Last night during the Sacramento/Dallas game, DeMarcus Cousins took a cheap shot at the Mavericks’ OJ Mayo (judge for yourself from the video above). Both Cousins and Mayo received technical fouls, and afterwards, Cousins said “it wasn’t intentional, but there was a lot of trash talk.” Mayo’s reaction was a little different. From ESPN Dallas:
Mayo said he told Cousins to “play basketball and you’ve got a chance to be a good player,” but that type of conduct made him a “garbage player.”
“That guy has some mental issues, man,” Mayo said. “He’s a talented player. He has an opportunity to be the face of that organization, but I don’t think he wants it. … He’s immature, man. Big maturity problem. Hopefully, he’ll grow up out of it and become great. He definitely has the talent to.”
We all love Boogie, but there’s no denying that he hasn’t seemed like his normal self since entering the league. At Kentucky, DeMarcus was goofy, happy, and yes, at times immature, but nothing compared to his behavior as of late. DeMarcus is a beast on the court, but like a certain crop of Cats, he just doesn’t look like he’s having any fun. Even John Calipari brought Cousins into his office during the summer and made him watch the infamous 10-minute Kentucky highlight reel, encouraging his former player to “recapture the joy” in his game.
How can DeMarcus get his groove back?
