The biggest news of the day was RB CoShik Williams being shut down for the season. Williams has been out of action the last couple of weeks, and yesterday an MRI revealed a torn labrum. Because Williams redshirted previously in his career, his time at Kentucky is now over. In the video above, Phillips talks about losing Williams and how his freshmen quarterbacks fared in practice today. Take a look.

-With the loss of Williams and QB Maxwell Smith, guys like Jonathan George and Raymond Sanders will be asked to do more offensively, especially with such young quarterbacks. Sanders knows the team has to rally around the tailbacks and he’s ready for the challenge. “We have to stick together, we have to cherish the moment,” he said. “You never know the last time you will get a chance to play with [one of your teammates], so we just have to come together as a team and keep having fun.”
-Jalen Whitlow and Patrick Towles continued to split reps with the first team today. Veteran WR LaRod King was impressed with both of the young guys and how they had command of the offense. “They both were about the same. Both were on target, and both have really strong arms.”
-WR Daryl Collins said that both Whitlow and Towles split equal time with the first team, and that neither took substantially more reps than the other. Collins is confident that either one of the quarterbacks can lead them to a victory on Saturday.
-Former quarterback and current graduate assistant, Andre Woodson, said it’s not easy to get young guys ready for the speed of the game in practice. As an offense, the first thing they have done for the quarterbacks is “slim down” the playbook. Both quarterbacks have a different skill set, and they will try to cater to each one of them accordingly.
-Woodson says Mississippi State’s defense brings a lot of different blitzes and fronts that can really confuse a young quarterback. He said its important to give young guys that aren’t that familiar with the playbook, one or two reads in a single play so they can catch on quicker.
-DT Donte Rumph expects Mister Cobble back for Saturday’s game. “He’s ready to go. Oh, yeah. He’s ready.” Cobble is expected to split time with DL Tristian Johson, who DC Rick Minter said had the best game of any D-lineman against USC.
-Rumph said the emphasis all week as been the Bulldogs downhill running game. “As long as we do our jobs like we did in the first half of last week’s game.. we should be successful.”

This is the one thing that could save Jokers job. That Towles comes in and shows flashes of brilliance and/or incredible potential. It will excite the fan base and bring back some hope for the future.

I really have no idea, but do other teams get their running backs injured as much as we do? Not trolling here, legit question. I just don’t pay attention to other teams.

Our backs are injured all the time because we rarely use a fullback to block, and our guys are usually smallish…

I am always curious and/or amused when we say “skinny down the playbook.” I just dont see our offense as being real complicated. Joker and Sanders tell the QB to look at the primary WR and if hes not open, its an immediate dump-off to a RB. The offense Towles ran in HS is probably more sophisticated than UK’s.

Wrong. UK can and likely will apply for a 6th year of eligibility due to medical hardship.

Agree with 4 but our running backs are getting bigger-Mobley,Taylor and 3 Georgia lost their top reciever for the year in practice yesterday it’s called football!!!

Some correct me if I’m wrong and in sure you will, but didn’t name Pulley the starter over Woodson going into his junior year. Joker was the OC Brooks over ruled him and Woodson went on to have a great career at UK. Pulley had of field issues that caused in to get kicked out of school.i guess Joker really has an eye for talent and who will be a good player.

When you play with a undersized line you have more injures to your skill positions. Our line has underachieved for the last 3 years. Not hated it’s just a fact. I’m sure summers knows his stuff the choice to fire brooks verry sucessfull ol coach.
