Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals are packing up their 2012 Final Four t-shirts and first aid kits and moving over to the ACC, just 14 months after he gave UConn hell for considering the same move. In case you forgot, because it looks like he did, Rick Pitino called UConn’s interest in the ACC “the dumbest thing he’s ever heard of.”
Rick told sNY.tv, “With that being said, how can you want to leave? Why would you want to leave? My biggest mistake I made in my life is when I left Camelot [Kentucky]” to lead the Boston Celtics in 1997. “They’re leaving Camelot. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of.”
He didn’t stop there, either. Rick took a jab at ACC basketball coaches on his blog a few days later:
“The ACC, namely certain basketball coaches, did not like the amount of exposure Big East basketball was getting nationally and the amount of tournament teams selected the past couple of seasons,” he wrote.
Oh, we’re not done. How ’bout this one?
“Don’t run away with a girl after one date when you’ve been dating someone else for three or four years. You’ve been dating this woman for 30 years, show a little respect,” Rick said when Syracuse left the Big East.
What a difference a year makes.

This is a smart move for UL because at this point the ACC might survive. It probably won’t, but UL won’t be any worse off. I would guess the ultimate destination for UL is a conference of misfit city schools who are committed to being competitive in athletics, but don’t bring enough to the table to hang with the big boys.

What i love about this whole situation is that in a few years Louisville will be looking for a new conference all over again. The SEC and Big Ten will raid the ACC and most likely take UNC DUKE Va Tech NC State or a few others such as Clemson or Florida State. and leave Louisville in a awful conference once again. At that point Louisville will end up on the outside looking in once again.

Before all the musical chairs has stopped, the ACC will look like the Big (L)eastX2. LMAO, if UNC and Duke go to either the SEC or Big 10 you just KNOW that the rest are going to follow suit.
Seems to be this is just the start of the demise of the NCAA after all. I knew Cal was a great coach and recruiter, but his having that crystal ball and seeing into the future is just a plus in my book.

They’re all -hores, ready to go to the highest bidder. Louisville would have jumped to the IVY League if the IL would cut their academic requirements in half. Last year, the Big 12 was the best thing since sliced bread, a perfect fit for Louisville. Until they rejected Louisville. Now, the ACC is the best thing since sliced bread, a perfect fit for Louisville…blah blah blah.
I did listen to a few minutes of the conference call, Tommy Turtleneck brought tears to my eyes with his speech.. it sounded like a blushing bride accepting a marriage proposal. Sweet and touching, it was a tribute to Louisville’s dedication to making the ACC proud. (Unless, of course some other conference offers more money!!)

All this bashing of Pitino seems a little misplaced. He saved Kentucky Basketball. We had a drunk before him who wasted the talents of Rex Chapman before leaving us in shambles. Pitino was the first to understand the true power of Kentucky’s history, resources and passion and to market all that to recruits. He brought incredible talent and convinced them to work together towards a goal while sacrificing individual stats. He set the tone and frankly created what Calipari loved about this program to begin with, years ago. Of course Pitino was going to support the Big East openly and call UCONN out. He was trying to save a once great conference. Anyone else on this board in a similar situation would have had the same sentiments. Of course he took the Celtics job. He was offered an incredible opportunity that would only come once and he has openly said he made a mistake. Pitino saved our program. Period.

81. Kentucky has proven that it can live on no matter who screws it up. Kentucky would have survived even if Pitino didn’t coach here so he didn’t “save” our program. Besides, the program made him just as much as he revived the program. If it weren’t for Kentucky, Pitino wouldn’t have had the opportunity to coach the Celtics and leave Camelot for all that money. Pitino has been an embarrassment to college basketball since being at UL and spews nothing but hyperbole. He brings it on himself.

In 1995-96 season I was listening to Rick on his weekly radio program, a caller asked him if his players at the time read and listened to what all the sports announcers were saying about his team being the one to beat for the NC. He told them DO NOT believe in what you read or hear for it’ll be a distraction……It seems to me he should’ve listened to his own words.
In my thinking, he keeps saying and doing things that you’d think a rookie coach would do or say, Not a man who’s been a head coach for over 35 years. He left for greener pastures, or so he thought. He’s made boner moves that even makes the pope cringe. He THEN did the unspeakable by going to an instate rival school, now tell me the truth…..is that a man that has REALLY thought things out?

What Pitino said a year ago about UCONN was true a year ago. Many things have changed and the powerhouses have all bailed from the Big East. Louisville has to get in the ACC now to survive because the Big East has died as a power conference. Louisville is killing it financially. The pack their football and basketball venues and have the largest city tv audience in college basketball tv ratings. They will make $17 million more a year in the ACC. Important variables changed and Louisville reacted. I am a Kentucky guy, but a great story needs a villain. This will keep Louisville relevant going forward and that is a good thing for this great rivalry.

We are jealous. Jealous that we just keep winning big basketball trophies, while you guys have the advantage of having entire generations grow into adulthood and never sniffing the championship.

Jealous of our facilities, athletic director, athletic program as a whole that has managed to do more with less, our football program has hands down been better than UK’s not only this year but the last ten or twenty years, our city, our brand new arena, our new conference where we will be held in higher academic esteem than you, etc.. This is all about football. UL has been desperate to get in a BCS football conference or their program would be all dressed up with no party to attend. Strong would most likely leave if they could not make a move. You can be sure Pitino did not want this, much like he said earlier. Football and Strong are driving this bus. UL football can do well in the weak ACC. Basketball will be another matter. Pitino will publicly bless this move but he didn’t want it.

The Atlantic Coast Conference Council of Presidents has unanimously voted to accept the University of Louisville as its newest member. The vote followed the submission of Louisville’s letter of application.
“With the addition of the University of Louisville, the ACC continues to be well positioned for the future competing at the highest level in all facets of the collegiate experience,” said the ACC Council of Presidents in a joint statement. “The ACC continues to be a vibrant conference that remains steadfast in its commitment to balancing academics and athletics.

Everything that comes out of Rick mouth is a lie, plus Rick hair plugs are too tight. UL fan’s actually think they’ve accomplished something, they are too stupid to realize that the ACC taking them was a desperation move. Like always, UL will get left behind once FSU & Clemson move to the Big 12 & UNC & Duke move to the SEC or Big 10. Right now UL just moving around the deck chairs looking for someone to love them.

Don’t I remember all the Louisville fans trying to convince everyone before the season started that they would go undefeated and win the BCS Championship. Just looked at the current polls,,,,they did not make the top 25 in the BCS poll or the AP. Damn,,,,that must smart a little. Sorry for your luck.

The only thing I can say about Looserville moving to the ACC is that Slick Dick , I mean Slick Rick must have run out of Bars that have nice Tables for his use in the Big East so now he moves on to the ACC for new places to play. Looserville is one of few programs that paid their coach extra for his off-campus sex-affair in a eatery. I wonder how many other programs would have stooped this low and done this ??? I know one program that didn’t put up with sex in the men’s shower.
