Cats knock off the Dores, 70-60

by @ 4:21 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

The Cats picked up their 12th victory of the season and their first in SEC play with a 70-60 win over Vanderbilt today. The Commodores were without First Team All-SEC center AJ Ogilvy, who bruised his heel in practice yesterday, but they still put a little fear into the Cats early on…and then almost erased a 20-point deficit at the end.

It didn’t look good at the beginning for Cats fans as Patrick Patterson picked up two weak fouls and Vanderbilt knocked down their first four threes (all by different players) to jump out to a 20-13 lead. But, when Patterson went to the bench, the lineup of DeAndre Liggins, Jodie Meeks, Darius Miller, AJ Stewart and Josh Harrellson sparked UK to a quick 6-0 run to put them right back in it and they would eventually take a 31-29 halftime lead.

Kentucky would come out firing in the second half, outscoring Vandy 26-8 in the first twelve minutes before the Commodores started chipping away and cutting it back down to a six-point lead with 53 seconds to go. But, free throws from Michael Porter and Jodie Meeks sealed the deal and Billy Gillispie retained his undefeated home record against the SEC.

A couple of quick notes:

- Early in the game, Kentucky looked VERY SHAKY against the zone defense in the half court and what was basically a token ¾ court 1-2-2 press. They look flustered at the top and there was very little movement out of Patterson and Stevenson inside, which basically played right into Vandy’s hand. I’ve said numerous times that Stevenson and Patterson are deadly running a high-low and it seemed as if they never even looked to flash Perry to the elbow. But, they looked to shore things up as they went along and improving that aspect of the offense could be a major issue heading into Tuesday’s game in Knoxville. In order to survive, they’ll have to…

- Once again rely on their swarming man-to-man defense, which has become the trademark of the Gillispie era in Lexington. With Patrick Patterson saddled with two fouls and the offense basically stagnant, Kentucky never panicked, choosing instead to stick to their guns and play tough defense. That resolve is what put them back in the game and, eventually, brought it home.

There aren’t enough offensive weapons on this team to outscore teams, so it’s extremely important to be sound on the defensive end. Getting steals, forcing bad shots or getting the blocks down low not only equal transition baskets for Kentucky, but they give the Cats extra positions also, which is very important to a team that doesn’t have a whole lot of offensive options. Plus, in games like today and Tuesday, it’s twice as important as these misses or turnovers don’t allow the other team to set up in their zone, which Kentucky hasn’t shown they are confident against.

- Vandy only shot 31% from the field and their top three 3-point shooters were 5-19.  That’s a good team effort.

- Patterson’s two first-half fouls were garbage. The first one was when he tried to hedge out while guarding the pick-and-roll and got called for a block on the ball handler. It was probably a foul, but it was a weak one at that and you can’t blame Patterson on the play. The second occurred in the lane with his hands raised straight in the air and looked on TV to be a bad call. So, what we were left with was a shell of the real Patrick Patterson that grabbed only one rebound in 27 minutes.

- Jodie, Jodie, Jodie. Jodie Meeks put up another 21 points today (three below his average) but his shot selection was again spotty. As a fan, I think we continually give Jodie a free pass because he knocks down so many, but there were more than a few that were questionable today. However, the reason I think Gillispie doesn’t think about the tough love with him in terms of shot selection is because he is relentless in attacking the basket when his shot isn’t falling in order to get to the line. Also, there were a few times today where he was the first player on the floor after a loose ball. That’s the type of stuff that’s going to allow him a few freebies on bad shots. Plus, he was the leading rebounded too with 7.

- Some of you might be waiting to hear that Ramon Harris had an outstanding game and that he hit all five of his field goals and both of his threes in route to his 12 points and 7 rebounds. You might be wanting me to say that it’s great to see him back to 100% and he played what was probably his best game as a Cat, finishing around the basket strongly and getting after it on defense. But, I’m not going to say those things because…well, that is what Matt Jones would say.

- JORTS! Josh Harrellson looked good, I thought, early on in relief of Patrick Patterson. He only played 9 minutes but had 5 points and 2 rebounds. Plus, he knocked down a three and followed the one he missed for a putback. I like. He played good defense when he was in there, but he spent most of his time guarding a guy who looked like this so he gets no credit from me for that.

- Is Michael Porter actually becoming the stabilizer? He had two turnovers and only two assists, but he’s looked much shakier against much worse competition. He was one of the few players who handled the pressure well when it was applied and hit some clutch free throws in the end. He’s far from being an All-SEC player, but if you didn’t get pumped when he hit that jumper as shot clock expired, then you have no soul.

- I still can’t get a feel for Perry Stevenson. He came out strong and scored the Cats’ first three buckets, but disappeared for pretty much the rest of the game. He did have three blocks, but he finished with only two rebounds in 34 minutes. They’ll need much more from him on Tuesday.

- Darius Miller played 14 minutes and only had two points. However, I think he played well. For all we keep hearing about his shattered confidence, that’s not what I saw. I saw a kid that got robbed on about three or four shots that rimmed out but kept attacking on offense and hitting the glass on defense. If you just go off of today’s game, I don’t think he has a confidence problem. He just has a luck problem. It will work itself out eventually and, by the end of the year, he will be a major part of this team’s success.

- Kevin Galloway, perhaps you should peacock. Maybe coach just isn’t noticing you down there. Go bedazzle your warm-ups or put a blue streak through your hair. You’ll definitely stand out then.

- AJ Stewart played 10 minutes and was pretty much wasn’t noticeable, which is an improvement from him. No major mental mistakes….except the prettiest offensive goaltend that I’ve ever seen.

- To the guy dancing in the stands:  Please don’t stop.  You are an awful dancer and your head is going to hurt like hell in the morning, but your passion is truly an inspiration.  Keep on keeping on, brother.

Ok, I’ve written way too much already. I’m sure Matt will have some more thoughts tomorrow afternoon but, for now, let’s bask in the glory of an undefeated record in the SEC. But, bask with one eye open because those damn Vols are up next.

    first yay.

  2. wildcatsforlife Says:

good game overall, didn’t cave into the poor shooting at the opening minutes, and of course the very hot 3 pointers by vandy at the start. They battled in there and pulled it out. thanks to porter we almost let it get closer, but thankfully he made his 4 FT’s.

  3. marylandcat Says:

I don’t understand how the Cats win. They have the ugliest offense in my memory. We have no 3 point shooters (except Meeks), so Vandy packed in on Patterson. Do we have anybody on the bench that can shoot a 3? We better pick up the offense or it will be a long year.

  4. DavidEShelton Says:

    Good thing Ogilvy didn’t
play today or you all know
    what might have happened?

  5. wildcatsforlife Says:

as much as I wanted Harris to ride the pine today, he actually was very productive today!! He seemed to be loose and very free today. Not showing any signs of the back and neck problems that seemed to hold him back lately.

  6. UKCatFan01ABC Says:

Jorts and Harris both had 3s today didn’t they? Is that enough?

  7. wildcatsforlife Says:

jorts missed his only attempt I think and it was an airball wasn’t it.

  8. wildcatsforlife Says:

he missed it, but got his rebound off the miss

  9. Brink Says:

4 Yeah patterson would have had a monster game cause they would have thought ogilvy could handle him. And they would have forced the ball inside more often.

  10. UKalltheway08 Says:

    7. He shot another one later and drained it.

  11. Brink Says:

don’t forget the 3 he drained with 1sec on the shot clock.

  12. bestdamnukfanperiod Says:

I’m glad we won, but the defense was pretty sad in the second half, UK got lazy, they better wake up before we play UT.

  13. wildcatsforlife Says:

ok somehow I dont remember that one!!

  14. UKCatFan01ABC Says:

Yeah, Jorts was 1-2 from 3 land.

    here’s the box score…
    http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=290100096

  15. Brink Says:

12 True but UT doesnt know how to play d.

  16. GimelsStache Says:

Vanderbilt wins with Ogilvy and even decent officiating. Meeks got his points, but didn’t shoot well. UK got prayers from Harris (2 3’s on an 11% average), Harrellson, and Porter.

  17. wildcatsforlife Says:

14 thanks usually I remember when 3’s are made by not the normal guys, even though he is a better than average 3 shooter for a big guy.

  18. bestdamnukfanperiod Says:

15, It just pisses me off when a UK team gets lazy, We should have spanked them by 30, and ran the score up like they did us last year. Like I said I’m glad we won, but we need to play hard the whole game.

  19. UKCatFan01ABC Says:

No Galloway today. I thought Slone might see a minute or two we when were up 20.
I’ll listen to the call in show this week and someone will say they’d like to see Galloway see some more minutes and BCG will say, “I’d like to see him get some more minutes too”.

  20. Uk8thBanner Says:

Good game today, let off the gas a little too early, but that happens sometimes. UK won’t have a chance to let of the gas on Tuesday, it will be 40:00 of full-throttle basketball.

On another note, no real upsets today. UK wins, UL pulls out a squeaker at ‘Nova, and IU is being trounced by Illinois. Interested in seeing how the rest of the SEC plays tonight.

    Go Cats!

  21. Brink Says:

16 In the first half uk shot 2 free throws, and when we were called for our 7th foul they had called 1 on vandy. So how was the whistle in our favor all game?

  22. Brink Says:

and 16 harris’ 3’s were open looks that hit nothing but net. Didn’t look like prayers to me.

  23. wildcatsforlife Says:

19, Harris played well enough today for a change that galloway couldn’t steal his minutes. Harris definately benefited from vandy’s constant doubles of PPat and Meeks. He deserves credit though for a good game and taking advantage of the opportunity to contribute on a positive way.

  24. catdawg Says:

What was worse the ref’s towards both teams or the commentators? I swear Conley was ok most of the time but they were lost during the entire game.

Cats let down when they got the big lead that happens. The main thing is that for most of the game they wre under control and followed a game plan. Doesn’t anyone realize that UK stayed right with them even when Patterson was out for most of the first half. This was a good game for the cats no not a great one but that is probably due to the same reason as most have been stating on here they wanted payback instead of just to win. Be glad we’re in first place in the SEC right now and lets get ready for the Vols.

  25. HunterYork22 Says:

Wouldn’t you all say it was a much better game for Liggins? Only 1 TO, and then was when he first came in the game….UK built up their 20 pt lead when he was in…the BCG subbed and the lead shriveled down to 6…I blame BCG for subbing at that time…he kind of ended UK’s momentum. We should have tried to beat them by 30 or 35 after they dominated us last year by 41.

  26. catdawg Says:

Didn’t Liggins leave with a slight injury? During the time he was kinda taking over they tried some screens and stuff on him to rattle his cage. Then on the other end of the court I think he took a knee to the thigh and it knotted up on him. He left probably could have returned but no real reason to.

  27. wildcatsforlife Says:

25, Liggins had a very solid game! Miller I think also had a good game, he made a good play at the end of the game on the rebound to secure the victory and unfortantely he still cannot drain those shots, but a least he took a couple and that is a start.

Also, WE are better than that, as far as rubbing it in, WE are the SEC, WE are the most winningest team in college ball, WE don’t play dirty either. We should though have that killer instinct though and be able to put teams away, which I think we will do a better job of that this season than that of the last several years.

  28. Rajay333 Says:

I guess Galloway in deep in the dog house. Miller still seems out of it, yet he gets the minutes. It doesn’t look good for Kevin. He may have to transfer if he ever wants to see the court again.

  29. catdawg Says:

I agree with most 27 good post.

As far as this player and that not seeing time and needing to transfer and whatever. My god this kids are Freshman they won’t die if they sit on the bench and wait for their turn. I know we’re not as good as in the past and everyone wants that to change ASAP but you can’t just play someone because they are suppose to be a stud. If they deserve it I’m sure BCG will play them since he does have to keep his job. If they aren’t ready then sit on the bench and wait your turn and if you can’t wait a season then certainly transfer I’m sure you will fit well at Illinois.

  30. GimelsStache Says:

    22. When you’re shooting 11% from deep on the season, any shot you make from there is a prayer.

  31. HunterYork22 Says:

also, well done CATS..just 12 turnovers as a team..much better

  32. coachclyde Says:

#30, or perhaps you were so far out of rhythm due to a serious injury that your percentage went waaay down and now that you’re fully recovered it’ll creep back up.

  33. Rajay333 Says:

    29 - galloway is a junior.

  34. soup Says:

The guy dancing does it every game. He loves UK. No matter where his ticket is they always let him sit there in section 18. He’s a very accomplished athlete in the Special Olympics. He won crazy fan of the game and as usual when he wins he just hands the T-shirt back to the girl who gives it to him.

  35. marylandcat Says:

On Liggins: He looks so smooth and fundamental when he’s running the break. He made 3 great passes–nothing flashy (and I disagree with Larry Connelly about the pass he threw to Ramon Harris–Harris should have caught the ball and hit a 10 foot jumper). But when he has to play in a set offense, he looks terrible and turns the ball over.

  36. Mojo Wilkins Says:

I seriously doubt Ovaltine playing would have helped the Commodes. With him playing, the refs might not have been picking on Patterson early, and we would have run away with the game in the first half.

  37. Mojo Wilkins Says:

Patterson’s 2 ticky-tack fouls were the only reason we weren’t up big at halftime. It kept the Commodes in the game. Cats do need to work on being focused though. It’s not the first time this team has taken it’s foot off a whipped opponent’s throat instead of finishing them.

  38. Uk8thBanner Says:

Good win today, 10 points covered the spread and then some. As much as I like Harrelson, Perry showed a much better presence on offense and defense. Jorts let a few defenders run by him and still doesn’t have the presence on D that he should.

One thing is apparent, the team is becoming much closer, you can tell everyone has begin to trust everyone else on offense. UK has no reason not to run the table this conference season.

  39. Buford T Justice Says:

Did Landon Slone walk into BCG’s living room and take a dump?

  40. travyork Says:

    http://www.wazoosports.com/bluegrassshootout.html

  41. schizm42 Says:

35 - when running a fast break, players on your team must fill open lanes. you are right that harris made the first mistake by running straight towards traffic. however, Liggins should have recognized this an not passes harris the ball. Billy G and Conley were upset with Liggins for converting a non-turnover mistake (harris running the break incorrectly) into a turnover mistake (even if harris did pull up, it would have been against 2 Vandy defenders with no UK players under the basket for a potential rebound) Harris had no room to go anywhere with the ball. In a similar situation, a more experienced point guard would have pulled the ball back and waited for the offense to set up. This is typical freshman mistake, so no worries.

  42. Uk8thBanner Says:

I figured I would bring this up since conference play has begun… This is the Win/Loss on the last week of the SEC Non-Conference Slate

Alabama - Georgia Tech, at Clemson (Win at home, Loss away)
Arkansas - Oklahoma, Texas (2 Top Five W’s)
    Auburn - Tulane (Win)
    Florida - NC State (Win)
Georgia - Mizzou, at Georgia Tech (Two L’s)
    Kentucky - at UL (Loss)
LSU - at Utah (30 point Loss)
Mississippi State - San Diego, Houston, WKU (Loss to San Diego, then Win against UH and WKU)
South Carolina - Clemson, at Baylor (They lose at home to Clemson then go and beat Baylor away)
Tennessee - at Kansas, Gonzaga (Two losses, the second in which UT gave it away)
Vandy - at UMASS (30 point Win for Vandy)

So the SEC had 9 Wins and 9 Losses in the last week of the non-conference; with 3 wins over the Top 25 and 5 losses against unranked teams.

  43. MarkCouryismathletic Says:

The bottom lines is you beat an average Vandy team at home and without their bet
player. Had he played, Billy G would have tanked another home game. Every year
UK gets lucky and plays a bunch of SEC teams who are missing their best players.
That i the main reason UK made the tourney lat year.

I laughed when the fans got excited about a four point halftime lead. Had
UK played the game without patteron or Meeks, UK would have lost by double digits.

  44. Uk8thBanner Says:

And on the UK front, I know these totals will change since we have only really played a little less than half a season, but UK is shooting it’s best Field Goal and Free Throw Percentage in over 7+ years.

  45. Uk8thBanner Says:

    43) Didn’t Louisville lose to UNLV at home when they were missing their best player…. Just saying.

  46. Band Of BlueCats Says:

    45- you’re right.

  47. MarkCouryismathletic Says:

Yes, that is true. But UNLV has a decent team. Billy G has already
choked against the likes of VMI. The SEC is a joke and UK cannot
afford to lose to teams like Vandy at home.

Watching an SEC game is like watching a JV high school game. Watch a Big
East game and you can see a huge difference. Thet UG/UT game sure
was exciting. If UT is the best team in the East, then the SEC is worse than
    a few mid major leagues.

  48. MarkCouryismathletic Says:

UNLV will win win their league and be a top 5 or 6 seed. Vandy won’t
    make the NCAA tourney.

  49. Band Of BlueCats Says:

47- please, Vandy has alot of young talent, 4 four star freshman on their team.

  50. BillyClyde4President Says:

I just don’t understand the Galloway situation. I’m beginning to wonder if BCG holds personal grudges against certain players because Galloway brings INSTANT athleticism (and length to boot) to the game. If I was Galloway, I’d refuse to go into the game next time my number was called. Liggins did it and now gets lots of minutes. You never know!!!!

  51. BillyClyde4President Says:

50: “should be killed.” Ligthen up dude, that guy was enjoying himself and he sure beats looking at the entire lower arena (who’s average age is 83)!!!!!! That guy is a true fan so why “kill” him???

    Go Cats!!!!!

  52. wildcatsforlife Says:

47 It wasn’t to many years ago the big east was not the power conference it has been the last couple of years. The SEC is just in a valley right now, and the big east is just capitalizing on it. They have some absolutely horrible teams as well. UL is ranked only cause of the conference, and they should not be after some of the losses they have. UCin is horrible. If it wasn’t for Uconn and syracuse and Gtown, the traditional powers in the big east, they would be a down power conf as well. Hell, even the ever great ACC(lol) which I hate, they are and probably always will be a 2 or 3 team conf, that gets several teams into the ncaa cause of the main 2 or 3. The Big east non traditonal powers are just in an upswing and are looking better because of the big 3 or 4 they normally have.

  53. Uk8thBanner Says:

    47) UL was also pre-season #3 while UK was not ranked. I’d say talent wise UK-Vandy was the same situation at UL-UNLV; we pulled it out, you all did not. That being said, there’s no doubt the Big East is up and the SEC is down.

  54. overspeed Says:

MarkCouryismathletic, just curious, but how long have you had such a “high protein diet”?

  55. marsrover Says:

Erik Daniels (and his mom) need your help! From aseaofblue.com:

Hello to All & Happy New Year, I am pushing for my son (Erik Daniels - Forward) to get voted to play in the NBDL all star team in Phonenix this year. If you would be so kind as to cast your votes daily it would help to push him to the top. Once you go to the NBDL main web page and click on the All Star 09 box it will provide you with a link. You have to sign in as a member but there is no charge. Please pass along to others. Once again thanks for your support. He has been doing very well and we are hoping that he gets called up to a NBA team soon. Thanks Carmen.

    Everybody go vote!!!!!

  56. Wildcat-N-NKY Says:

Wildcatforlife - It’s great to see that you can give a player like Harris his due… After Last weeks
game, I didn’t expect you to man up and admit that he could be an asset to this team. As for Liggins
he still has a long way to go before he can be considered solid. Still too much of an “It’s all about me” attitude
and he still has control issues. However that was an awesome behind the back pass in today’s game.

  57. wildcatsforlife Says:

    57 thanks DAD

  58. Braddy Says:

really frustrating not seeing KG out there. wish BCG would give us the scoop on that situation……KG seems to still have a good attitude considering the circumstances…….i guess BCG knows way more than we did………just wish he’d fill us in as to why KG starts for like 7 straight games but doesn’t even see the floor in the sec opener………REALLY CONFUSING!!!!!!!!! YOU DON’T SEE ANY OTHER TOP NOTCH COACHES DOING THAT CRAP……………….WAKE UP BCG!!!

  59. westcoastukfan Says:

We beat Vandy without their best player, but we also didn’t have a solid game from our best, PPat. Meeks was a little below average, point-wise, so the only problem I have with the game was the MAJOR LETDOWN DEFENSIVELY late in the 2nd half. We should have beat Vandy by 25. Other than that, UK found a way to win. Now, on that note– BCG is the WORST coach EVER when it comes to substituting. The 5 that built the lead were yanked and all of a sudden–boom. The lead evaporates. WTF BCG???

  60. greenwell Says:

    59) I agree that KG’s playing time is mind boggling but what could he have given us today that we didn’t already have on the court?

  61. travyork Says:

    KC Ross-Miller coming up @ http://www.wazoosports.com/bluegrassshootout.html

  62. pattyflattie Says:

Thanks 56, anybody besides joe crawford and eric daniels we should be voting for, I didn’t look too closely to the list…

  63. greenwell Says:

    47) If Scott Norwood had not pushed that field goal, the Buffalo Bills would have won a Superbowl. If Pitino had someone guarding the inbounds pass, we would have won the 1992 National Championship. You’re a moron with your “ifs” and “buts.”

  64. travyork Says:

Lexington Cath. going to overtime on Wazoo right now. They were down 11 with 2 minutes left and 7 with a minute to go and came back to tie it. Vee Sanford has not played.

  65. greenwell Says:

    ^referencing 43 post not 47. Same moron.

  66. Grits Gurgler Says:

I’m so glad Mark Story of the Lexington Herald Leader led the Big Blue Nation to come up with a nickname for Meeks and Patterson! I don’t know what I’d do without it.

It so useful and fitting when things aren’t forced. Mark could have written about anything because his imagination is so open and positive but no, he chose a fantastic tpoic that really generated a big surge of brilliance throughout the bluegrass.

    What was it again?

  67. flipisatrip Says:

    solid game, i liked it.

  68. Mark Says:

    Slam!!!

  69. Braddy Says:

Greenwell - KG could have given you more assists, more rebounds (outrebounded by smaller squad), and he in my mind is the only one who has point guard instincts. I’m not saying he is the answer to the next level but point guards take you to the promised land and he appears to be the best we have.

  70. travyork Says:

    KC slow first quarter.

  71. Braddy Says:

greenwell do you see a natural point guard out there?

  72. Band Of BlueCats Says:

71- how is Josten Thomas looking?

  73. greenwell Says:

No natural PG but you didn’t answer my question. What else did we need TODAY? Didn’t need more assists and Vandy got 11 trash Off RBs (about 5 came on one trip). I don’t think BCG is asleep as you indicate. He didn’t play him today b/c KG could not have really added anything other than getting him more min/exp which I would agree, will be very important come March.

  74. daddy43040 Says:

Ah i don’t blame gillispie for not playing galloway what with all the production we’re getting from the point guard position and all…

  75. travyork Says:

73 Thomas is not playing becuase he got kicked out of yesterday’s game. KC second was no better than the first. You can watch it here http://www.wazoosports.com/bluegrassshootout.html

  76. travyork Says:

    because not becuase

  77. Grits Gurgler Says:

#64 - greenwell - “If Pitino had someone guarding the inbounds pass, we would have won the 1992 National Championship”?

I’m pretty sure that game was for the Final Four.

  78. greenwell Says:

    75) with the PG personnel we have, what kind of production are you looking for? what do you think is realistic production from porter, liggins or galloway at the point?

  79. travyork Says:

KC 2 points in first half.

  80. Grits Gurgler Says:

From tonights game KC Ross Miller looks like he will need his freshman year to learn team basketball.

I doubt he’s learning much playing for the team he’s currently on. Really awful display of basketball in the first half. It’s funny that someone would be proud to call themselves the coach of that. I saw glimpses of the 2006 UK team.

  81. travyork Says:

81 no D at all. The whole team just walks around. KC just stands there on defense.

  82. champ1023 Says:

Arkansas is laying an egg against Mississippi State

  83. travyork Says:

He looks very lazy. The guys calling the game keep saying he is pushing too hard. To me he is not trying at all.

  84. Grits Gurgler Says:

#82 - travyork - It’s even worse on offense. No movement BY ANYONE AT ANY TIME.

Tons of walking around. It really is quite pathetic. BCG should demand a refund on his ticket and tell KC he should switch High Schools.

  85. travyork Says:

This looks like a bad AAU game. Is Zone Defense illegal in Texas? They look like they have never seen one before.

  86. Grits Gurgler Says:

I’ve seen Jr Pro games with 12 y.o.’s that could eat God’s Academy.

God is going to sue because they are damaging his reputation.

  87. Grits Gurgler Says:

It even more funny that someone who stumbles along on our comments might think we’re exagerating.

    If anything we’re being nice.

  88. Grits Gurgler Says:

God’s Academy wasted a lot of fuel coming to Lexington to play this game. I can only hope it was on a old rusty bus.

  89. travyork Says:

There is a kid texting on God’s Academy’s bench.

  90. Grits Gurgler Says:

When I see things like this I sometimes wonder if the one time another civilization from another galaxy was able to, for the first time, tap into our internet - What if this was the first show they recieved?

They should and would most likely disconnect and decide we are not worth exploring any further.

  91. jbg1 Says:

To the GUY DANCING…dude has been doing it at every home game for at least 2 yrs. Get the guy on ESPN, he is a legend in section 18 at rupp arena

  92. greenwell Says:

78 - It was not even the final four, it was the regional final. My point was that most believe we would have gone on to win the title had we beat Duke in that game.

  93. Miller Time Says:

Great, another project to wait for.

  94. greenwell Says:

^78 - I reread your post and you said “for the final four.” My bad.

  95. marylandcat Says:

The biggest “fish” that got away in recruiting was Rontei Clark, who is playing for Arkansas. He had an off-night tonight against Miss. St., but this kid has game. He would have been our “third scorer” th is year. BTW, for the Ramon Harris fans, sure, he scored some points, but he was WIDE OPEN. He caused at least 3 turnovers–that were charged to other guys–with his stone hands and he makes the offense go completely out of sync. I cannot believe that he will be starting the rest of the season.

  96. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#96 I think if we had a kid like Clarke he be playing the 2 and Meeks
the 3 in a 3 guard lineup. It would be nice to have a shooter like him.

How about Liggins - He might have played the best defense anyone for UK
has played this season so far.

  97. Grits Gurgler Says:

#94 - Miller Time - KC looks like he can really dribble the ball well. He keeps it extremely low like Hawkins did. his jumpshot has god form. I don’t think he’s a project I just think the team he’s on is a sad reality.

  98. Miller Time Says:

    Rontei Clark couldn’t hold Landon Slone’s jock-strap!

  99. Grits Gurgler Says:

    *good form

Sorry god, you must really be pissed from the team that played with your name earlier. I can only hope you forgive me in my goof.

  100. travyork Says:

I hate to talk bad about people but it looks like Miller’s dad got the job because his son was a great player. I think he I see why his son has dropped off the recruiting lists. KC probably has a hard time adjusting to the AAU game because AAU is a lot more structured. They have 4 or 5 D-1 players and just lost to a team that may have an NAIA player if they are lucky. Campbell Memorial is in the smallest class in Ohio and was 5-4 coming into the game. I hope UK didn’t promise Miller’s dad a job.

  101. mullet357 Says:

Hey folks, Just wanted you to know that Joe Crawford scored 45 points for the D-Fenders in todays game setting the club record and best game of the season in the NBADL. They better sign him before someone else does.

  102. Miller Time Says:

I hope KC comes in and contributes right away. I’ve got a feeling Liggins will get some bad advice and throw his name in to get drafted to the pro’s. I hope he doesn’t because he’ll be a NBDL or Euro lifer.

  103. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#101 I never heard anyone say AAU is more structrued, lol but in
this case you might be right. But don’t forget that GA is a new
school started by Miller not long ago.

I thought KC looked good with what we would want from a PG. I just
think the coaching is bad and like you said, the structure is bad.

  104. Miller Time Says:

101: Miller will be a star!

  105. mullet357 Says:

I guess nobody cares. I do. He never did that here!

  106. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#103 Liggins looked like today he is turning the corner, lets hope so.
He played stellar defense, his shot didn’t go down but it look good, same
with Miller. But Liggins ran the offense a lot better and is finally learning
that the simple pass is the better pass.

But hopefully something special will happen and Liggins will have some
tough competition coming in next year in the 09 class and I am not talking
about GJ. Lets just pray and hope

  107. travyork Says:

102 KC has potential and can handle it great but he is wasting a lot of time that could be spent getting better in high school. He handles it great, is strong, and fairly athletic. He just walked around most of the night and so did the rest of his team. It would be hard to get better doing that every game and I don’t even want to think about what their practices look like.

  108. mullet357 Says:

    108 I never said he couldn’t

  109. Miller Time Says:

107: He had some good moments for sure!Defenses/Passes He just needs to drop the circus shots and playground mentality to become a good player. His outside shots remind me of Sean Woods and he has a way to go to improve.

  110. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#108 He really needs to be playing at a public school in Texas against
top Texas HS. But that isn’t going to happen but I wish it would

  111. travyork Says:

sorry 109 I meant 103 and I was agreeing with him.

  112. mullet357 Says:

Hey guys UK should recruit the guy named Mike Awesome. He’s 29 and he spend’s his time wishing Joe Crawford was in the NBA. And he’s muscular and badass.

  113. KentuckyWildcats Says:

I know a good coach won’t promise PT but considering who is left in
the 09 class, Gillispie needs to take a trip down to North Carolina
a promise someone a starting position. If Liggins turns the corner this
season or by next season, great - then we are loaded at the PG position.
If he doesn’t than it wouldn’t matter.

If it was up to me, I be taking a recruiting trip to North Carolina

  114. mullet357 Says:

    Mike Awesome Career stats- 0-0, 0-0, 0-0, 0-1

  115. travyork Says:

111 I agree. I wish someone could get that point across. Gillispie can’t say it. Someone needs to let them know what he is missing out on.

  116. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#116 I really just wish he play against the kind of competition
GJ is playing against, Ferguson in Indiana, and Avery in Califorina.

  117. KentuckyWildcats Says:

Well, the PG I won’t is still availble and UK needs to turn up the heat,
    no reason not too.

  118. KentuckyWildcats Says:

    * want

didn’t mean to say “won’t”, meant “want”

  119. travyork Says:

117 I felt sorry for Hood playing on a team with not much help. KC’s situation is much worse. He is surrounded by talent but look like he could get better games in at the local park.

  120. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#121 wish Joston played today, I like to see how good he really is.

  121. bfrey Says:

Agree with 101. Terrible situation when there is ZERO offense besides stand around and jack 3’s with the occasional drive. After a timeout it was like pick-up ball when the coach just said, “you, you, you, you, and you, no you.” Comical.

I will say the Beckham kid from Catholic was very impressive. He knows how to get to the rim, made some J Kidd-esque passes, and can shoot the 3 (set shot, but it goes in). He was equally, if not more impressive as Ross-Miller IMO.

  122. mullet357 Says:

120 you look like you could get better games at a local park

  123. mullet357 Says:

    burnt you

  124. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#122 I am just guessing here but maybe Gillispie thinks once God’s
Academy gets a few more years under their belt they will become
a Oak Hill Academy brining in a lot of talent. If that is going
to be the case, then KC is diffently worth the scholorship. He is
anyways as long as we get another PG in that class.

  125. mullet357 Says:

    shut the f up coury

  126. mullet357 Says:

    eat my butt coury

  127. SlickRick48 Says:

I think we should just quit basketball and put all of our cards into the football team.

  128. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#126 you really know nothing about basketball, do you? You can’t
watch a kid 1 time (KC) and tell what kind of player he will be.

Euton - you may have a point but he could still turn out to be a solid
four year player - you need those types as well.

Zollo - is going to be a stud - Just watch him play. When he gets the ball
he does good things, he is in a situation like Hood where the coach doesn’t
    use him like he should.

Liggins - you have no idea what Liggins will turn out to be. I can’t see for sure
he will be a star and you can’t say for sure he won’t. Your an idiot if you
think you can. Liggins played the best defense I seen any UK player play this season.
Give him a chance. Why would you close the door on a freshman?

I am begining to think you are a UL fan possing as a UK fan on here

  129. KentuckyWildcats Says:

Mississippi State just showed tonight that if you have good shot
blockers, just let Fotson drive and get his shit thrown.

  130. Uk8thBanner Says:

Only two real upsets today worth noting….

Boston College - After beating UNC loses to Harvard and Miami (Go Figure)

Arkansas - After beating Oklahoma and Texas at home lose to Mississippi State at home

  131. champ1023 Says:

Wow, you all hear about Joe scoring 45 in d-league? :O

  132. travyork Says:

#125 it does look like they are getting a lot of talent there. Miller should be the AD and hire a legit coach.

  133. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#132 Texas and Oklahoma did two great things for everyone in the SEC.
    1) Gave the SEC two quality wins 2) Gave everyone a pretty good blueprint
how to stop the Hogs. Now the Hogs go on the road for the next two games.

  134. KentuckyWildcats Says:

how to stop the Hogs. Now the Hogs go on the road for the next two games.

  135. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#134 I agree 100%. Imagine if God’s Academy becomes a hot bed for
talent after a few more years, UK will have the inside track.

  136. bfrey Says:

I think God’s Academy will trend more towards Rose Hill than Oak Hill.

  137. ruppcrazy Says:

I’m really sick of all the negative people on this site. Get behind this UK team instead of having a fit that they aren’t the ‘96 Cats. We’re still building back to prominence so have a little patience and enjoy the ride. 12-4 (1-0) is not bad.

  138. KentuckyWildcats Says:

#139 What if we get the defense out of Liggins that we got today, WOW!
    and the smart passes

  139. Miller Time Says:

The negative posters need to go back to MM’s tent and be brokebacked accordingly.

  140. KentuckyWildcats Says:

LOL, nobody is worse than TCP. I can’t stand that place, everyone
is negative. If we went to the final four this year and lost in the
first game, they be calling for Gillispie’s head

  141. lexslamman Says:

TCP is a sewer of rednecks, middle schoolers, and jerks.

  142. Grits Gurgler Says:

#126 - MarkCouryismathletic - Are you really that retarded? Did you get someone to type for you?

  143. Grits Gurgler Says:

#139 - ruppcrazy - I agree, there’s no reason to be negative. This site does attract a big group of pessimist and cynical people.

  144. GimelsStache Says:

#32- Harris was 1/7 before the injury + Louisville game. So yes, him going 2/2 today was a miracle.

  145. Mojo Wilkins Says:

Anybody else check out that “peacocking” link? Dress like a homo and you’ll get girls, basically? I don’t think that’s how the real world works…

  146. UK fan IN St.Louis Says:

Gotta love the internet. I guarantee all the shit talking that happens on this site would never be said face to face at a real UK game.

  147. StitchJonesSays Says:

The TCP is for loser rednecks with negativity!

  148. Brink Says:

146 you keep harping about harris’ 11% well if he has only shot 9 all year and made 3. Then his new percentage would be 33.3%

  149. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

    148. YOU JUST NAME THE TIME AND PLACE……hahaha you’re right. Gotta love the interweb.

  150. Grits Gurgler Says:

#147 - Marc Maggard is going to be so pissed at Biesner for posting that link. Now Peacock Class is going to be so overcrowded next time.

  151. Grits Gurgler Says:

#148 - UK fan IN St.Louis - I love when meatheads need an out.

  152. UK fan IN St.Louis Says:

Grits Gurgler- what do you mean?

  153. bigbcurry Says:

Hey 43,47,50…you are a schmuck. Take your negativity and shove it up your ass and enjoy it you Piece Of Shi*

  154. bigbcurry Says:

All of you deuche’s that are loving Fortson and hating Gillispie for not landing him, here are the “man’s” stats for today> 5pts. on 2-13 shooting including 0-5 3pts. and 4to’s. You critics make me sick. Give Gillispie the time he deserves and we will be at the top again.

  155. Grits Gurgler Says:

#154 - UK fan IN St.Louis - When meatheads need “an out”, they aren’t able to compete intellectually so they fight physically.

Having discussion, debate, “nerd fight”, or 12 year old name calling session online requires the same discipline as face to face from all parties at issue.

Do people abuse the rules online and take advantage of the open mic, well yea some do. But then, in the real world some people use guns (when others thought it was just going to be a fist fight).

  156. soup Says:

Speaking of nerd fights, Bob from maggard’s site got kicked to the curb. He is no longer a “verified source” or a poster at his site. Ole maggott will turn on you in a heartbeat, man… I’d love to sit and chat with Bob and tell stories. Those would be good times.

  157. Uk8thBanner Says:

The SEC East won both matchups today with South Carolina and Florida beating Auburn and Ole Miss.

  158. Grits Gurgler Says:

#158 - soup - I thought Maggards site was on the curb?

Do you think maybe Bob wasn’t peacocking enough?

  159. Randomnist Says:

Anyone who needs to dress like that to “get” a girl doesn’t know anything about women…

  160. Thomas Beisner Says:

If any of you guys didn’t watch either season of “The Pickup Artist” on Vh1, which is where “peacocking” came from, then you missed out. It’s quality entertainment.

And, while I’m offering my entertainment opinions, I saw “Bedtime Stories” tonight and thought it was awesome. No boobs or anything, but it’s just a good movie. I recommend it if you’re 10 or just immature like me.

  161. edgehoops Says:

Great recap… I personally know the guy dancing. He is an avid Kentucky and Elvis fan. I coached him on my Special Olympics team for many years. His first name is Darren and he never puts on a bad show…or rather never turns one down.!
