We were all pretty excited when Neal Brown accepted the position as Kentucky’s new offensive coordinator yesterday. But one particular recruit was really excited: Ryan Timmons. Timmons, one of the top high school players in the state, called Brown yesterday and the two spoke briefly.
The call follows a visit from UK’s new defensive coordinator, DJ Eliot, last week. Afterwards, the Herald-Leader interviewed Timmons’ coach Chris Tracy about the visit and how Timmons feels about the new Kentucky staff. Stoops had yet to announce his offensive coordinator, but it was clear that Timmons wanted Brown:
On the possibility of Neal Brown being named offensive coordinator:
“I think that would be a very smart move, but I also know (Brown) is up for some head coaching jobs. So that would be a very tough decision on his part.”
Is Timmons familiar with Brown’s offense?
“It’s our offense. It’s identical. I remember watching Neal at clinics. I’ve got one of their DVDs.”
Would Ryan be comfortable playing for Brown?
“Neal will have his own tweaks and things that he’s done over the years. But (Ryan) should be able to fit right in right away. And, to be honest with you, it’s not that hard. That’s the great thing about that offense. It’s very simple.”
Let’s take a look at one of the most important in-state recruits on Kentucky’s list, Franklin County’s Ryan Timmons:

Considering: Kentucky, Arkansas, Illinois, Purdue, West Virigina, Ohio State and others
Past Visits: Arkansas (September 22), Purdue (November 2)
Future Visits: Ohio State (January 10), Kentucky “the weekend before or after that”

What a get this would be if we can get him. Throw Timmons in with Sweat (assuming he gets his grades straightened out), Collins, Legree, Robinson, Yancey, and maybe Whitlow (don’t know if he’d be a good receiver or not, just seems like a good idea)and we’ve got ourselves a very talented and young core of recievers!

1) How much longer is OSU under post-season ban, if at all?
OSU is the far better program, with the title-winning coach and a perfect regular season record this year, but where would he fit on their depth chart? He could set records in a Brown offense, theoretically, and get more visibility as a top star than just one of many. (The same thing people pitch to try to beat UK basketball for recruits.)

This kid looks solid, but I will reserve judgment on him until college. He is playing a very low level of competition and in comparison to Trinity’s James Quick, he doesn’t look nearly as fast.

#18 – You are correct. Have watched him as a sprinter and checked his times – he is not quite as fast as Quick, but even Quick does not yet possess the kind of speed you see from big time SEC receivers. Quick and Timmons run high 10′s in the 100m. Top guys will be mid 10′s at this level. Now, they are all fast, but every 10th is a step.

Timmons 40 time is 4.4. Quicks is 4.7!

I am a Timmons fan as well but Quick is much faster than just a 4.7. Kid ran a 10.65 100 and sub 21.00 200 as a Junior at KHSAA State Track Meet. Both are great players and can play in the SEC, and both would excel in Neal Brown’s system.

Kentayvus Hopkins is 15 miles from Lexington, and IMO is just as good if not better than Timmons. If this new regime doesn’t get on board soon, he will end up at UofL Gtech or Western…

Quick’s 4.7 was laser-timed at a high-school combine. He has run 4.4 and 4.5 plenty of times on other occasions. A 4.4 kid does not run a 4.4 every time. Quick’s 200 meters time is a reflection of his true speed. He shattered the state record last spring with a 20.94. That time was faster than 14 runners in the qualifying heats at the London Olympics. He ran a PR of 10.7 in the 100 meters and that is blazing fast, but that 200 meter time of 20.94 is insane fast. That time displays he has top-end SEC speed. Anyone that has seen Quick plays knows he will be one of the best college players. I can see him winning a Heisman trophy if he goes to Ohio St.

I don’t think you have to have blazing speed to thrive in the Air-Raid offense. Obviously, it helps, but both Quick and Timmons would thrive.

31) Ohio state hasn’t offered the kid because they may not have a scholarship spot for him especially since I’m pretty sure that had some scholarship reductions due to the NCAA issues.

doesnt impress me. if you look at who Franklin Co played and the level of compitition in 5A football. Hes good, but not SEC good. He dances to much alomost as if hes afraid to get hit.

Timmon PR in 100 is 10.61. Take the top ten 100meter times between Quick and Timmons and Timmons has 8 of the 10. Take top 200 meter times and Quick has 7 of the 10. Take the top 40 times and Timmons takes it 9 of the 10. Timmons is Quicker and faster but Quick gets him after 150 meters.
Bowling Green blew away St X and Trinity struggled 2X with StX. I think BG would beat Trinity and Cooper played with BG and FC played competitive with Cooper.
I saw 2 games with Trinity and their comp level wasnt as good as you think. The team from Ind was horribly slow and the team from Tenn not that good. I would bet Moeller didnt have a kid faster than 4.8. Now those teams are well coached and many more boys to chose from meaning they do not have to play both ways. My challenge to you Trinity fans is this. Beyond Ramsey for the Tenn team can you name one great player from Trinitys competition?
