UK commit KC Ross-Miller, a point guard in the class of 2010, laced them up this weekend in Lexington as his God’s Academy team took part in the Dunkin’ Donuts National Shootout. Ross-Miller didn’t have a great trip as he put up 10 against St. Catherine’s JV team on Friday and then followed up with 12 points, six assists and four turnovers in last night’s loss to Campbell Memorial (Ohio). He admitted, however, that he might have done some things differently in an effort to impress Kentucky fans and that might have caused his poor play.
Also, Ross-Miller’s teammate, forward Josten Thomas was said to possibly be a target of some possible interest from the Cats, but the 6′7″ junior did not play last night after receiving two technicals in Friday’s game (one for taunting and one for an elbow). According to his coach, he’s getting interest from South Carolina, Ole Miss, UConn, TCU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Oral Roberts.
Here are some of God’s Academy’s highlights from Friday:
And, since we don’t want to end on a downer, here is a KC Ross-Miller highlight video.

is KC #12? I hope so.
January 11th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
nevermind, i guess i could have watched the 2nd video before asking
January 11th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
I know he played like Crap!!! I sure the hell hope he’s better than what he showed this weekend. The Comp wasn’t even that good.
January 11th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
The guy doesn’t have what it
takes to play at UK along with
some other guys BCG has
offered schollies to.
January 11th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
I was at the game last night.
He looked like he was the most talented player on the floor, and he looked to have a lot of potential.
The problem was that his effort sucked and seemed like he wasn’t trying. The crowd noticed, as most people left at halftime, though he did look a little better in the second half
January 11th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
I not saying this guy won’t be good when he gets on campus but if you look at the ‘early’ recruits that BCG signed when he first got here all seem to be under performing. I wonder if BCG wasn’t trying to make a splash on the recruiting seen when he first arrived to show that he could get quality recruits within the program (since many had been critical of the other coaching staff for not bringing in quality recruits). While time will tell whether any of the early guys will contribute to the program when they do arrive on campus, I hope in the future BCG will stay in contact with the young guys but hold-off to offering a scholarship to at least their junior year…I know there are exceptions but it’s very difficult to tell whether or not a 14-16 year old will be effective at the college level. UK shouldn’t have to take those type of risks on players…hopefully, in a couple of years we’ll be back in a position to get our share of top 20 talent and only take risk on in-state talent that might be border line. To me, that’s the recruiting model UK should take…

I read the Tipton article in the Herald Leader today about KC and see that the Armandi kid just joined the team last week. I’m sure that throws a curveball into team chemistry since Armandi wants to take a lot of shots.
The problem was all the kids walking around and the coach sitting there perfectly content with that. If KC’s wondering how he can play better then I’ve got some advice. Go play for another team. It looked like the “Bad News Academy”
On another note… Tim Tebow just announced that he will stay his senior season at the UF pep rally. The funny part watching him limping around since his nuts are completely raw from all the man-love licks he’s been getting the past week.
January 11th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Could you say that Tim Tebow “Peacocks” god? You know with the face paint advertisements?
January 11th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
ask yourself this: Does Dakotah Euton, KC Ross Miller, Vinny Zollo, that Avery kid, and GJ Vilarino still get offers today if Gillispie had waited. I’d say that over half would not. And I’d say a lot of people would agree. I hope his early offers to make a splash don’t turn out to be a major problem. Hood, Ferguson and Orton are highly rated players. Euton, Ross Miller, Zollo, Avery, and Vilarino are not. That’s 3 out of 8 (or 37.5%).
January 11th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
#10, I’d say none would get scholarships. As much as I like BCG, this aspect of his recruiting is very troubling. He is gambling with UK’s success for many years to come. Think of all the star players that pass on UK because of these guys (John Wall for example).
January 11th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
#6, #10,#11
before you make negative comments on kids, how many times have you
seen Miller, Zollo, GJ, and Avery play? How many times have you
seriously looked at who they have played and how they have done?
Just wondering, thanks
January 11th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
#11 Who passed on UK because of these guys? How many? Just like to
know, thanks.
January 11th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
Note to posters on KentuckySportsRadio - anyone who says Avery, GJ,
and Zollo can’t play basketball at this level - don’t listen to
them becauase they obiviously haven’t followed them enough to know
what they are talking about.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
#11 I would really like to know what stars have passed (meaning they
would have come to UK if it wasn’t for someone else coming) because
of the committs we have?
Thanks in advance
January 11th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
BCG will be gone by the time
the aforementioned losers
graduate high school.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
#16 your not fooling anyone, everyone knows you have no idea what
you are talking about. It is easy being an armchair coach, isn’t it?
January 11th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
DavidESheltons just pissed because he had his ass gaped one time and it won’t close back together.
Just think how that could affect your ability to swim, ya know?
January 11th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
#18 do you know who AZ Cat was talking about when he said “stars”
have turndown UK because of committs?
January 11th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
I’m not going to say I agree with BCG’s early offers. I wish he would have waited another year on all of them just to keep our options open. I do, however, believe that these players will be good players at UK.
Euton- How many times have we said, “man I wish we had a big guy that could shoot it like Ogilvy or that big kid for South Carolina”?
GJ- Did anyone else think it was fairly impressive that he was the only non-senior to be first team All-State in Texas last year?
Zollo- No one with any sense believes that this kid doesn’t have great talent.
KC- averages 20 points, 9.9 assists, 7.8 steals and 3.4 rebounds! That’s stuffing a stat sheet.
Avery- last I saw his numbers were pretty impressive for a freshman.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
I believe John Wall passed on UK because of the PGs we have signed. Same thing with Chris Singleton who went to F$U.
Hey, I am no expert and I sure hope I am wrong about these recruits. I am just going by the rankings and chatter on Scouts and Rivals.
I guess I am frustrated that our peers, such as UNC, Kansas, UCLA and even Memphis seem to recruit top-flight talent for EVERY roster spot. BCG has recruited some tremendous talent (Patterson, Orton, Hood, Ferguson) but I think UK’s tradition should attract a roster-full of guys like that… hopefully those days are not far.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
He had offers from OK, TN, Tex A&M, Villanova, Auburn, Baylor, IL,
January 11th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
#20 I think it is funny how some UK fans talk about Euton, KC, GJ,
Zolo, and Avery but they don’t realize that for every one of them, there
is a Patterson, Hood, Orton, Ferguson, and Liggins.
your right about many things:
GJ was the only junior last year to make Texas first team all state - you
don’t make Texas all state if you don’t know how to play basketball. Texas
HS basketball makes KY HS basketball look like a joke. (no offense but there
is just that much more talent in Texas) Plus GJ is putting up very good numbers
this year against GOOD competition
Zollo - Like you said. If anyone doens’t think this kid has star written all over
him is a fool. Not to mention he was picked by the Olympic Basketball committee
as a top 50 Soph and has been invited to the Olympic Basketball camp this summer.
That is pretty impressive.
Avery - Only a freshman, putting up good numbers against top Califorina teams. What
more do you want? Talent doesn’t get much better than it does in Califorina
and Avery is more than holding his own.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
#21 a few questions:
1) Do you know for a fact John Wall would have been a Wildcat for sure?
2) Do you think Wall is really worried about GJ Vilarino. I like GJ and
think he will be a great 4 year player at UK but he isn’t no John Wall.
GJ knows that and I am for sure WALL knows that.
Do you really think Wall based his decision on GJ? really?
January 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
#19 - Don’t let these fools get you so worked up. AZ Blue is just jumping on the bandwagon of a couple of people who are applying their negative lives to the UK basketball team. These people live this way so it’s normal to them. Pessimists and cynics. There is no list of star players who have passed on UK because of BCG’s scholarship offers. John Wall is going anywhere he wants (he’s not scared of not getting playing time anywhere).
Don’t question how messed up what they are saying is, just know that it is and move through them.
They want to take away the enjoyment of things from others since they are no longer able to enjoy anything themselves. Shelton’s a long time troll here.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
#21 Why do you think those school are recruiting getting better talent
than us right now?
Maybe because they where playing at an elite level when UK wasn’t in
Tubby’s last 3 seasons? Just Maybe? Gillispie did about as good as
you could do given his situation in his first year, this year isn’t
even over yet. He hasn’t even been here 2 years and has landed a bunch
of talent already. And yes GJ, Zollo, and Avery are UK caliber.
Do you not think that maybe those Elite schools are doing better because
1) They were competing at an Elite level during Tubby’s last years and
haven’t stopped.
2) Tubby not recruiting through AAU really set us back with a lot of AAU
programs while those Elite Schools just kept getting more and more
ahead of UK in that department?
3)Think it is unfair to critize Gillispie when he hasn’t even been here
TWO FREAKIN YEARS and has already landed Patterson, Liggins, Pilgrim,
Orton, Hood, Miller, GJ, Ferguson, Avery, and Zollo?
It is UK fans like you and others who are way to negative way to quick on
Gillispie, you asked for a quick fix, come in right now and land recruites.
Well you got what you asked for. Maybe if we were a more patience fan base,
Gillispie would have felt the need to offer kids down the road so quickly.
but again, I think GJ, KC, will do their role very well at UK and I expect
great things from Zollo and Avery.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
#25 I know it just really makes me wonder about where the mindset
of some UK fans are when they really believe that Wall was turned
away because of GJ.
You have to have good 4 year players and superstars. GJ, KC, and Euton
will provide that stability and THERE IS NO WAY ANY SUPERSTARS ARE
DETERED FROM UK BECAUSE OF THEM 3. Thinking so is really stupid
January 11th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
why the long sleeves?
January 11th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
Some of you guys are crazy!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!
Barring a major health condition etc, here are some tidbits to take to the bank!!!
-Patterson will play in the NBA.
-Orton will play in the NBA.
-John Hood will play in the NBA.
-KC Ross Miller will play in the NBA.
-GJ Vilarino might play in the NBA. He is as quick (if not quicker) than Rondo and his shot is better. So why all the negative hype???
-Dakotah Euton probably won’t play in the NBA but he will make a good college player. He’s a 41% 3pt shooter and he has great a basketball IQ. However, he is slow and he couldn’t jump a pencil but the kid will be a good player for the Cats.
-Vinny Zollo: He’s only a Sophomore!!!! He’s a great rebounder and can shoot very good from anywhere on the floor. I honestly think Zollo will play in the NBA once all is said and done.
-Dominique Ferguson: Three words, 1) NATIONAL, 2) Basketball, 3) Association
-Micahel Avery: He’s in 8th grade or 9th grade and can dunk it any way he wants to. He can also shoot. What’s not to like about this committment??? That’s exactly what we need and by the time he gets here, he should be even better.
So come on people, loosen up and realize that these kids were highly recruited by other MAJOR schoools but BCG beat them to the punch. Give these kids a chance and support them. And for the love of Kige Ramsey, thank GOD we aren’t getting letters of intent from Sheray Thomas, Obrzut, Alleyne, Bernard Cote, Mike Williams, Jared Carter, etc.
January 11th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Furthermore, anyone who questions BCG’s coaching ability should refrain from using narcotics. In case you forgot, Vandy beat UK (6) times in a row while Tubby was here, Florida beat us (8) times in a row and Tennessee beat us (7) times in a row!!!! Those tides have already turned and we’ve beaten Vandy 2 out of the last 3 times, we’ve split with Tennessee last year and we also split with Florida. Just wait until BCG gets Orton, Hood, Vilarino, KC Miller, Euton, Pilgrim, Ferguson etc to join Meeks, Porter, Stevenson, Harrellson, Stewart, Harris, Miller, Galloway and hopefully Patterson!!! Can you say LOADED?
January 11th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
As for Zollo, is he even averaging double digits in points? In Kentucky? He is probably the third best player on a so-so Clark County team.
I have seen Euton at least 10 times. I am simply STUNNED UK offered this kid.
I’d like to place $100 to post 29 about KC and GJ making the NBA. In this economy guaranteed money is needed!!!
January 11th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
#31 it is obivious you haven’t really watched Zollo or don’t know
much about basketball. I have and his coach does not give him the ball
enough. He doesn’t run plays for Zollo. But when Clark County’s PG went
down he was forced to use Zollo more and guess what, Zollo has been
showing why he got a scholorship. But again, if you knew anything about
basketball you would have known that. The most basic knowledged UK fan
even see that.
#29 You forgot that Pilgrim will be in the NBA, He has everything Patterson
has and Patterson wishes he could shot and handle the ball as well as Pilgrim.
Liggins will be in the NBA, to talented not to, he is just through and adjustment
from being a star in HS to learning to actually play the position.
If Harrellson ever gets a angry attitude towards going after rebounds he might
be in the NBA. A lot of 6′10 big strong guys with offensive games and can rebound,
being role players in the NBA.
January 11th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
#31 the 3 games that Clark County’s PG was out and the coach had to use
Zollo:
25 points/ 14 rebounds
18 ponts/ 15 rebounds
8 points/10 rebounds in a blow out win which he was pulled out of the game
for the 2nd half.
I guess that isn’t good enough for you, IDIOT!
January 11th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
And to follow-up on what others have said about some of the talent having received schollie offers…with Euton and Zollo in the Lexington suburbs, I guarantee you that this summer, next summer, and the summer after that these guys will be in Lexington practically everyday playing pick-up ball with our team. So much of basketball is about trusting your teammates, knowing their strengths, and being able to have a feel for what they’re going to do. I don’t know if Zollo or Euton will have college and NBA studs, but I do know that our TEAM will be better off when they get to college for being able to play so much with the team during the summer.
January 11th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Wall would be perfect for UK–but he’ll be at Memphis.
January 11th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
You guys are smoking some serious stuff if you think that Deandre or Jorts will ever step foot in the NBA. Deandre is athletic enough but guys like him are a dime a dozen. As far as Jorts is concerned I dont know if you are watching the same dude I am but he can barely guard my dead grandmother and his reaction time is just as slow. He looks like he is playing in molasses. Also, to the poster who said that KC Ross-Miller & GJ will be in the NBA you should really step away from the computer, take of the blue shades, and put down the pipe. To make that statement, about 2 kids who have not even stepped foot on a college campus nor would i imagine you have EVER seen play live, is about as ridiculous as saying my 9 year old daughter will play in the NBA one day. And we wonder why the other fanbases think we are a bunch of uneducated, inbred, hillbillies.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
God bless UK fans…we love out players but BCG sucks at evaluating kids…his impulsive recruiting decisions are destined to get him fired.
January 11th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
#36 Your an idiot for writing kids off who are in their 1st season
of D-1 Ball. Shows you don’t know shit!
January 11th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
What was the attendance at the St. Catherine’s game? 25 (including the players sitting the bench)? With these early commitments, if they really don’t pan out by the time of their senior year, I’m sure Coach G. could call them up and say: “Hey, K.C./G.J./Dakotah/Vinny/Michael, you can still come here and I’ll honor the scholarship offer, but you are going to get about 1 minute a game, so be prepared to be the crowd favorite, like Jared Carter. You may want to consider some other options…but you can still come here on a full ride scholarship.” I guarantee that if the coaching staff thinks they made a mistake, they can get out of it really easily. But lets give these guys a chance to develop. One year, two years, and for Avery, 3 years, is an eternity.
January 12th, 2009 at 12:11 am
has anyone commented on how much he looks like derrick miller?
January 12th, 2009 at 8:53 am
#38 you got me there. However, atleast I HAVE seen those 2 play on numerous occasions as opposed to those who apparently can judge the future sucsesses of our recruits who they have never layed eyes on. I guess Deandre has a shot but if Jorts makes the League then I’ll kiss your ass.
