Tweets From the Football Team

by @ 9:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

The media won’t get to talk to the players until maybe Wednesday. Luckily we have this thing now called Twitter where the players have shared their thoughts on the firing of their head coach.

  1. iusucks Says:

    Punter guarantees a win!

  2. Rixter Says:

This is the day all of BBN has been waiting for.

Why does it feel like somebody died? :-(

  3. Mjp Says:

Man I can finally thin down, he liked it chunky

  4. BigBlue Says:

Us fans need to fill the stadium next game and really show the players support! This was not their fault!
It was a tough situation but it had to be done. Things will be better soon!

  5. Wtf Says:

    Screw that #4
Mitch owes me an all ky a sorry

Second I don’t have $50 to blow on a samford game
No thanks I hope they effing loss

I only follow uk FB to see how big an effing train wreck it’ll become! Hahsha

  6. Buckets Says:

Sad to see Joker go but it had to be done. Now it’s time for Mitch to go. Us “real fans” don’t want him around any more because we have “personal agendas” of wanting to see the football Cats at least be competitive.

  7. catfan38 Says:

Players love and respect their coach. Now they are in a wait and see mode, just like the fans are. We are UK and we will bounce back! Go Cats!!!!

  8. bsquared Says:

#5) Remember this is about showing the PLAYERS respect….if you dont like the coach its whatever but at least show the players some respect damn

  9. Gabe Says:

@4 Yes its the players fault. They are the ones who played the games. They are the ones who quit during game like big babies. They deserve no respect. Screw the UK football team.

  10. Dee Sanders Says:

I know many of the players. Some of the guys on the team that Im better friends with say they have no respect for any of the coaches and they don’t take football all that seriously. The guys I know (and again, many of them) always dread going to practice, bitch about having a night game on saturday, and can’t wait for the season to be over. I know alot of the guys are stoners. No joke, seen it first hand. This is the culture amongst alot of the players, and that is because of the attitude Joker had. Joker is a great guy as far as I know, but he doesn’t have a strong enough personality to be an SEC HC. You have to have control of your team. It starts with respect, and we have to have someone at HC that demands respect from the WHOLE TEAM. We don’t want guys that just go through the motions and “cant wait for the season to be over.” We got to have players that look forward to game day, and love playing football.

  11. you pos Says:

    #5–you’re a piece shit.

  12. tom in rockcastle Says:

if mitch issues a apology i may consider going to the game, but if he does not apologize i will not consider going.

  13. Mike Says:

@5 & 9 you both sicken me and we don’t need people like you in Commonwealth anyway. Go cheer for the cards and spread your sickness in Louisville.

  14. BigBlue Says:

    9) I hope you do not consider yourself a UK fan. Joker has been been justifiably fired. Move on…support the players…and look forward to greater times ahead. ADs and coaches come and go but UK is always there. Support the TEAM…not Joker or Barnhart. Stop crying about Mitch hurting your little feelings with some comment he made…

  15. tom in rockcastle Says:

i am referring to the real uk fans and personal agenda comments made by mitch

  16. henry earl Says:

    12 then you’re a f*cking child

  17. Mike Says:

This is bigger than Mitch and Joker. Yes Mitch made a stupid, offensive comment, but don’t use that as an excuse to not go to the game. We already got what we wanted by not attending the games, but continuing to do so will have no effect. This is about changing the culture and attitude about our football program and that starts not only with the administration, but with the fans as well. Go to the game and support your team.

  18. Linda Taylor Says:

2 – Because we know one of our own is hurting much worse than we are.
    5 & 9 – Don’t worry, you won’t be missed.
6 – A lot of us “real fans” appreciate what Mitch has done for the overall athletics program.

  19. Hartline Says:

Hope everyone goes to the game. If that place gets full it will really show the BBN at its finest.

  20. Mitch's thoughts Says:

Most of these folks demanding apologies from me weren’t at the game to begin with. If you’re not going to spend money on tickets, then why should I cater to you? It’s like Obama campaigning in Utah. Or Romney in Hawaii. Build pride with the fans who come to the games no matter what and then the rest can either get in line or go root for some other team. Joker is gone. Now that divisive issue is decided, so can we all agree that WE ALL WANT TO SEE THIS PROGRAM SUCCEED?! United we stand. Divided we fall.

  21. Truefan Says:

Really? Just what has Mitch done? Cal came here because Cal wanted to come here. Mitch gave us Billy Clyde and Joker. Problems run deeper than Joker. Who the hell hired Sanders and Minter?????? Mitch.

  22. Mymy Says:

#5 name the place, I will rid u of more than 50 dollar. You will holler, I promise.

  23. We Are The New Vandy Says:

UK fans come in many shapes and sizes. Pointing fingers at each other is stupid. We all want the same thing even though we may disagree on how to get there, kind of like election day. Go big blue!

  24. Food for thought Says:

For everyone who wants recruits and to turn the football program around is by showing support, I know that if I’m a recurit and I went to a game and saw the stands empty, that would make me not want to come to that university because why do I want to I somewhere that doesn’t support me and says they can’t wait for basketball season. Support your players and be fans of them not added cancer to a program in need of it. I know ill be at the game to support the guys and I hope everyone else will be too. And to # 5 & 9 talk all you want but just know that you would never be able to do what those players do.

  25. greg Says:

This is a very sad day. Joker is an alumni that came in when UK football seemed to be on the rise, we were a threat to anybody, anytime. We were competitive. 1-9 is just sad. I think we all yearned for Joker to do well and retire here, it sucks to be at square, well negative 5 at this point. This season is worse then the Curry era. The worst part is, we may end up hiring a promising coach who wont have full support because we have a small sect of loud fans that think we can just go out and hire Bear Bryant at his prime to come to UK. Please give the new guy a chance people.

  26. Friend Says:

I always liked Joker. It was the right thing to do but I feel bad we had to let a UK guy go. I wish it woulD have worked out. Sad day but the start of a new era and lots of hope. I may get my tickets back.

  27. Buckets Says:

18 – Nothing matters but men’s basketball and football, so save it. It’s time for Mitch to go, and I was a supporter until his recent, ridiculous comments.

  28. Keeping a promise Says:

I said I would not return to CWS as long as JP is on the sidelines so if he is there in 2 weeks I will not be. And yes Mitch, the next hire matters even more to get your hands on my money so don’t dick this one up too.

  29. Linda Taylor Says:

21 – Brooks hired Sanders and Joker hired Minter. What makes you think Mitch did? Are you trying to make a joke? Cal could NEVER have come here without Mitch signing on the bottom line.

  30. Flippercat Says:

#21 When Mitch hired BC – a LOT of people thought he was a great hire. He led a mediocre program to a great deal of success and knocked off Louisville here in Rupp in the Sweet 16. It was a failed experiment that he stopped quickly. He absolutely did hire Cal – heck everybody wants to coach here.
Joker hasn’t worked out, but he is a Kentucky guy and has been forever. Our football program went without any continuity for a very long time, and that’s important when you are trying to build a program in the toughest conference in the nation.
Mitch is the Athletics Director, not the Football Director. The entirety of our athletics department is having unparalleled success under Mitch. Every single program is in the league/national conversation now except for football. Don’t overlook the huge upgrade all the programs have seen the last 10 years.

  31. St. Paul Raiders Says:

I hope Brian Long appreciates Joker being fired.

  32. Linda Taylor Says:

27 – That is your opinion. It does not matter.

  33. Buckets Says:

    32 – I didn’t know Barnhart’s mom posted on KSR.

  34. Linda Taylor Says:

33 – Aw, did someones wittle feelings get hurt?

  35. Flippercat Says:

#27 – There are 500 athletes representing UK. While only 2 sports might be important to you personally – that is simply not true of a lot of us that follow UK sports. Mitch has the responsiblity of doing a job with everyone in mind, not just one or two sports. I can promise you he absolutely wants football to be successful. There are a lot of things that can’t happen without that program improving.

  36. Buckets Says:

34 – Not one bit, milady.

  37. truefan Says:

Don’t you remember when Cal came and everyone said Cal and Mitch didn’t get along? Sounds like maybe somebody does an agenda. Mitch taking credit for Cal now? Shame, shame. If you don’t learn from your mistakes you will repeat them.

  38. Charlie Strong Says:

9 and 0 and in the top 10. Hahaha! How is that tough conference working out for you?

  39. Linda Taylor Says:

36 – That’s good because I had no intentions of apologizing.

  40. Linda Taylor Says:

38 – Where are you going Charlie when you ditch the &&&** your dating right now and go to a real conference to play real football?

  41. Linda Taylor Says:

    make that you’re

  42. Matt Says:

All of those people who are saying screw the UK football team are not true fans. If you claim to be a fan of the University of Kentucky then you should take the good with the bad and support the whole athletic program, not just love it when basketball comes around and then spend three months every year complaining about the football team. We need to remember that most of these players are 18-20 year old kids. They are professionals they will make mistakes. But they need to be surrounded with a fan base that actually appreciates the effort. The athletic department has gotten rid of what seems to be the issue with the programs downfall and is moving forward to do what is best for the program. Do not sit back and whine and complain about the program and say screw the football team. True fans support their team through the good times and the bad times.

  43. Charlie Strong Says:

    40) We are going to a BCS bowl this year and next year. Where will your team be going? Haha!! UK is the anal canal of college football.

  44. Linda Taylor Says:

Where you will be embarrassed when you lose to a real team by a huge margin. UK is down now but it won’t be forever. Remember you had your Kragthorpe. Soon you will be looking for a new coach when Charlie ditches you for a better job. This is probably your last year with him. So enjoy it while it lasts. The party is almost over!

  45. Typical UK fan Says:

    SEC!!! SEC!!!!

  46. J A Brooks Says:

Linda Taylor, what is your problem?

You basically laugh at the fact that a lot of UK fans were really offended by Joker’s comments and mock them for saying they supported him until he made those comments?

Deep down I know my opinion means jack shit to the powers that be at UK but I don’t like the idea that I get laughed at for feeling offended by Mitch telling me I’m not a real fan and that I have a “personal agenda” for wanting him gone.

So you work for KSR now and are therefore better than the fans that were offended by Mitch’s comments? That’s cool, at least we all know where you stand.

  47. Linda Taylor Says:

46 – What? I wasn’t even talking to you. You sure are good at reading things into what people are saying even when they aren’t talking to you. You have to take the things I said in the context in which they were said.
I assume you are referring to my response to 27.
I had said on line 18 that a lot of us appreciate what Mitch has done for all of the other sports at UK.
He responded with that only men’s football and basketball matter.
I said that was his opinion and IT didn’t matter.
I was mocking his dismissal of all of the other sports as unimportant.
There was nothing in my statements about Mitch’s statements that so upset everyone. I chose to not go there.
I assure you I do not work for KSR, What in the world made you think that? If you’ve read any of my other posts you would have read that I believe Mitch needs to address the issue of what he said to Tom Leach on the radio and clarify it and if need be apologize. Have I clarified this situation adequately?

  48. Buckets Says:

47 – Get over yourself. Ask 100 fans and I guarantee you, at least 90 will agree that only basketball and football really matter. The others are friends and family sports, as in only friends and family pay attention to them. Basketball and football are the money makers and no one cares if the rifle team does well or the cheerleaders win another national title. Good for them, but no one really cares, especially when one of the two most important programs at the school is a complete laughingstock and you have an AD calling people who show up to support the godawful team “real fans,” and the other people who want Joker gone have “personal agendas.” That’s a load of hot garbage. Is the situation clarified adequately for you now? Good day.

  49. yep Says:

I am voting that all sport s matter. 99 more votes to go

  50. Kevin C. Says:

Gotta love a punter with the balls to guarantee victories….ESPECIALLY with this team. I hope he has a plan for either 1.) punting out of bounds at the 1 ft. line every time, or 2.) never getting on the field, because our offense magically scored on every possession.

  51. Jim Says:

My concern is that if left to Mitch alone without significant input into the process from others close to the program (e.g. alumni and significant contributers to the program) to make the decision we may very well end up with a Gillespie on the football side. Mitch seems to have a propensity for bonehead choices if allow to do them on his own.

  52. Linda Taylor Says:

48 – If you will notice that post was addressed to 46 not you.
If you want the honest truth about it, the vast majority of the POPULATION would agree that education is what matters the most at a university and that sports expenditures have gotten WAY out of control especially in light of the ever increasing budget cuts from state government. Fortunately UKAthletics is self-sustaining.
Guess what, I don’t have any friends or family on any of the UK teams yet I go to the women’s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics events with my husband and friends and there are plenty of people there that are not friends and family. For years we had ADs that never cared about anything but men’s basketball so none of the other sports have had a chance to build up a following. At TN the women’s basketball team fills their 20,000+ seat arena. We are on our way to doing that here. Last year for the UK-Duke matchup there were 14,000+ at Rupp to watch our women beat Duke. It takes time to build up a fan base for sports that have been neglected. If you have/had daughters wouldn’t you want them to have the same opportunities as your sons?
Frankly I was not offended by what Mitch said. I think there are a whole lot of personal agendas that have nothing to do with racism.

  53. BlueDoug46 Says:

I will personally miss Joker. I know this had to be done and he was the right fit for the program just not the right head coach. I think they whiffed on two recruiting classes that ultimately led to his down fall.

My top 5 in order choices : Mike Leach / Rex Ryan / Butch Jones / Kirby Smart / LA Tech coach forgot his name..
