The Ryder Cup is this weekend and Team USA captain Davis Love III is taking his leadership role pretty seriously. During a press conference this afternoon, Love, a UNC grad, said he’s been studying how coaches inspire their teams and keep them cool under pressure. Love spoke to Bob Rotella, a sports psychologist who also happens to be a close friend of Cal’s, who told him about Cal’s methods of keeping his players loose, something Love says he will definitely use in the pressure-packed Ryder Cup:
“Bob Rotella was telling me about Coach Calipari and how he is having these guys practice and he’s not drilling them to death all season, he’s letting them play games and have contests and play wiffle ball in the gym, not grind it out over free throws everyday. We’ve got unbelievably fast thoroughbreds here and if we don’t let them out in the pasture to kick their heels up and eat some grass and keep in the stall and make them run hard all the time, they’re not going to run.”
The thought of Anthony Davis playing wiffle ball makes me chuckle.
Go Cats. Go USA.

CAPTION:
Davis Love: So, after we won the cup, my wife says, “Come here and tighten this strap around my wrist like this, then you get your reward!”
Tiger: Yeah…this is what my wife did….
