, 2012 at 9:13 pm
Alex must have liked working at Wendy’s, because he is costing himself MILLIONS with this absolute lack of effort.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:13 pm
Until Coach plays the best players the majority of the minutes, this team does not reach its potential. That means Mays gets the 7th most minutes instead of leading the teams in minutes.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:14 pm
8. Don’t insult our women’s team that way. They are downright excellent this year. They’ve got more balls than Poythress.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:15 pm
With one minute left in the first half Poythress took Noel’s free throws. Noel was fouled and went to the line. line. The buzzer went off for a substitution and during the commotion Noel and Poythress switched spots and Poythress took the shots.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:16 pm
Wooden is flat out wrong… Results are all that matter for success. Who was more successfull cats in 2010 or 2011…. 2011 or 2012.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:19 pm
15 – look, I know Polson and Long need more minutes, but there are only so many minutes in the game
December 29th, 2012 at 9:19 pm
Alex and Cal basically don’t like each other. Alex is playing out the string and only worried about not getting hurt. does not care about the team.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:21 pm
Hearing Hood regrets not transferring this year. Can’t believe he thinks he is good enough to play here.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:21 pm
Ryan Harrow is becoming the point guard needed by this team. Team needs work with free throws (obviously), passing against zone, bringing ball upcourt against press, get Alex Poythress on board. Toughness and resilience seem to be much improved. I like our team!
December 29th, 2012 at 9:25 pm
If you have to quote Duke Vitale And Seth Davis LOL things really can’t be that good.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:26 pm
Observations from today’s game:
1. 10/22 at the line and Coach Cal saying in his presser he was not concerned
I bet he was concerned when Lamb stepped to the line last April, this team has to improve in this areab, otherwise its hacka Noel or hacka WCS all night
2. We have more overall talent than UL
3. UL has the best player with the IT factor in Russ Smith
He is the John Wall, the Eric Bledsole, the Brandon Knight, the Anthony Davis, the MKG that UK has
Has had the past few years
4. As much as we need Archie to score, he is never going to buy into Coach Cals system like the payers did last year, he is just like Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford and where are they now?
5. AP will be back next year, we still ave only seen a glimpse of his potential one time, Duke game
6. Ryan Harrow is getting to where we need him but he did not manage game and threw up to much garbage, but hey he has only been at it less than 1 month
7. Gotlieb < Behanan<Rectal Exam
December 29th, 2012 at 9:26 pm
I thought Louisville didn’t exist. Now we are talking about moral victories against them.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:29 pm
bankshot (15) gets it right.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:29 pm
This is what I know -
UK fell asleep against Duke for 37 minutes than finally showed up. By then, it was too late.
UK against ND forgot to guard 3pt shooters.
UK tonight shot worse than middle school girls at the free throw line.
I won’t question Cal or his coaching. I think the players are showing a lack of team work, basic basketball 101 a desire to win. My fellow UK fans, expect a 10 loss season.
If UK would play for an entire 40 minutes, they would be 11-1 this season, including winning tonight’s game.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:30 pm
25) 1-4
December 29th, 2012 at 9:33 pm
Seeing Matt Jones’ butt cut makes me want to oil up my a@s and let him go to town.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:34 pm
Wow, I’m not sure if this board is on meltdown mode, moral victory mode, or cry me a river mode.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:36 pm
I Stil hate Louisville!! Hope they burn their school and gym down celebrating their 1st win over us since Cal started. Bunch of criminals on dope.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:37 pm
29) how’d you know?
December 29th, 2012 at 9:39 pm
31) Cal buys 4 or 5 NBa players each year. He should win. He had six pros last year and still could not blow uofl out. uofl had zero pros.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:45 pm
@ 33
Cal didn’t buy a player (proof) and won the National Title. UofL hasn’t won a title in 26 years (and won’t win this year). End of debate.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:56 pm
A KY site run by a Duke alumnus quoting John Wooden? With a 3 year history of bashing a former KY coach?
Egads. This is what happens when you let lawyers run things.
December 29th, 2012 at 9:59 pm
@ 35
Where he got his education means nothing. My friend Matt went to UK and loves UofL. My friend Shannon went to UofL and loves UK. What’s best for you is where you go. I don’t knock Matt Jones because he went to Duke. He is clearly a UK fan.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:26 pm
With all the talk about Poythress, has anyone actually heard him comment on what his difficulties might be? Anyone?
December 29th, 2012 at 10:44 pm
Ohh yeah
December 29th, 2012 at 10:46 pm
#15 and #26 I agree 100%.
December 29th, 2012 at 10:57 pm
Why would anyone want to get on a rivals site?
Why would anyone belittle a freshman basketball player? Years ago these cats would be on a JV team.
Why are UofL fans so damn nasty?
December 29th, 2012 at 11:04 pm
Y’all need to calm down about Poythress. People are throwing around all kinds of comparisons to Rhodes and such, but I think the most obvious one is none other than TERRANCE JONES. Think about how long it took Jones to get the dumbfounded look off his face, start playing with heart/emotion, etc. And he was here TWO YEARS. Poythress is way too athletic and talented to not figure things out. Be patient, Cats fans. These kids need our support, not bashing on some 18 year olds.
Also, for people questioning Mays’ playing time: Cal plays Mays because he is a VETERAN and doesn’t lose his flippin’ mind the minute things start to go south. Without Mays calming effect, we would have Goodwin bullrushing the rim every touch or Harrow throwing “lobs” to Noel who is being boxed out. I am willing to go on record saying that Mays will be a HUGE part of this team offensively going forward. Kid has a CLIP and will start to light it up from 3-pt land, write it down.
December 30th, 2012 at 4:28 am
Poythress couldn’t hold Rhodes’s jock strap and there is no comparison between him and Terrence who was the team leader his freshman season, but recognized that there was still a lot of improvement to be had. Granted, Poythress is athletic, but the kid is a head case and reminds me of Richard Madison who also never panned out. There just isn’t that “will to win” attitude that Jones or Rhodes had.
As for Mays, you’re entitled to your opinion. Since becoming a BIG Blue follower in 1958, I’d put him in the same class as Michael Porter in the UK history book. You’re willing to criticize Goodwin, who is either trying to draw a foul or a followup dunk by Noel or Willie, but not Mays? Holy Moley. We are witnessing the maturation of Harrow into a decent PG and you want to criticize him and defend Mays? You, Sir, know not of what you speak.
December 30th, 2012 at 7:32 am
There is no moral victory in a loss. Just ask U of L. They return last years FF team, and we reload. The difference for UK is that this years team is late finding out who they are and how they need to play. They will be fine.
December 30th, 2012 at 7:36 am
Cats didnt lose, they just ran out of time. Im impressed by this teams improvement. They are going to be great
December 30th, 2012 at 7:37 am
Coach Cal didn’t have a need to convince this crazy Kentucky Wildcat fan. I don’t like to credit the traitorous lil Ricky for anything, except that the intense effort of his players for deflections had stepping into lazy cross court passes by our Wildcats far too often. Rick always has stressed deflections and I am sure, many on the Lousyville team have new “tips” sewn into their jerseys.
Correctable Telegraph passing Pitiner probably noted in scouting reports.
Go Cats! Go Coach Cal and Staff!
December 30th, 2012 at 12:14 pm
Best game I have seen this year. UL is the deepest and strongest talentwise at every position of any top ten team. They must have been sleep walking when Duke beat them in Nov. Today they would destroy Duke. UK if they continue to improve(which they will) is the only team capable of stopping the Cards from winning it all as Dickie V. said yesterday.
December 30th, 2012 at 7:49 pm
Thought cupcakes were supposed to be pre-conference, but this year the cupcakes are in conference. If we can’t win the SEC we should give up.
December 30th, 2012 at 9:31 pm
AP is waiting for the season clock to run out – he seems uninterested. He’s looking for the NBA. KW has been slow, is slow and will always be slow both phyically and mentally. Cats don’t have enough. Going to be just a so-so year for us.
